Funny you should post this today. I was actually thinking about this today. I think the need for heaviness correlates to coarseness in size and surface texture. For those that want optimal definition, we have to smooth that cuticle down and encapsulate it with something type of fixative to hold that smoothness. I don’t think it’s product alone but technique as well. For the longest time i thought my hair was fine and thought lighter weight products were the way to go. Never worked. But heavier products did work. I didn’t understand why but turned out my strands are actually coarse. I have different surface textures in my hair. My sides are smoother and silkier. They look good with just about every product combination. The back of my hair on the other hand, needs more ammo. But again we can’t ignore technique. Smoothing with some degree of tension is required irrespective of the products.
@@harmonious.balance Well put! That smoothing of a course strand or cuticle is so important! Not completely sure what allows some products to more smoothly go across my strands/cuticles but I know and like the feeling of being able to smooth and clump or smooth and define in curl clumps with ease. Shampoos, conditioners, and stylers all play a role in helping the cuticle to be able to get water in and help smooth the hydrated strand down.
@@harmonious.balance Very well said. Finally embracing the idea of hand raking product into hair in SMALL sections gave me the results I’ve been seeking for years.
Before BGC, I was using very heavy oils and butter-rich products which combined with washing my hair 1x every 2 weeks left it very dehydrated. After following BGC for 2 years and switching to botanical, humectant products and washing 1x/week, my hair definitely became more hydrated. However, I just started doing the Anthony Dickey method (while still using my botanical/humectant products) and omg...my hair has transformed in just 2 weeks!! For the 1st time in my life, my hair is so soft, flexible and hydrated in a way that I was not able to achieve with the BGC method. I am SO happy and excited to have finally found what my hair loves!
This video solidifies my decision to use what grows in nature for my hair instead of what manufactures produce. I’m not limited to what’s available. I don’t have to worry about a manufacturer changing or canceling their product. Everything I put on my hair my hair absorbs
Your hair is flawless and looking very healthy. Love the dress. We deal with a lot if the same issues. I have Lupus though. But I have been getting allergy injections for over 15 years due to my asthma, scent sensitivity, can't use laundry detergent, certain perfumes, lotions or shampoos. I have eczema. My allergist always tell me test something behind my ear or inside of my wrist and see if I have a reaction. Some manufacturers are still so dishonest and don't list ingredients. But so happy you have a routine that works.
@@angelaamare9290 you’re too kind! I’m sorry you are having similar issues and I haven’t found a routine that works just yet. I discuss this in this video ua-cam.com/video/sA5oDbeUHd4/v-deo.htmlsi=imWkRrprmsT95UU0.
Your hair!!!! Love it and thanks for being consistent in your hair ideologies and nuances. I have always appreciated your intuitiveness, sensitivity and insight in dealing with textured hair. 😍
Firstly, your gorgeous hair just told me to go and get a trim 😍 I have fine (but dense?) type 4 hair. A lot of gels make my hair look stringy and stiff, but mousse doesn't have enough hold. I can't do heavy products, but I need long lasting, flexible hold *sigh*
I’ve been going through such a crisis with my hair, the thought of shaving it off pops in my head all the time… There are so many products out there, I don’t know what to use 😭
What’s going on with your hair? Starting from scratch can be very informative, but if you’d rather not go that route, I would suggest trying out products from a retailer with a good return/refund policy or one that offers samples. Ulta, Walmart, Target, Sephora, and Amazon all come to mind.
Hi Dr. Flo; I have a question! Do you stretch your hair when you do your wash n go? If so what do you do or use? I feel like you and I are “hair twins”
So when are you starting a product line? 😋 I’m good on the shampoo and conditioner front, but I could really use leave-in and styler that my hair can “snack on,” as you put it, to stay moisturized.
Have you considered reaching out to Jane Carter? She's in the midst of reformulating and bringing new products to the market, and perhaps she could help you with a fragrance-free product that works for you!
