  • Cells At Work: Code Black was an awesome manga, and now they’ve finally made the anime! We talk about the depressing journey of a red blood cell, platelets, an irritable stomach, the dangers of smoking, bacteria, carbon monoxide poisoning, antibiotics, and those savage white blood cells! This was just the first episode of Code Black though, which one should I watch next?

I actually started to take care a bit more because of the original not-depressive Cells At Work, which made me love my cells a lot. Like, I am not taking fever medicine anymore if I get sick a bit, unless the fever is unbearably high. I feel so sad for my lost cells if I paper cut or knife cut my fingers tinily etc. Black, didn't make me take any extra caution because it showed me stuff that ı was already guessing that I was causing by smoking cigarette. It is like the words written on a cigarette pack, we already know them :S Sad, but true.
It however made me bawl my eyes out on that one before the last episode.

I mean, you could argue it's season 1.8.1 or 2.1 -ish. But yes, there is an actual Cells at Work Season 2 that Dr Mike needs to review as well on top of reviewing Cells at Work Black. Find out how the body works and seeing a representation of what we do to our bodies. It's pretty much an anime series doctors would like to prescribe.😆

This isn’t really a season 2, it’s like a spin-off in a different person’s body. In the first series the Red blood cells would swap their jackets in and out to indicate them carrying oxygen. In this episode though it looks like the contrast between the two reds is smaller. Which I guess is indicating poor oxygen absorption?

No they don't work the same way. They also have a lot of issues (extremely narrow spectrum, could propagate unwanted genes etc.), which prevent them to be used as widely as antibiotics... Also, it takes time to diagnose a patient whether he has bacteria that have resistance or not, so it's still the best to keep the resistance low.

    I can't stress this enough: DON'T SMOKE
My dad started smoking when he was 14 or 15 (encouraged by my grandmother), he was extremely addicted to it his entire life and when he started having heart problems he really tried to stop, but it was almost impossible. He had short breath all the time, he was very anxious when he couldn't smoke so he started gaining a lot of weight which just made everything worse. He had a very bad pneumonia in 2014 and left the icu with epoch and in 2016 he had to be intubated for his 3rd neumonia and died from heart failure. His lungs were so deteriorated that btw the epoch, the dead tissue, the clogged bronchials, not even a respirator could oxigenate him fully.
JUST DON'T SMOKE, you don't want to have your life end like that.

BTW, vaping may not be the 'healthy' alternative it was originally touted to be. There has been very little research done in this area, but there are researchers at UCSF and UCSD who have said the studies so far don't look good and it may be the case that they will ultimately show that vaping is as bad as smoking. There are some side effects, such as seizures and tertiary exposure to infants, that aren't concerns with smoking. I live in an apartment complex, and since my neighbors have started vaping I've gone from healthy lungs to having to spends hundreds of dollars a month in asthma medication ($393 last month).

This the first time I see a doctor watch an anime about medicine and explaining all sorts of mechanism of how body works , not only that he also explains it in very simple term which is very helpful for many lay people, and It very nice to see educational video like this, and a person who also works in medical field, I am so pleased
