Her saying "the walk to nowhere" really made me so sad. I have been homeless with my two children and husband. We stayed at a shelter for 3 months. But we were one of the lucky ones. Found an apartment and have never looked back. I hope she finds a place of her own soon. And she has every right to cry. If you have never walked the walk of homeless then you have no right to judge.

I hate how ignorant and sheltered people are! Not all homeless are the severely mentally ill or drug addicts! Sometimes, good people just continue to get trampled over. They did all the right things society expected out of them and they still get a crap shit deal! I use to always remind people that "it doesn't take brains to make big bucks." And that's the truth! You could be extremely bright, gifted, but if you have crappy family (or no family at all), no real friends or "people" skills, you could easily be homeless at some point in your life!

@@doodledan86 Most homeless people living in California are ignorant. Why do they move to California if they can't afford to do so? This White lady is a good example. She's only been living there for 17 years according to the video. Why doesn't she go back home to Alabama or Missouri or wherever she moved from? All these out-of-state White folk move to L.A., then liberals expect us to feel bad for them.
Like I tell others, Los Angeles beach neighborhoods aren't for everyone.
And yes, most of the Whites who still live in L.A. are from a different state. The reason why the Non-Hispanic White population seems to be around 28% according to the Census is BECAUSE of the large Middle Eastern (Armenian, Iranian, Turkish, Arab, Afghan, Jewish) and North African population. These groups are counted as "White" for statistical purposes.

@@alelaeduplasey9468 You really have a lot to learn. You should watch the whole series on this channel before making obtuse comments. I have found the laziest people holding jobs. They have job security, have a regular paycheck, a job that doesn't ask for much. Therefore act no better than a bump on the log and make no effort to better themselves, even with speech. Homelessness is totally different ballgame psychologically. It can happen to anyone, even once successful engineers and businessmen. Sometimes it's a string of bad decisions where the chickens came home to roost.

When you don't honor (stay with, help, obey, take care of) your parents, the result is inexorable: everything will go wrong and your life will be shorter. You described the path most of us take, looking for more money and superficial pleasures, leaving behind our family and friends. All of this was taught by Satan and we believed his lies.

@@jenemac Some of you sound incredibly innocent and naive with very little real experience of the world. The fact that you see "family" as the answer to homelessness makes me laugh. Most homeless people have their core problem rooted in their experience of family, this is to say that their problems commenced way back in childhood because family did NOT prove to be the protective safe haven that society claims it is. I work with homeless people here in Europe and over 80% of homeless people have been abused in childhood. Abuse derails a child and they spend the rest of their childhood and their entire adulthood trying to get back on track emotionally. Until they can do this they will never again function as an unbroken human being. Their mind is always partially preoccupied by imagining and planning new ways to get themselves back on track as a person, leaving less capacity for rational thinking, for forming and maintaining healthy relationships, or for concentration on studies and other self-serving and progressive achievements. Why not broaden your minds and volunteer to work with homeless people? Until you do this you will continue to exhibit the lack of understanding and lack of empathy you are showing here. Dare to step outside of your overly protected ring-fenced world and learn what this world is really all about outside of your insular and safe existence. Yes your narrow-minded opinions count as much as the next person's. But remember, opinion is the lowest form of knowledge, and empathy is the highest. Have a nice day.

I think it is left to us individuals to help the homeless. Be it a gift of money or even offering a place to stay for the night. I know may people are afraid to open up to the homeless because of the the crazy element that populate that community. We all need to do what we can for our fellow humans. Invisible People I read the biography of a man who was in a concentration camp. He noted that for many, having had everything stripped from them, including the ability to know their future, THE DAYS GO SLOW, AND THE WEEKS GO FAST. Also, that they were completely alienated from the world they had once been in, to the extent that they could no longer identify with it.
These experiences seem to be common to the oppressed. and persecuted.
May God deliver this woman and her beloved pets from this situation, and until then, may He protect them.

It's funny how people like you get fooled into thinking that Whites are native to the L.A. region. Most of the original Whites have LONG since moved out. The ones that are left are either super rich, or homeless folk from out-of-state.

This homeless situation is getting worse by the day and I see it in my own city.....................
These videos need to be a topic at election time on how to get help for people in these situations. I constantly go to the truck stops in my area and hand out gift cards from McDonalds and Subway, the last time I purchased $10-$20 gift cards at Subway the manager wanted to know why I was getting 10 at a time, so I told him I hand them out to people living in their cars and sleeping on sidewalks, and that store donated another $50 in cards to my cause.... I'm now motivated in asking the fast food restaurants if they would like to donate to the homeless after I purchase these cards.

Alicia explains very well the implications of being older on the street and the accumulated stress that it takes on her. No wonder she cries so much. Anybody would be severely depressed like her. Alicia talks in a coherent way, she assumes responsability for letting someone abuse her. I hope she can get back in housing. I think you could add stories of people that made it out of the homelessness so we can see, what helped them.

Thank you for this video. Homeless isn't something I encounter often in my daily life. However, this video has made me more aware of the possible reasons behind their situation. I pray I will have more courage when I do see someone in this situation. I believe pretending not to see is a coping mechanism for me. A way for me not to worrying that this could be me or someone I love. Fear has kept me from reaching out, but I'm determined to do something next time. I know a small act of kindness will not change their situation, but it could help if they are just trying to get through the day.

I got a taste of that while I was visiting San Diego and asked strangers for info on public transportation, people didn’t want to even acknowledge me as a human and I’m totally not asking for anything just info on how ticket machines work. What a terrible feeling to feel invisible to people around you.

America should take care of there own legal citizens and not illegal immigrants. There are rich prosperity ministers like joyce Meyers, jd farag, Kenneth Copeland, joel osteen, etc, who would rather live a lavish lifestyle instead of helping the homeless. I wonder what God has in store for such people.

.."you are either invisible or an eyesore.."wow,that is sad indictment on the present state of humanity.Sending love Alicia, may you find everything you need and a home of your own.Godbless.If there is one thing we can do other than give some money then it is to at least sit down and talk with someone and let them share whatever part of their story they wish to and make them feel valued and human again, its the least we can do.

To everyone offering rooms and cars and solutions...you aren’t listening. She isn’t saying she doesn’t have any options. She’s saying that she wants to be where she feels a connection...where it feels like home...Venice Beach. She doesn’t want to move to Idaho and live in your empty spare bedroom. Psychology is more powerful than our physical needs.

Nic E ok sorry but that is silly. She chooses homelessness over a home simply based on location. I guess she believes she is in a position to do that so she doesn’t dislike homelessness as much as she seems too?

Her story doesn't resonate with me as much. 2 years and you haven't accepted your position enough to say let me go to a pet friendly shelter somewhere in a town in America that will offer me a place, an open housing list, job placement and recovery if needed. You are on the street you lived for 17 years and not one neighbor helped? Daughter won't help? Stop holding on to the existence that is no longer. Accept the current existence so you can move forward and prosper but feeling sorry for yourself and helpless is crazy. There are so many animal shelters in California that always need volunteers-sounds like a free place to work and stay and house your pets. America is a big place. Venice hasn't been nice to you and the ocean no longer makes you happy go inland to Oklahoma Wyoming Utah to a small town with the section 8 list you want. Also shelters in over populated places pay transportation for you to leave the state quick. Not being judgemental or nasty just a realist. I've been vehicle bound homeless before... so I get that streets and tent is next level however don't sink like this next thing you know you'll turn to drugs to continue the lethargic spirit and that's a slippery slope for any human soul. You're a white woman in America go get yourself together! They'll help you!Relocation is your best card to play because the west coast of California is only for wealthy people and I mean generational wealth not new money and if you don't have that you will always check your account fearful of what you see and smell around you from the conditions of the have nots versus the haves.

Anxiety, self loathing, trauma & etc. can cloud logic. Your lecturing doesn't fix that.
