I heard that people that read Cells at Work: Code Black got so sad over the suffering of the cells they actually started changing their behaviors to have healthier bodies
I actually started to take care a bit more because of the original not-depressive Cells At Work, which made me love my cells a lot. Like, I am not taking fever medicine anymore if I get sick a bit, unless the fever is unbearably high. I feel so sad for my lost cells if I paper cut or knife cut my fingers tinily etc. Black, didn't make me take any extra caution because it showed me stuff that ı was already guessing that I was causing by smoking cigarette. It is like the words written on a cigarette pack, we already know them :S Sad, but true. It however made me bawl my eyes out on that one before the last episode.
My dad had his last cigarette April 18, 1998. Nearly 23 years later, even though my ma is STILL smoking, he still hasn't given in. I'm so proud of him.
My grandmother started smoking in august 1945 when Paris was liberated and the americans were so cool on their tanks smoking their cigarettes. She stopped in 2010, after 65 years. Hasn't touched tobacco since.

This isn’t really a season 2, it’s like a spin-off in a different person’s body. There is a season 2 which is just as wholesome and educational as the first (which is still just as amazing as season 1), but Code Black takes place in an older, much more unhealthy body and handles a lot more dark subject matter.
I am Japanese. We couldn't actually watch this anime in class, but our high school biology teacher recommended we watch it! So I watched it and studied it! It was very easy to understand.

Fun fact: "Code Black" in the title of the show is a reference to "black companies" - companies that subject workers to excessive overtime without pay and have a hostile work environment (power harassment etc.). Don't let your body become a black company people is the takeaway here.
Are you sure it doesnt just reference "code black" an actual code in hospitals where there are more patients/people needing treatment then there are supplies to treat them? Ie everything around them is so beyond sick they dont have enough to fix all of it
@@brief402 Quite sure. The color codes used in hospitals are not universal and the definition for code black you've provided is not used in Japan where the show was made. If you watch Cells at Work: Code Black you will also spot many themes and dialogue that hints at the body being run like a black company.
Well thats not a strike. Its a riot ir mutiny since the body is actively attacking itself. What happens in an anorexic body is more akin to a strike- low hormone production ,low stomach acid production, bad body temperature maintenance, slow heart rate, just slow everything because of lowered metabolism ,brainfog etc.
In the first series the Red blood cells would swap their jackets in and out to indicate them carrying oxygen. They would use a lighter red when they are oxygenated and then flip it so the dark red was more prominent when they aren't carrying oxygen. In this episode though it looks like the contrast between the two reds is smaller. Which I guess is indicating poor oxygen absorption?
@@jennbacab3128 there are a lot of cool little things in this series that represent functions of the body. And even some other random things that have a lot of thought put into them. Like the ID numbers they carry, they are actually hexadecimal values for colours. All the red blood cells have hex values that are different shades of red.
I am amazed that the anime team not only faithfully adapts the already excellent manga, but also manages to add a lot to it in a meaning full way. (Simple things like color, but also additional scenes)
Also, I think it was made by a different anime studio, one that is clearly overworked this season, for the artist is going to be ironic working in this series.

Fun fact: The Erys getting "red" is actually a physiological pun as well, as the hemoglobin actually takes a brighter red color if contaminated with carbon monoxide. That is also why such intoxicated people still look "normal" even after choking to death, because their skin is not blueish, but still "healthy red".
This anime is gonna make me stop vaping/smoking just because not only does it put into words the negative effects (which don't change the minds of most people, including me) but it also portrays the effects and the damage they cause (which has made me re-evaluate my choices and choose the option that benefits my body's health).
There are many different versions of Cells At Work in the Manga, but right now, there are 3 animated: 1.- Normal “Cells At Work” season 1 2.- Normal “Cells At Work” season 2 3.- Cells At Work - “Code-Black” 2 and 3 are being aired simultaneously.

And if bacteria are 100% immune to all antibiotics, we can just use bacteriophages, but if bacteria get resistant to those, then we can use antibiotics. We've just trapped bacteria... after pharmacies consider bacteriophage treatment safe.
No they don't work the same way. They also have a lot of issues (extremely narrow spectrum, could propagate unwanted genes etc.), which prevent them to be used as widely as antibiotics... Also, it takes time to diagnose a patient whether he has bacteria that have resistance or not, so it's still the best to keep the resistance low.

7:25 About the bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics, there’s new research involving the use of bacteriophages to treat bacterial infections. Bacteriophages are deadly creatures, but thankfully don’t harm healthy human cells at all, and goes straight for the bacteria. It’s also very unlikely for bacteria to ever develop a resistance towards bacteriophages because the phages evolve too. What is your take on this, and how far do you think we are from this practice?
i still want to see episodes on things like mosquito bites, i want to see the cellular breakdown of the proboscis entering the blood vessel, sucking up a bunch of hapless red blood cells, injecting the saliva, the histamine response, how that relates to inflammation and the itchy red bump...

I hope this show is still going. I always felt like the best way to explain to people what these illnesses, diseases, and even bad habits do to the body is literally something like what this anime is doing. It's not even an exaggeration, your body suffers! It works incredibly hard to make sure you stay alive and healthy, treat it better!

*public health professional has entered the chat* This is why doctors sound like broken records. The conditions of our society tells us how healthy people are going to be. If you are working multiple jobs, getting paid minimum wage, and are living paycheck to paycheck just to be broke. You are going to sacrifice your health to survive. Which sounds like a contradiction but it is the really for a lot of folk. And its super sad.
Doctor mike: can you imagine what your doing to your body and this is what's going on inside? Like eating unhealthy and- Me: *looks at the bag of gummy worms on my lap*...*proceeds to eat*
I can't stress this enough: DON'T SMOKE My dad started smoking when he was 14 or 15 (encouraged by my grandmother), he was extremely addicted to it his entire life and when he started having heart problems he really tried to stop, but it was almost impossible. He had short breath all the time, he was very anxious when he couldn't smoke so he started gaining a lot of weight which just made everything worse. He had a very bad pneumonia in 2014 and left the icu with epoch and in 2016 he had to be intubated for his 3rd neumonia and died from heart failure. His lungs were so deteriorated that btw the epoch, the dead tissue, the clogged bronchials, not even a respirator could oxigenate him fully. JUST DON'T SMOKE, you don't want to have your life end like that.
BTW, vaping may not be the 'healthy' alternative it was originally touted to be. There has been very little research done in this area, but there are researchers at UCSF and UCSD who have said the studies so far don't look good and it may be the case that they will ultimately show that vaping is as bad as smoking. There are some side effects, such as seizures and tertiary exposure to infants, that aren't concerns with smoking. I live in an apartment complex, and since my neighbors have started vaping I've gone from healthy lungs to having to spends hundreds of dollars a month in asthma medication ($393 last month).

Since you're pretty open to watching foreign language medical shows, I'd like to suggest Hospital Playlist. If you haven't seen any comments about it before, it's a super popular Korean drama on Netflix.

@@brief402 Quite sure. The color codes used in hospitals are not universal and the definition for code black you've provided is not used in Japan where the show was made. Honestly cells at work actually made me want to work on my body.
This anime really hit me in places
I want to watch the whole series with you explaining it 😅
In the first series the Red blood cells would swap their jackets in and out to indicate them carrying oxygen. They would use a lighter red when they are oxygenated and then flip it so the dark red was more prominent when they aren't carrying oxygen. In this episode though it looks like the contrast between the two reds is smaller. Which I guess is indicating poor oxygen absorption?
Never noticed this
@@jennbacab3128 there are a lot of cool little things in this series that represent functions of the body.

7:25 About the bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics, there’s new research involving the use of bacteriophages to treat bacterial infections. Bacteriophages are deadly creatures, but thankfully don’t harm healthy human cells at all, and goes straight for the bacteria. My dad started smoking when he was 14 or 15 (encouraged by my grandmother), he was extremely addicted to it his entire life and when he started having heart problems he really tried to stop, but it was almost impossible.

Same for my dad, except he died from an accident before the lung cancer could kill him.
