    • @vileone13

Paradoxically other nations kinda do. There are tons of countries, both now and in the past that have been considered "illegitimate" and as such have been the target of bigger and more power hungry nations for conquest and exploitation, or supposed states that claim sovereignty but are denied it because it is within the bounds of a previously established nation. A very real example is the relationship between China and Taiwan nowadays. China (and it's allies) view Taiwan as a rogue state, and infringing on it's land, while Taiwan itself and various other powers (such as the U.S. and the U.K.) acknowledge it as it's own nation.
Nations after all are constructs, ideas more than actual real things. It's entirely based on majority consensus really, and we give them power by our belief in them and in the adherence in their laws. After all when people lose faith in a nation it is often when it collapses.
The bit about filibuster is weird though, not sure what is going on there.

People spend a lot of time talking about good and evil when discussing this SCP but that doesn't enter in to this. The Foundation can't undo what Taylor did before they got there but the fact is the Sarkic religion is dangerous and cannot be allowed to spread. This isn't just a religion with dangerous moral codes, this is a religion that grants real supernatural abilities and it only takes one bad actor to turn a sedentary group dangerous as demonstrated by the village elder's son. Obviously this article is written to draw a connection to the horrors of colonialism but to say that's simply what the Foundation is partaking in here is absurd. This is pure containment and entertaining anything other than burning the place off the map shows the Foundation is more moral than good sense should allow.

Maybe SCP-4036 still deserves Euclid rating, because of the strong possibility of a SK-lifted vail scenarios, but nevertheless, especially with the normalization treaty in mind, it doesn't consist of any possible that, other than aforementioned, that would mark it as deserving of Keter class. In conclusion, I believe that SCP-4036 should be reclassified as ether safe or Euclid, preferably safe due to my understanding of foundation beurocracy, however this should be put under review as I have had experience with memory problems.

They made the colonizer a sort perfect mix between sympathetic but also pure evil at the same time, as well as perfectly encapsulating his final shift into “I’ve dug myself a hole, the only thing left to do is keep digging”
In the beginning it’s clear through his note that he had good intentions, and was probably a good man overall, but the heinous mentality of 1800s colonial Europe corrupted him into something vile
He was a man who left the horrors of the south during the times of the breaking point in the United States right before/during the civil war. He despises slavery, and seemingly generally wants to make the lives better for the people, but he’s so locked into his notions of what’s right that he can’t even see that he, in many ways, is no different then the so called slavers of the south, the American that he despised, and the nations who hurt their own people that he viled at. This overall shifts into the narrative to turn him into something. The line that really stuck out to me was when he was justifying his notions that if they simply left the nation would starve, showing genuine care for the people, but ends it off with how he will never be able to civilize l them, hypocritically in one line referring to them as people no different then him while still referring to them all as nothing more than savages.

I think the issue that folks have with some of the newer ones it that they're more trying to tell a story then what the actual SCP is and how to contain it. This is one that strikes a good balance, where it describes what it is, why it's contained, how it lead to the way it is. Volgun himself has said he only makes videos on the SCPs that interest him, and imo I think he picks the best ones that could provide both a clinical-file sheet like some of the older styles, and telling an interesting story, as some of the newer ones do. There are some old ones that suck, and some new ones that suck. All just depends on the author and what submissions get through.

The colonization parallels are heartbreaking, knowing that actual people on our planet have gone through scenarios like this (sans plant babies) numerous times over. It’s so painful, and yet nowhere near as painful as being a native who experienced such trauma - such inhumane treatment. All in the name of the “greater good”, of providing “economy to the barbaric”. Rest in peace to the indigenous lost. You deserved so much more. You deserve so much better.

I was a history major in college, and there were a lot of primary source documents we had to read that sounded uncomfortably familiar to the logs of the main colonizer character in this story (Taylor?). All that "it *must* be done," and people hoping that "God forgive me/us" over and over, and yet they still kept doing the things anyway. Like, if they really felt so horrible about what they were doing, they would've just shut up and stopped doing the bad things 🤷‍♀ I almost stopped listening to this a few times because it just felt too true-to-life, I guess I was just hoping for some kind of different twist at the end or something.
