none of this surprises me, the studies don't surprise me as their was a study that showed with several groups of people both in the same calorie restrictions.
One group was on high protein, the other was on low protein, and they discovered that high protein was directly linked to increased growth hormone and it has been long known that increased growth hormone is an overall decrease in life span as growth hormone increases the amount your cells replicate and our cells can only replicate a finite amount of times.
So when these guys are talking about increased life span from eating a bunch of carbs instead of more protein, well yeah, no surprise at all.

I have several issues with this. I eat only clean whole foods and always have. I don't eat at restaurants and prepare all my own food. Yet I was still able to become overweight. So the thought that eating only whole healthy foods will fix the problem is absurd to me. There has to be a deficit to lose weight no matter what you're eating. At least for me. Also he said a balanced diet creates more satiaty and I find this also untrue. Carbs create hunger and cravings at least in my body.

Went for an angiogram and stayed for an emergency bypass. Had no issues until a diminished capacity in her 90's was corrected with a valve replacement. She just turned 100. BUT, last year my brother, at 70, had a fatal heart attack just a few months after finding out he had some blood pressure and calcification issues. Very similar diets and fitness. Let us say, for argument's sake, that caloric restriction does extend life. You have to ask yourself by how much does it extend lifespan? Is the enfeeblement of the body, as a result of this caloric restriction, worth the handful of extra years of life where you are increasingly dependent on others and where you are less mobile? When looked at from a quality of life perspective, where you value independence, the answer for most people is that life extension is not worth the diminishing quality of life. I would rather live 75 years where I am fully independent and mobile, and then just drop dead, verses living 80 years, where the last 15 years of my life I have a hard time carrying my own groceries.

I am not against activity, I am super active, but you don't need to be very active to be healthy and get a lot of aesthetic and functional results, every time you are in doubt, don't increase activity, decrease food intake

Ironically, when Saladino was having his health problems on the carnivore diet, he was trying to be continuously in ketosis. Many others have pointed out, for all the intense exercise he was doing, he was extremely undereating protein and fat. He was avoiding large boluses of protein for fear of getting knocked out of ketosis.
His hormones and electrolytes were probably out of whack. So, he returned to his sugar addiction to resolve his issues. But likely all he needed to do was to increase his meat intake. A large bolus of protein would give him the insulin bump he claimed to have needed to get from fruit and honey. Or else maybe his problem was copper and vitamin toxicity from excess liver intake.
It probably was a combination of factors. Obviously, considering Saladino's rapid premature aging, he didn't resolve his health problems, if the symptoms shifted from before. Other carnivore advocates have maintained their health for decades. They weren't trying to do keto nor were they downing massive loads of organ meats. Maybe Saladino should've tried to learn from those who had been doing carnivore longer and more successfully.

Here are the key takeaways from Dr. Paul Saladino's discussion on longevity, caloric restriction, and protein intake:
    1. **Skepticism About Longevity Claims**: Saladino is critical of the longevity community, particularly questioning the credibility and practical effectiveness of experts who advocate caloric restriction and anti-meat stances but rely heavily on supplements and cosmetic procedures.
    2. **Debating Caloric Restriction**: He challenges the universal benefit of caloric restriction for longevity. Saladino points out that studies showing benefits often involve poor-quality diets. When animals are fed a diet appropriate for their species, caloric restriction does not extend lifespan and may even be harmful.
    3. **Importance of Diet Quality**: Saladino emphasizes that the quality of the diet is crucial. He argues that reducing calories in a nutrient-rich diet can lead to negative outcomes like hormonal imbalances, which can impact overall health and longevity.
    4. **Holistic View of Longevity**: Longevity should encompass more than just surviving longer; it should include quality of life factors such as mental health, sexual function, and the ability to recover from physical activities or injuries.
    5. **Critique of Mainstream Dietary Advice**: He criticizes mainstream dietary advice that suggests lowering metabolic rates through caloric restriction. Instead, he advocates for maintaining a higher metabolic rate for better health outcomes.
    6. **Impact of Nutrient Quality on Hormonal and Metabolic Health**: Saladino discusses how the type of calories consumed can influence hormonal responses and metabolism, highlighting the negative effects of poor-quality fats on hormones like testosterone.

11:50 for me high carb for 45 years caused PCOS / fibroids and a lot of acne, so I had to switch to low carb, PCOS / fibroids and acne disappeared, but yeah now my electrolytes are out of whack and I can't find a way to fix the water retention on my face, after eating a piece of pecorino romano loaded with sodium, I have a moon face :(
in Dr. Donald Layman own words: "Most people don't recognise that we talk about a RDA for protein, but there's a RDA for carbohydrates and that’s 130 g per day. The average American's eating 300 so three times the RDA so why are we obese? Well we’re eating eating 800 g of carbohydrates more than we can metabolise, that's why! Where did those numbers come from? We have what we call an obligatory carbohydrate glucose need and that’s for the brain and the red blood cells and the kidney and that’s estimated at around 80 g per day and they put a little bit of a safety factor and that’s where the 130 comes from so you have a minimum of around 100 g per day of carbs that you probably need to eat, people will say you can make it from protein, but I think that’s pretty inefficient way of getting carbs, but anyway, lets start with 100, beyond that hundred every gram of carbohydrate you use you have to earn with physical activity and you earn it at about a rate of maybe 50 to 60 g/h so for the average American eating 300 g per day they have to have at least three hours of high intensity physical activity every day and we know that 75% of Americans are sedentary so they’re not getting it, hence obesity. How much per meal? I've done quite a lot of work looking at things from ?? (I didn't understand the names, but you can watch this interview on Dr. Stephanie Estima channel) and others who have done a lot of metabolic work on ?? we can use about 20 g of carbohydrate per hour in the body in a sedentary condition so that means we have a meal limit somewhere around 30 possibly 40 g of carbohydrate, three meals there’s 120 we have a meal limit about 40 beyond that we need a very high insulin response to get rid of it, so we’re not using it, so now we have to store it somewhere, people say well we store in glycogen, we only store in glycogen if you’ve used the glycogens, how do you use glycogen? While you're doing muscle activity. So if you’re sedentary the only other place you can do it, is force it in the body fat and when you do that now you start getting very weird metabolism, you're insulin insensitive, you start getting high triglyceride, your blood lipids are higher, you have higher free fatty acids, you get fatty liver. You get all of the negatives we associated with higher fat diets, but they’re actually driven by high carb diets."
