    Funny you didn’t ask why they sell Ozempic for $64 in the UK, $119 in Canada but we pay $1200 in the US! You’re having people focus on the shiny object instead of talking about real issues of corporate price gouging.

    • @mpdragon64
      @mpdragon64 Місяць тому +8

      @visceratrocar each manufacturer has 2 variants of the same drug one approved for diabetes like Ozempic and one approved for weight loss like Wegovy. Both of those are made by the same company with the same dosage of the base drug and are just packaged differently. Wegovy is Ozempic but is split into 4 weekly 1 use pens and costs about 50% more and is less available.

    • @visceratrocar
      @visceratrocar Місяць тому +2

      @mpdragon64 Still takes a prescription, and I'm assuming a minimum weight to start. I've also heard they taper down the dose as the patient reaches their goal weight so it's more of a maintenance dose than immediate treatment. It also requires significant lifestyle changes and dietary adjustments to be most effective. It will work on it's own, but not as well as it could. People just go full dose all the time and wonder why they gain the weight back when they stop.

    • @mpdragon64
      @mpdragon64 Місяць тому

      @visceratrocar yeah of course physician consultation, guidance, recommendations, and prescriptions are needed since it's a prescription only drug. Getting any of the above isn't that hard, getting coverage through insurance is because it is only that expensive in the US. The whole point I was getting at is that if these products weren't artificially and superficial priced so high and availability made scarce for people who have legitimate recommendations and prescribed by their physicians, people wouldn't be so desperate to jump through all these dangerous hoops.

      The NHS is pretty much the only show in town here in the UK though, it gives them a strong bargaining position. The NHS say what they're prepared to pay and the pharma companies pretty much have to accept it or miss out on the UK market. The pharma companies usually end up taking take the pragmatic approach - a good profit, while not as nice as an utterly absurd profit (like in the USA), is still better than zero sales.

    Ordering from Canadian online pharmacies is safe, just make sure they have the CIPA seal and check their customer reviews. CIPA members must adhere to strict quality control standards. Their prices are low since they procure their products from jurisdictions that have government imposed price controls. Most Canadian online pharmacies will connect you to a licensed pharmacist free of charge so you can speak with a professional druggist should you have concerns before making a purchase. Just avoid dodgy overseas sellers and you should be fine. Don't risk your health buying the fakes, it isn't worth it.

    This is not an Ozempic only problem, it is an industry problem, the drug company sells to middlemen (PBM) who jack up the rates to insurance companies, insurance companies pay the middlemen what they ask based on what a PBM wants for it. But behind the scenes, the insurance companies buy/merge with a PBM, and then cry foul when they are the ones who can influence the PBMs they own. All the while, the "regulators" (congressman and women, etc.) are "sleeping" at the wheel, or in other words, making millions off lobbyists, speaking gigs, etc., and come out multi millionaires, and support funding the research with our tax dollars. Then, companies that make the drugs get patent protection, sell it across the world for whatever they can get, and then upcharge where they can in an effort to "fund the research" lol its just a cycle

    The issue with medications in America is that they know that we rely heavily on insurance to pay for our medications so they can charge a lot for these medications knowing the insurance companies will pay for them. For example for Wegovy, if you qualify for this medication: BMI >30 or have type 2 diabetes then insurance will cover this medication and the copay is 25 dollars. However if you are overweight but not obese and doesn’t qualify for the medication but want to pay out of pocket, then it becomes 1400 dollars. I think the black market attracts those people who don’t necessarily qualify for the medication otherwise but wants a quick fix for their weight problems

    They're focusing on the counterfeit drugs and stopping the criminals, but if they would instead talk about and fix the root cause of the problem the market would disappear. The reason people are buying these things is because no one can afford $1000 for a drug.
    It goes to show how messed up the US health care system is, when you have to put your life on the line to go out and buy drugs online that might be counterfeit because the price of the legitimate drug is ridiculous.
