More Pokémon need to evolve with older Evolution items that are only used for one line. Not only Stones ofc. Why is it that Razor Fang, Sachet, Protector, Electrizer, Magmarizer, Reaper's Cloth, etc. are species locked? Can you imagine a Dragon/Ground Onix Evo with Dragon Scale? Or a Fire Stone Pikachu becoming Gorochu! And let's not forget that Clamperl for some reason has TWO (2) exclusive ones that required TRADE as well.
These “one Pokemon evolution items” need to be given more uses Give them in-battle effects Or use them to evolve future Pokemon Don’t just leave them as “ah, the [pokemon] key to unlock it’s evolution”
Because of the double trade evolution, Porygon Z has the unique feature of being the only stage 2 Pokemon that you can get at Level 1 so you can hatch a Porygon and trade it with the Upgrade and then the Dubious Disc and have a level 1 fully evolved Porygon Z.
That's actually false -- there is another Pokemon that can evolve twice that can be aquired at level 1, namely Roserade. This is because both Budew and Roserade were introduced in gen4 as a pre-evolution and a new evolved form respectively for Roselia, which was previously a Pokemon with no evolution line. Because of this, if you want your egg to hatch into a Budew, you need to have the rose incense item be held while breeding -- if you don't have this item (or are otherwise not using it) the egg will hatch into Roselia instead, which can be evolved using a shiny stone. As for evolving Budew into Roselia, it needs to have a high happiness and level up during the day, which can be a pain due to Budew's really bad stats and access to a more limited (and frankly not very good) movepool; so trying to catch one in-game for your party is more trouble than it's arguably worth if you get it as a Budew instead of waiting until you can catch wild Roselia.
@@matthewkuscienko4616 Depends on how you define stage 2. To get level 1 Roserade it will need to hatch as a Roselia, which will only have evolved once to become Roserade
Here's a fun idea for more chess piece Pokemon. Make Pawniard another Tyrogue. At level 31, Pawniard evolves into: - Bisharp if its Attack is higher - Knight-based Pokemon (name pending) if its Speed is higher - Nothing if its Defense is higher than both At level 52, Pawniard will evolve into Fortrook (rook-based Pokemon) if its highest stat is Defense. It can still evolve into the other two. This is a reference to how rooks are higher valued than bishops or knights. If Bisharp's original evolution level is preserved, Fortrook's evolution becomes unlocked at level 86 instead.
The only evolution methods that ever really bugged me are trade evolutions and the fact that all the eeveelutions don’t evolve with stones. Otherwise, I actually enjoy when they do crazy evo methods because sometimes it feels like the kinda thing you’d hear on the playground, but then it’s actually in the game, which I think is neat.
I love these weird evolutions, especially the newer ones. It's like the stuff your friends tell you in school, like the famous "Mew under the truck", except the evolutions actually work. Trade evolutions suck, though.
I never thought friendship evolutions were that bad... Friendship goes up with level, so if you level up your Pokemon enough, you should be able to get them to evolve pretty easily. Every time I have used Crobat in a playthrough (catching it as a low level Zubat as soon as possible) I usually only have to level up Golbat once or twice, to get it to evolve again...
Personally, I kinda hate the fact that location-based evolutions were phased out. Sure, they were annoying, since they made some Pokémon like Glaceon obtainable stupidly late. But what really annoys me is that it happened in gen 8, the generation that introduced the one element that could easily have fixed these evolutions : the Wild Area. They just had to put the evolution location in the Wild Area, and boom, no more availability problem. Heck, Runerigus is basically a location-based evolution with some extra steps, and its location evolution is in the Wild Area.

Regarding evolving Galarian Yamask into Runerigus, Yamask has a measly base 38 HP, so if the enemy hits too hard, it will faint. As for Feebas into Milotic, making the right Pokeblocks or Poffins is time consuming, as it requires you to have the right Berries, then go through the process of making the right recipes and doing well in the minigames, and you better hope your Feebas doesn't have a nature that dislikes the dry flavor because if it does, it will get less of a beauty benefit from each snack. To rub salt in the wound, you can permanently lock your Feebas out of evolving.
Yet how anyone knew about the wild area part for yanmask ill never know. Loads of ppl mustve just walked all over just to find that one spot. So the hp req is one thing, but the area is what makes it dumb.

In my opinion I think evolutions should have the mentality of “should be achievable unintentionally or via trial and error” Levelling, Time of Day, Moves, and Friendship are the best examples for evolution methods able to be obtained unintentionally Stone and item evolution can be trial and error’d but some item evolution items should be given more than “it can evolve one Pokemon” because at the moment it is a glorified key Some evolutions I would change: Tyrogue: evolve into hitmontop if speed is higher than attack and defence Inkay: evolve after learning Switcheroo Sliggoo: Rain set by Rain Dance or Drizzle will also trigger the evolution White Stripe Basculin: use x number of recoil moves G Yamask: full rework, just have it evolve via Dusk Stone or Rune item
To be fair with the Meltan + Metal Alloy thing, I don’t think the line was ever made compatible SV, so they could make it evolve with the Metal Alloy down the line, it’s just a matter of “Will Niantic let them or will they throw a fit?”.
10:34 Fun fact the link cable item is not even unique to Legends Arceus. It has been around since 2005 in the first Mystery Dungeon games as an evolution item in those games, since trading did not exist in them.
@@mrboost4186 Yeah, that's why I said "link cable item" instead of just link cable or linking cable. Both cases it is more or less a link cable from the real world that was made into an item.
The whole thing about Galarian Yamask is that, a cursed rune attached to it. And by weakening the Yamask (have low hp) makes it easier for the rune to take over, specially in a place where sand/clay is abundant (the rock monolith with sandstorm). TLDR: Runerigus isn't the Yamask, but the cursed rune who took over after the Yamask was weakened
I actually do not have a problem with Feebas evolving by Beauty score. I actually think it's easier then having to trade it while holding a Prism Scale. I used this method for the first time in BDSP, and the only thing I found hard about it, was making the Poffins. But once I had the correct ones, I gave some to Feebas and evolved it right there. I literally managed to do all that in under an hour. I don't mind Trading being an option, for those that have friends, but I really think there should be alternate methods as well.
13:00 You CAN still get Stantler with Psyshield Bash as an egg move if you have a Wyrdeer that knows the move! I doubt the evolution still works though, seeing as it can't learn the move outside of as an egg move as far as I know.
Stantler cannot evolve in Scarlet and Violet. Also, I don't understand why he claims Psyshield Bash was removed from the game while showing Wyrdeer using it in Scarlet and Violet.

It's funny how we keep getting new evolution methods but some old ones are left completely forgotten. Gallade and Froslass are the only ones that evolve with a Dawn Stone and both are from gen 4. No Pokemon other than Leafeon and Glaceon evolve with the same method as them (with the Moss and Ice Rock respectively), both are also from gen 4. And I think there's only 2 mons that evolve only if they are traded for one another (Shelmet and Karrablast into Accelgor and Escavalier respectively). And there are surely other similar cases. One would imagine that we would get more mons that evolve that way since they're forced to program those evolution methods either way but apparently not.
15:51 I'm still angry about meltan, I had a shiny meltan that I wanted to register into my pokemon home so I could have my shiny pokedex filled, and realized when I got it to lvl 70 that it wasn't a leveling based evolution, nor trade, or anything else. I hope they fix it one day because i know I can't be the only one with a useless shiny meltan lol

8:31 my tradition is that my Panchams always level up with a Stunky in my group, it was a terrible selfish Pokemon that pushed Pancham to become the virtuous beast he is
Somehow PokeRogue actually fixes Tyrogue's evolution, as in that game, Tyrogue learns Mach Punch, Low Sweep and Rapid Spin at level 10 and depending on what move you teach it, it evolves into the corresponding Hitmon
I will say, I am Friendship's strongest soldier. It's pretty tedious but I've found it easy to just run back and forth not even a full hour to get the Pokemon to evolve. I did this as recently as my playthrough this year of White 2 where (after a 45 minute walk) I had a Lucario after my battle with Cheren.
plus friendship evo's aren't as bad as they used to be, since the introduction of the soothe bell and luxury ball in gen 3 do speed up the process immensely, plus the friend ball also heavily speeds up the process (in fact the friend ball was the reason in Ultra Sun i was able to have a snorlax before the boss fight with Marowak)
Fun fact: Shelmet and Kerrablast won't evolve if traded for one another in Pokemon HOME, meaning that the overall population of Accelgor and Excavalier will likely decrease over time because there will be less of them floating about in Surprise Trade and the like. (Lore-wise, this means that in the context of HOME's setting - if that can be said to even exist - the trade is NOT considered to be using electrical signals for data transfer due to that being part of the catalyst mentioned in their pokedex entries.) It's kind of like an anti-Lapras effect when you think about it...
2:08 Time-base Evolution, yes. My younger brother and I did not know how Amaura evolved. He beated Diantha and the Gang with a Level 68 Amaura and finally evolved it after Calem Rematch for him. And I already had a Tyrantrum.
I remember having all my knowledge of Pokémon games from playing Gale of Darkness and arguing about the correct way of getting an Umbreon. Also trade evolutions suck, through a crazy straw. Remember that troll that trades you a Haunter or Kadabra? with an everstone?! I cried, and I was already an adult when I played Platinum.
I still believe for Galarian Yamask's evolution, that the rock was supposed to have glyphs representing a dragon on it, but it was cut during development. It's the only way to make it make sense.
The walk evos are actually pretty easy once u have access to Area Zero. The distance between the point where u and the gang lands in that segment of the main story and the shortcut-slope that leads to the 1st laboratory is enough to evolve them.
Sirfetch'd has my favorite evolution method. Most of the "challenge" for the other weird methods are either just unlikely to be found without a guide or *just* take a long time. Having to get three crits in one battle is actually something of a challenge. It's a reward for being able to battle well.
I honestly have absolutely no problem with any of these evolution methods. I'm not impatient enough to whine about friendship evolutions as if I didn't have 5 other pokemon in my team to help with the battles in the meantime and I really like the weird evolution methods. I think they're pretty creative, make the pokemon more memorable and I also think it's cool that they're tied to their lore. Besides I'd take weird evolution methods over trade evolutions or union circle evolutions any day.
Go on the second highest peak of Everest,do 5,5 360°,while this pokemon has exactly 64HP is holding a Brick(its a real item)and is frozen,at dusk in the game,on a Monday at 12:00 after you traded 36 times and is at level 70.
The reason Runereguis evolves when it evolves is to feel as mysterious and confusing as possible and feel very random while still making it happen at higher levels. It was definitely NOT intended to be searched up
Game Freak really screwed themselves with all these evolution methods. They feel like such short-sighted decisions. Just imagine all the things that need to be planned, designed, and programmed to make sure the newest game can include all Pokémon evolutions and all Pokémon forms. It's no wonder they started cutting out Pokémon, even if this is a problem of their own making.
Fun fact: The only trade evolutions that have yet to be caught fully evolved on any Switch title are Huntail and Gorebyss. They returned in BDSP but they can only be obtained by trade-evolving Clamperl with the correct held item. The only games were Huntail and Gorebyss can be caught fully evolved in the wild are via fishing in the Unova games and XY, or by SOS encounters woth wild Clamperl in USUM. So here’s hoping that they can be caught fully evolved in Legends Z-A since they could be caught in the original X and Y games.
Whats funny about the gen 8 and gen 9 requirements for some evo's, is that they eventually need to be changed, else they need to implement those methods in every game they appear in (Like how Leafeon/Glaceon got changed to Leaf Stone and Ice Stone in Galar due to lack of Mossy Rock and Icy Rock). The thing that i noticed is that they have gona completly away with gives us new Trade evo's since gen 7 (And yes, i know Alolan Golem is a thing, but thats not a new requirement for the line). While you can argue Finizen/Palafin is a trade evo, its really not, since you don't need to trade to get it, just join an union circle is enough. The most annyoing evo is indeed Galarian Yamask into Runerigus. However, i have a feeling it also will become a stone evo if it ever returns.
For the hisuian mons, i could see there presence being caused by the LITTERAL MALFUNCTIONING TIME MASHIN AND SPACE DISTORIONS FLINGING MODERN MON INTO THE PAST AND PAST MON INTO THE FUTURE
Anything is better than needing an external source to evolve or obtain a new Pokémon. I’ll gladly play through Sinnoh’s first two gyms with a Budew than speak to 30 people to get a Spiritomb. (Yes, I know there’s a cheat. Don’t @ me.)
You can get Psyshield Bash on Stantler in Scarlet & Violet. It's an egg move it can inherit from Wyrdeer. Wyrdeer can learn the movie via move reminder. However, the evolution is just blocked from happening. Interestingly, Wyrdeer is programmed to learn the move upon evolving from Stantler, even though it is impossible to evolve Stantler into Wyrdeer in Scarlet & Violet.
Another reason I like strangr evolutions is they all sound like a playground rumor like mew under the trunk but then you actually do them and there legit

yeah the "late bloomers" of gen 5 has been a huge curse they have stuck with, cause the level requirement for mienfoo, vullaby, rufflet, deino, pawniard and ESPECIALLY larvesta has only gotten worse with time, sure exp candies and the easier obtainability of rare candies help...but that means these 6 are just huge resource sinks

@@paulitics6931 well the ones i listed in Black and White can be gotten during the main story, but deino and larvesta are the only ones to not use due to how far in they are and how long it takes to evolve them especially
I love how some of the modern evolution methods sound like those playground rumors where you had to do the most convoluted things to get a super secret hidden pokemon
These “one Pokemon evolution items” need to be given more uses
Give them in-battle effects
Or use them to evolve future Pokemon
Don’t just leave them as “ah, the [pokemon] key to unlock it’s evolution”
I see that. Some items are kinda useless.
16:06 Probably because the Metal Alloy was introduced in Scarlet/Violet, a game that Meltan isn’t in.
Here's a fun idea for more chess piece Pokemon. Make Pawniard another Tyrogue.
At level 31, Pawniard evolves into:
- Bisharp if its Attack is higher
- Knight-based Pokemon (name pending) if its Speed is higher
- Nothing if its Defense is higher than both
At level 52, Pawniard will evolve into Fortrook (rook-based Pokemon) if its highest stat is Defense. It can still evolve into the other two. This is a reference to how rooks are higher valued than bishops or knights. If Bisharp's original evolution level is preserved, Fortrook's evolution becomes unlocked at level 86 instead.
The problem is that Pawniard's chess motif does not exist in Japan, so it would not make sense in the franchise's native country.
Friendship evolutions never bothered me, they were basically just lvl evolutions 2.0.
Yeah, raising friendship is not even that hard, and fainting and bitter medicinal herbs are the only way to reduce it.

@@TheMGSlow Those at least appear in the wild, and you could eventually get enough candy. I've caught about sixty shinies since Larvesta released, and haven't gotten a single one.
Evolving Feebas in ORAS is much easier to do. But in the OG Hoenn games is a pain to get Milotic.
Still a lot less tedious than finding a Feebas in the first place in my opinion

the funny thing with shelmet and karrablast is that they shed the armor and give it to the other in order to evolve at the same time, so their evolution method makes perfect sense. i like this little detail about those two.
In my opinion I think evolutions should have the mentality of “should be achievable unintentionally or via trial and error”
Levelling, Time of Day, Moves, and Friendship are the best examples for evolution methods able to be obtained unintentionally
Stone and item evolution can be trial and error’d but some item evolution items should be given more than “it can evolve one Pokemon” because at the moment it is a glorified key
Some evolutions I would change:
Tyrogue: evolve into hitmontop if speed is higher than attack and defence
Inkay: evolve after learning Switcheroo
Sliggoo: Rain set by Rain Dance or Drizzle will also trigger the evolution
White Stripe Basculin: use x number of recoil moves
G Yamask: full rework, just have it evolve via Dusk Stone or Rune item
Convoluted evolution methods are my favorites in pokemon. It’s way more fun then just leveling up
To be fair with the Meltan + Metal Alloy thing, I don’t think the line was ever made compatible SV, so they could make it evolve with the Metal Alloy down the line, it’s just a matter of “Will Niantic let them or will they throw a fit?”.
