Alamy min per sale is like $8 or $9 do not expect to sell on Alamy if you have the same pictures that you have in all other agencies because it doesnt have subscription plans for their buyers. What Alamy is known for is strict quality so a buyer go there when they need pictures for a really important project and is worth paying like $20 a pic min depending on the license they need. So in short words all clients that buy stock picture have a subscription plan on other agencies like Shutterstock and if their are looking for high quality stuff in Alamy they take the time to look if the same picture is on sale at the other agencies so they can buy it cheaper, if they can not find it elsewhere they buy it on Alamy.

Wow, a lot of 0 sales for a lot of work... that sucks, maybe better just to focus on Shutterstock and Adobe and I guess pond5 since I have heard people get returns from there (not me personally).
At least the income graph is going up :) I hope you guys get more video sales especially with all the work you are putting in.
I think when it comes to video it is important to make very creative shots and keep pushing, because they are harder to sell, but really worth it when you do, for you to have an idea of other peoples sales I have 380 videos and make just about 2 sales a month but many of those videos (120) were added in the last month so those stats are not stable stats.
ps. you should add your Shutterstock and adobe portfolios in the video descriptions here on youtube, that way more people can find your stuff and also send some link juice to it so it will appear better in google search

That's an awesome idea How to Make Sushi! I didn't know their algorithms worked like that. That's a really good point! But then we have to show our portfolio! :x hahaha and it's probably not that great. But that's an excellent idea! We'll look into it! ^.^ We actually just made our very first sale on Pond 5. Big surprise for us! Where are you currently posting to??

Thanks for the video about your sales . I've been doing stock photography and stock footage for 2 years. In my experience iStock Getty Images is one of three agencies which generates the most sales (with Shutterstock and Adobe Stock). 26% of my earnings this year have been from this agency. At the moment I'm thinking about dropping the other agency I load to Dreamstime. I've only earned $10.40 after loading 1010 images this year!

Hey Peter! 2 years is such a long time for stock! Good to see you're still motivated and at it! Yes, we need to post to istock! It's on our to do list! That's awesome to hear it's your number one site! Dreamstime has been really slow for us too. Are you uploading footage to istock too? How do your footage sales look across the different platforms?

@@jdandkylestock3482 You can post video to iStock Getty Images via their website. I only have a few videos (about 50) but they account for about a quarter of my income on iStock. My videos (generally of railway trains and freeways) are selling about 1 or 2 a month on Shutterstock and iStock.

@@jdandkylestock3482 Hi, I've not got far with video uploads and haven't used Story Blocks or Video Blocks. On Shutterstock, I've 48 videos and 2646 images! I enjoy the photographic side more than video. Variety of images is very important to sales. As a result it does take 2 years to build up a big enough portfolio. Overtime you also get a better perspective on what subject matter is going to sell.

Well done for your persistence, it's impressive
In your costs/outlay as a business you need to factor in your own hourly rate for both creation and uploading, I think it might be a little scary when you realise it's not a true residual income and the only way to get a regular/steady income is to continue to put in the hours

Yepppp that's the next video we're working on. We're creating a video on how much time we've actually spent working on all of this so far and what our hourly rate is.... I think so far it's like $2 an hour for video...... 😶 And that's not including expenses because we're still negative there.....

Hi guys thanks for the video! The first 10 videos that I submitted to shutterstock were rejected too 😅 (for multiple technical issues) but I managed to get 9 of them accepted just by changing the format. Try to export them from premiere as mov files, Apple ProRes 422 codec did the trick for me.

I checked your portfolio and the quality is amazing! Great job.
Compared to other stock photographers who report earnings in UA-cam, I feel like your income should be much more.
Do you know if the topics of your images are already saturated? Do they show up when the subject is searched? Have you considered branching out to editorials and other trendy topics too.
I have uploaded to Shutterstock/Adobe as an expirement (I don't have time to keep doing it), and my sales/number of images ratio is much higher than what you're reporting.
Good luck with everything, persistence is key. I subscribed to the channel because I'm rooting for you guys and I am interested to follow your journey and success. 🤞 🤞 🤗

Idk if it's just because we're newer, or maybe we don't have that much variety in our portfolio and it's a lot of sets with similar images.... that could very well be part of the reason... Thanks for the subscribe! We appreciate you!

Good for you guys and congrats to the video sale! But you need to include your time!!! Your time is the most valuable thing you invest? How much time have you invested into shooting these, editing, uploading, keywording... How much money would you make if you were doing other job?

    • @jdandkylestock3482
      @jdandkylestock3482  4 роки тому

Yes, yes, and yaaaaaas. We agree with you 100%! And the answer is, TOO much time! Lol. We started stock as a bit of a side project... I'd always heard about it over the years, but really curious what kind of residual income you can make from it.... We've definitely been slowing down in the number of images and videos we've been posting each month. Burning out. But our payout each month has been about the same. So that's interesting! Curious to see how much $ we can continue to pull in without doing anything..... Are you currently posting to stock?? What's your experience been?

@@jdandkylestock3482 Yeah, I have been contributing to Shutterstock for less than a year and I think, I had quite success compared to other newbies. Yet, if I count all my investments (preps, equipment, time...) and devide them with my sales, then hell so not worth it. I make good money with my current job, but photography is a hobby for me and I thought it would be interesting to see if I could make some money with it. I sold an image through Getty Images once, that made some good money and I also sold one photo for $7 on Shutterstock. Sometimes, I sell a photo for $1,88 too. But that doesn't happen so often. I will be reaching 100 sales soon. A few tips I observed during the time is that you need to be uploading constatnly (several times a week or daily). That can get really exhausting, especially when your pictures get rejected for no obvious reason and approved a few days latter by someone else... No comment. But at the same time, it doesn't make sense to upload to the topic which is over saturated. That's why I think I was relatively successful as a newbie. I researched the topics and found one I can contribute too. So, you don't want to upload a beautiful picture of cupcakes for instance. There are like 200 000+ pictures of cupcakes, but you want to find a category where there is less concurrence (like a few hundreds photos or even less). I contribute only too Shutterstock, Eyeem and Getty. I have also account with Adobe and 123, but these are not really worth of my time. For me, as a hobbiest, the biggest asset was that I have learnt so much about photography and my pictures can now compete with professional photographers; which is great. But when it comes to money. Ehm, I wanted to make some extra money so I can buy some new lences, well, that will definitely take more time than I have expected. I'm thinking about getting into videography, but boy, the competition there...so many of those submitts are from people who make living with these full time. They have professional equipment and they know what they are doing... But, I think I will give it a try... Another great asset was metting so many new people through the community of photographer, so that was also great. I wish you best luck with this experiment and hopefully it will snowball as so many fellow photographers have been telling me.

@@romana1566 Your comment mirrors my experience. Photography is fun but the time required to catalogue, describe, keyword and upload is at best frustrating, and at worst soul destroying. If you factor in equipment cost, I think you'd have to be exceptional to earn good money. I try to be different and creative, but the platform is so saturated that it's difficult to find a niche market. The only factor that keeps me going is that my pictures - if not uploaded - would be languishing in my hard drive gathering cyber dust.

@@phildoodler2199 my biggest issue right now is with the sloopy reviewers who just do lousy job and do not even look at the pictures and reject your photo for no obvious reason and then you submit it again and it getd approved becaue that person do their job, so frustrating!
