Knowing Your Hair Type: Andre Walker System and More
I’ve just done my 2nd wash and go using a conditioner only, I used Kinky Curly detangling leave in conditioner. My set lasted 4 days, it wasn’t real defined, had some frizz but I only have about half as much hair as you.
I hear you. I have very sensitive skin generally, but my scalp even moreso. I’ve had such a hard time trying to figure out what causes my scalp to react. I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of money trying every single product available in hopes of finding a routine I can rely on that won’t leave my scalp bumpy and itchy. I don’t know if I have any fragrance allergies, but I think my sense of smell is sensitive and I do not like strong fragrances in my self care products. All the fragrance free products I’ve tried for my hair were also lacking. Unfortunately my guess is that from a business angle brands try to formulate a fragrance free option that is for “all hair types”, which means absolutely not for everyone. I can remember saying to myself, out loud, multiple times, that the fragrance free leave-in and styling products I’ve used that are fragrance free must have been forumlated for people that don’t need product but just enjoy using them anyway! Haha.
@@CMch22 I’m so sorry to hear you are having a similar experience. I get the scalp irritation and scalp bumps as well. Hopefully I will have some solutions to share soon! Stay tuned!
I resonate with this a lot. My hair/scalp has slowly deteriorated and i'm still trying to figure out the root causes. Speaking good health and sustainable products over us both
Beautiful!
Thank you!
It's the volume & body for me regardless of product🤗🤗🤗🤗
Incredibly relatable video!
So pretty once you got it all refreshed
@@JaydedCammie thanks!
If you’re curious to know well what products are safer for me, they are typically products that have little to no ingredients that are listed here www.vanicream.com/about/chemical-irritants To simplify things the more fragrance, plant extracts, and/or essential oils you add to products the higher the risk for someone having allergies and irritation in terms of consumers.
Hey Fo! Sorry you have to go through this, but I know you will find something that sticks. I don't know all that you are sensitive to so you would have to look at the ingredients to see if these work, but some brands that you might want to try, if you haven't already, are: TreLuxe - they have a scent free leave-in now, LUS Brand - they have a scent free 3 step system for coily hair, and I just saw a brand that I have never heard of called SEEN. They have scent free products that are save for sensitive skin, so you might look into them. I hope these suggestions help, but again, I know that I don't know half of what it is that you look for in products so I'm shooting in the dark. If I hear of anything new, I'll let you know. Thanks for the transparency because there are others out there just like you who need videos like this to know they are not alone. Hopefully you all will find each other and form a community that will help find/develop products that will fill this much needed void. Stay Hopeful💙
@@NaturalRaeRae you’re too kind! I deeply appreciate this comment and yes I really hope people develop more options.
I love it! The realness ❤
Inahsi has soooo good fragrance free and essential oil free curly girl products! With moisture and slip - recommend 100% 😍
@@--RBuo84 thanks for the recommendation 🥰 I liked the spray leave in! The fragrance free gels and deep conditioner not so much. Also some of their fragrance free items contain horsetail and nettle which trigger a reaction for me.
Your hair is flawless and looking very healthy. Love the dress. We deal with a lot if the same issues. I have Lupus though. But I have been getting allergy injections for over 15 years due to my asthma, scent sensitivity, can't use laundry detergent, certain perfumes, lotions or shampoos. I have eczema. My allergist always tell me test something behind my ear or inside of my wrist and see if I have a reaction. Some manufacturers are still so dishonest and don't list ingredients. But so happy you have a routine that works.
@@angelaamare9290 you’re too kind! I’m sorry you are having similar issues and I haven’t found a routine that works just yet. I discuss this in this video ua-cam.com/video/sA5oDbeUHd4/v-deo.htmlsi=imWkRrprmsT95UU0.
It's definitely trial and error on finding the perfect combination for such issues. Hopefully a hair brand hears and take note.
Luvin your hair 🥰💙
Dr. Fo, thank you for your openness and transparency about what's going on with your hair. Although I know it's a tough time for you (again), I admire your tenacity to keep going and your discipline to maintain some kind of routine and consistency even in this difficult time. I'm rooting for you to find stability soon that will have a lasting effect. 🙏 I do have one question, what leave-in did you have in your hair in the video? I know you said that you just picked up the Cleure to try, but what did you use before for a leave-in?
Thanks for all your kind words. Why do you ask? For what I had in my hair initially I don’t care for the brand so I won’t be sharing them online. If you need fragrance free options please check the link in the description box ❤
@@FoAdunni Hi Dr. Fo, I just asked because I know that you recently reviewed the recover, restore, gro, product line. You mentioned in that video that you liked the leave-in, so I was just curious because I was going to try it. I don't have a particular issue with fragrance, but I highly respect your opinion and I appreciate your rationale and the way you explain things. I also believe that I have a similar hair type to yours. I've found that your thoughts and suggestions have been spot on for me, scent sensitivity or no. I consider you one of the best! 🙏
@@missbridgetbutler this was an awesome comment to read! For a very light leave or refresher to go underneath something else I recommend the Recover Restore Gro treatment and as a stand alone leave in, since you don’t have issues with fragrance I would probably do the TGIN leave in from the original line (unless they’ve changed the formula, I haven’t used it in years). I can create a whole series about some of the best of the best products and let you know when I start ❤️.
@@FoAdunni That would be great! Thank you. I look forward to the series.
This video solidifies my decision to use what grows in nature for my hair instead of what manufactures produce. I’m not limited to what’s available. I don’t have to worry about a manufacturer changing or canceling their product. Everything I put on my hair my hair absorbs
Weldone FO.. Do you have other social handles? Do you use tiktok and the likes?
Thank you Dr. Fo for the follow-up product video because your hair was poppin"! 😍Do you have any suggestions for what you would do to modify the recipe to enhance moisture retention? Use a leave-in with more emollients perhaps? Both of the products you used seem to contain humectants.
@@missbridgetbutler Hi! If the products don’t have enough hold without a leave in more emollients even from a light leave in will reduce the hold to nearly nothing. I’ve tried it in the past. I initially used to be nervous about using this foam on my hair first so I used to use a spray leave in first, now I just use things with caution.
@@FoAdunni Thank you!
I really like the spirit of reaching/giving back that shines within you. One can tell that you like to see others shine also and that it comes from the heart. Blessings to you and your loved ones.

What do u wash with?
@@sheshe30341 currently ps it’s natural unscented shampoo and Cleure fragrance free conditioner. If you don’t have allergies any good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner should work! ❤️
I absolutely love how your channel has flourished & views have expanded. This was GREAT encouragement!❤
Yaaaay! I’m happy it’s encouragement.
Have you tried Qhemet Biologics? Their products are very lightly perfumed (if at all) and their products are for 3-4 hair types. They have a chart on their website with the hair types and which products go with them.
Before BGC, I was using very heavy oils and butter-rich products which combined with washing my hair 1x every 2 weeks left it very dehydrated. After following BGC for 2 years and switching to botanical, humectant products and washing 1x/week, my hair definitely became more hydrated. However, I just started doing the Anthony Dickey method (while still using my botanical/humectant products) and omg...my hair has transformed in just 2 weeks!! For the 1st time in my life, my hair is so soft, flexible and hydrated in a way that I was not able to achieve with the BGC method. I am SO happy and excited to have finally found what my hair loves!
Your hair is beautiful.

Hello everyone! This video is from March. I’ve since greatly reduced my detangling time and improved my scalp health. I will hopefully post updates soon. Thanks for watching!
Great video! I wanted to share a tip that’s worked for me when it comes to tangling/detangling. Before I even put a tool to my head, I release the tangles with my hands under the water in sections. For example, if I my hair is in for sections, I will take one section under the water and use the water to help release any tangles I feel going strand by strand. I do this during my shampoo step. Basically, you trying to get your hair to go in one direction instead of being scrunched up on your scalp. Every time I rinse out my shampoo, I use the water to help stretch the hair and release the tangles. By the time I get to the conditioning step, my hair is no longer tangled, and the detangling tool is just used to remove any shed hair I missed. I wash my hair in two sections, and detangle (with a brush) in 4-6 and clip away any sections I’m not working. I prefer this method to twisting my hair. This has cut down detangling tremendously. Hope this helps!
@@splendidBeauty Hey! Thanks for sharing! This vid is from March. I’ve since figured out some better detangling techniques and hopefully will upload a video soon sharing them. Please stay tuned ❤️
@@FoAdunniyou’re welcome! Glad you were able to find something that works for you.❤

Your hair!!!! Love it and thanks for being consistent in your hair ideologies and nuances. I have always appreciated your intuitiveness, sensitivity and insight in dealing with textured hair. 😍

@@user-yc6rs2bm8u Thanks! Those products didn’t work for me. Hopefully they are working for others!
Your hair is absolutely beautiful
@@haroldmorris7443 Thanks! 😊
When you say you’re going to explore brands for textured hair, do you mean that you’re going see if they already make hypoallergenic products, or that you’re potentially going to ask them to create hypoallergenic versions of their fragranced products? I’ve considered reaching out to the makers of my holy grails to ask them to make hypoallergenic versions, but I’m holding off until I can find a doctor who’s actually interested helping me pinpoint the cause of my symptoms. Sometimes my wash day sets my head on fire with no visible symptoms, but sometimes it doesn’t. If fragrance turns out to me the culprit, I’m definitely petitioning for fragrance free versions of Giovanni’s 50/50 Balance conditioner and Kinky Tresses’s Coconut Mango hair butter because they WORK work. Sadly, I can’t see Giovanni obliging, but smaller, more recently established businesses, like Kinky Tresses, might. Keep hope alive! I know the struggle is real 😭🤎
@@schoolwerk3744 I’ve done both. I’ve messaged some people a few times but there are also some smaller brands with unscented options that I’m looking into.
Your hair looks beautiful, Dr. Fo
How do you dry a wash and go?
@@farabalogun6454 hey cousin! You can voice note me on insta if you have questions or text me. Whichever.
So when are you starting a product line? 😋 I’m good on the shampoo and conditioner front, but I could really use leave-in and styler that my hair can “snack on,” as you put it, to stay moisturized.
@@schoolwerk3744 Someday but for now I hope my vids and other great UA-cam content is helping you find what you need?
Have you considered reaching out to Jane Carter? She's in the midst of reformulating and bringing new products to the market, and perhaps she could help you with a fragrance-free product that works for you!
@@esthertjones Hey! Does she have an official avenue for me to reach out?
@@FoAdunni I'm not sure, but if you hop on over to Ladosha wright's channel, they've been doing livestream interviews recently, and if you contact ms ladosha or cheryl morrow they should be able to put you in touch!

@@asg4669 Thanks a bunch!
I’ve been going through such a crisis with my hair, the thought of shaving it off pops in my head all the time… There are so many products out there, I don’t know what to use 😭
Perhaps pick one product line and stick to it for a while. Design Essentials has some good items.
What’s going on with your hair? Starting from scratch can be very informative, but if you’d rather not go that route, I would suggest trying out products from a retailer with a good return/refund policy or one that offers samples. Ulta, Walmart, Target, Sephora, and Amazon all come to mind.
Hi Dr. Flo; I have a question! Do you stretch your hair when you do your wash n go? If so what do you do or use? I feel like you and I are “hair twins”
@@ODY0319 hey! I don’t stretch my hair typically. ❤️
@@FoAdunni okay. thank you! When you did stretch your hair what did you do?
Firstly, your gorgeous hair just told me to go and get a trim 😍 I have fine (but dense?) type 4 hair. A lot of gels make my hair look stringy and stiff, but mousse doesn't have enough hold. I can't do heavy products, but I need long lasting, flexible hold *sigh*
