      Spit up is particularly powerful depending on the charge of stockpile.
      1 stockpile is 100
      2 stockpile is 200
      3 stockpile is 300.
      Granted, this would NEVER work in a comp setting but it has some interesting use cases in nuzlockes.
      Alternatively the HP regain on swallow is the following
      1 stockpile is 25% hp
      2 stockpile is 50%
      3 stockpile is 100%
      Again, using half of your move slots for a gimmick is not likely to work… nor would any of its users be capable of getting a benefit in a comp setting.
      But it’s one of the goofiest moves and a favorite of mine.

      @@joshuakim5240If you're spamming a defense-stat boosting move, you want some way to turn that into offense. Otherwise you're a sitting duck that's going to get crit and die. That's why moves like Cosmic Power and Iron Defense are only ever really used with Stored Power or Body Press-- you pretty much never see them on their own. So you'd need your Stockpile user to have one of those moves to be relevant at all-- not to mention it only stacks three times, and thus is outclassed by other defensive stat-boosting moves. So I'd say it's not a very good defensive move at all

    In slight defense of Round: Wolfe Glick and Alpharad made a fun gimmick team in gen 8 based on Round because not only does the second Round increase in power, but the user of the second Round also gets to move with the speed of the first Round user. Meaning you can use a fast pokemon like Accelgor to Round and then have a Strong but slow Pokemon like Porygon Z follow it up immediately after giving it "pseudo-priority" and a powerful stab adaptability boosted 120BP Special move. Obviously this is still a gimmick, but it's funny and can actually catch some people by surprise in an online ladder environment (not in actual tournaments of course, especially not with Open Team Sheets).

      Pokémon XD (developed by Genius Sonority) will also use this combo at the end of Orre Colosseum Round 5 with Hyper Beam and "starter clones", with Gonzap's team turning the entire strategy against you (notably he has a Choice Band Slaking packing a still physical Hyper Beam with nearly no drawback).
      This quirk of Roar bypassing the charge turns is also needed earlier to win a Battle CD (you have two Slaking, eight turns to end battle but the opponent will always use Protect on odd turns. You must use Exploud's Roar to swap the Slaking so that you can attack in the even turns).

    i don't get why there was such a massive section to say "hyper beam bad" because yeah, we all know that already. the point was about giga impact + truant, which, like you actually said, is actually a thing slaking uses because when you're using slaking you might as well go all in. there was a mention of truant durant, too, which didn't even exist in gen 4. it just felt like a massive chunk of the video dedicated to dunking on what was seemingly a typo that swapped the loafing turn and the attacking turn

      @@minerturtle45 Hyper Beam before Gen 4 was a normal physical move, which was actually a strategy for Slaking in Gen 3, as paired with a choice band you have a stab base 150 move that Slaking can fire off it's much higher physical attack. Think of it like explosion but you dont immediately die.
      The Giga Impact strategy seems to replace that in Gen 4, because what wasnt mentioned was that Giga Impact's recharge is cancelled out by truant, meaning you only lose 1 turn as opposed to two as FSG mentioned.

    • @LordPhilipJFry
      @LordPhilipJFry 2 години тому +5

      Giga Impact is a bad idea on Slaking because you can't switch during the recharge turn and optimal Slaking play involves switching it in, using one attack, and then immediately switching back out the following turn. If you check the Smogon analyses for Slaking, not a single one includes Giga Impact. In fact, they all mention Giga Impact in the "Other Options" section as something that should *never be used on Slaking* because of how bad it is.

    According to Bulbapedia, the recharge of Giga Impact happens on the same turn as the "loafing around" of Truant, so in theory, if you have a Slaking, and it's going to loaf around anyway, the idea is to use Giga Impact for the 150 STAB attack, loaf around, and then use it again since it's recharge was handled during the truant phase.
    Silly, but if you had a choice banded Slaking anyway, firing off a boosted STAB Giga Impact off Slaking's higher physical attack stat would be like getting an Explosion in without dying.

    • @Sonicracer100
      @Sonicracer100 2 години тому +4

      It's not ideal, as you can't switch which means you're literally helpless. It's not a workaround, even though it's def a fun nuke.
      Because you can't switch due to being helpless, I can buff, switch to a pokemon with a counter strat, which is something the recharge turn just makes you deal with. If you just had the Truant turn, you could be proactive and switch to maybe get an advantageous match up.

    • @andrew1435
      @andrew1435 2 години тому +2

      Problem is even if you manage to get a KO, 99% of the time you're going to get KO'd by whatever switches in after anyway. That's the best case scenario. Worst case scenario, you get heavily exploited via setup. For example, a Dragonite switches in after and gets a free DD. If you had gone double-edge instead, the DD would still be free but at least you could switch to a counter while they are using it.

    • @breloommaster12
      @breloommaster12 2 години тому +2

      It would actually be preferable if Slaking did just die on that turn since it wouldn't be exploited on the next one.
      To that end, I actually believe *DOUBLE-EDGE* to be the superior 'final attack' from a low health Banded Slaking, since dying to recoil at the same time as KOing your target would be ideal as compared to Giga Impacting and completely exposing yourself afterwards

    • @BarelySocial
      @BarelySocial 2 години тому +1

      5:42, They already pointed it out in the video, but they talked about multiple problems with this strat. One of them was that the guide used the language of "Slack off for one turn and then hit with Giga Impact" which implies that the Pokemon uses Truant FIRST before using Giga Impact. Not only that, but it just says "Truant+Giga Impact" which implies that it isn't solely for Slacking. Lastly, by using Giga Impact it prevents the Pokemon from switching out the next turn. If it was Truant alone, you could at least swap out on the Truant turn, but Giga Impact locks your truant Pokemon in. The guide describes it as a combo, but the combo itself both "relies" on using a bad ability and introduces even more risk to the Pokemon using it.
      Edit: Just realized that the guide book was for gen 3, so my points are now somewhat invalid.

Not only don't you get any boost, but Critting on the next move is lower damage than the boost since the move was introduced when critical was already nerfed to only a 50% boost. I guess at least you can use it for all attacks, and you can use it when the opponent has buffed defenses already, but I think even then there are better ways to waste your turn.

A feature of Round that wasn't mentioned is that the second, slower Round goes off immediately, regardless of the user's speed. That type-changed Round would go off much faster than it has any right to.

    One thing I will say about Round, and maybe it’s been said already, is that it does do something interesting that is similar to the pledge moves - because Round instantly calls the next Pokémon’s Round, it bypasses the slower Pokémon’s speed stat - but it doesn’t only count as one attack, it still maintains the two-attack status that pledge moves lose. WeedleTwineedle showcased some of the move’s potential when combined with Sylveon’s and Primarina’s Pixillate and Liquid Voice, respectively, back in the SWSH era of VGC. But beyond that, yeah, the move is still incredibly gimmicky, and if GameFreak could implement changes to make it combine with the Pokémon’s preferred stab types naturally without relying on specific abilities would be awesome.

You tank a hit and charge your next Electric move, just without the SpDef boost. The difference is that 1) Bellibolt can learn Charge (and Charge Beam even!) on top of Elctromorphosis, and the two effects stack. And 2) Bellibolt is actually bulky enough to manage to take that one hit it needs, which isn't something every user of Charge can claim (Plusle and Minun rise to mind, primarily).

    Honorable Mention, albeit idk if it fully fits here: Fusion Flare & Fusion Bolt gaining power after the other is used. If only because Reshiram & Zekrom not only have better moves to use, including upgraded versions in almost every way in Blue Flare and Bolt Strike, but also cus Reshiram & Zekrom aren't going to really click those moves if they happen to face one another in singles, and in doubles they don't work particularly well together either.

    Failed signature moves exist. Barrage and Kinesis are obvious, but no one uses Darkest Lariat or Sparkling Aria. While Swampert can use Muddy Water and Blaziken can use Blaze Kick, Leaf Blade no longer synergies with Sceptile after Gen 3. Same with the Unova starter, except not even in Gen 5 was Serperior using Leaf Tornado. And Rillaboom got better in kind of a bad way, as Grassy Glide made Drum Beating useless.

    • @breloommaster12
      @breloommaster12 Годину тому +2

      @@juanca2567 Darkest Lariat was used as coverage when it was still a Gen 8 TM.
      Sparkling Aria actually has a niche on specific Primarinas; since Sparkling Aria is a sound move, it basically fulfills the same function as "Liquid Hyper Voice" except you still get to keep Torrent. And no, the "downside" of healing the opponent's burn is irrelevant because:
      1) you could just use a team that doesn't try to inflict burn on the enemy
      2) even if the opponent does have a burned Pokémon, chances are they'd rather stay burned than eat a 90 BP STAB move from Primarina just to remove it.

    • @juanca2567
      @juanca2567 Годину тому +2

      Okay, Primarina has that, but generation 8 was proof that Darkest Lariat was a failed signature move and just gave it up to other Pokemon as a TR. At least Mystical Fire had some uses for Delphox in Gen 7 before it became general move pool coverage, and even then it was because Delphox wasn’t in Sword and Shield.

    Charge’s only good use is in raids, and probably only Tera Raids with Miraidon… where you’re often bringing Miraidon because you want to cheese the boss with a 1 shot without giving it the chance to notice it’s in danger, you don’t set off the triggers for stat wipes or shield activation (these triggers are time or boss hp based). You stack some metal sound drops, use them to activate Throat Spray, put up a Charge, and suddenly it’s reasonable for Miraidon to be hitting the 20x-40x HP the Electric-Weak Boss may have

      In fact, the downside can be made an upside when used as a "final attack used at low HP", since if you manage to recoil KO yourself on the same turn as your opponent, that's waaaay better than Giga Impact KOing something and leaving yourself completely exposed on the next turn.

    How I’d buff each type of situation:
    -Hyper Beam/Giga Impact would have their charge period removed if a KO is obtained
    -Charge would be either a bulk up or calm mind boost based on the Pokémon’s physical and special while also boosting electric moves
    -Belch would usable for up to 3 times, making it not a one and nuke attack
    -Round would have a built in taunt and torment, shutting down stall

    The thing that makes Belch bad isn't the move itself, imo. If anything, I think the move itself could be run quite well. The only problem is control.
    Berries, unlike most items in the game, have a very significant flaw, in that they are almost reactively activated, not proactively activated. You have to be hit into a Berry's use range more often than not, and those that don't do this are often extremely committal, like Sub + Petaya/Salac, or Belly Drum + Sitrus.
    If there was a way for the berry-user to forcibly activate their own berry's consumption, then I think Belch would become much better as a move.
    Say, for example, that a new setup move is added that boosts attack and special attack by 2 stages, but paralyzes the user. By adding a lum berry, you would have a way to activate your own Belch without the need to be statused by an opponent, and the move would become much more usable as a result.
    It's not as if there aren't pokemon that would LOVE to use the 120 BP Poison Special move in their aresnal. Hydreigon, the Glow-twins, Toxtricity, Salazzle- hell, even Cacturne might want something to hit fairies hard with. But it's just not able to be consistently used.

    round should gain power for each sound based move that was used before it in the turn. starts at 30, gains the attack power of those moves (or 50 if it was a non-damaging move like roar). so the ideal combo is to have a faster pokemon use hyper voice, and then follow up on it with massive damage, or maybe carry an item that blocks roar and retaliate. also plays well with trickroom, since you want to go after the enemy if the also carry the move.

    All Charge really needs is to change from a one turn buff either to being stored or a weaker permanent multiplier, maybe add a level of SpecD or Speed. Swalot's moves should go back to not spending the stacks, increase Swallow to 25% per stack, and lower Spit Up damage to 50-75 per stack.

  • @justwhy7153
    @justwhy7153 21 хвилина тому

    In the next Pokémon game, they should change how these moves work.
    Charge can not only boost special defense, but at least give the Pokemon using it three or four instances of empowered electric type attacks.
    (100%/75%/50%/25%) or (100%/50%/25%) per move usage, each getting weaker like a battery using up some of its "charge".
    So instead of permanently boosting the pokemon until knockout/switch (broken concept, ngl.) it can allow players to set up and hit the enemy team at critical times whenever available, if the Charged/Baton Passed Pokemon is on the battlefield.
    ~•~ ~•~ ~•~
    For Belch, I think the mechanic should be changed overall so that works like venoshock or Hex; that it can attack with damage havled (60 base) and max if the berry is used (120). Belch can also force the Pokemon to consume the berry immediately to use the move, if the condition is right.
    Meaning some berries won't work at all or sacrificing the berry will give the player "But nothing happned!" text. The change is good for when you step in traps and are still in the green on HP or proccing stat boosting berries to increase your offensive/defensive capabilities.
    A personally funny idea would be for a Pokemon suffering from poison status to get the buff without the use of a berry, as some forms of sickness can have belching as a side affect.
    Combining berry and poisoning to send it into a terrifying 180 base power move that'll melt the competition.
    ~•~ ~•~ ~•~
    I'm not sure what to think about for Round.
    Maybe boosting the next attack of the initiator?
    Make a special "synchronized" state to boost sound or regular moves afterwards until one of them are Knockout/switch?
    I've got nothing...😅

    15:30 - Ok... Hear me out, there's a legitimate build that Can make Belch work, even work good to an extent (at the very least surprise factor as most players have no idea one of these moves even exist).
    Swalot spec'd into Defense and Special Attack (Ability doesn't really matter, maybe run Sticky Hold to ignore Trick), hold Petaya Berry for +1 SpAtk, use the move Stuffed Cheeks which instantly consumes the user's held berry regardless of its activation conditions And gives a free +2 Defense. (Why have you never heard of this move? Because only Greedent, Swalot, and Oinkologne learn it, and in Gen 8 it was Greedent's Signature Move...)
    Now, for attacking options you got Belch of course which now is a 120 BP move boosted with Stab & +1 SpAtk (or you can run Salac Berry for +1 Speed if you're playing in a weaker tier), Body Press to take advantage of the +2 Defense as well defensive build, and Giga Drain or Pain Split for healing and attacking Poison's weaknesses.
    Is it great? No, is it usable... 😶 Sure.
