Serperior does have arms though, they're those leaves at its sides. They're basicslly the same shape as Servine's. It just usually holds them behind its back. The legs did get amputated, though
And according to Ken Sugimori, it folding its hands back make it look regal, which is a nice design touch considering it's inspired from French royality.
I don’t understand why some people dislike Chandelure’s design. I think it looks cool and spooky! Plus, it’s an interesting concept for the first ever Ghost/Fire type.
@@THGMR-ox7sd I think it's one of the better object Pokemon. It looks spectral looking, imposing, and doesn't just look like a chandelier with a face on it.
Raichu is only disadvantaged because the anime led to promoting Pikuchu as the mascot, which led to a lot of power buffs for it to make up for it being inferior. Slaking pretty much gets shutdown by abilities like Protect, which is staggeringly bad. The rat one is funny because the very first time I saw that strategy, I untentionally destroyed it by happening to have one of the many counters for it out the gate and killed it before I even knew what it was supposed to do.
Slaking is still better than Vigoroth because One big hit on the opponent is generally a lot better than attempting to chip away the health. Sure Slaking gets walled by Protect (which is the most toxic BS move why can every pokemon learn it) but Slaking atleast can do some serious damage against the competition when it lands a hit where Vigoroth can hit but still accomplish nothing. Besides if you really want to maybe you can pull of the Mummy strat and override truant. Just give Slaking Pursuit so the opponent can't back out.
@@rayzuke1232Protect, protect variants, fly, and dig; when those downtimes aren't used to just setup more of course. Hell, one round of setup might make the difference in the match As for the mummy strat, lotta work just to make something actually be viable.
To this day, I still think not releasing AZ's Floette is the BIGGEST missed opportunity Gamefreak has made. It has a fantastic design, an incredible signature move (both in name and effect), and is literally the cornerstone to Kalos' lore. Being able to use it would've been the equivalent to being able to use the original dragon in Unova; a Pokemon only spoken of in legend, unseen by human eyes for centuries. With the strength to back it up too, THAT sounds like a legendary to me.
Agreed! I love X and Y and Floette is one of my favorite Pokemon. The AZ Floette would have been amazing. And it would have been so easy to give to the player in the story too. It comes back at the end. Have AZ give it to you as thanks or something like that. Or just do a special event. Either works.
I haven't watched this video yet but it's so weird. They even gave it a Pokédex entry in Pokémon SuMo and then made transferable to Pokémon Home (it doesn't have an icon though)... So they clearly still want to add the poor thing
Yeah it was too much, i agree with you man, not every pokemon should be that broken. Everything is not about how strong a pokemon is but also a big bounch of normal pokemons should exist even as legendary pokemon
@@Nobody-su9km Hence why I said “also had”. The reason why Murkrow was THE most used pokemon of Series 1 while every other prankster user didnt really find their place in the meta is because Murkrow was the only one with Tailwind. The dynamic speed update from Gen 8 makes Tailwind far and away the best thing you could be doing with Prankster
Funny Slaking story; When me and my old best friend battled Pokemon a lot in the old days, my Slaking was kind of a weird secret weapon. I outfitted it with Giga Impact, a Choice Band, and gave it Attack and Speed EVs, because my friend liked using one particular Mewtwo called "PsychoShocker". This was a scary Mewtwo that just seemed to cover every single type possible. It was kind of his ace - so, as soon as that one showed up, I'd bring in Slaking, who'd just launch the strongest Giga Impact possible. Whatever happened to Slaking afterwards, it didn't really matter. He'd more than done his part.
The question is, how many turns does slaking have to wait to attack again? If the recharge and the ability don't overlap, then he would have to wait 3 turns before attacking again
As one of the few who prefers Raichu to Pikachu, it deeply annoys me how the games incentivize you to NOT evolve Pikachu just because he’s the mascot. Yes, that’s THE reason. Gotta make sure they keep the face of Pokémon on their teams!
And the thing is that there was even a scrapped Raichu evolution in the old games, and we probably would’ve gotten it at some point by now if Gamefreak didn’t hate raichu so much.
Honestly, pikachu being the mascot and them plastering its face everywhere is part of the reason why i dislike it so much, even if it can be a decent choice for battle,i'm still going to refuse to use it
Dragonite honestly has nice design, but it's kind of sad that there's no version of it keeping the kind of elegant beauty dragonair had going, which would have been nice to see.
Fingers crossed for an eventual regional variant... Dragonair is the most elegant and arguably best looking looking gen 1 pokemon... The disapointing i had as a kid when seeing it turn into Dragonite still resonates with me to this day.
I'm so glad you mentioned Grovyle's role in Mystery Dungeon, he's the whole reason Grovyle became my favourite Pokemon until Gen 7 with Type: Null and Silvally
Raichu is a pokemon you respect in vgc, compared to Pikachu it is faster, bulkier and it doesn't need to sacrifice its items slot to be useful. Overall a consistently reliable support with decent damage
Except while you sacrifice a slot, Pikachu’s attack stats surpass Raichu’s max stats. Bulk doesn’t matter as one earthquake is going to one shot both of then.
@Ʀ Thats why you ran focus sash and endeavor. Fast enough to threaten non scarf pokemon, quick attack to finish off 1hp targets, and also can slot in electric coverage. It's main purpose is to take out those major bulky threats and let your own take over the game
7:06 I used this Aron strategy a lot back in the day. People eventually caught on and made the strategy useless, but it was still a good time while it lasted
In fairness to Raichu though, you'd definitely want to use it in Alola over Pikachu fairly often because of its additional Psychic typing. Also, I've never seen Shell Bell Aron before, but I have seen Berry Juice Recycle Aron, which is its own form of annoying. One more thing: to this day, I still think Florges' line should've been dual type Fairy/Grass. They learn a bunch of grass type moves and they have flowers as major parts of their designs. My first thought when I saw Flabebe was, "Oh, you must be grass/fairy, this will be good to add to my team to cover for my Fennekin since its final form is Fire/Psychic". I catch it, look at its dex entry and see it's mono fairy type and think "What the hell Gamefreak?"
I consider the Alolan Raichu to be a downgrade from Raichu. First off it's ability is Surge Surfer, which relies entirely on Electric Terrain. This comes at the loss of the Static or Lightning Rod, both of which are solid and will see way more use than Surge Surfer. Second, you gain two resistances against Fighting and Psychic at the cost of three weaknesses; Bug, Ghost, and Dark, and a possible loss of immunity against Electric.
Dragonair and Dragonite were made by two separate people, hence why they look so different. In Red & Green, the sprites were made before any artwork and people were just making sprites, then other devs and Ken Sugimori (the lead pokemon artist) tried to flesh them out. Same reason why Charmander lost its back spikes and Mew lost its head tube bump (similar to mewtwo's neck tube).
@@mori6434 on a lot of the early art and even some of the original toys charmander has a body shaped very similarly to cubone but with no mask and flames on the tail. This thing about Dragonite line having more than one artist I did not know though so that’s super interesting and explains a lot. I like Dragonite but I wish it’s design wasn’t getting goofier and goofier with each season. I liked it when it was more draconic in design and nature.
Dratini is dragon type. Dragonair is dragon type. Not all dragons have 2 legs and stand vertically. Dratini and Dragonair deserved a better third evolution. We need a coherent third evolution. We need a beautiful elegant dragon (blue, white or white-blue) as third evolution. Dragonite doesn't make sense on that line. Dragonite is a childrish version of Charizard, it should be a regional version of Charizard.
With Pikachu, you forgot to mention Raichu's superior defenses - Pikachu may have a higher attack stat, however it dies quickly to things like aqua jet, and Light Ball Pikachu can't also hold a focus sash, so…
This is using your head pretty much anything faster than that Pikachu that's actually competitive would murk Pikachu in one shot not enough spd or def and special def. Glad someone said this
Tbf Pikachu does get extreme speed which is priority 2. The real hard part is switching Pikachu in. Think it is better in doubles though(edit me being an idiot). Edit Wait raichu won world's wtf am I talking about. Well I don't really know doubles very well.
@@_Sinduss Extremespeed is a gen5 event only move, at least according to Serebii. Maybe that could sweep with a baton passed boost or something - but you still have ghosts to block you.
@@benjystrauss2524 singles tends to be played on a battle simulator (gen 8 time limit made 6v6 singles almost unplayable) so extreme speed would be available. I never said Pikachu was good it's just raichu is not good either. Now alolan raichu I would say is better due to being dual type. In the lower tiers light ball Pikachu should not need boosts to secure a faint and would function as a revenge killer. In gen 8 gmax could give Pikachu the bulk to withstand a hit and strike back for massive damage. Now gmax is gone in gen 9 raichu is probably better. Raichu is now apparently uu now so it is much better.
I actually really like Raichu in Double Battles/VGC. It's a nice support Pokémon, Fake Out, Encore maybe Helping Hand or Nuzzle. Fast Enough with maxed Speed, strong enough to do their thing. And honestly I like Raichu more design wise. It just looks so speedy and jumpy.
I like Raichu with lighting rod in a rain dance team (in double battles). It helps cover the electric weakness especially if you have a dual water/flying type like Pelliper
I do really like Raichu but it bothers me to no end that, unlike Pikachu and even Pichu, Raichu has no digits on its hands. Just useless nubs. I have similar beef with Ampharos despite it having a special place in my heart.
Speed is actually big in competitive, Raichu can use nasty plot and has access to focus blast for better coverage. I wish he got more buffs because I still have memories of evolving him and beating the champion with Thunder ⚡
As a fan of snakes i actually prefer Serperior over Servine, also Serperior does have arms they're just held to the back in a regal pose since Serperior has that regal look to it.
I don't think the Light Ball justifies Pikachu being better because Pikachu will be locked into holding 1 item, the Lightball. Having a Raichu that can hold any competitive item has way more value than a Pikachu w/Lighball who would get massacred if out sped by an opponent or hit by a priority move and die. Raichu also has an Alolan variant version with 2 excellent special stab in Electric/Psychic.
Alolan is better but base Raichu is not a Mon I'd consider on my team, not above lightball Pikachu anyway. That attack stat is too Stronk and it has p good speed as well. Combine with a powerful signature move like volt tackle, and then volt switch, iron tail. It's a powerful and versatile Mon that's gonna do something at the very least.
pikachu lives literally every priority move in the game aside STAB sucker punch and dnite and mega lucario espeed are rolls in pikachus favor. also pikachu and raichu are both terrible.
I have always agreed that Venusaur is much uglier lol. But that's a big contributing part to his aesthetic that makes him massive and intimidating. Sure Ivysaur is much cuter and I do happen to personally prefer his look, but that's not what necessarily goes into a good final evolution design.
I disagree with Mega Blaziken. I think the extra bulk on the mega makes it better in a lot of scenarios plus the extra speed helps it outspeed mons turn one that outspeed regular Blaziken. The issue is the opportunity cost. I would rather use another mega instead like Lucario.
Yep.Mega Blaziken either outspeeds turn 1, or outspeeds turn 2.Blaziken is slower turn one and can STILL be outsped turn 2, so I'd say mega is the better option.
@@Candyy248 no, if blaziken can already get OHKOed turn one then there's no point in having a mon. But for Mega-Blaziken, you can easily live two neutral hits and get a swords dance off and not get killed. Mega-Ken is broken, Blaziken is balanced. One strong hit won't take mega-blaziken out unless it's super effective.
About FEAR strats: back in the day in gen5 net battle I used the evolved forms of those pokemon. fo the simple fact that if one knows the FEAR strat and sees a rattata, aron or magnemite on the team preview he/she can choose best suited lead to counter it. BUT NO ONE EXPECTED THE FEAR STRAT BY SEEING A RATICATE, AGGRON OR MAGNETON/MAGNEZONE!!!
@@JulianCaesaro in NET battle, where everyone used level 100 you could set the level to 1, even the evolved forms. I dont know how it is now, but vs a LVL 100 a LVL 20 (or whatever the level it evolves) raticate works just as fine
@@JulianCaesaro raticate evolves early and there was a time mons werent just auto leveled to 50 or even 100. gen 5 also saw some competent raticates that were potential sweepers so it isnt weird to see it in that time.
I remember a while back when someone tried using a FEAR Rattata against me on Showdown... It didn't work against my level 100 Metagross holding Leftovers! Lol
Chansey also has a huge downgrade in its shiny when evolving. It is usually changed to make some parts green, but blissey shiny is just a slightly different pink that you barely notice
I have to disagree with Delphox, I'm probably one of the few people who like all the Kalos starters, wether design or performance, I really like the Fennekin line, Delphox has a witch-like yet elegant design and the pre-evos are really cute 🥰 Without counting the Mega stones, of all the fire starters Delphox hits the hardest on the special side 🦊🔥
Eviolite Gurdurr with Bulk Up, Drain Punch, and Guts has gotten me several sweeps. And I remember only sticking with him because I didn't have anyone to trade for Conkeldurr
@@Poket_gmr The best part is when my opponent underestimates me because Gurdurr isn't a 'high tier' pokemon...but then Gurdurr sets up and proceeds to sweep their team
Tbh I never really got the dislike for Serperior's design. Its the snake pokemon throughout, its second stage has smaller limbs preportional to its first stage, the arms are still there as well just smaller, etc. Like its all changes that make sense. Maybe its wierd as a kid but as an adult it makes more sense why the progression went like this
I think that’s the point though, it’s literally just a snake every time it evolves. Other starters go from cute to god killers and this boys just a snek.
I wish they wouldve done more for Serperior, the collars are just lazy. Wouldve been cool if it had the skin-flaps of a Cobra (I mean there is literally a King Cobra animal) but sadly those flaps went to Arbok first. Alright then, why not turn it into a hydra and getting more heads with each evolution? They couldve done better, the current form looks like a grass banana.
9:14 Servine doesn't lose its arms. Serperior has arms, they're just folded being it's back. You can see them just above the first yellow stripe on its body
Well, in this case, many of the pokemon you listed aren't actually worse, as they play differently. Porygon Z, for example, plays as a nuke, while Porygon 2 plays as a tank. Chansey plays as an eviolite wall, Blissey plays as a leftovers or heavy duty boots wall. Dusknoir plays as a tank, dusclops plays as a wall. The only exception is Blaziken and Garchomp, but even they have different play styles to their mega evolutions.
@@user-xr7pe9qn5m Different types of walls. The former uses eviolite but is countered by hazards, the latter uses boots and ignores hazards. Are you a competitive player? Because you should know that hazards are a huge part of a pokemon's viability if you are.
Honestly the bigger issue with chansey is with how rampant knock off is in comp scene. Without eviolite, chanseys become half the wall it is whereas with blissey it can still compensate with its higher stat base
Yeah even tho I rarely run knock off(because usually my teams are kinda meh tbh) I rarely see mons with eviolite, if anything I see Chanseys using leftovers. That being said I usually go for the second best option I had, obviosly when see something like Chansey/Blissey, Ho-oh, Giratina I know this mfs have toxic and want to stall you out so what I do is to switch to Lucario to take the toxic and depending who was the mon he was facing I switch to either Milotic for sacred flare if it was a Ho-oh, Mismagius against Giratina (very risky one) or stay use sword dance or just try to predict and switch and use any other of the moves I have with Lucario.
My issue with eviolite mons aside from dedicated walls is that Knock Off is ubiquitous, and losing your eviolite just leaves you with dead weight. On the topic of Rhyperior, I love slappin' him with a Weakness Policy, clicking Rock Polish, and just turning him loose.
In Gen 6 OU, I made an Explosion team that had an Onix in the back. It was basically the same strategy, except with significantly worse damage potential. I did actually manage to get it off with a Haxorus EQ, where my own EQ did 100%, and I exploded on the Umbreon the next turn. Most work Onixpected ever put in 😅
@@okayegg4597 The main thing is that Viggo doesn't insta-lose to Protect or _Fly_ lol. Slaking is a gimmick mon that's relegated to hitting hard as possible one turn, then giving the opponent time to either recover the damage, set up on him, or KO him back. Sure, he's got options like Taunt, Slack Off, etc., but none of that matters if the opponent can deal 50% in a single turn. Truant is genuinely just THAT bad an ability; losing half your turns is an _immense_ handicap, on par with Regigigas's Slow Start making it unable to deal damage. Viggo may be a wet noodle by comparison, but it can still move every turn, respond, and _do_ things to prolong itself. 80/80 isn't a terrible physical defense baseline, just mediocre, and Bulk Up + Slack Off + Eviolite help make that something decent. In addition, that Normal typing means only one type is hitting you super-effectively, which shouldn't be discounted as a defensive option (you can also Tera if it helps!). The base 55 SpDef is embarrassing, though, so maybe avoid special attackers like your life depends on it (because it does!). Base 80 Attack is pretty terrible on its own, but again, Bulk Up can help patch that into a workable state, and Return/Drain Punch + Knock Off is an okay attacking combination. With the proper opponent on the other side of the field, a Bulk Up + Slack Off set can put in work, even if it's middling at best. At the end of the day, both of these Pokémon are in the lowest of the low competitive tiers. They've got very few redeeming qualities, and that's important to keep in mind when thinking, "how can [X] be worse than [Y]?" Nobody uses them for a reason, and it becomes clear why when you try to do so.
Am I the only one who prefers Kadabra's desing over Alakazam? I think the tail, having just one spoon, the ears's shape and the red marks on his body are awesome
Dragonair is gorgeous, but I can understand the direction GF went with Dragonite. There was a metamorphosis theme going on with the earliest gen reptilian pseudo-legendaries (Dragonite, Tyranitar and Salamence). In lots of gens, there's an early bug type with a middle stage that's wildly different from the other stages (or only the third stage). These bug types teach the player the concept of evolution, and it's repeated all over with the pseudo-legendary. Dusknoir and Electivire started out as worse than their pre-evolutions, but later the low stats of their pre-evolutions caught up with them. It's more like the second stages got worse than the third stages got better, though Dusknoir got Poltergeist. Honchkrow is also strictly worse than Murkrow in doubles, because it loses Prankster and a bit of speed.
Dragonair has such a beautiful design for me, some games I will not let it evolve, especially if I have a dragonite in another game I can easily trade in
Except those others still track. I love tyranitar for instance because it's what you expected from larvitar coming out of a cocoon. Its just a bigger larvitar. At most you might have expected a butterfly situation. The problem with dragonite is that it comes out of nowhere. 2 evolutions leading to a water serpent design and bam, chubby Charizard. It's not even blue! You can do a big change with something like magicarp because the goal is to see if it becomes something better and it does with one evolution. Just like feebas later. They work because of that. All the bug types follow known styles of evolution too. Going dratini into dragonite woulda been less confusing than going dratini dragonair and then changing it up entirely.
I just hate that shiny Dratini and Dragonair both have a pretty pink shiny, which I like, and then not only does Dragonite look completely different, it also has a really ugly dark green and purple. I'll never evolve my shiny Dragonair
Dragonair's line is actually based off of this one myth; it's from somewhere in Asia, where exactly escapes me, but it goes something like this: there are both sea dragons and true dragons. If a sea dragon catches a dragon orb, it becomes a true dragon and gains the power of flight and all the typical dragony stuff. Dratini's line is based off of this; Dratini is a sea dragon (typically represented as more serpentine) then Dragonair is a sea dragon catching a pearl, then dragonite has a big design shift towards being more of a middle eastern dragon, thus becoming a "true" dragon. Now, True dragons actually look like what most people think of when they hear "Chinese dragon". I don't know why they went with shifting over to a middle eastern dragon, but they did.
Never thought of it like that. But as a Dragonair fan, I'm still upset what it turns into. The only Dragonite I would want is the Kaiju sized one from the Bill's Lighthouse in the anime.
The Serperior evolutionary line is actually super cool design wise if you think about it. It’s based on a snake or serpent and in evolutionary biology, it is thought that snakes used to have limbs (through fossil records and their vestigial legs seen today from their bone structure). So as it evolves, it’s legs becomes more and more reduced until they’re gone.
Honestly I’ve been having fun with a Klang evolvite set- Grind gear, gear shift, wild charge and charge with Max HP Split Def and spdef, granted it’s not perfect and there might be better ways to use it but when I set it up right its a beauty
I think boosting defense and special defense would be better since that's specifically the reason why I evolved my Pikachu. I cannot name all the times that my Raichu survived on one HP and swept the opponent.
Not entirely. If the light ball were to function as to double the defenses then it would be more viable and leave Raichu as a more bulky option. It's be like a sort of balanced pokemon like Mew and would leave Nintendo's pokemon mascot alone. They will never give the light ball's attacks boost to Raichu, let's faces that.
I think if the Light Ball was to work on Raichu then it should work the same, since it'd be weird for an item to do different things depending on what Pokemon held it; outside of things like Black Sludge. Still, it'd give Raichu more variety since he can already be a bulky support, and that there are better offensive electric types to use competitively, so it'd make Raichu more meta.
Pikachu may be a powerhouse with the Light Ball but that Light Ball is also its biggest weakness cause it can't hold anything else - still giving Raichu more of a pratical use. If Pikachu was abit faster though, it could abuse Encore Shenanigans and roast people. I wish it had just abit more speed honestly so it had more use in an OU battle with its impressive moveset.
I prefer Haunter to Gangar. I like how Gastly and Haunter float in the air, and Haunter having detached hands is really cool. So Gangar not only having attached limbs, but he also no longer floating is a huge down grade.
Another important factor into not evolving in addition to Eviolite is the move foul play, where you intentionally want to tank its attack stat so it takes less damage when the move is used on you. Since you don't really care if you are attacking with it and just using the pokemon with support moves.
My favored FEAR strat is Aron, holding a Shell Bell since it gets Sturdy and with Sandstorm. Doesn't work on rock, ground, or steel types, but it also probably won't work on a prepared opponent, so.
I'm reminded of the good old missingno glitch from gen 1. I had the good fortune of being able to catch level 165 Squirtles. Then when they gained EXP, they would go to level 100 and evolve into Wartortle. Some of the Missingno-ish Pokemon would have their levels fly all over the place, or evolve into Kangashkahn. Fun times.
I honestly have some issues with Gengar's appearance, both Ghastly and Haunter have cool and interesting designs for a ghost pokemon, but then it evolves into a ball with short legs and arms, and looks so goofy
I use to absolutely despise rhyperior. rhydon I still feel is better looking overall, but I grew to like rhyperior better because it was that pokemon that I finally caught in Sword on Isle of Armor that allowed me to help beat zeraora when the raid challenges were happening.
I love Rhyperior but do believe Rhydon can outdo him in battle. I ran Solid Rock Rhyperior with an Assault Vest and special defense investment in Sand to take water and grass attacks better. For me it can take at least three before going down which was insane for being 4x weak to those moves. He was fun to battle with and took many by surprise.
@@NotBlackWolf @speedyav46 even with eviolite, rhyperior is just overall the better option. The only prevos that were ever genuinely better than their evos were chansey and dusclops, and both fell off hard with the knock off boost gen 5-gen 6. Even then Chansey was arguably better but that completely went away with Heavy Duty Boots. Rhyperior/Rhydon is nothing like that, Solid Rock + leftovers alone make Rhyperior last far longer in a match, not to mention it has more options with its ability to change items, such as a wallbreaker with a band. Not to mention Weakness Policy which is far more common in monotype. As someone who's played competitive since gen 5, Rhyperior is defs better, and even Gen 5 when eviolite mons were at their peak with Dusclops quite literally being in a hier tier than Dusknoir, Rhydon was still way outclassed by Rhyperior
@@nighttimeasbestos5958 Try eviolite Rhydon with lighting rod in doubles as a support and get back to me. More viable than Rhyperior in singles. Great bulk, damage, and is nasty on the switch in. I run it with a moxie Gyarados.
@@NotBlackWolf Oh not a doubles player, can't speak for that, in singles Rhyperior just flatout outclasses it though, even when NFE mons were at its peak in gen 5 Rhyperior was a better mon, and is currently still a solid pick for Ru/UU/is a higher tier mon for Mono Rock builds. The only poke that currently outclasses it's evo is gcorsola
There are also a few examples in the anime: Charmander evolving and not listening at all, and Ash’s Turtwig notoriously did really well in battle until it evolved and basically lost almost every battle
Bayleef, Dewott, and Torracat should also make the list. Dewott is a prime example of why it’s not the problem of being bipedal, it’s the problem of having a theme and then completely upending the design when it evolves.
@@HAROINOIR2077 I would have liked it if Oshawott and Dewott had looked anything like it, but in the context of the first two stages, Samurott’s design is completely out of left field. It could have been an awesome design if it were a completely separate evolutionary line, but as it stands now, I can only think about what could have been if they had continued with the Oshawott Dewott design whenever I look at Samurott.
imo the Sprigatito and Quaxly lines are two examples of bipedal/humanoid design done right, and Skeledirge would look much better being bipedal à la Typhlosion imo
actually it's always up for debate if chansey is better then blissey, however in singles, blissey is preferred because heavy-duty boots exist, where as chansey is deathly afraid of knock off
Yeah. Blissey and Chansey were both in OU in Gen 5 IIRC, but Chansey was in OU over Blissey for Gens 6 and 7. Gen 8, positions switched due to what you said about HDB. It helped a lot with avoiding hazards.
@@danielmaynard239 that makes sense, it's just that Knock Off is one of those attack's thats used for its strong utility rather then damage. cause when it comes to attacks that deal damage they fall into 1 of 2 camps: damage dealing or utility
I actually quite like how Skwovet evolves into Greedent. While he may be ugly, it makes sense the one that loves eating became a chonky boi! I imagine if Munchlax was introduced at the same time as Snorlax, and Snorlax wasn't such a good Pokémon stat-wise, people would say Snorlax would be a downgrade for cute little Munchlax
I actually use Yamask over Cofagrigus because you can do a different sort of FEAR strat that can't be countered by Mega Rayquaza's Extreme Speed. That is, to use focus sash with Trick Room and Destiny Bond.
Raichu isn’t the mascot so it’s just like all the other pokemon aside from Pikachu. It doesn’t deserve any more respect than any other pokemon and you being biased is the only reason you think it deserves anything special.
For the most part, Pokemon that evolve with a stone lose out on their learnset by leveling up. (At least earlier on, I only played through gen 5.) There are some Pokemon that still learn moves as they level, and some Pokemon were changed so that moves are treated as learned at level 1 so they can be taught by the move rememberer. At least in gen 5 (and presumably after) TMs are no longer consumables like they were in gens 1-4
I really like Rhydon’s design and it does look complete. I didn’t hate the idea of it evolving though. When I saw Rhyoerior I was sadly disappointed. It loses so much of what made it a good design in exchange for being an overweight (American) football player who should probably be a linemen but instead wants to be QB launching Geodude across the field (which admittedly is hilarious 🤣). The stats are much better though and I’ve enjoyed using it recently so I can’t complain TOO much haha.
Can you explain why you like Rhyperior? I genuinely want to know. I look at this boi and I can't find positives. A lot of Pokemon I used to hate I've gotten over. But I can't get past Rhyperior. In general making a mon fatter makes it look worse. And they added all those plates that could have looked cool if they went for an armor style or sum, but instead gave him a safety vest and helmet that almost make him look like bad portrayals of special ed kids. Like.... Please, help me see the light. I don't wanna see him this way, it's so bad.
@@MissOnana Warning: long answer from a Rhyperior lover lmao. (TL:DR Rhyperior is bulky, menacing, has a magma aesthetic and can shoot them molten rocks from his arm-cannons, which is really heckin cool :D). Rhyperior has always been in my top of favourites mon designs. His color scheme is amazing, the grey and orange mix very well together, and gives off this magma/molten rock vibes. Design wise. To me it seems like Rhyperior is shaped like a mole, that uses its horn to help him excavate through the ground. These light design inspirations help to settle in his overall "molten magma slinger" aesthetic, since moles are underground just like magma lol. Then we have the cannons on its hands. They clearly are there to imply that the mon can shoot out magma and what not out of his body (which is really heckin cool :D). Also, the plaques on his body seems to have a "security vest" type of vibe, which makes me believe that they choose this pattern since it looks like a demolitions expert, which fits the whole aesthetic of "magma slinging pokemon". Even his helmet thingy, to me, looks more like a pair of noise cancellation headphones that are used by demolitions experts. Last but not least, his bulky size combined with his molten magma aesthetic and menacing look (which is enhanced by that horn) makes him look so terrifying (which is really heckin cool :D). I also might be biased since it looked so menacing and cool in the anime lol.

Agree with the Shiny Tyrogue. Also one that fits in here what I found when doing a Cute Charm run in Platinum: Snorunt. Snorunt's Shiny is beautiful, while Glalie and Froslass don't have that much going on
Well, Mega Blaziken does enter the 100 speed cap, which is a pretty important thing (as seen with Garchomp). One turn waited with a speed boost Blaziken (via protect or something) and Mega can outspeed and have more power behind it's attacks.

Agreed - due to clefable's excellence in singles however, i'd say murkrow is an even better example, since its prankster shenanigans can be a real threat whereas when have you ever seen honchkrow do anything?
Serperior doesn't lose it's arms, it just puts it's arm behind it. Also Delphox is pretty good honestly...I still think it's overhated. And Quilladin isn't honestly that bad, it's a pretty good portrayal of how awkward puberty can be.
Quilladin also kind of looks like a cocoon, fitting for a middle stage. It also looks like it's in the process of bulking up, that's the vibe I get at least.
Why exactly did we need a pretty good portrayal of how awkward puberty can be on a pokemon? Not on random NPC you see once and forget about, not even on random pokemon you can catch on your journey if you like, but as middle form of your starter, a pokemon you're supposed to walk the journey towards the top with. This is a perfect example of "if you can, doesn't mean you should".
Servine doesn't lose its arms when it evolves. The art just shows Serperior with its arms held behind its back like the classic pose of old folks walking through museums
I disagree on blaziken getting worse to evolve, the pwoer you get from evolving, the higher speed, and the unreliability of focus sash just make it not worth to use especially when that means you are unable to use flare blitz at all since it breaks the dash and mega blaziken is overall way way more powerful even then something blaziken wants in its all or nothing style
11:07 it doesn't get worse as it evolves it only goes down hill at garchomp. I wouldn't mind if they made the orange/red on gabite yellow like what they did with gable but I like gabite's shiny a lot (and of course gible's shiny)
Sableye and Mega Sableye are interesting, because your opponent could not know which it was going to be. The strategy to beat Sableye backfires against Mega Sableye, and the strategy to beat Mega Sableye. And once people get complacent and think that okay, they're dealing with normal Sableye.. that's when you evolve it.

Funny Slaking story;
When me and my old best friend battled Pokemon a lot in the old days, my Slaking was kind of a weird secret weapon.

Same here. The fact that all the Pikachu clones don’t evolve really tells me they regret Raichu and wish Pikachu didn’t evolve.
Raichu also has an alolan form and a free item slot so if you use the correct item it will be way stronger than a puny Pikachu

I consider the Alolan Raichu to be a downgrade from Raichu. First off it's ability is Surge Surfer, which relies entirely on Electric Terrain. This comes at the loss of the Static or Lightning Rod, both of which are solid and will see way more use than Surge Surfer.

Dragonair and Dragonite were made by two separate people, hence why they look so different.

@@guy-rk1jj
That, too, is correct.
But there are better nukes than pory z
My issue with eviolite mons aside from dedicated walls is that Knock Off is ubiquitous, and losing your eviolite just leaves you with dead weight. On the topic of Rhyperior, I love slappin' him with a Weakness Policy, clicking Rock Polish, and just turning him loose.
Yess! Used it in gen 6 OU with a max def max hp build with rock polish, eq, stone edge and fire punch. Amazing mon!

I did actually manage to get it off with a Haxorus EQ, where my own EQ did 100%, and I exploded on the Umbreon the next turn. Most work Onixpected ever put in 😅
Rhyperior is just objectively way better yeah.
I think the tail, having just one spoon, the ears's shape and the red marks on his body are awesome
serperior actually has arms it’s behind its back like a king
Shiny rapidash is another one they kinda dropped the ball on. I think they were going for hazy smoke with it instead but it didn't really work.
Nah, looks more like the wanted to make Rapidash a demonic horse.
Thanks!
So as it evolves, it’s legs becomes more and more reduced until they’re gone.
enjoyed this video, the calm voice and random wtf moments really made it stand out lol

I see you're a Ben 10 fan. Same here.
Raichu gets the shaft so much. Raichu to this day remains my favorite pokemon
Raichu isn't my favorite (Mewtwo is). But he's definitely in the top 10.
I would have included Fidough too, we all knew his design was too cute to be improved on.
The Raichu buff is easy to fix just allow the light ball when held by Raichu it doubles only it's speed and special stats
I think boosting defense and special defense would be better since that's specifically the reason why I evolved my Pikachu. I cannot name all the times that my Raichu survived on one HP and swept the opponent.
Light ball has no effect on Raichu, so its attack stats are sadly, unchanged.
@@yellowkiwi5773 competitively that would suck.
Just make sure that the light ball works with all pilachu line
Do a "50 new moves for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet"
Yes
Just no jumpscares, please.
I liked Grovyle's design so much as a kid I would even evolve it. Great analysis
serperior just has its arms folded on the back, it still has them
I prefer Haunter to Gangar. I like how Gastly and Haunter float in the air, and Haunter having detached hands is really cool. So Gangar not only having attached limbs, but he also no longer floating is a huge down grade.
I was about to post about Haunter as well. Also I adore Murkrow; but I don't care for the evolution they gave him.
thank you
Absolutely. Gengar is alright.. I like the design.. but Gastly Haunter are among the best gen 1 designs.
And the fact gengar gets the ability levitate despite clearly having feet on the ground annoys me to no end
I was always reluctant to evolve Haunter growing up. I liked the design much better.
Another important factor into not evolving in addition to Eviolite is the move foul play, where you intentionally want to tank its attack stat so it takes less damage when the move is used on you. Since you don't really care if you are attacking with it and just using the pokemon with support moves.
Imagine a world where Feraligatr kept Croconaw's caveman motif...
Eviolite Rhydon > Rhyperior
Dewott is a prime example of why it’s not the problem of being bipedal, it’s the problem of having a theme and then completely upending the design when it evolves.
ngl samurott it's cool actually
@@HAROINOIR2077 I would have liked it if Oshawott and Dewott had looked anything like it, but in the context of the first two stages, Samurott’s design is completely out of left field. It could have been an awesome design if it were a completely separate evolutionary line, but as it stands now, I can only think about what could have been if they had continued with the Oshawott Dewott design whenever I look at Samurott.
imo the Sprigatito and Quaxly lines are two examples of bipedal/humanoid design done right, and Skeledirge would look much better being bipedal à la Typhlosion imo
@@shinken6636 what
Hisuian Samurott looks freaking great though
Personally I like how bulky Rhyperior is but I have 3 issues:
1) the holes on it
2) its colors compared to Rhydon
3) it looks bald compared to Rhydon
The holes are there because it launches rocks out of them.
And where are the ears?
tha design is garbage
actually it's always up for debate if chansey is better then blissey, however in singles, blissey is preferred because heavy-duty boots exist, where as chansey is deathly afraid of knock off
Yeah. Blissey and Chansey were both in OU in Gen 5 IIRC, but Chansey was in OU over Blissey for Gens 6 and 7. Gen 8, positions switched due to what you said about HDB. It helped a lot with avoiding hazards.

Since I don't play online battles in Pokemon right now, I prefer stronger Dark moves, like Crunch, Throat Chop, Darkest Lariat, Sucker Punch, etc.
@@danielmaynard239 that makes sense, it's just that Knock Off is one of those attack's thats used for its strong utility rather then damage.
cause when it comes to attacks that deal damage they fall into 1 of 2 camps:

@@meticakolli1237 Oh shoot, you right.

Yeah, I'm sure that Delphox having a worse design is why Braixen is more popular. No other reason. No sirree.
Give slaking an ability which puts it to sleep forcing it to use sleep talk
I actually like rhyperior's design just think it looks like a giant bulky monster like Tyranitar or aggron

honestly he looks like a fat guy. and what about the holes on his hands? looks like someone crucified him, lol
Yes
I may not love Rhyperior, but Rhydon is lame. I don't get why people like it.
And it has a good ability too that weakens super effective attacks
Read the title. Immediately thought of dewott to Samurot
Unpopular opinion. But Delphox is pretty cool. Got a real Wiccan aesthetic.
I really wish they would give Raichu the respect it deserves
Well it did, back in Alola that is

For the most part, Pokemon that evolve with a stone lose out on their learnset by leveling up. (At least earlier on, I only played through gen 5.)
There are some Pokemon that still learn moves as they level, and some Pokemon were changed so that moves are treated as learned at level 1 so they can be taught by the move rememberer.
At least in gen 5 (and presumably after) TMs are no longer consumables like they were in gens 1-4
I actually love the designs of Delphox and Rhyperior. Rhyperior being also one of my favorite rock types ever created (after Tyranitar)
@@jackk.4670 Thank you so much! I think I can kinda see some of those points. It's probably never gonna be a winner in my books, but it's nice to be able to see some of it's better qualities like this.
I love the design on Delphox but idk I just didn't like the design on Rhyperior. I understand why someone might like it but it's less aesthetic than Rhydon to me at least. The eyebrows are a little much and the plates imo.
Agree with the Shiny Tyrogue. Also one that fits in here what I found when doing a Cute Charm run in Platinum: Snorunt. Snorunt's Shiny is beautiful, while Glalie and Froslass don't have that much going on
In a double battle, if another Pokemon uses Gastro Acid on Slaking it'll lose the effects of its Truant ability...
Yes but that's still a pretty bad strategy.
Well, Mega Blaziken does enter the 100 speed cap, which is a pretty important thing (as seen with Garchomp). One turn waited with a speed boost Blaziken (via protect or something) and Mega can outspeed and have more power behind it's attacks.
life orbing instead of sashing the blaziken actually gives it a higher damage output than the mega...tho beware of extra recoil
The guy who made this video is just spouting BS, he knows nothing about comp lol
@@itsnoteasybeinggreen7076 I got clickbaited from the thumbnail, and got really pissed that his list is pretty much bullshit. He knows nothing about pvp
Although Mega-Garchomp is out-classed, it at least got Scale Shot to make up for its speed in Gen. 8
NatDex specifically
Mega Blaziken was so powerful it was banned almost instantly on Smogon…
You could have also mentioned abilities for example clefairy has friend guard while clefable doesnt so clefairy is used more in competititve as support
@@rjs4176 Yeah that is true actually.
Yeah I agree.
While I don't particularly like Delphox, I will agree that it's overhated, and I personally think it's design is pretty cool looking
Quilladin is cool
Why exactly did we need a pretty good portrayal of how awkward puberty can be on a pokemon? Not on random NPC you see once and forget about, not even on random pokemon you can catch on your journey if you like, but as middle form of your starter, a pokemon you're supposed to walk the journey towards the top with. This is a perfect example of "if you can, doesn't mean you should".
Servine doesn't lose its arms when it evolves. The art just shows Serperior with its arms held behind its back like the classic pose of old folks walking through museums
I ALWAYS used Aron when I played around with the FEAR strategy.. Not being able to be poisoned or paralyzed was big for me
I disagree on blaziken getting worse to evolve, the pwoer you get from evolving, the higher speed, and the unreliability of focus sash just make it not worth to use especially when that means you are unable to use flare blitz at all since it breaks the dash and mega blaziken is overall way way more powerful even then something blaziken wants in its all or nothing style
This was very informative for somebody that’s been outta the game for years thank you
I am that person that loves dragonir, and wishes she got another evolution.
11:07 it doesn't get worse as it evolves it only goes down hill at garchomp.
I wouldn't mind if they made the orange/red on gabite yellow like what they did with gable but I like gabite's shiny a lot (and of course gible's shiny)
I unironcally like Garchomp's shiny.
True
Sableye and Mega Sableye are interesting, because your opponent could not know which it was going to be. The strategy to beat Sableye backfires against Mega Sableye, and the strategy to beat Mega Sableye. And once people get complacent and think that okay, they're dealing with normal Sableye.. that's when you evolve it.
I can't believe you didn't mention shiny Blissey!
I just caught a shiny Chansey during the Pokemon Go February event, and I was pissed after I evolved it and saw what it looked like!
