If you were worried that we weren’t interested in Safe-class SCPs, fret no more. This one was fascinating in its origins and implications, and it grabs my attention without even having to have grisly or apocalyptic elements. Keep ‘em coming!
I kinda prefer the small scale ones over the impossible-to-contain universe breakers which started overflowing the site.
I think my favorite safe SCP is that ring that actually let's you get sleep. Mainly because I'm jealous and want one lmao
Safe ones are often more creative and interesting
This is also an entry that reminds use that not all safe class items are 100% safe and can in fact be dangerous when used in inappropriate ways...
This one makes it clear if it hadn't been already that the categories are not threat assessments but containment issue assessments. The dictionary is safe from abuse, not least because the writer has not appeared to have the Property word spoken yet. It remains anomalous, however.
Me, I want to see the next guy try pronouncing the words backward to see if that enhances instead of forbidding.
I always enjoy these weirder, smaller scale SCPs more than the infinitely escalating world-ending ones.
hard agree, smaller, more intimate scales, do so much more for me than universe annihilating scp #28
I mean you say that, neighbor, but take a moment and imagine the potential havoc even this "small scale" object could cause if someone were to look up and speak the word "Earth," "humanity," "universe," or something more abstract like "existence." 👀
I think a lot of the writers use the giant scale of world enders as a crutch. The action and scale can be used to hide bad writing and a lack of actual story.
@@ThatGabeFlood are scary thought would be what abstract words have already been said
@@careydaniels310 qlh I feel v6omm😊3y😊😢s
Safe class SCPs are generally my favorite and I feel like they typically have the most interesting implications regarding their use and origin.
It sounds like Dr. Hapton lost the ability to administer tests of the Lost Dictionary when the word against Property was spoken. This implies that not only does perception play a role in the effect of the word in directed tests but in the mind of any observers. Had Dr. Hapton not observed the test personally he would not have inadvertently sabotaged his own ability to administer tests of the Dictionary.
That's interesting way of thinking about it
Even when recovering from a chest infection, the man makes my week, every week.
i hope your recovery is quick ! glad to see im not alone though, sundays are always an instantly good day when Volgun posts.
Hopefully he'll pre records a few when he's feeling better. A couple short ones like this would give him a month to recover next time.
Dr. Millar's lectures are a cure
hope you get better, did you take the 2021 covid vacca? just curius for stats.
my favorite type of SCP entries are ones with detailed testing and results
its why the coffee machine and the butler bell are my favs
I'm always fascinated by "Safe" SCPs. Since "Safe" in no way particularly means benign, just that you can put it in a box and forget it. But seeing what they do, their design intentions, implications, etc. is what makes them interesting.
I love SCPs that are like "We could put it away for years, basically forget it's a thing and the world will go on the way it has... BUT LORD HELP US IF SOMEONE GETS A HOLD OF IT ...especially if they have no idea what it does ...even worse if they do."
If the results of SCP 3348 entries are testable, predictable, and local in effect; I see no reason that the Foundation shouldn't be equipping MTF units with a shortlist of keywords for use in the field.
I can easily see the foundation creating some wizards with this, lol.
Imagine a group of completely unarmed mobile task force members walking up to a extremely hazardous entity, and shouting a specific chain of key words at the entity like a bunch of wizards.
Probably can't do that as a standard part of MTFs or you'd risk some grunts going mad with power and filtering into a splinter group, but a specialists group probably for sure.
I agree, but I see a full dictionary of reasons to NOT do that my good person 😊
The last test, the one where the good Dr. Hapton lost his ability to proceed with further tests is actually exactly why that wouldn't work. They're testable, but not *predictable* and while there is a local in effect, it's very short range ... or is it? There's no way to fully know exactly the range and on top of that, could create a cascading effect because, as the last test proved, the word for 'Property' affected his ability to even continue testing as that word affected him as a member of the Foundation, which now 'owned' the book / words being tested!
Bottom line, too risky as it might affect civilians unintentionally and could cause the MTF guys using the words to unintentionally affect themselves as well. The fact that the words in the document are partly censored is an intentional part of this SCP's mythos : it's to keep the reader safe from their effect.
A reminder that Safe is in relation to the items ability to be contained, not just its lethality or lack of.
Ooooh, The Wanderer's library always grabs me in an SCP...
I love how the testing log goes from "knoife dont work" to "lets give this person a reason to use a wheelchair" back to back.
This reminds me or Enuncia from Warhammer 40k.
Enuncia is an ancient forgotten language that alters reality when spoken and is essentially the source code of the universe.
I recommend reading Dan Abnetts Ravenor book series if this sounds interesting to you, they're great books.
Hmm this is am interesting concept definitely gonna check it out
@@rikubrown8109 they've got some really cool sci fi concepts going on there and the mystery is enthralling
Dan Abnett is a fantastic author, I definitely have to check this out. I loved his runs on Titans and Aquaman from DC’s Rebirth line of comics.
My heart sank a little at the equivalent word to love. Not that I didn't know the SCP Foundation is often unspeakably cruel.
Yeah me too. Just out of nowhere killing a relationship made me so fucking sad
This thing is insanely powerful. If there are any words for growth or heal there is a certain very angry unkillable lizard beast that might finally be destroyed.
It would've been cool if subjects B or C read the word for "to observe" instead of what they were told to read so they could get revenge on the staff for ending their relationship.
I love the kind of scp that lets me imagine it outside of what was in the article.
I love an SCP with earth-shattering implications that aren't literally just "The Earth is going to shatter". Keep up the fantastic work!
TheVolgun: Definition:
A man of sheer determination to always provide an awesome video through hard times.
Bruh imagine a test subject accidentally reads out the word for "alive"
The affected area is pretty small. So, it's probably not that big of a deal.
Outcome A: everyone dies in a gory way, outcome B: everyone spontaneously stumbles backwards and dies, outcome C: everyone spontaneously goes into cardiovascular arrest.
Infomercial: "There has to be a better way!"
The Foundation: "Our testing has successfully eliminated the better way."
Be interesting to test the "Hostile" word on the Shy Guy and see what happens.
Maybe he would just kind of chase you down and stare at you if you look at him? I imagine he would only lose the trait of killing and nothing else.
I'd love to hear more about the Kaejnithionians.
That’s incredibly useful… you could buff yourself by speaking words like “cowardice” or “distracted”.
It sounds like the words actually mean the opposite of what the "translator" believes them to mean, a "bizarro language" spoken in negatives, and when these words are spoken their effect manifests that negative meaning. I'm glad this is one of those objects with clearly defined limits. I suspect any attempt to circumvent such as saying the word for "space" wouldn't somehow reach beyond it's sphere of influence thanks to surrounding reality pushing back and insisting that the created singularity nevertheless keep it's defined location relative to everything else.
I was thinking whatever wiped out the civilization also negates anything said in their language.
@@MtnNerd Now that's intense. I'm picturing a scenario where it's the language itself that was so cursed, and thus the speakers erased their own civilization entirely, save for one, one man, who has a skull face and is obsessed with replicating the same means... but for English.
The people of the library intentionally getting rid of info is crazy but I can see why in this case since it removes info.
Oh I *love* the art for the "not-red" apple. Gives off major "thing you shouldn't fuck with" vibes.
So happy and relieved to hear more 'safe' class stories. It means the foundation's tragic history of breaches and existential near misses(?) is finally on the mend.
I give due credit to the apparently random but undoubtedly effective cooperation from Directorate K. Confusion to Our Nameless Enemies, and More so to the Named. For God's Sake: Don't Stop What's Working!
The "love" experiment is incredibly fucked up. It is one thing to injure a D-class, but to twist their minds like that, knowing full well the expected outcome, is downright sadistic.
And the implications there that there wouldn't be a remission either. Their lives were ruined. Ruineder, hard to have a life as D class.
@@Frosthowl93 It is one thing to dictate the death of somebody; as the great equalizer, death comes for us all eventually. To intentionally screw up someone's life, though? Monstrous, in my opinion at least.
@@daniell1483 yeah that struck me as incredibly evil. And it never comes back into play in the story either... I wouldn't have put it in
They're D-class, they have no rights.
@K R It does come into play somewhat
With the guard and the d-class who hated him. It's noted ever since the test, subject B, the D-Class has become oddly more cooperative with the staff overall.
Either the changes aren't permanent after 30 seconds and its just lingering emotions of the memory and the D-Class became scared realizing their mind was altered thus obeys more to not be controlled further
Or
The changes are indeed permanent when dealing with the psychological effects of the language
I'm more hoping it's the former as it's always a shame hearing heartbreak and all that
I'm actually trying to build a dnd campaign based around the Scp universe so I love seeing these safe class videos. They're great inspiration for magic items
Cool. More serpent’s Hand entries.
I’ve been absolutely loving the safe scp’s recently!
Okay, I rarely comment on UA-cam these days, but I have to voice my absolute adoration for this SCP. This was awesome, intriguing, and involved a group of interest in a fascinating manner other than "GoF showed up so we meet a quota in writing"
If the serpent's hand thinks it dangerous enough to destroy, you should probably do so.
It can erase feelings permanently thats pretty strong & very messed up
The word for "limited (radius) is spoken. Probably by accident.
And oh look suddenly it's an XK-class that takes every spoken word that matches a written one _across the universe_ and slams the associated effect down upon the fabric of reality.
If its absolute power is limited, then it'll still hex the Earth to death in a day or so.
I'm glad that we still have someone dedicated to putting out SCP videos. It seems like more and more UA-camrs are getting away from it while the fan base is getting more and more enthralled in the stories
i love youtube and ad placement
9:53
The contents of the note are as follows… “Energy suppliers don’t want you to know this simple trick to warm up houses for practically zero cost!”
Literal words of power. The quintessential Serpent's Hand SCP. I'd almost consider giving this back to them when the author came back for it if I was the site admin, just because I'm such a sucker for keeping things thematic, and it just feels *right* for the Hand to have this in their possession. Plus it would be nice to keep relations with at least a few GoIs relatively good.
Site XX head of security: "How could he have possibly known the location of one of the more secure facilities on Earth and so easily accessed it?"
Researcher: "Have you noticed the pages containing the words for 'ignorance' and 'incapacity' are earmarked?"
Perfect ☔ rainy Sunday ☔
Time to lock all the doors and watch this video in a dark room 🔥
The bit at the end is excellent because of course security would be their primary concern
Imagine speaking the word for "death" in the presence of a corpse.
I like how some of the scps and the people in the scps seem to know of the foundation. It's a huge secret on earth but else where it is known. Interesting name, the Jailer Cells
Makes you wonder if this thing could make that nasty old lizard docile.
A bowling ball hits his feet at terminal velocity “the subject sustained minor injuries.”
I mean, it might have been a light ball. They make 4lb balls for kids.
I just, love the music for these safer scps. Always interesting to listen to these
Thank you for still doing them, even if they aren't the most popular of your uploads (from what I heard you mention before)
It could be useful, like imagine you have a containment breach and said the word for “hostile” or “confrontational” or “insubordinate” and just got the SCP in question to walk back to their cells. But that’s the “play with fire, burn the world” typa deal.
You know it's gonna be a good time when a Safe SCP comes up! If they're being featured that means it has to be creative, not just another giant cthulhu monster or "world building canons".
I love these shorter, fascinating entries. Thank you volgun mwah mwah mwah
"The contents of the letter are as follows:"
Immediately an ad plays.
That "Love" test is horrible in so many ways. Love is the meaning of life. Even if you are in a cell or in pain. Knowing you can love and have love is all that gives suffering meaning. That is inhumane in a different way than many of the things ive read in scps
Oh god if the Serpent’s Hand wants to destroy it who knows what it can do
There are some interesting and/or scary words they could be testing. Stuff like "crippled" or "maimed," or even stuff like "dying" or "dead."
Every single week I get excited to see a new Volgun video on my youtube page. Keep it up, you're an inspiration for many 👍
If there is a word for healing or regeneration or something along those lines could this be used to neutralise 682 since the adjective seems to be permanent
It’s a language of counterspells, no wonder it’s wiped
Stellar work as always sir. Love your stuff, keep it up.
A truly interesting SCP with lore implications. Sometimes, you get tired of just the constant gross and violent SCPs, so this was a nice breath of fresh air
Yes interesting Safe-Class SCPs!
Some of the best content ever!
Its interesting that the couple in love instantly hated each other once the concept of love was removed from existence. Like, they didnt become neutral toward each other, they veered straight to mutual hatred and disgust.
I quit looking at SPCs since so many of them were world ending overpowering super monsters
It's great seeing people covering articles like this one, they're a lot more creative.
I swear this is the first SCP I've ever heard after *years* of being in this community of D-class having romantic relationships.
Afternoon class... Present!
Your content is just right for me to listen to before calling it a "day" for my nightshift
The fall one makes me think this thing could be used as a pretty powerful weapon...
What a nice reference to Lovecraft in the apple test. Damn this SCP is good, thanks for delivering it to us!
Hell yes, awesome, safe yet intriguing scp, keep them coming!
Always glad to see your uploads, no matter what they are. Even if I lose interest in SCP for a lil while, I know I'll always come back to amazing content from ya
Love the Serpent's Hand ❤❤ preserving the language of "gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss" for future generations 😂
The fact that the Foundation refuses to exploit stuff like this is why they are always on the back foot. Imagine if they found a way to remmove ''dullness'' from a sword or increase the range of that that freindliness effect.
We just gonna skip over the part where they made two people who loved each other, hate each other?
What right do they have to play God?
I'm enjoying these safe SCPs with the music playing. Been a while since my last SCP video, and last SCP file that I wrote. Thanks Volly :)
This was cool as heck. What a neat entry!
Theses are my favorite type of SCPs, they are fascinating, leaving thinking about all the possibilities of what you can do with them if you had them in your hands.
Yay! Notifications seem to be working again, thank you for another great video. I rather enjoy these conceptual entries.
“The contents of the note are as follows…” *ads for furniture start blaring*
Wonder if this could be used to pacify the hard to kill Lizard? After all removing from it the ability to be hostile...
That's what I was thinking
"I might die but I know you'll protect this knowledge."
SCP Foundation: yeah figure out where the leak is, foop this guy
I really like SCPs that are simple to understand yet interesting. More of these please!
"The contents of the note are as follows..."
"I was diagnosed with afib..."
Thank you, UA-cam. 😂
A shame about the couple that got separated because of the tests. Of course, not by far the worst thing the foundation did, but regardless, felt pity for them.
This is effectively a wizard's tome. Very cool scp.
what good fortune, i was just thinking a few minutes ago about how i wanted to see another volgun SCP video, and here we are :3
I always love the safe ones. I recently listened to the SCP-1762 one and it is probably one of my favorite stories now.
Thanks for the video!
I'm kind of amazed the researchers couldn't think of any more useful information that could be gained from this SCP. I had dozens of ideas of what it could be used for or tested on while listening to this. You could have doctors in the infirmary just start using adjectives as people come in. "Injured." "Sick." "Cancerous." "Infected." "Demented." "Depressed." The verb thing only lasts thirty seconds, it seems like that'd be useful too. "Fail", "fall", "die", "miss", would all be good options for a self-buff in a pinch. And, of course, you could probably use "anomalous" to neutralize any number of SCP's.
This one is amazing! What an awesome idea!
Everyone needs to heavily start supporting the SCP Community it's dying out
I'm in awe just seeing this for 1st time. How do I learn more about this? Can you help an old lady grasp what this is about?? Hmm, O negative, this knowledge journey has me as a child, sponge. Icon picture is hummingbird on birch tree January 1 2016 Minnesnowda. Positive energy together. Stories seem endless yet I know I've barely got through the surface of what's really going down. Xfiles??
I must've missed my notification but I'm here and ready for the seminar Dr. Miller
It would have been cool if the way he got the book to the foundation was he said the word for uncontained, could have even had the book appeared turned to that page. Seems like a missed opportunity
I really love way you’ve made the text on the side. Before it changed, it was easy to get lost in the wall of text
ah, I love scps that arent world ending yet are still creepily eldritch in nature
You think they would teach that "hostile" word to every single guard. Anything breaking out going on a murder spree. 6 syllables and boom docile kittens.
Thanks for this.
A linguistic bomb, similar to an emp, very nice!
I just started getting into SCP stuff and holy moly is it interesting
Very interesting SCP! Thank you!
I like the new format, i used to accidentally read ahead a bunch on the scroll
so the test on the word "hostile" is interesting as it implies that the D class was not just forced to be nice but had its head filled with reasons to do so that due to memory being a thing had lasting effects on it's willingness to do so
I love fisical, tangible SCPs, when its just objects with weird properties
I suspect theres a invisible being constantly saying the word competent next to me
Love these quirky safe anomalies I wish we had more of these reports!
I would like to propose 2 experiments.
1: When a SCP or SCP's have breached contained use the word "breached" when referring to the affected site.
2: The word "exists" when referring to SCP-001 "the scarlet king".
It sounds like Hampton lost the ability to perceive 3348 as the scp he was in charge of.
Tip: When you read a new word, sound it out. Most of the Kaejnethionian words you attempted to pronounce were fundamentally wrong in that you kept placing the letters out of order.
Reading the word as a whole only works if it is a word you are familiar with. Otherwise, you end up getting the first and last letter correct whilst jumbling the letters between.
