Unlike Mortal Kombat, Injustice has a hold back to block system in contrast to MK’s button block. Also, instead of a traditional round system, there’s a lives system, so players don’t regain all their health between fights. There are also nuances with the combo system and buttons. I find it hilarious how quickly brushed aside the Injustice segment felt. Like it feels like each game from a bunch more pile was explained more than the zoned out injustice.
@@Choicental Doesn't Injustice have regular blocking where you have to hold back? I'd say that distinguishes it from Mortal Kombat a bit. It also has a lives system instead of a round system, which means your health doesn't get refilled between rounds.
That's bc Injustice was always just MK lite. Which is a shame bc DC characters deserve more than just playing like a lesser MK character. If superman isn't 8 way airdashing or blasting screen filling laser beams in your DC fighting game, then that's not a real DC fighting game.

I always feel embarassed telling people but DOA is unironically my all time favourite fighting game franchise. It just feels so satisfying to play and its far more accessible than tekken imo
@@bartimusprime5652 DOA is the series that introduced me to fighting games. While Guilty Gear Strive is my favorite, DOA2, 5 and 6 are still very important to me. And yes, I like DOA for the waifus too, no need to deny that.
Memes aside, Mario Kart DS offers a lot of technical room to grow with some of the most robust snaking and movement tech in the franchise, allowing for more player expression than just having good lines and getting good items. While it's inclusion in EVO was obviously a bit out of place, the game DID have competitive depth for a kart racer, and I spent a lot of time in the game.

this is an oddly well put together video for how much it's covering, usually these videos rush and the dude's talking a million miles per hour and barely really describing anything, even brushing over alot of shit to get that click bait "every fighter explained in 5 minutes or less" while only describing the big 3 and maybe like smash bros, but your script is just concise, well structured, easy to understand and gives a surprising amount of detail to each fighter given the videos length and the number of fighters included
It still the one that sells the most out of the 3…so yeah, it is the biggest fighting game franchise. Don’t come at me, I don’t even play it, but it is the truth ! It’s just not a popular competitive game.

You missed some popular franchises like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, DefJam, ClayFighter and Bloody Roar. Naruto UNS 4 sold more copies than the best-selling Tekken game ever, for example.

Wow this video was very comprehensive! The only omission I could think of that might have fit in this video would be the battle arena toshinden series.
@@chobanawanui7599 strive has been out for 4 years, and ever since its consistently had more players at events and more people playing it online at a given time. the past 4 evos its been at the top 3 games in terms of entrants and was number 1 for two of them. You're not giving the game any of the respect it deserves. MK hasn't been good since X and that's reflected by its playerbase.
3:00 I started actually playing fighting games with Street Fighter 6. Also got myself Tekken 8. And Virtua Fighter's the one I'd be extremely interested to get a new game of, so I could give it a try. It's the fighting game that sounds the most like it's right up my alley. Provided the rumoured next entry is on PC.

Also as a BFTG fan I gotta say that if you're looking at playing 2XKO, the game Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid shares a fair bit of the gameplay style with the tag system, even if it leans on more towards the style of MvC. Once again, great video! Looking forward to trying out 2XKO and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves!

What, no King of Fighters?! Looked at the description and it turned out it was in 9th. And hey it turns out there is Samsho too. Plus you didn't forget Art of Fighting and it ends with Fatal Fury is a turnaround from almost got furious to instant subs.
I knew Hinokakera had no chance of ever being mentioned, but I still think it's worth to mention it. Guile Win Quote has a video on this game and I recommend every fighting game enthusiast to try it out

I think the most iconic fighting game moment however is wombo combo, its still used in gaming terminology today and boasts almost 30million views edit: probably not more iconic but more popular but mainly for the meme so i think evo moment 37 is ultimately more iconic to the fgc

If you’re a big anime fan, they are soon releasing a HXH fight game titled: Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact. It’s going to be made by the developers of MVC3, with the same 3v3 super long combos style.

I know you were mainly focusing on traditional fighters, but you missed a couple of platform fighters (games like smash bros). Mainly Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla.
I think a lot of games, even street fighter, can have some really long combos, and kof especially when you play Ash, but compared to other team games you can do well with relatively normal length combos

Also, it would have been interesting not to talk only about Dragon Ball Fighter Z but also about the Super Butōden and the Budokai series, because they used completely different fighting systems. This is a great video! I looked for something like this a year ago when I tried to break into he fighting game genre and just bought old versions from most series on sale. So far I've head the most fun with the old Guilty Gear titles and KOF 13, and I thought UNI might be up there as well. But I never got around to really putting the time in either one of them. Now I'm mostly working on my Smash Ultimate game, but I'm about to give the newer Guilty Gear: Strive and Street Fighter 6 a chance as well. Games I missed in the video: Power Rangers, Jojo, Nickelodeon, Rivals (2), Brawlhalla, fighting herds, only move is hussle, footsies, Fist of North Star, maybe Lethal league Blaze and that mecha arena fighter.
8:36 in short if you are fan of tsukihime , (or any any type moon works: fate , kara no kyoukai, mahoyo , ...) or you are fan of a deep shield system alongside air combat or you want to see an animated curry for best girl ciel (also, that doa summary was pretty good, good visual, good character design, customs , deep HOLD System , interactive stages ,... and lore (if you go to play DOA Dimmention)
have you heard of eXceed? its a fighting game card game with set decks. its really good, just about as complex as video game fighters. its most recent release was a Guilty Gear version (just named Guilty Gear Board Game, though it is eXceed)
I hope we get to see a ton of 2D art style games make a massive comeback. I freaking LOVE the 2D art design. The unique 2D sprites, The movement, move sets, the level of creativity and visual art design overall is utterly Fascinating. I WISH we could start seeing more games like it. Anything instead of just getting stuck with more modern 3D style fighting games. I hope we see other types of games at least bring back the use of 2D art style. These kind of 2D visuals and characters hold up so well in my opinion. The design is almost timeless in some ways. I just cannot stand the 3D approach that's mixed in with some dumb doofus looking art style. Like a Frankenstein hybrid between Pixar art style and giant idiot looking art styles and character designs.. I just hope stuff like this makes a big comeback one day..

So far I've head the most fun with the old Guilty Gear titles and KOF 13, and I thought UNI might be up there as well. But I never got around to really putting the time in either one of them. Now I'm mostly working on my Smash Ultimate game, but I'm about to give the newer Guilty Gear: Strive and Street Fighter 6 a chance as well.
Games I missed in the video: Power Rangers, Jojo, Nickelodeon, Rivals (2), Brawlhalla, fighting herds, only move is hussle, footsies, Fist of North Star, maybe Lethal league Blaze and that mecha arena fighter.

have you heard of eXceed? its a fighting game card game with set decks. its really good, just about as complex as video game fighters. its most recent release was a Guilty Gear version (just named Guilty Gear Board Game, though it is eXceed)

@@Rocketknightgeek It was not, 2020 it wasn't part of the 9 main stage games and Evo online 2021 it wasn't a featured game.
I hope we get to see a ton of 2D art style games make a massive comeback. I freaking LOVE the 2D art design. The unique 2D sprites, The movement, move sets, the level of creativity and visual art design overall is utterly Fascinating. I WISH we could start seeing more games like it. Anything instead of just getting stuck with more modern 3D style fighting games. I hope we see other types of games at least bring back the use of 2D art style. These kind of 2D visuals and characters hold up so well in my opinion. The design is almost timeless in some ways. I just cannot stand the 3D approach that's mixed in with some dumb doofus looking art style. Like a Frankenstein hybrid between Pixar art style and giant idiot looking art styles and character designs.. I just hope stuff like this makes a big comeback one day..
