I can tell she isn’t neglected or abused- she was sweet and calm and very happy and affectionate to you and her owner. No signs of being malnourished or abused…she’s just living her life running around outside! What a sweet sweet girl! I love her!
You can tell she’s used to bathing. Her owners probably groomed her until the fur got out of control, which is not uncommon for double coated dogs. The typical dog owner doesn’t possess the products that Vanessa has.
When I was a kid, we lived on a large property, and our rough collie lived her best life running around that place. If she had a bath, within half an hour her hair would be full of grass seeds, hay, cow poop and mud, and her face would be as happy as could be lol
@@little_swan07 It's possible to love an animal but still neglect it, even if you do so unintentionally. I've worked with rescued dogs and cats and many of them suffered 'abuse through kindness' which is a term for when an owner thinks they are spoiling an animal or treating it well but they are actually doing it a lot of damage. It's unintentional, and it doesn't mean they don't love the animal. They do. But no matter whether it's purposeful or not, their treatment of the animal in question still causes a lot of harm and suffering. :(
To be fair. King Shepherds had the German Shepherd "drive" and "edge" bred out of them. King Shepherds are not working dogs and were bred to be more relaxed and calm
You'd be surprised at how durable farm dogs are...they literally spend their entire lives running around outdoors. They are usually remarkably in great health right up until the end.
I had Samoyeds. I was told to put my dogs on glucosamine when they got to around 9, and I don't know if it works, but I know my dogs NEVER developed hip dysplasia, and they made it to 16. It's not very expensive, you can buy the stuff they use for horses at a feed store, just throw some in with their food (cooked for my dogs as well).
That was my response when I got my cat back from the ultrasound vet. He was relaxed, calm and happy. He's never been like that after a vet visit. I gave them a great review.
@@SwearMYA few years ago I had the startling realization that some vets are not cat people. Ever since then I've paid attention for vets who like BOTH dogs and cats, and it has made an incredible difference with how everybody feels when we leave the vet.
@lancashirelass1998 Extremely shameful and full of excuses. Imagine not bathing, grooming in ten years, pathetic. Outside dogs need baths as well, not every ten years. If she did this often the dog wouldn't been stressed, and gone through this long ordeal. The dog is Not use to being groomed. Ten shampoos, one for every year she has not been groomed. Poor dog, I feel sorry for this beautiful creature. Everybody don't need dogs.
The way Smoochie kept shaking her new coat at her owner reveal at the end like "You see this mom, no but like forreal do you SEE THIS" *shakes with all the zest* What a good girl.
A Royal Spa Day for a Princess! And she felt like one❤ What a beautiful dog with a fabulous countenance. Working dogs must have a tireless confidence and big and brave hearts that help them go anywhere. Even the Spa😂!
What a proffesional dog. You know she works. Even when she was uncomforatble, she never snapped or bit, she mostly stayed in place waiting and enduring. What an amazing personality for this beautiful dog. Absolutely amazing.
The tilting of her head is the cutest act! Like she's asking..are you talking about me?😊 the owner is sweet too. You are a very professional groomer. That's a lot of work right there!

she’s not a purebred, and she’s also got an insanely long coat, very frowned upon trait also in breeding. Comments talk enough also about the straight back. But I tell you what, she has a 10 gold star temperment!
The blow out feels amazing to her… she’s scratching an itch that she couldn’t satisfy for years! It definitely felt like the equivalent to a human going to a wonderful day spay getting the works treatment with a full body massage. She is such a sweet dog, lovely temperament and she is beautiful.
@@jolienvsndijk Plus...I don't have a dog to "show". I have it to love and be part of my family. I had mutts all my life and then my new husband and I got full blood Black Labs (Aunt and niece) from a responsible breeder (and good friend). When they both passed we got a Black Lab mix from a shelter. He is no different than our "purebreds". I wouldn't trade our purebreds for the world. They were the best dogs. But all dogs are the best dogs.
What a beauty. I love how she automatically stands in that Shepherd stance. Nothing more wonderful than a Shepherd with a lovely temperament like this. She is just living the best dog life.😊
I was a vet tech for a couple of decades. Over that time, we had a few groomers. Never, ever did I see any one of them spend this much time and effort on a dog. What you did for this beautiful dog is amazing! I wish all groomers were as talented as you! 🐾🐾
@@honeybunch5765 sadly, most groomers who work for companies and pressured for quantity over quality. That’s why GWTD is so special: her channel means she can do one dog a day, still make a living, and be thorough. It’s sad but the rate for a really good groom would be nuts if they didn’t have an alternative form of income :(
She's able to spend this much time because she offers this as a charitable service supported by money she makes from her channel and merch. Regular groomers don't have that luxury. I'm sure there are other groomers who would put in more time and effort on each dog if they could
I think the difference is that she's a King Shepherd which is a German shepherd/Alaskan Malamute and other herding/sledding dog mixes (they vary per breeders I believe) so it's not a pure German shepherd. Definitely agree about the importance of a straight back
please educate yourself before you comment. you are thinking about badly bred gsds. well bred still have some angulation in the back. 'straight-backed' german shepherds are not well bred dogs, and neither are overly 'sloped' back, but they definitely should NOT have a straight back.
@zergiew There are breeders that specifically breed their German shepherds to have straight healthy backs. Vanessa (the groomer in the video) has a young all black German shepherd named Lupa whom is one of these dogs. Her breeder specifically breeds black German shepherds whom are smaller in size and straight Backed and ideal for service dog work. A sloped back has become a part of the breed only due to being introduced into the kennel clubs for dog showing. In reality a sloped back has no practical benefit for working/herding dogs which is what German Shepherds were invented for.
@@amandasnider2644 That's not correct. German shepherds have always had angled backs. they're supposed to be like that as it helps with better movement. You may be able to see some better than others depending on the stack of the dog. Any breeder breeding straight backs are unethical. Vanessa made a video on straight backs and took it down because it was filled with an insane amount of incorrect info and the community told her so. For an outside working dog I am FLABBERGASTED at how well behaved she was. So calm & no outburst! She turned out beautifully ‼️‼️Job well done by groomer & dog 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
She probably felt much better getting it done. I've never had a double-coated dog go this long between grooming, but even after brushing out the shed hair on a regular basis, I could tell she loved the "lighter" feel. Kinda like when I could finally go to my own hair salon after months and months of Covid lockdown and cut off some of the excess weight 😂
Omg! The way she was leaning into the hair blower was so cool, she was like, "yeah, right there, oh yeah". My God, what a lot of hair! She was so good. And so were you! So patient and kind to her. Loved it!
She was so sweet! Not a single bark, growl or bite during the entire video . Not even whining. And at the end with the before and after pictures you can see how pretty she became. And somehow it looked like she not only became younger, but her fur colour became so much more vibrant
I was thinking the exact same thing!! I was waiting for it. It never happened! She is an amazing doggo and she was groomed by an amazing groomer!! ❤My shepherd would have been barking and growling. He hates baths but always tries to get in the shower when I am in there lol 😂
I love this comment section so very much!! Not a single negative comment towards this pups hooman or anything like that!!! Just giving love to the dog and groomer! I’ve never seen just a positive comment section on UA-cam and it’s VERY refreshing
And then, she saw herself in the mirror, previously denied, "What did you do to my hair!?!? I have been growing it for the last 10years and all is gone now ouuuuuu !!! 😉
The less said about “show lines” German Shepherd’s the better. The U.K. and US kennel clubs need to change the standard back to being this healthy working lines German Shepherd size/shape with healthy rear hips/spine.
@@Jonathan_Doe_ I fully agree, however Smoochie is a King Shepherd. The breed isn't recognized by the AKC, so there is no real breed standard. They are huge, though. Females average between 60-80lbs, while males average between 90-130lbs. The size alone comes with the usual hip and elbow dysplasia, though individuals who suffer from it are in the minority.
That is a coincidence. She cannot understand what she said. Dogs can pick up on some words, but in this case there is simply no reason to believe it was ever taught that sentence.
@@FreshToast-qm8ki dogs understand more than you think, they are excellent on picking up tone and physical queues, which is probably what happened here. Stepping back and using an excited tone probably gave her all the communication she needed to understand her bath was finished. moreover, don't most owners teach their dogs the concept of done/over/no more? seems highly likely that she would be taught such phrases.
@@FreshToast-qm8ki Many dogs can understand human words, especially the herding breeds. Dogs have an intelligence of between a 2 to 5-year-old child (an estimation).
My granddaughter insists that she wants to be a dog groomer. She decided this at 9, she is 14 now. This is still what she wants to do. Should she add vet tech to that? Any advice would be great. Thank you.
The King Shepherd wants her own UA-cam Channel, so she had to be on her best behavior during her debut video. A very beautiful looking Shepherd afterwards.
Smoochie put a smile on my face. She was so proud of herself when her owner showed up. They obviously loved each other. So glad she didn’t need a shave. 💜
This is a great example of why I love shepherds. She is very much not enjoying the bath, but she's smart enough to understand you're trying to help her.
They're so smart. My boy stepped in poop this morning and was so cooperative when I told him to get in the tub so I could hose off his feet. He really didn't want to, but he did it anyways.
I love how the tiny white sibling at the end looked so confused as the owner was marveling at the transformation. “Why are my feet touching the ground??”
I'm just confused, maybe I missed it but why has she never been groomed when its so calm and well behaved? But the owner has another dog that looks like it gets groomed?
@@honestreviewer-dp6gr maybe the reason being that farm dogs are working dogs and most doesnt need to be extremely clean as they spend their time outside. I feel the fact that she just had compacted fur after 10 years is a testament to how loved and well taken care of she is at home. You really did these owners a huge favor helping them out! It can't be easy having a farm dog with THAT much fur!
We have a Great Pyrenees who is indoor/outdoor (mostly out). I brush her every two weeks at a minimum. It's good bonding time, and it prevents her from becoming a matted mess. I wish that was always true. Abused dogs usually cower at the approach of an abusive owner. About 13 years ago, I adopted a little dog off the street that was just one solid lump of matting, sort of like a fuzzy bowling ball. When shaved, he turned out to be Havanese. The groomer had to assure me that he was the same dog. He's getting old now, but still a sweetheart.
I recently rescued a dog off the street. Sort of good news, bad news with her coat. She's a short hair Border Collie (or maybe Mcnab dog) mixed with Husky. Her coat was in decent shape and after having her professionally groomed and not letting her roll in dirt oil, and whatever other filth she'd gotten into while living rough, her coat basically just renews itself and stays looking so nice she gets compliments all the time. Bad news is that she's just CONSTANTLY shedding, hellooooo Swiffer.

@@ImmaSaveUFromMe You have terrible listening comrpehension. It is stated clearly in the beginning of the video that this is the first *professional* groom in 10 years. She was groomed by her owner, but it was difficult since the dog didn't like to be brushed and howled in the shower. Farm dogs get dirty within five minutes of getting clean, and if you ever handled a long haired double coated dog, you'd know they start compacting and matting just by sitting down sometimes. Even with shorter haired double coated dogs this is present too, though to a lesser extent.
@@PaladinDansesGirlfriendI'll repeat what I said for the other guy, but you both need to work on your listening comprehension. This is Smoochie's (not "Smoothie") first *professional* groom. The long coat is to keep them warm while outside and protect them from the elements. Their fur will get matted and compacted even if you do maintain a grooming routine, especially since for some long haired double coated dogs compacting already occurs when they sit down. Obviously her fur was maintained, proven by most of it was just compacting not matting, but if your dog spends most of its time outside working, it will be an uphill battle. She was well tended to, even if she did not look too pretty. But she is not malnourished and obviously well treated and trained from her behaviour and how she loves her owner.

@@seanewing204matting is kind of like Dreadlocks in humans. It's hair that is still living and connected, but is so knotted up that it can't be brushed out and can only be shaved. In context of this video, compacted seems to be somewhat similar, but is mostly loose, already shed fur that has gotten stuck in the fur. Compacting could likely lead to matting, but if addressed with detailing shampoo and a nice blow dry, apparently will blow right out without too much problem.
Dreadlocks are able to be brushed out with enough patience. And it’s an intentional hairstyle as opposed to matting which is neglected hair that gets too tangled and clumped up to deal with

It's unintentional, and it doesn't mean they don't love the animal. They do. please educate yourself before you comment. you are thinking about badly bred gsds. well bred still have some angulation in the back.

German shepherds were bred to herd sheep.
She is such a patient, obedient dog. Thank you for explaining how farm dogs can get so dirty. I did not know there were dogs called King Shepherds. I have never seen one with such a long hair! She is absolutely gorgeous!
It's because it's a fancy name for a mutt.
Gentle and beautiful and smart and I've melted.
In this dark world, videos about pets being cleaned and happy bring light. You do an amazing job
The trust she had in you. She knew you were their to help her. Your channel makes me so happy and is so therapeutic. I work in a doggy daycare and love seeing people who love dogs do right by them. You’re amazing.
there*
they dont teach spelling in doggy daycare? or are you a worker there?
@@ocesoThe fuck is your problem, I read this comment and thought “that’s the wrong there,” but I didn’t lash out at the person for using the wrong one. How old are you? 12, you’re very immature.
@oceso lmaooo--You have the audacity to call someone out on using the wrong there/ their/ they're, yet you can't seem to comprehend basic capitalization and punctuation? Someone tell scrooge that it's not even December yet 😂 I have a feeling hypocrisy is a chronic, incurable disease for you. Bless your heart
@@ocesobe nice, it’s a common mistake
I love how the level of trust seems to develop as the dog realizes she’s helping and they feel better.
She was an absolute sweetheart throughout the whole grooming session. I just couldn’t believe it. Here I’ve had/have a small dog and they’re just complete monsters. What a difference she is. Well done!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love how she actually just sat there for you and then also she kept doing that head tilt❤
Exactly! My heart can't take this cuteness 🥰
The head tilts slay me 🥰
@@AuntCathyPooh Likely seeing herself in the camera lens or similar. But yes, very sweet.
She's the most amazing beautiful German Shepherd I've ever seen. Rough or groomed I just love her. Deserves a flippin' medal for her grooming obedience. I'll give her an Oscar for dogs. And a FARM dog. Wow.
She's a King Shepherd though, hence the massive size compared to a German or Shiloh.
You can just see how much happier the dog was and how so much better she felt afterwards. 🥳
I love seeing how her mood becomes more trustful as she starts feeling fresher and more comfortable. In the end she's just accepts the foot trimmings instead of pulling away.
Such a great temperament this girl has. We have a GSD much like her. Vanessa, you are such a warm, caring woman, your videos are my favorites.
Imo that dog was neglected and made to live outside due to the heavy shedding. Hence, the little dog is pampered living indoors, as it's a non shedding breed. I'm sure she loves the dog ( king shepherd ) as it looked healthy other than the extremely neglected grooming, no excuse to let that dog get so matted like that.
@texasgirl6000, go touch some grass and get some perspective. That dog is not neglected. If she had been actually neglected for 10 years her mats would have caused raw oozing wounds on her body.
@@whynotnofi8278there doesn’t have to be wounds to show that the dog was neglected. I understand not getting it done professionally every time but not getting her groomed at all OVER 10 YEARS is INSANE AND NEGLECTFUL
This bread is incredible. I love ALL dogs, but the Shepherd has a special place in my heart. I owned a Shepherd for 13 years before he left with the angels. They are just incredible. They are so well-behaved, loving, and attentive. My Shepherd, Dutch, was my best friend, my roommate, my partner in life, my everything. He could be a comedian and make me laugh one minute, which tickeled him to death, or would be willing to die to protect me the next. When alone, I often talk to Dutch. I miss him terribly, but I know he will be waiting for me when those same angels come for me. I love your channel. It is like going to class. Your knowledge of breeds, behaviors, and expectations are incredible... and for a dog lover like me, I feel as though I am learning their language. So, thank you.
It's unbelievable how much fur came off Princess Smoochie! And she still has lots left. She is so well behaved, and looked like she was actually enjoying the blow dryer at some points. She's a gorgeous dog, especially after her groom.
And now probably upwards up 70% less likely to have a heat stroke.
Yes, that coat is 100% functional, and all the groomer did was remove 100% additional coat and shedding from the last ten years.
@@ImmaSaveUFromMe, true.
@@ImmaSaveUFromMe It's obvious that the dog was used to the bath and brushing. Ten years of coat would have had her on her knees at least.
That’s a big dog
Wow, what an amazingly well-behaved dog. It's hard to believe it hasn't gone through this process of being handled by a stranger for hours on a regular basis. So calm and happy-looking.
Great comment. I noticed the same thing.
21:59 beautiful job
I have always been a Shepherd lover and this made me cry a little bit - the love you have for dogs and the amount of consideration and care you put into your grooming is extraordinary. I do not think I have seen such a glorious example of her breed and is clear her mummy adores her.
Really well groomed little dog with squeaky lady???
The woman-type person who created the King Shepherd breed has the ethics of a starving pig. She knowingly bred a dog with TERRIBLE hip dysplasia because he was incredibly beautiful and made the most gorgeous pups. As a result, a lot of very crippled puppies were sold to unsuspecting people. It is entirely out of respect for the author of this channel that I am refraining from using the most vulgar profanity in describing what I truly think of Ms. Shelly Watts-Cross. Please do not let anyone you love purchase a King Shepherd.
Oh! Bless her! Feeding & walking isn't enough! Poor girl!😢 Amazing outcome! Let's hope her owners learn a lesson?
The curious look on her face and her head tilting are just so adorable❤
Yes, exactly. That made me chuckle.
What a sweet personality this dog has! She looked like "I don't particularly enjoy this but I respect your work and endure it!" :D
What a good, patient girl! That was a marathon grooming session, accepted with such equanimity! Well done, pup!
What an AMAZING girl she is!
I love the ones that are as dramatic a change as this was, and also, as a bonus - the owner reaction....
What a sweet, sweet girl! If that's what "she doesn't like being brushed" looks like, I'm sure she is an absolute joy of a doggy daughter/employee to have. What a blessing she must be to her family, and judging by her mom's demeanor I have hope that they are just as much a blessing to her. Just an overall very wholesome and enjoyable video that really perked up my day. And thank you as always for your tireless work and bright bushy attitutde Vanessa, you are the patron saint of pupperoos 🥰🥰🥰
Agree & ❤
At I loved how at 12:30 she was really leaning into the blow dryer, you can tells she was really enjoying feeling the air on her skin.
Same thoughts
It was a very good scratching of a long awaiting itch.😊❤
You can tell she started getting relief when the fur started flying. Her face said it all…
It's a furnado ahhhhhhh!!!! Lol. I bet she feels so much better after all that! Keep working hard on the farm girlie ❤❤❤
My 13 years german shepherd just died after a stroke. It was painful and in the same time sweet to see this. She was a sweet giant full of love like this one.Hugs to Princess and you for this video! She seemed sooo happy when she was brushed at the end!
Sending you some hugs ❤ Sorry for your loss. I know how you are feeling right now. 😢 We have a saying here; in English it would be something like
“Don’t cry, because it is over.
Smile, because it was wonderful.” ❤
Sorry, but not about you or your dog
@@user-rb1yf4he9qnot sure you understood my comment.. or if you read it in its entirety …but that’s ok.
@@delia7721thank you so much! ❤ this video just reminded me so much about her. I am watching this video again and again .
So sorry for your loss. It's so hard, those goodbyes.
Now you can see how beautiful she is. What gorgeous coloring. You blew 20 pounds of fur off. I’ve never seen such a blow out, sheets of fur, my goodness. Smoothie’s temperament was stellar.
I love that your knowledge of the difference between compacted and matted helped her through this process with minimal stress. Well done, both of you!
What's the difference?
Matting is thick tangled clumps of hair or fur that is still connected to the skin, while compaction is loose hair that couldnt shed fully gettting stuck in the top coat.@@seanewing204
And it’s an intentional hairstyle as opposed to matting which is neglected hair that gets too tangled and clumped up to deal with
What an amazing transformation! She's got an outstanding temperament too -so sweet and patient! I have owned 10 German Shepherds and I believe temperament is so important. She also is so well behaved so compliments to her owner for raising such a beautiful girl!!
Oh my word, I have totally fallen in love with this dog, she is absolutely stunning and when she tilts her head to the side when you talk to her...my heart flips! What a wonderful way you have with her, you were calm and totally in control. Well done.
❤Well observed!😊
I know she's gorgeous I'm obsessed
What an absolutely gorgeous temperament dog she was just perfect and a wonderful end result🐾❤️
For some reason this bath reminds me of those extremely dirty rug cleaning videos! She’s a beautiful dog and your excitement in grooming her is contagious. Can’t wait until the end. Thanks for your hard work for our entertainment.😊
That's what I was thinking of! Ten shampoos later the water is still running dirty! 😂
The way this dog just looks at you or sniffs you to communicate she is getting a bit tired/uncomfortable is so sweet. Just a sensitive and considerate soul. Made my heart melt, and my eyes water at some point 🙃❤
You are a worker! A miracle worker! Almost 1 million subs! 👍🏻🥇✔🏆
❤Princess Smoochie, highly intelligent pup, beautiful temperament. Once she realized the groom felt good, she enjoyed it, especially having her fur blow out. Such a sweet, big fluffy, pup. She could be a show dog.
When you told her she was going to feel amazing after that, she looked at you with such affection. Totally in love.

This woman saved the dogs life, possibly. I would be grateful too.
Risk of heat stroke was cut by 70%
@@ImmaSaveUFromMe
The double coat helps with the heat, plus panting with a tongue still wet.
That was phenomenal! The clumps just fell out with the dryer! Satisfying! And I bet she feels so so much better now. What a very sweet girl!
How sweet a dog! You did an amazing job. She is so gentle. 😊
This was a beautiful transformation and a very relaxing watch. Smoochie was a perfect princess, and you were her fairy godmother getting her ready for the ball. Lovely video as always.
WHAT A GOOD PUPPER!! I bet $10 the first thing she did when she got home was find some dirt to roll in 😂 Gorgeous dog, looks like she loves people.
I second this every time
It's the same exact thing my dog does, every single time I brush him or give him a bath. The second I'm done drying him off, he has to run around the house doing Zoomies lol. And then we have to go outside so he can roll around in the grass thoroughly lol. I love that little beast😂❤
I didn't really 'get it' until I saw the side-by-side before and after. Oh my goodness, that's incredible! Well done! She's such a beautiful animal.
