A few notes I left out from Steam: "What district does the Apostate use?" The Athenaeum. "Any party class restrictions?" None! She can team up with any class. "Can I use multiple Apostates in a party?" Yes! However, the class was balanced around one Apostate per party. Using multiple is extremely strong, but I decided to allow this because it is also extremely fun. "What is her crit effect?" She gains Death's Door resistance when she crits. "Custom afflictions/virtues?" The goal was for Apostate to feel like a new vanilla class. She therefore uses the normal pool of afflictions & virtues. "Does she have a special low health or death effect?" No, for the same reason as above. "What is her default name?" Dolores. "Will the Apostate conflict with any other mods?" Not to my knowledge - I was careful to avoid mechanics/features that may conflict.
P.s. i dont want to be annoying or something, i just didnt see him in your vids. I just thought that maybe you didnt know about him. Ok, am actually annoying
ElementFive just a note to say that with apostate version 1.1, I have addressed the balance issue when there were multiple apostates together in a party. Still strong, but no longer insane :P

As of this writing this, this is my first time seeing this and... I've got mixed feelings about this mod. I don't usually mess around with mechanics that deliberately harm/hinder your party, as this game is adamantly out to bury you. Some of the mechanics are really awesome, like being able to weaponize enemy corpses and grant blocks of aegis. I also really like how the sprite redesigns imply that necromancy is to the Church of the Light much like the Sith are to the Jedi. I'll have to give this a try, see how well it goes.

I absolutely love classes like this that put a dark twist on the topic of religion. Works especially well with how open-ended and vaguely put the 'Church' in Darkest Dungeon vanilla is. The Apostate, the Divinity, can't get enough of 'em.

Whenever I see mod classes that more or less reuse the base models of in-game classes, I tend to be dissuaded- but most that I've given a chance have really surprised me with how high-quality they are. The Shield Maiden, the Vamp, the Ronin, more- well-done skills and fun mechanics can really change everything for these classes and for the Apostate, the case is the same. I hope to continually be pleasantly surprised by more and more from this awesome mod community! edit: also if you're not using her with the Flagellant or one of the modded classes like Darkwraith, then I'm calling official shenanigans business on you.
Yeah, I don't like having to see the same thing you see in vanilla but changed to a different color or what-not. But it's still good to give the class a try!
I often share the same degree of prejudice about classes that don't use new art assets, too, but as you say, there are some amazing mods out there and artwork is incredibly expensive... And I think the Heretic skin really works here. :)

Hey ! Anti' here, i'm the one who did the Heretic Vestal skin ( and so, Apostate skin :P ). I second E5 on this, art for a new class cost quite a lot of money, even more if you're gonna pay for a new skeleton to animate, it's worth hundred(s). Also, not everyone have Spine, the only soft that allow us to do these new skeletons and animations, which is itself worth 300$ USD. On my side, I don't have spine, I have few to non existent skill in actual drawing which is why I'm only reusing vanilla assets and more importantly, I'm only a skin maker not doing commissions or new classes. So the Apostate look is the result of HolyChicken asking me if he could use my vestal skin to do a new class, which I was more than happy to accept ! I hope to have answered some points about these specific vanilla reusing assets new classes. I'd be happy if even if her look isn't brand new, you'd give her a chance ! Anyway have fun in DD ! :D

The Bogatyr, the Itinerant Cook, the Exile, the Blazing Lord, the Wanderer, the Practitioner, the Salamander- and even as I type this I just know there's more coming. It's crazy, man.
I like this class is very fun to play with death and the darkwraith with this classis very good considering the darkwraith itself gets buffed when he is death's door and with a certain mod you can get a trinket that makes a hero immortal and with the martyr seal or other trinkets like that that it sounds pretty fun. The eye of mortality does make you take a lot more stress when you're at death's door can you could still die from a heart attack but I like the high-risk high-reward
This character is a must have for those really hard bossfights where you're likely to spend a large amount of time at or below 50% health anyway, such as the countess.
A good mod character idea I have is this bucher-like cannival that concentrates on bleeding and healing himself vía eating corpes( but can only eat 2 small ones and 1 big one each 10-15 turns/map squares) and doing so gives strees to the party. So it’s a “screw everyone except me” kind of character, if you don’t count a buff or two that he can gives to allys or deffufs that are mostly for him but that another guy can take advantege of
I'm thinking about a party of the Succubus, Apostate, Flagellant, and Shrapnel. Not entirely certain how it all fits together but something that came to mind
For me, the Apostate simply does one job, sit behind the line and keep giving one extra move to my main damage dealer like Xiao or Elesis or Red mist hehehe

I think Will to Live should also get +1 Speed +5% damage -10% stress taken to counteract the negative effects of death's door recovery(which is -2 acc ,-1speed,-5% damage and +10% stress taken). I get that it's basically just Jester's Tiger's Eye (timecost 3 +10acc +8% crit) but it's technically a +8acc due to death's door recovery and then the other stuff on top.

This class looks like they were MADE to be paired with Flagellant. Two classes that rely on themselves or their allies being at low HP to be at their most effective. Maybe since Flagellant doesn’t get mortality debuffs they might not be super OP together, but for the Apostate to lower Flagellant’s hp and then buff them on top of the buffs they already get? That sounds broken enough already.
I would say her strongest combinations end up being characters that can mitigate drawback of receiving extra damage while having single move powerful move where extra action multiplies its effects. One such example is Graverobber+Apostate. Normally Graverobber needs 2 turns to lunge+Shadowfade. With her, you can lunge+shadowfade in 1 turn and penalty of taking extra damage are largely ignored by stealth. Pair this with Shieldbreaker that can inflict blight at level 3 to all enemies and graverobber's satchet that increase damage output on blight enemy+her crimson court dagger and you get a hard hitting damage dealer. Another example is highwayman(Dismas). With very rare buckle that increases ranged damage, you can spam grapeshots and stack loads of critical chance buffs clearing hallways in record time. Dismas pistol has synergy with marks, so you can basically mark someone with a character like Occultist and than spam pistol shot on strong units with greatly enhanced damage. mantoarm's guard is great tool at mitigating damage increase drawbacks by guarding. her whole gimmick of lowering health of allies doesn't seem rewarding because it often puts you 1 hit away from deathdoor and mortality penalty isn't worth the risks. so overall, she's enhancer to hyper carry strategies related to marks/rogue characters or a pull bot that mesh really well with high dodge strategies with Aegis.
Just getting back into DD modding and your videos have been incredibly helpful for helping break down some of the more complex mod classes. Will you be making a class review of the Bogatyr?
I don't know where else to ask, but what about moon light dungeon? I haven't heard any news for a long time, and I would be glad to know if the mod is still in development?
A bit old, but any interest in Exaelus' classes? They all seem fairly interesting mechanically and I think I saw you use one of them in your modded Endless run at one point.
white necromancy vs dark necromancy also i know i really can't judge this but i hope they can give the character a more unique sprite set. Also this might synergy well with the flagellant.

I personally find that dual Apostates in the back is the way to go with them--both start things off with the Texts, then one hangs out back and handles support duties, the other goes up front and exploits the buffs with the offense. Haven't used her much, but the best squad I have managed with her so far is Apostate/Apostate/Clobber/Vamp. Seeing as how you might be streaming today, I recommend a much older mod to compliment with her, someone who is low-HP and mostly burst damage, with its main draw being a nutso CRIT rate, both as its base and as a part as all of its Skills. Certain aspects of the presentation lack polish, but the concept is quite fun I think. Gamarde 123 Creator here. The walking corpse is a summon that lives for 2 turns, but cannot be killed by conventional means. If you have one trinket he will do a small damage attack only, but if you have the trinket set bonus he instead can do a more damaging attack, or a stunning attack. He also counts as a corpse for the purposes of Desecrate
UA-cam University TheHolyChicken here. I don’t want to give it all away, but it’s a skeleton that spawns on the enemy team and will help attack enemies with you. When you have both parts of the trinket set it gains extra abilities!
Lemme get this strait: Only really works when party is low, only after a camp does she shine with bonus prot. Absolutely no bonus death's door protection, no increase towards virtues. Yeah, that'll be a hard pass.

You could probably play her and ignore the mechanics. Just use the stress heal, the attack pull, the corpse explosion and one other skill.

This character is a must have for those really hard bossfights where you're likely to spend a large amount of time at or below 50% health anyway, such as the countess.

A good mod character idea I have is this bucher-like cannival that concentrates on bleeding and healing himself vía eating corpes( but can only eat 2 small ones and 1 big one each 10-15 turns/map squares) and doing so gives strees to the party. So it’s a “screw everyone except me” kind of character, if you don’t count a buff or two that he can gives to allys or deffufs that are mostly for him but that another guy can take advantege of

I'm thinking about a party of the Succubus, Apostate, Flagellant, and Shrapnel. Not entirely certain how it all fits together but something that came to mind

For me, the Apostate simply does one job, sit behind the line and keep giving one extra move to my main damage dealer like Xiao or Elesis or Red mist hehehe

Love your videos! Playing a lot more of darkest dungeon, the high priestess mod is pretty cool but a little buggy but still pretty cool
I think Will to Live should also get +1 Speed +5% damage -10% stress taken to counteract the negative effects of death's door recovery(which is -2 acc ,-1speed,-5% damage and +10% stress taken). I get that it's basically just Jester's Tiger's Eye (timecost 3 +10acc +8% crit) but it's technically a +8acc due to death's door recovery and then the other stuff on top.

Theres some really new and incredible classes made by Kaze in the DD workshop now and I really hope you could take a look at them and review them. :)
Feels like it would combo pretty well with a Flagellant, low health skills and what not
This class looks like they were MADE to be paired with Flagellant. Two classes that rely on themselves or their allies being at low HP to be at their most effective. Maybe since Flagellant doesn’t get mortality debuffs they might not be super OP together, but for the Apostate to lower Flagellant’s hp and then buff them on top of the buffs they already get? That sounds broken enough already.
I would say her strongest combinations end up being characters that can mitigate drawback of receiving extra damage while having single move powerful move where extra action multiplies its effects.
One such example is Graverobber+Apostate. Normally Graverobber needs 2 turns to lunge+Shadowfade. With her, you can lunge+shadowfade in 1 turn and penalty of taking extra damage are largely ignored by stealth. Pair this with Shieldbreaker that can inflict blight at level 3 to all enemies and graverobber's satchet that increase damage output on blight enemy+her crimson court dagger and you get a hard hitting damage dealer.
Another example is highwayman(Dismas). With very rare buckle that increases ranged damage, you can spam grapeshots and stack loads of critical chance buffs clearing hallways in record time. Dismas pistol has synergy with marks, so you can basically mark someone with a character like Occultist and than spam pistol shot on strong units with greatly enhanced damage. mantoarm's guard is great tool at mitigating damage increase drawbacks by guarding.
her whole gimmick of lowering health of allies doesn't seem rewarding because it often puts you 1 hit away from deathdoor and mortality penalty isn't worth the risks. so overall, she's enhancer to hyper carry strategies related to marks/rogue characters or a pull bot that mesh really well with high dodge strategies with Aegis.

A bit old, but any interest in Exaelus' classes? They all seem fairly interesting mechanically and I think I saw you use one of them in your modded Endless run at one point.
Also would have amazing synergy with the Veiled, who gets stronger the less health he has.
Man if you're using mods the Darkwraith class can become an unstopabble beast with the Apostate

Yeah... The Apostate is a hero I might never use. While they seem interesting, I prefer keeping my heroes max health or as close to it as possible.

i recommend looking at bogatyr -- probably my favorite class mod so far!
I personally find that dual Apostates in the back is the way to go with them--both start things off with the Texts, then one hangs out back and handles support duties, the other goes up front and exploits the buffs with the offense.
Haven't used her much, but the best squad I have managed with her so far is Apostate/Apostate/Clobber/Vamp.
Seeing as how you might be streaming today, I recommend a much older mod to compliment with her, someone who is low-HP and mostly burst damage, with its main draw being a nutso CRIT rate, both as its base and as a part as all of its Skills. Certain aspects of the presentation lack polish, but the concept is quite fun I think. If you have room for it, add this familiar...and fishy...fellow to the roster:

One of the trinket summons a "walking corpse" what can it do ?
Gamarde 123 Creator here. The walking corpse is a summon that lives for 2 turns, but cannot be killed by conventional means. If you have one trinket he will do a small damage attack only, but if you have the trinket set bonus he instead can do a more damaging attack, or a stunning attack. He also counts as a corpse for the purposes of Desecrate

What was the walking corpse mentioned on a couple trinkets?
UA-cam University TheHolyChicken here. I don’t want to give it all away, but it’s a skeleton that spawns on the enemy team and will help attack enemies with you. When you have both parts of the trinket set it gains extra abilities!
Lemme get this strait: Only really works when party is low, only after a camp does she shine with bonus prot. Absolutely no bonus death's door protection, no increase towards virtues. Yeah, that'll be a hard pass.
