Why do people insist in using live versions of a song as an introduction. This is not the version of the music the band wants people to be the indication of their music. There is a reason why months or even years are spend making albums. Recording, re-recording, mixing, mastering, all of these things are done so they can present their art EXACTLY as they want it to be experienced. Live versions are great for people already familiar, but as a first time are less than ideal. Hey Alex, I'm starting to really like your channel. You've chosen music I've spent almost my entire life listening to, and it feels wonderful for someone, who identifies as a hip-hop head, to appreciate it. As for Wintersun and this song, the band is widely known for the fact, that they don't sample music or even edit it too much, so what you hear is actually what they do, not fake or anything; just pure talent and results of unbelievably hard work. As for the band and the song: I think the best place and time to listen to this song is a wintery night, alone under the stars - it makes one fill with amazement and awe. What this song represents to me, is divided in few mixed emotions. First, I believe it even has a concrete meaning; winters are hard here in the north, but with that comes the fact, that they are also beautiful. Being from the same country as the band, I think I can somehow relate to this. Secondly, I do believe, that the song seeks to describe inner struggles; either conquering them or succumbing to them and accepting one's fate. The idea of being a "son of winter and stars" seems to me a sort of inner belief, that the person in fact has the power to overcome the things set before him or herself, either by the fact that they are indeed originally the offspring of something, that seems to us humans as almost eternal, or just as some figurative idea of inner strength and fortitude. In the end, it's hard to tell. These are just mixed thoughts. Anyway, all the best to you and your channel. Keep the metal flag high. Regards, Tuomas
First off, thanks for reacting to this, it put a smile on my face and I've been waiting for this for a while. Ok, this is going to be a long comment, and I really hope you read it because it will make you appreciate this masterpiece even more... First things first: this is not a music video, it is a live recording. Let that sink in for a minute. THIS... IS... LIVE. You just experienced what is, in my opinion, one of the greatest metal compositions of all time. Period. So Jari, the lead musician, formed this band as a side project, and this song is his magnus opus. It took him over 6+ years to compose, as part of an album that he had to split into 2 parts (Time, and Time II is not released yet) because of how epic the endeavor was. Getting into a bit of technicalities, your average pop or rock song has between 60-200 tracks that are mixed to compose the final piece. Your more complex song contains in the neighborhood of about 400-500 different tracks for mixing. Sons of Winter and Stars is a composition of over 1400 tracks. Honestly, this track cannot be processed in just a single listen. There are countless layers and ebbs and floes that demand additional attentive listens; and believe me, the more you listen to it the more you will fucking love it. This band and every fuckin track they come out with is the product of a man's incomprehensible passion for metal and his incredible talent and hard work. Wintersun is one of the best metal bands ever, they are amazing, there are no words to describe correctly the epicness of their music. Long live to Wintersun!!
I'm a long-time Wintersun and metal fan and my opinion about this song is that it's one of the best well-written and cohesive "epics" in the history of Metal. Those 14 minutes are fluid, epic, huge, and the energy buildup with the last 2 choruses are perfect. Metal bands try a lot to release over 9minute tracks with and epic feel, but that one really became a reference for this concept. It's not the same anymore, you know... trying to make an epic metal song and compete with that, GOOD LUCK
Yay, finally! :) Wintersun is pure awesomeness. For me this song is (in a way) about my homeland. Both Wintersun and Nightwish (that drummer-wizard is Mr. Kai Hahto, who plays in Nightwish as well) comes from Finland. The winter here is long and dark, full of snow and starry skies. You should react to another great metal band - Amorphis. Most of their songs is based on Kalevala, Finnish national epic. And also another suggestion : Devin Townsend. He's genius! Love your channel dude bruhhhh! Makes me smile every single time :)
So glad you finally did this one. The drummer is also the drummer for Nightwish. Wintersun is incredible - one of my favorite bands. Put on such a damn good live show, too. Hi Alex! I really enjoyed watching one of my favorite bands on your channel and I'm glad You liked it too. Keep playing Finnish metal and you have a new fan! Greez from Hellsinki Finland.
Maybe it was good that you waited on this one for a while. You have to have some perspective on a range of metal to know what you're getting with Wintersun. I honestly don't know how many times I've watched the Sonic Pump videos, but every time, I'm blown away yet again. I had the great honor of seeing them live earlier in the month, and believe me, they're this good, every note, the whole show. None of us wanted to leave when the concert was over. We just stood there, awestruck and with melted faces, while the band handed essentially everything they could find to us. Set lists, picks, drum sticks, bottles of water. I would say that, when you find yourself in a bit of a rut, review another one of the Sonic Pump cuts. "Time" or "Land of Snow and Sorrow." They'll get you up and moving around the room.
saw them in october at the toronto show, wasn't a big venue, about 200-300 people were there, exactly the same experience, left home feeling better than i've ever felt in my life. my friend who came along to see NeObliviscaris ended up becoming a huge fan of Wintersun. We managed to catch both bands and Sarah Longfield behind the venue, chatted, took pictures, got stuff signed...etc. with all of them, was definitely an amazing experience as well.
Intra Venus, And plague flowers the kaleidoscope, Curator or almost anything from them would be great. My personal favourite "Devour me colossus" but there's no video to it and it's like 12 min

Today was the first time I listened to Wintersun. Loved it !!! You should, definitely, try Opeth - Ghost of Perdition. Cheers from São Paulo/Brazil
Alex finally man, I waited for this for months bro... Glad you liked it. You should try Time and Land of Snow and Sorrow both of which are recorded as a live rehearsal too. Also keep in mind, the singer called Jari, has half a lung missing due to a tuberculosis surgery and still manages to pull these vocals. I can't even fathom what he'd sound like if not for the injury 😂 Keep the horns up homie 🤘🖤
Fun fact, that drummer that you loved is Kai Hahto who is currently playing in Nightwish! It's set you are a fan of epic stuff! You need more Nightwish, Ne Obliviscaris, Epica, Kamelot, Blind Guardian, Avantasia, Unleash the Archers and even maybe some Dimmu Borgir!
To this day, this is still the best way to express Finnish metal music to someone that doesn't usually listen to harder music. It is about dedication, melancholy, friendship, hard times and even some bits of patriotism. Yes, the song is fiction and fantasy, but the nouances and melody is what, at least I as a Finn, feel like. It's almost impossible to explain to someone, who hasn't lived at least one Finnish summer at a cottage and at least one winter under the Aurora borealis whilst skiing or just enjoying the moment with a bit of vodka-related drinks. This song is exactly how it feels.
He's definitely ready to dip into the weird universe of prog. I'd say The Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing or Ka$cade would be solid introductions!
@@chiralsymmetry6997 If we're talking about general prog stuff. I'd say one of the better introductions would be Polyphia. They let other music genres inspire them and the album the most hated has quite a few inspirations from hip hop and rap. But i definitely wanna see Animals as Leaders :D

Lost in Vegas have lost my interest some time ago now, I used to love them but recent videos are just not as good as the early ones.
"Amorphis - Death of a King" Please!
Yes please! Under the Red Cloud or Bad Blood (same album) would be good too!
@@christophersmith588 yeah \m/ bad blood would be a great song to start with
ALEX PLEASE DO POWERWOLF!! it's been a few months now man :)
i'm so early it's still 240p lmaoo
Yes. Plus their latest album is fire.

Nightwish -The greatest show on earth (Live @ Tempere)
It has started, he did his first really long song, its only a matter of time now.. muahahahaha!
Duuude the greatest show on earth is f ing gold
YES YES YES!!!!! FINALLY!!! DUDE YOU MUST DO MORE WINTERSUN!!!! btw loved this reaction
Eluveite - Inis mona PLEASE! Its Celtic style metal.,. unique sound realy
YES!
I second Inis Mona or at least something off the Slania album. That whole album is good shit!
I'd recommend some of the heavier songs by them, not those slow, pop music sounding mass compatible ones.
Quoth the Raven
Primordial breath
Finally, the drummer is the same one from Nightwish.
Also, all the song, guitars, bass, back orchestra, drums, are composed by the vocalist Jari Mäenpää.
Now is time for you to react to Wintersun - TIME
Wintersun - Death and the Healing
yes!!!!! omg finally!!!!!
Hahaha so many are falling outta chairs with excitment
I was having my coffee then choked, worth it
Teemu, the Guitar Player who is not the main vocalist is one of the technical finest guitarist in Europe. Maybe on our world.
His skill level is over9000, he really plays the Wintersun stuff pretty chilled
Dude, you should totally try more Wintersun. "Beyond the Dark Sun", "Time", "Battle Against Time", "Land of Snow and Sorrow"... Any of them! They are just a blast. You won't regret, buddy! Good journey.
'Land of Snow and Sorrow' remastered is 10 times over the top.
Someone teach me the ways of Finland please.
Winter Madness solo will totally explose his mind (based on his reaction on every solo he hears)
Starchild was Always my favorite the story telling jari does is hauntingly beautiful
Battle against time is such a gateway drug to Wintersun.
It is not ordinaly metal? Welcome to Finland we have amazing metal bands
Miikka Leppänen yes y’all do.
Finland has the BEST metal bands.
Finland and mostly Sweden.
@@summonliiva5673 Finland, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Poland, France... Even the US has some really solid stuff now. It's an amazing era for metal.
Finland has the best metal in the world. No doubt! Cheers from Sweden
INSOMNIUM - While We Sleep
thats kinda contradictic...
Trying not to brag but us Finns can create preetty decent metal music :)
Insomnium-Winters gate
@@arttuuusisalo8709 you finns have The BEST metal bands out there. I just can't stop loving Wintersun, Children Of Bodom, Amorphis, Kalmah, Ensiferum, Insomnium, and a long etc.
@ thankyou and you're welcome i guess :D
Wintersun-Sons of ........
Oh shit he fucking did it!!!!
😆
Me from Norway: You cannot play better melodic metal than Dimmu Borgir!
Finland: Hold my Lapin kulta!
Isn't this still just one of the best metal songs ever, Alex? I watched this with you one year ago. How about doing a rewatch of this amazing song in 2020?
Ice Nine Kills- The American Nightmare (extended video)!!!
Yes plz
Wintersun is one of the best metal bands ever, they are amazing, there are no words to describe correctly the epicness of their music.
Long live to Wintersun!!
*Killswitch engage - The end of heartache (live)*
Fuck yeah!
Wintersun is one of the most epic bands ever! listening to them every day! especially THIS SONG! i just love it. Cheers from a swiss Metalhead :)
Just saw them in Massachusetts a couple weeks ago.
Speaking of awesome bands, you should react to Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope (the live in Colorado 2016 video).
Holy shit yes, NeO needs to happen.
DARK TRANQUILLITY - LOST TO APATHY
The latest Omnium Gatherum album sounds really good! Keep requesting DT!
@@mickej84 Dude, I love their new album. I listen to it from The burning to Cold with out skipping 1 damn song. It's pretty much perfect. Amazing live band too. Jukka and Markus are beasts.
@@mickej84 But yeah, I could request like 50 DT songs haha. So many GREAT songs come to mind.
@@christophersmith588 I also listened to a finish band called Mors principium est for the first time today. Also amazing! Reminds me of DT but more symphonic.
@@mickej84O yeah, they are super talented. Their newest album is pretty damn good too. I agree, they sounded kind of like a cross between DT and Kalmah or COB.
What The F**K
First time Hearing them.. just downloaded all there music gonna binge listen now :D
Thank you
You are lucky
So, 1 year has past. What you think about them?
@@jyrikeranen2962 I Love them, they have become one of my Favorite Bands 🤘🏼
Wow. I was waiting for this album for so long that I'd forgotten about it until now.
Worth the wait.
*Opeth - Ghost of Perdition* (Live at The Roundhouse Tapes optionally)
Dimmu Borgir - Council of Wolves and Snakes
Or Gateways live from forces of the northern night
Gateways live is also incredible
I agree Gateways live would be a great choice too.
Cool that you react to this song! Ive seen the guy that been asking for this in the comment section for months now. Not my type of song, but awsome reaction anyway and its nice that you listen to your fans. Maybe my dream can come thru then aswell, been wanting to see a reaction on ERRA - Dementia for months now bro and its about time soon! Keep up the good work, awsome channel bro!
Erra is one of my top 3 bands, honestly every song they did is good. It's hard to pick one that's not a tune, especially on Augment and Impulse.
@@ScreecerRuLeZ glad to hear this man, even thou ERRA is big in its genre they feel kinda underrated in some wierd way. Augment is a Metal masterpiece and imo Dementia is one of the best metal songs ive ever heard.
@@pasha1877 I agree, they feel like they should be more popular. Dementia , The Hypnotist and Render The Void is the holy trinity of Erra.
Hell yeah! They are so underrated!
Hi Alex! I really enjoyed watching one of my favorite bands on your channel and I'm glad You liked it too. Keep playing Finnish metal and you have a new fan! Greez from Hellsinki Finland.
AWESOME reaction! Please do more Wintersun!
Patrick Tracy I also saw them last month and I wish I had a time machine.
saw them in october at the toronto show, wasn't a big venue, about 200-300 people were there, exactly the same experience, left home feeling better than i've ever felt in my life. my friend who came along to see NeObliviscaris ended up becoming a huge fan of Wintersun. We managed to catch both bands and Sarah Longfield behind the venue, chatted, took pictures, got stuff signed...etc. with all of them, was definitely an amazing experience as well.
Ne Obliviscaris - Intra Venus 🤘
Don't give up! This reaction will come soon or later.
@@facundogotmand8368 I'm tryin 😩😂
SOON
Intra Venus, And plague flowers the kaleidoscope, Curator or almost anything from them would be great. My personal favourite "Devour me colossus" but there's no video to it and it's like 12 min
Has to be As Icicles Fall for me
This song is a masterpiece!!! It means a lot for me, the chord progression and the talent of the guys inspire me to play everyday the guitar and learn myself new cool ideas. Have seen them now 1 time and gonna see them this saturday for the second time. it gonna be fk awesome and Alex if you want a another masterpiece from wintersun but a darker one, listen to "Eternal Darkness'' from the forest seasons, its something special but a fk hard awesome song with a solo, man.... pure awesomeness!!
MORE WINTERSUN!
By the way the drummer is Kai Hahto, same drummer for Nightwish but you probably already know that being that this video is two years ago.
Yes my friend, we do have some good metal here in Finland. Like these guys, Nightwish and many others. Fun piece of trivia; that drummer you so liked, plays in Nightwish now. Have a dope ass day...
Now epica-consign to oblivion (live at zenith) pls pls
You gotta do Blind Guardian now. Bards song and Valhalla Live at Wacken 2016
This. So much this.
Let's not forget Equilibrium! Anything from the sagas album
Or the imagination through the looking Glass version
about time you reacted to wintersun :)
about TIME.
Yes TIME
How can someone dislike this? Check your Ears please. This is Perfect Songwriting!!!!!!!!!
Where’s that one guy with the death logo he always asks this lmao
#finddeathlogoguy
I think everybody's been asking for this(including me)
I'm searching him too
What's up dude. Just search my comment. It will be hard it has 2 likes.
Love Metal ayeee there you are I’ve seen you on every video since like June always liked your comment just wondering what song you are going to request now lmao
Holy fuck!!! He finally did it! I have been requesting this on every video for months haha. I knew you'd love these guys.
Haha, me too. Worth it though.
Sabaton - Primo Victoria
YES!
Alex you will slap yourself again for missing on this one :D
FINALLY!!! I FUCKING RECOMMENDED THIS FOR LIKE HALF A YEAR!!!
Thanks for this channel, dude. Never though I would enjoy watching someone listening to music.
Came across your channel last month and can't stop watching it and other reaction channels.
It's so awesome to see you discovering metal, enjoying and understanding it.
I've been a metalhead since I was 14 (I'm 37 now) and I'm discovering many new bands (at least new for me) with reaction videos. AND revisiting songs or bands I haven't listened for years.
DARK TRANQUILLITY - PUNISH MY HEAVEN
YES
Your reaction reminds of the first time I heard this song.
It has been one of my all time favorite songs ever since.
Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down
If you want to hear vocalists from Nightwish and Epica and many more :)
OH CMON some1 knows ayreon?
Ayreon and Star One would be great!
Amon Amarth pls
Next Animals As Leaders!!🤘🏻
CAFO will blow his mind :D
He's definitely ready to dip into the weird universe of prog. I'd say The Price of Everything and the Value of Nothing or Ka$cade would be solid introductions!
@@chiralsymmetry6997 If we're talking about general prog stuff. I'd say one of the better introductions would be Polyphia. They let other music genres inspire them and the album the most hated has quite a few inspirations from hip hop and rap.
But i definitely wanna see Animals as Leaders :D
Yeah! Intervals or CHON would be cool too.
I've never clicked on a video faster! Love Wintersun, your reaction was awesome!
I was one of those people who recommended this song! Glad to see your reaction!!!
That is...no words, none just whoa
Paradise Lost - Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us
Yes! 1000 times YES!
Sabaton- to hell and back
Hammerfall - hearts on fire
Imagine how epic it was listening this walking home alone at night, stars visible up in the sky, lots of snow on trees..
Great reaction man! This is such a fucking amazing song/video, i hope many who had never seen it before saw it through you! Wintersun - Time from the same live studio session would be awesome to see!! Keep it up!
Nice to see you collecting your jaw from the floor
Kind of par for the course when it comes to Wintersun.
React to Carcass Heartwork
Winterson are an amazing band, sometimes overlooked. This is defo 1 of their absolute classic. Great reaction, keep it real bro
🤘🤘
Overlooked as hell they are, my friend. I think they need to be more active though. I understand that Jari is a perfectionist but they should release an album more than once every 4 years atleast.. Still, as a fan, I can't wait for Time II.
The drummer is Kai Hahto. He is a finnish metal legend. He has played in multiple famous bands. He is known from i.e Rotten Sound, Enochian Crescent and swallow the sun. He also played drums for the 2015 Nightwish album, but is more known from more extreme metal and blast beats. Absolute machine.
Yessss!!!! Been waiting for this for so long!! Please don't disappoint me bro!!!
Wintersun - Forest Seasons (Wintersun's take on the four season's (Vivaldi style) really captures the nordic seasons
