      This one makes it clear if it hadn't been already that the categories are not threat assessments but containment issue assessments. The dictionary is safe from abuse, not least because the writer has not appeared to have the Property word spoken yet. It remains anomalous, however.
      Me, I want to see the next guy try pronouncing the words backward to see if that enhances instead of forbidding.

    It sounds like Dr. Hapton lost the ability to administer tests of the Lost Dictionary when the word against Property was spoken. This implies that not only does perception play a role in the effect of the word in directed tests but in the mind of any observers. Had Dr. Hapton not observed the test personally he would not have inadvertently sabotaged his own ability to administer tests of the Dictionary.

      @gearsoverdusk7303 Рік тому +25

      The last test, the one where the good Dr. Hapton lost his ability to proceed with further tests is actually exactly why that wouldn't work. They're testable, but not *predictable* and while there is a local in effect, it's very short range ... or is it? There's no way to fully know exactly the range and on top of that, could create a cascading effect because, as the last test proved, the word for 'Property' affected his ability to even continue testing as that word affected him as a member of the Foundation, which now 'owned' the book / words being tested!
      Bottom line, too risky as it might affect civilians unintentionally and could cause the MTF guys using the words to unintentionally affect themselves as well. The fact that the words in the document are partly censored is an intentional part of this SCP's mythos : it's to keep the reader safe from their effect.

I'm glad this is one of those objects with clearly defined limits. I suspect any attempt to circumvent such as saying the word for "space" wouldn't somehow reach beyond it's sphere of influence thanks to surrounding reality pushing back and insisting that the created singularity nevertheless keep it's defined location relative to everything else.

    Theses are my favorite type of SCPs, they are fascinating, leaving thinking about all the possibilities of what you can do with them if you had them in your hands.

    A shame about the couple that got separated because of the tests. Of course, not by far the worst thing the foundation did, but regardless, felt pity for them.

    I'm kind of amazed the researchers couldn't think of any more useful information that could be gained from this SCP. I had dozens of ideas of what it could be used for or tested on while listening to this. You could have doctors in the infirmary just start using adjectives as people come in. "Injured." "Sick." "Cancerous." "Infected." "Demented." "Depressed." The verb thing only lasts thirty seconds, it seems like that'd be useful too. "Fail", "fall", "die", "miss", would all be good options for a self-buff in a pinch. And, of course, you could probably use "anomalous" to neutralize any number of SCP's.

      I'm in awe just seeing this for 1st time. How do I learn more about this? Can you help an old lady grasp what this is about?? Hmm, O negative, this knowledge journey has me as a child, sponge. Icon picture is hummingbird on birch tree January 1 2016 Minnesnowda. Positive energy together. Stories seem endless yet I know I've barely got through the surface of what's really going down. Xfiles??

    so the test on the word "hostile" is interesting as it implies that the D class was not just forced to be nice but had its head filled with reasons to do so that due to memory being a thing had lasting effects on it's willingness to do so

    1: When a SCP or SCP's have breached contained use the word "breached" when referring to the affected site.
    2: The word "exists" when referring to SCP-001 "the scarlet king".

    Tip: When you read a new word, sound it out. Most of the Kaejnethionian words you attempted to pronounce were fundamentally wrong in that you kept placing the letters out of order.
    Reading the word as a whole only works if it is a word you are familiar with. Otherwise, you end up getting the first and last letter correct whilst jumbling the letters between.
