This game has the loveliest moding community, you can feel the love that is built into the work that they do. As well seeing the same names around and they all help each other with their passion projects bringing the quality on them all up
A very nice representation of right-handed voodoo in this class.
Just for folks who don't understand the terminology, "right-handed" mysticism is the use of mystic learning (such as voodoo) in socially or ethically acceptable ways - protection, blessings, and healing for example. The typical portrayal of voodoo is the "left-handed" voodoo, which is considered by most esoteric faiths to be abuse of their gifts.
Seeing this makes me so happy, cause it's true, I love that
I love this community so much. It is very rare to see accurate portrayal of things and before this video and reading through some comments I had very little knowledge of voodoo. I really love the idea of giving back it's true meaning to things and really hope it reaches out.
A couple missed notes:
- Her Crit Buff gives her +40% Stress Healing Received
- She uses the Athanaeum district
- Can only use 1 in a group
- Normal Virtues/Afflictions
More on her special quirks:
- Mystic (+): +25% Stress Heal Received from Mambo stress healing abilities
- Inquisitor (-): -20% Stress Heal Received from Mambo's stress healing abilities
- Bokor (+): Heroes with this trait (Mambo cannot get this trait) get 100% chance of receiving a buff of 5 ACC/ +3% CRIT until Battle ends when Mambo uses "Pinprick" on them. Buff doesn't stack and buff is only activated once during each battle.
- Loa Possessed (+): A hero with this trait has a 45% chance to receive a buff 3 SPD/ +20% DMG/ -15% Stress received for 3 rounds whenever Mambo uses any of her stress healing abilities on them (this trait can also be applied to Mambo since Husband's Embrace is a stress healing ability)
- Samedi's Plaything (-): A hero with this trait has a 33% chance of gaining a debuff of -3 SPD/ +15% DMG received/ -5 ACC for 3 rounds when receiving stress healing from any of Mambo's stress healing abilities. This trait can also be applied to Mambo.
Had someone recommend the Mambo to me during my stream of Darkest Dungeon today. I looked up this video to get some more information about it, and I nearly spat out my drink when I saw the author, because the person who recommended it to me during my stream was Ebonybetty themselves.
how do these modders make their classes look like actual darkest dungeon characters? they look like straight from the game.
It's literally just ripping off Mike Mignola's art style but with weird toddler proportions, it's not that hard.

I just love this character through and through. I don’t see much honest voodoo representation and seeing the back story and her moves, she’s a great mod 10/10 would contact the loa again.

I've got the mambo installed on my current estate. She's a very enjoyable class, but I do need to remember to take her along more often.
I really love the design of this mid, but similar to the snake charmer I feel like there's no real reason to take her out over let's say a jester.
I had similar problems with the snake charmer.
Any tips on how you use her in a composition?
@@couchpotatoe91 Personally I enjoy her versatility. I use her in conjunction with the Keeper mod, and get Keeper on 4, Mambo on 3, and usually run tanks/high dps in 2 and 1. My favorite are Highwayman 2 and Leper 1.

Vodou is like all religions, a product of it's peoples history interactions and environment. When slaves were brought from Africa they were forbidden to continue their religion and were told to convert to Christianity. The form they took was a mixing of the two beliefs where now most Loa have a christian saint counterpart who shared a similar focus.
Vodou is predominantly used for guidance and healing. It was even said that during the Haitian revolts against the slave owners they called upon the Loa of Iron Ogoun to make themselves stronger and impervious to weapons. Now a days the rituals are used for the same reasons anyone else prays, for guidance when you feel lost, fortune before big life events, and healing when things go wrong.
It's not uncommon for a Loa to possess a person during their rituals. There is nothing scary or evil about it, it is simply viewed as a means by which the Loa can directly talk to people to advise them. Even when the Loa of Death appears it is viewed as a celebration since he is also the Loa of sex and humor (the idea being that they are the 3 aspects that unite all humanity. We all laugh, we all have sex [hopefully], and we all die).
The negative stigma surrounding Vodou came about in the early 20s I believe when a little white girl went missing. The details of the case were thrown out the window and tails of evil magic was sold to a very racist american public. Movies and stories picked up the idea from there until we are left with our modern notions of vodou.
Back when I was working on my masters degree in religion my friend was a Mambo, nicest person you ever met. She was always happy to answer questions about her beliefs and when she learned I had a UA-cam channel she was all types of supportive and told her friends to follow me as well. That last part has nothing to do with the topic it's just a nice anecdote. Anyway congrats on reading all the way to the end of a strangers rant on a UA-cam video. Hope you enjoyed it.

Is that to say curses aren't a thing in vodoo then?
@@Freekymoho They are but they are messed up. Anyone who deals in curses is viewed as corrupted and evil. Like with anything some people use it for messed up stuff. You're suppose to use it to help others but curses are possible. You would go to a mambo to remove the curse if that happened.
So... a Highwayman with the Crimson Court trinket set and the Lucky Feather buff has a 85% Virtue Chance. Who's in the mood for torching a few books?

Her theme reminds me of dr. Facilier from disneys „ Princess and the frog”. Or maybe I just like the more witch doctor(ish) characters
From a gameplay point of view, its interesting as hell to see a ranged-focused class that can do stuff from second position and has amazingly usefull utility that will come into play no matter the team or situation. In other words: thats probably the best non-healer support class I have ever seen.

Now this is something I wish was in the game! This character is bad ass in almost every way. Really interesting backstory, creative abilities, awesome character design and most important matches the atmosphere perfectly.
Haven't tried the class yet (I definitely will, looks great), but as far as I'm concerned the rooster is the MVP

Nice am gonna try this. Looks similar to another mode called the soothsayer, u should try its interesting to say the least.
I'd pair her with a flag, SB n MAA or a PD n GB for dancing.

Hey, since you seem like you are currently pumping out class mod overviews like crazy recently, I would personally recommend that you look at the class called "The thorn", she is a pretty decent class that provides two stances for her to fight with, these being defense and offensive, changing how she works depending on her stance.
I'm actually waiting on the latest version for the Thorn before I do a video, but I am in talks with Baybot and Mhnlo about it. :) Really elegant class, and I cannot wait!
I think she has some pretty powerful abilities, so I wouldn't wanna pick "the strongest", but I do think you underrated her de-buff ("You dare?!") that lowers enemy damage and stun resist. Lowering stun resist is pretty unique and powerful, and it will probably allow parties to chain-stun dangerous monsters or even bosses a lot more reliably. That in of itself is pretty damn strong, especially if you get to stack it several times, which is potentially insane in cases where stalling fights for a bit of needed recovery comes in. If the minus stun resist and the minus damage dealt both increase as the skill gets levelled up, I think it's a really solid pick which can prevent a lot of damage from targets you can't kill quickly enough, perhaps to the point where it could trivialize bosses with relatively low base stun resist.
Having said that, I would have liked to see these skills maxed out, to get an idea how they scale. I know it's going to take a bit more effort to make a video in that case, but showing off the skills on level 1 only really doesn't say much.
Some religious inaccuracies aside (For example Loa aren't Gods, because Vodou - or however you prefer to spell it where you live - is a monotheistic religion and Loa are something you could think of in a similar way as perhaps Christianity's arch-angels), it seems like a pretty cool class. To be fair, and to avoid nitpicking for all night, I think it's really meant to be more of a hommage to the way Hollywood likes to present their idea of what a Mambo is, and I think in that regard it works just fine.
This channel is the sole reason I maintain any interest in this game. At least until the next game comes out

Not gonna lie, this looks OP as hell... guaranteed party stress heal AND stress buff? Not to mention the crazy all party guard, and blight damage that not only rivals that of the Plague Doctor, but can hit every position, FROM almost any position, and debuffs their blight resist on top of all that. Wild.
Do you think you might try out the drowner from steam? I saw it and thought it was pretty cool but I haven't seen much on UA-cam about the class.

I agree there's some excellent theme and detail on this one. I almost had a video lined up for All-Hallows, but this might have to be it given how much else I have going on.
I believe there have been some viking themes on the Workshop. I know that Von Krolok and team had a norse character in the works, but I don't think it was ever finished.

I don't know why but most of the mods characters seens odd compared to the original characters. The original oneshave a an iconic design color/tones and shadows are unique and really coesive and the mods try to copy it but must fail while gettin really close to it
So whose going to name their Mambo unit Monica? Maybe Erica? Perhaps a little of us would name her Rita. Maybe even Tina what I can see. Maybe a Sandra if it comes? Or maybe even a Mary and play all night long. Why not Jessica if you can?

Weak hero with poor design. She feels not like woodo priest, but more like some gypsy beggar. With rooster, lol. In battle she just inferior version of Jester with less stressheal plus self damage and zero dps. And her guard is just PRESS X TO DIE, especially in mid-late game dungeons.
First off that's a slur, they're called Romani not gypsy's. Second did you miss the bit where this was in part based on someone's grandma? Pretty sure it's accurate. More accurate than the spooky skulls and curses Hollywood version.
