He told us his favorite shows were college campuses. We lost a great one when we lost him.
Legitimately the most underrated comedian of all time. He could do everything. Song, dance, physical, visual all wrapped up into one complete package. Correction.... it was Showtime, not HBO. He's the reason I subscribed to cable in the 80's. Met him at Walmart's in Orange CT. Saw him later that same day for a show in Stamford, CT. That was 2013 or 14. He did what no other comedian did on stage. Only one Gallagher. I am and will always be a huge fan.
Rest in peace Gallagher you were truly one funny young man that made me thinking earlier days I particularly remember and loved your bit about parking on the driveway driving on the parkway paying to get on the freeway getting on the expressway to sit in traffic as if I'm not mistaken thank God we have UA-cam we should be able to look up many if not most of his HBO specials it's worth it in my opinion.
I literally cried when I heard that he died. The world is a sadder place without him in it. Thank you so much for the years of laughter and insight. I pray that you are happy wherever you are.
His was a sad story for sure. He went from selling out amphitheaters to doing bar gigs. I read some where that his net worth at the time of his death was a measly 200 thousand dollars.
RIP Leo Gallagher or simply Gallagher 😢🍉 Gallagher was one of my absolute favorite comedians when I was growing up, he was hilarious and one of a kind. His comedy covered so many topics, he had bits on society, politics, relationships, the sexes, race, pop culture, the english language, growing up, and growing old. I always considered him one of the smart comedians, he was clever, witty, and sharp as a tack. Some of my favorite bits of his involved social commentary, politics and the education system. He took you off guard because here was this zany looking wacky character who all of a sudden was saying some really interesting and intelligent things all the while with that sly little gleem in his eye. Of course he was most famous for his Sledge 'O' Matic routine at the end of his shows where he'd demonstrate the finest little handy dandy kitchen helper money could buy, and in the process cover his audience in just about every and anything you could find at your local grocery store. It got to the point where people in the first four rows would wear rain ponchos and garbage bags because they already knew what they were instore for. Gallagher was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed 😔 Rest easy my friend, none of us will ever forget our favorite fun loving, fruit smashing funny man. Thanks for the laughs 🍉 🕯️❤️

This stuff is so funny and clever, and very insightful. It shows you how the mind works. When you hear little kids learning to speak and they make "mistakes" like saying "Gooder" - it shows that their brain is developing and understanding concepts like prefixes and suffixes and what they mean, but then we just confuse them and tell them, oh no, that's not how you're supposed to say it. It really makes you wonder if our language was more consistent and made sense if we would any better off, instead of bogging our minds down at their most formative years with wildly inconsistent rules about the language.
Thanks Xoilen and life is crazy and I love my friends and how do they control me?... With threats and how do I deal with threats?.... The same way Gallagher dealt with them, I be myself. WOW!
Decades ago, I was fortunate enough to see Gallagher at the Sahara in Las Vegas. It was a late show, as is to be expected in Vegas, and the material was most certainly adult, but that didn't stop a couple in the front row from bringing their child (likely elementary school age). Gallagher came on stage, began his routine and looked down and saw the child. You could tell he was troubled and perplexed. Children were NOT supposed to be in the audience, at least to his way of thinking. He questioned the parents as to why they'd bring a child to an "adult" show and rather than wait for an answer began chastising them for doing so. He stopped, returned to his routine and a bit later returned to chastising the parents. It was obvious he was waiting for them to leave so he could begin his material in earnest. They didn't move a muscle. So he continued a bit more and didn't hold back. F-Bombs everywhere, initially to try and convince the parents to leave so he could go full Gallagher. Still nothing from Mr. & Mrs. Moron. So he ignored them, continued his show and began speaking directly to the child and cursing. Not cursing at the child, but using words, like Smegma, words the child had never heard before and then he provided the child (and by extension the rest of the audience) a definition and example. Still the parents remained, as did the child. At one point he asked the child, "Do you know you have idiots for parents?" Yeah, they are fucking morons for bringing you to my show, so let's make sure it is a show you won't forget. Then as only Gallagher can do, he abandoned his set material and began verbally eviscerating mom and dad. The impromptu attacks were funnier than any of his material, which he'd interject between admonishing the parents and using more profane words the child didn't understand (ex: pink taco), words the parents would have to explain. He asked the child if he liked tacos and then before he could answer, said that PINK tacos are the best ever and he should ask his parents to take him out for one somewhere down the strip after the show. The audience howled and the parents sat like stone. A bit later a man, who apparently took some exception to the modified material, said a couple of things I am sure he wished he hadn't. Gallagher's attention was then split between the heckler and the imbecils who brought their child to his show. Eventually the show came to a standstill as he began banter with the man who we learned was a taxi-driver of middle-eastern decent. Gallagher alternated between talking to the child, demeaning his parents at every opportunity, and the taxi-driver who become more embolden with each cocktail and attack on the parents. Finally Gallagher had had enough and began decimating the driver. His first comment was, "So you do get out of your taxis. So why don't you ever take a bath?" Without doubt it was the funniest hour of my entire life, despite having seen more famous comedians, such as G. Carlin in the late 70's.
“Why is toilet paper 🧻 cut the way it is? Has any of you just needed one of them little squares? I use two for a booger don’t you?? I don’t go diggin’ with one ply.” 😂😂😂
He is by far one of the most intelligent, intuitive, and poignant comedians ever. The mind, he always uses it and he made you use yours. It makes sense, and this 7-minute schtick brings you back to English class doesn't it?
Gallagher is arguably the best comedian who specializes in physical humor. Steven Wright, Henny Youngman and Mitch Hedberg are/were awesome with one-liners. Robert Klein does a perfect show and a perfect set and it is hilarious start to finish. He's one of the all-time greats who is still living. Joan River was the funniest female comic ever, but Ellen DeGeneres cracks me up, too sometimes, and we could go back to Paula Poundstone and Phyllis Diller. But if you're going strictly on how hard they made me laugh, we're talking about the late greats: Norm MacDonald, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Sam Kinison, and the greatest ever, of course was Gilbert Gottfried. Gilbert was doing his usual filthy set one night and killing, like he always did, and one apparently prudish woman got up to leave, and Gilbert said to her, "Miss, Miss, was it something I said?" ROFL. Gilbert's roast of George Takei is beyond epic. All of our beloved comedians made our lives a little better and they all deserve a place in our hearts, including Gallagher. Nobody swung a funnier mallet.
Back in the 90’s he came to our home town! And I was a police officer assigned to him when he arrived in our town and he was just as funny alone than on stage ! He took the officers all out to dinner we had an amazing brunch and we took care of him and he was an amazing guy I stayed in contact with him and when he passed I attended his funeral and I really miss my friend 🥺
You surely aren't talking about Gallagher. I was certainly never offended by anything he ever said but he could handle good ol' AngloSaxonisms with the best of them.
Hello Jordan Merchant, I grew up growing my own food and killing animals for meat too survive, not because I had too... but if I didn't I would starve too death in China. Did my parents lie to me?... No Worries! God loves all of us and being a good parent takes a lot of knowledge, huh?
Gallagher lived near me in Richmond, IN in his later years, and even performed in tiny Reily, OH outside of Hamilton at a little bar. I wish I would've gone to see him there!
Probably the biggest comic influencer of my childhood. Ive seen more Gallagher specials than other as kid and watched each more times than i could count. Smilesotheylikeyou
Growing up (pre-and-early internet) having only seen clips of "sledge-o-matic" I clicked this with a what the hell type attitude and 2 jokes in I was like "ok.. I'm in" In the 90s I was presented Gallagher as somewhat of a hack and none of his stuff was aired in its entirety on TV. Wish I had seen them if they ever were. Carlin was (still is) the king of HBO when I was a kid. looks like we got a rabbit hole to get into. respect

Gage There you are, I had absolutely no doubt that I would find you. I like to watch music videos and comedy videos because there is ALWAYS at least one person in the comment section that claims whatever band, member of that band or whatever comedian is the most underrated ever. It’s really quite fascinating that there are so many of you out there. I just watched a Bill Hicks video and someone said he was the most underrated comedian ever. Everybody can’t be the most underrated ever, so go figure.
Penroy Moonbeam Yes, but what is fascinating is how all of a sudden it’s become the thing to do, make the most underrated comment. Every once in a while I will see a most overrated comment, but mostly it’s the most underrated comment I see. It’s just a fad that will pass when everyone gets tired of jumping on board the bandwagon. The comment I have never seen is the he is the most perfectly rated person ever. Maybe someday.
@@afterburner2869 That's because everybody is different. There are different types of comedians so Bill Hicks and a few others can all be the most underrated in their particular field. Opinions, on the other hand, are overrated.
I surely do miss Gallagher....First time I saw him he was opening for 'America' and I had no idea who he was.... He had me on the floor laughing....This was before the watermelon stuff....
My earliest memory of him was my dad laughing at him riding a bicycle with a car door mounted on it. The window was rolled down & he had his arm on the door. It was on Johnny Carson. Damn it, I miss you, Johnny. I miss you dad.
he got bitter as he got older. but in his prime, his material was for intellectuals mostly. his jokes make you think and go "hey...that's a good point" or "hey, I never thought about it like that lol" or something of that nature. love Gallagher.
His brother screwed him by trying to tour as "Gallagher "also. Had to take him to court. I saw him live in his later years playing at a casino on a reservation. He was still funny, but yes, bitter. Still loved him though.
arguably the greatest comedian that ever died too. when mom and pop video rental stores were a thing a few times a month I'd bring home a Gallagher vhs tape for the weekend. very clean comedy. pg-13. he perfect target imo.
Gallagher has always had an amazing mind, especially when he starts dissing the English language or pointing out the stupid things people do. Maybe in his later years he seems to be angry. I don't know what's with that, but back in the 70s, 80s and 90's, the guys intillect with the ridiculous was unmatched.
@@albertalbert7958 That's funny, I googled it and got this: About 57,600,000 results (0.89 seconds) Showing results for intellect Search instead for intillect Go figure
Gallagher, George Carlin, and Robin Williams were more than comedians. They were brilliant intellectuals that constantly questioned how we live as humans. Comedians tell jokes they’ve written. These guys were in a class by themselves. You didn’t just enjoy the show and laugh. You actually left the show THINKING about the logic of the problems that they had discussed during their performances.
He literally says "This shit don't make sense" at the end. Science shows people that use profanity often are actually smarter than those who refrain. 🤷🏼♀️

I was privileged to see him many years ago in Ventura CA. He was great. It is a true shame he isn't with us any longer.
i just love the chaos all over the floor at the beginning, and it’s even better that it’s normal in one of his performances
Thank you for sharing!
He’s the best for many reasons but for me it’s because you can watch him with the whole family. No swearing.
You surely aren't talking about Gallagher. I was certainly never offended by anything he ever said but he could handle good ol' AngloSaxonisms with the best of them.
His routines were just the best and funny as hell. RIP funny man.
I love youtube, otherwise I would never have known he does more than smash watermelons. He's pretty good.
Lol we went from “best comedian ever” to .. “he’s pretty good”
I'm calling them "builts" from now on!
Yes! 😂
One of my favourite jokes ever.
I grew up on Gallagher. Love his stuff. Maybe not the best ever, but heavily underrated. I recommend the Book Keeper or the Maddest.
The Bookkeeper is my all time favorite. The Maddest was alright.
@@kevinscarborough9982 definitely!!!👍
Oh he is the best.
@AgentFlea true. Too much focus on the gimmick and not enough attention to his intelligence
Hello Jordan Merchant,
I grew up growing my own food and killing animals for meat too survive, not because I had too... but if I didn't I would starve too death in China.
One of my all time favorites
One of the best!
Absolutely hilarious one of my all-time favorites
Probably the biggest comic influencer of my childhood. Ive seen more Gallagher specials than other as kid and watched each more times than i could count.
Smilesotheylikeyou
This guy was so much more than just a sledgehammer skit. But that's all most people think of him.
Genius
Couldn’t wait for his TV specials to come out
Growing up (pre-and-early internet) having only seen clips of "sledge-o-matic" I clicked this with a what the hell type attitude and 2 jokes in I was like "ok.. I'm in"
In the 90s I was presented Gallagher as somewhat of a hack and none of his stuff was aired in its entirety on TV. Wish I had seen them if they ever were. Carlin was (still is) the king of HBO when I was a kid.
looks like we got a rabbit hole to get into.
respect
Dear Danny Adivo,
Thank you for posting this and I love it. How much trouble are you in for sharing this video
with others? ... I'm all in for love and the only people who hate, have yet too be educated with Love. No Worries.... AMEN!
“Murica” 😅😂🤣
I saw him way back live. With my Dad and my cousin. He was incredible!
I think youtube faild me ..... I am 64 years old and I have just discovered Gallagher ..... and now is a good time to discover laughter.
Dear Ray Dreamer... Who gave you permission to think? LOL = Lots of Love and lol = laughing out loud.
Answer the question if you can.
When I was a kid, his morning reruns were just the best!
If y'all love Gallagher, please look up the old "make me laugh" show. Gallagher, Bruce Baum, Bill kirkenbauer. Such great comedians .
I had forgotten all about that show!! Thanks for reminding me!!😂
I saw him three times in Kansas City. He put on a great show each time. Very funny and entertaining.
He's a comic and a genius
Rest in peace Gallagher.
Gallagher a legend on a Carlin level with a lighter tone so everyone can digest.
Hello Hold's Corner TV,
Digest this... I love you, why?
It's simple... you don't hate me enough too kill me, huh?
Then What?.... You laugh at me and I laugh at you and who wins?"
We Both Win! .... Love Rules, Hate Drools.
Subscribed. I love him.❤
I watched this special like 20 times when I was a kid.
Dave Brock Same here
I'm so sharing this on Facebook.💝
The most underrated comedian.
@@afterburner2869 no, but everybody can have an opinion.
I feel that Gallagher is not rated very high.
Proud to say I’m mutuals with the man who was given rights to his sledge o matic and I love it a lot
My favorite comedian when I was a kid in the '80s. That says something because you can't let kids watch stand-up nowadays.
I surely do miss Gallagher....First time I saw him he was opening for 'America' and I had no idea who he was....
He had me on the floor laughing....This was before the watermelon stuff....
Definitely the most underrated comedy bit of all time.
I could never use the word bitter to describe Gallagher. He still tours and is still hilarious and intelligent.
His brother screwed him by trying to tour as "Gallagher "also. Had to take him to court. I saw him live in his later years playing at a casino on a reservation. He was still funny, but yes, bitter. Still loved him though.
1:40 Holy shit, he already was saying "Murrica". What a pioneer....
Was never a big fan of his or his type of comedy, but I would watch a few min of some of his stuff every once in awhile. RIP man.
arguably the greatest comedian that ever died too.
when mom and pop video rental stores were a thing
a few times a month I'd bring home a Gallagher vhs
tape for the weekend. very clean comedy. pg-13.
he perfect target imo.
They are not the same guy.
Googled intillect, nothing came up.
@@albertalbert7958 That's funny, I googled it and got this:
About 57,600,000 results (0.89 seconds)
Showing results for intellect
Search instead for intillect
Go figure
You aren't getting angry watching everyone become less intelligent the older you get?
Seen this over 35 years ago, still awesome ❤
Gallagher, George Carlin, and Robin Williams were more than comedians. They were brilliant intellectuals that constantly questioned how we live as humans. Comedians tell jokes they’ve written. These guys were in a class by themselves. You didn’t just enjoy the show and laugh. You actually left the show THINKING about the logic of the problems that they had discussed during their performances.
Seriously one of the best,so underrated 😅😅
Genius clean and intelligent we need more of this back in today’s comedic society!
Patrick Ancona lol true!
Ok boomer.
He literally says "This shit don't make sense" at the end. Science shows people that use profanity often are actually smarter than those who refrain. 🤷🏼♀️
@@unstablecreature88 what science? Where? That’s more of a matter of opinion. He rarely swore was my point. Smart people don’t want to listen to a potty mount incessantly.
@@theupchucktheclown ok millennial idiot! Did you learn that at the cliche store? How is 40 a boomer? Is that the best you can do?
Awesome 😎 thanks brother!!🙏
I love observational comedy.
I'm a child of the 80s and remember how amazed I was when I discovered the Marx Brothers decades afrer they were long gone. I legitimately never knew who Leo Gallgher was, clearly a tremendous comic talent, but I will absorb every last bit of his comic genius I can find. It's a crying shame more people didn't witness the genius of his comedy.
Gallagher is hilarious
Went to his SHOW in Las Vegas
