This is the first of several videos I made years ago that I felt deserved an update (since two generations have started since the last one). If there are other older videos of mine you'd like to see get an update, comment them!
I hate how people always downplay the trade-holding-an-item evolutions. They’re absolutely infuriating and are very limiting for those who play by themselves or don’t have an extra copy to trade with, so I’m glad he pointed it out here!
Especially if you do it through random link trades and the fucker cancels before testing back I lost a doodling because if that and just bought the other version (also that fucking union circle trade that can only be done through link codes)
Because of this fact I'd like to add Finizen/Palafin to this list. It was the last pokemon I obtained for the SV dex because, I had like, one friend who played the game, and it has to be a certain level, and said friend has a job, so actually finding a time to friend circle was ridiculous
For basculegion, the required 294 damage was actually related to the idea that some of the basculins died during their trip to the upper section of the river and turned into souls with hatred that surround the evolved ones. In oldish Japanese, 294 ( ni-ku-shi ) and "hatred" have the same sounds.
I love that actually. The word puns in Japanese. It reminds me a lot of One Piece bounties bc their bounties relate to something about the character. 56 = Go Mu which is Luffy's thing
Fun Fact: Gimmighoul is the 999th Pokémon and after collecting 999 coins, it becomes the 1000th Pokémon: Gholdengo. One thing I like about it’s design is that it’s hair has 1 bent and 3 standing, which I believe is the representation of the number 1000.
When I first saw Gholdengo after I evolved my Gimmighoul, I thought it was kinda weird and not at all what I expected it to look like. But after seeing its volume image and how it moves around, by riding a SKATEBOARD MADE OF GOLD COINS, I instantly liked it a lot more and think it actually looks really cool, even with the dreadlocks and the low belt, like a cool skater dude. Also, it low key reminds me of the robots from Stray, coz they are robots that think and act like humans, wear clothes and even play sports and some even have "hair cuts", made of like metal or wires which is pretty creative. Plus their interactions with the cat are adorable. So I was thinking of them when looking at Gholdengo's dreadlocks, belt and skateboard, plus being a Steel-type (actually a *Gold*-type) and robots are made of metal, so... yeah.
I always feel like I'm in the minority that preferred the beauty stat method of evolving feebas over simply trading with the hold item, simply because I prefer to be able to evolve a pokemon on my own and not have to either hunt someone down to get them to trade with me or have to pull out another cartridge and system.
I am with you there. I think that the beauty stat requirement was unique and could be done with other Pokémon too. If they were going to change it they could have made it so Feebas evolves just using the Prism Scale
@@Jonathan-us1quLike, seriously, you will find and catch a Shiny Magikarp before you find a Feebas. In the first five generations, the odds of finding a Shiny are 1 in 8,192. That is a 0.01220703125% chance of finding one in the wild. The odds are so low. Feebas is also stupidly hard to find in the Hoenn games. And do you want to know what else sucks about Feebas in the Hoenn and Sinnoh games? The way it evolves. They could have had it evolve through leveling up, leveling up with high friendship, reaching a certain level with its Special Attack and/or Special Defense being higher than its Attack and/or Defense, trading, or even trading while holding an item. Honestly, the last one I mentioned is how it evolves as of Generation 5, and it should have been that way from the start. Trading while holding an item is annoying, but at least it's better than having to raise Feebas's Beauty condition. Feebas will only evolve once its Beauty condition reaches 170 or higher and then levels up, and you raise this metric by either making dry tasting PokeBlocks or Poffins. You can't just make them whenever, you have to go to Contest Halls in order to use the Berry Blender or the Poffin House to make the Poffins. Then, you have to play a minigame in which you need to do well to get good level, and with other people to get good feel. You better hope your Feebas doesn't have a nature that dislikes the dry flavor, because if it does, it will get less of a Beauty benefit from each snack. And the worst part is that feeding PokeBlocks or Poffins to a Pokemon increases its Sheen, and once that value maxes out, it won't eat anymore, so if you don't get your Feebas's Beauty condition high enough before it stops eating, you have to release that Feebas into the wild, catch another one, hope it has a nature that likes the dry flavor, and try again. I haven't even mentioned Berries yet, as Gen 3 relies on a battery for clock based events to occur, but if your battery runs dry, Berries can't grow in your game anymore, unless you replace the battery. Oh, except for the fact that doing that resets the clock, and no new clock based events can occur until the battery gets to where the previous one left off, meaning you won't be able to grow Berries until that happens anyway. There are so many factors as to how evolving Feebas works, and I'm probably making it sound next to impossible, but God, does everything surrounding getting Milotic suck balls.
Just wanted to point out for farfetch’d, air cutter is a high crit chance move that it learns at 25. So give it a leek and air cutter is a guaranteed crit
3:26 fun fact, in my first shield play through I got a Galatians yamask expecting it to evolve by level up so I didn’t google it, I did it on accident and I had to google why my yamask randomly evolved when I was just walking
I wanted to use a Palafin on my Violet team, but when I saw it’s evolution method required connecting through the Union Circle I was like “nope nevermind lmao” I ended up catching one in a five star raid 🤣
I found one in a six star raid but I gave up and after months on end my dumbass got rid of my save data.......and I also lost my shiny donphan.......but I it's fine cause I caught a shiny lechonk and evolved it and caught a shiny swablu
@@SilvAegisTV I don't know what to tell you, all pokemon stats were kinda never make sense since a fat cat is faster than the living embodiment of time itself.
@@Radish.com.0 True, I’m just pointing out that if you want to make the stat the evolution specializes in to be the one that needs to be higher, it would be Hitmontops base 110 special defense and not its base 70 speed. Which, side note, I don’t really get why Hitmontop has any stat that’s higher since it’s based on the concept of equilibrium.
Ever since Hydreigon was introduced I've been training a Deino up to evolve into a Hydreigon in every possible gen. Obviously after finishing the main story, I'm not that crazy
@@eclipseplayz3842in scarlet and violet grinding felt too much fun with the addition of the let’s go mode. It so funny watching your pokemons just demolish an entire ecosystem
@@sirus0s Even if it can be considered mainline, PLA was pretty recent. For a good 15 years, Manaphy was only obtainable through the Ranger games, and maybe a few events I forgot about.
I think that the linking cable item from PLA should be a mainstay at this point in the series, so that you don’t necessarily have to trade something like a haunter for gengar, all you need to do is use the item. Keeping the trade option is nice, but having the cable item is also good.
Making the link cable expensive or difficult to aquire would also stop whining over that option being availible - if you don't want to bother grinding currency or something, buy Nintendo Online and work out a touch trade.
@@serenaleone722 or instead of that nintendo can just make online features that don't require servers (like trading pokemon) free, and then the paid service is only needed for things that use servers (Like splatoon for example)
@@Gothic7876 I think the Link Cable should be something you can find on the ground, like other items. Maybe even as a "Drop" when you battle certain Pokémon. Would probably make sense if you get the said item from Pokémon that are Trade Exclusive only. Not just the Pokémon in S/V, but the ones from the DLC as well or any Pokémon that you transfer from the past Pokémon games.
Pro tip for Milotic: In Platinum version, you can buy poffins in the basement of the department store. These can increase the beauty stat enough to evolve.
Also... a Feebas will like blue blocks .... if it has a +SpAttack nature. If it dislikes bvlue... WHY ARE YOU EVOLVING IT!!?!?!? Seriously, a Milotic with a - SpAttack nature sucks.
Thank you so much I did not want to do the freaking minigame just to get Milotic. I sucked at it as a kid and I'm confident that hasn't changed. You my friend have saved me hours of my life
Wanted to point out something said during Hitmontop. 1: while it is tedious, it is still pretty easy to match the stats, as the effects of EVs take place in the summary immediately, so you can equal the stats 2: hyper training in SV is easier as it requires level 50 now 3: it’s become more well known, but a lot of people still don’t know this, if a Pokémon is level 100 and evolves by level up, and you use a rare candy on it, the evolution will happen. I’m unsure when this was implemented but it has been a thing since hyper training
Worse is the shiny melmetal because it was a limited time only. It took me 4 weeks to even bother evolving it. It has horrible stats and is pretty weak.
@@avaluggglazer445 Pokémon go, stats are often randomized, so even though melmetal could be good in other games, because of its low stat count in Pokémon go, people could be hesitant to evolve it.
@meowmeowcatfish Tried it and resorted to boxes. To gain 400 candy, you would have to walk with your buddy Meltan for 8000 km with the speed not greater than 12 km/h (or around 5600 miles with the speed of around 7,2 mph)
19:17 One note. In LA you have to do this quest to encounter the first Spiritomb, but after that they start spawning in the wild and you can catch as many as you like.
I think Gimmighoul gets a pass - they needed something special for pokemon 1000, plus it's an evolution method that actually encourages you to explore and seek out new towers and/or little roaming form ghouls. Is it annoying and time consuming if you want early game Gholdengo? Sure. But unlike the other methods in this list, if your goal is just to complete the pokedex and/or to use Gholdengo later in the game, either you will already have enough coins, or getting the incremental coins you need will require minimal effort.
Probably one thing I like about Sword and Shield is how trade evolutions can be easily obtainable via over-world encounters. It was honestly a life-saver since literally NONE of my friends play Pokémon (though the trading thing is still annoying if the pokemon I need to have in order to fill the dex is a version exclusive like Galarian Ponyta or Goodra since I have Sword)
i like in arceus they just turned trade evo into an item obtainable just like the other evo items. found a full odds shiny abra, was worried about evolvoling it, then found out about the link cable evo item.
@@DarthZ01 and they turned the held item trade evolutions like the protector and electrizer basically into evolution stones. I wish they kept them like that in Scarlet and Violet
@@DarthZ01I found a full odds remoraid and thought it would be a cool Pokémon and got a mustard yellow ocotillory then lost my scarlet and legends arceus game cards
I think Finizen should also be in this video since in order to evolve it you need to be with a friend, which means you must have a nintendo switch online (it costs real money). So to get palafin you have to pay more than just the games themselves. The only other way to get it is to find it in a raid, which can take forever.
The ursaluna can be done a tad easier if you go into your bag/menu and see if its able to evolve with the item-sometimes the moon is obstructed when its full and you cant tell anyway. It is still a pain tho. I played the game twice and I am pretty sure I got my PB the night after a full moon and had to wait the full cycle both times
The annoying part for me is in Pokemon GO. Even though I got mine during the events, at any other time it is not shown as an evolution when looking at Teddiursa or Ursaring unless the full moon is really in progress. Why hide the information even when the evolution can't happen?
Gen 1: stone or level up Gen 9: climb up Mount Everest while having a panic attack on your stomach, then do 10000 jumping jacks on Mount Everest at 2:49 on Saturday June 26, then find a certain spot in Russia to evolve your Pokémon to stage 2/3
Annihilape using rage fist to evolve is entirely purposeful. It’s based on an old dex entry saying that some Primeape get themselves so angry that they just die of stress. Annihilape is the angry spirit of that rage-filled Primeape.
That’s oddly terrifying. An absolute rage monster that will not only kill itself from its own rage, but will still come after you as a spirit. It will put itself in the grave just to kill you.
He’s not the spirit of a Primeape. The ones that don’t die of anger are capable of harnessing that power and energy, and that causes them to evolve. Most of them die of anger, but the remainder transcend.
I actually like how Kingambit's works. It ties into the Pokedex, explains the rarity, and personally it didn't seem to take that long to find 3 Bisharps surrounded by Pawniards. Bisharps are only in 1 area and you only need 3, not 30.
Seriously, idk why he had souch trouble with finding three Bisharp leading a group of Pawniard. I just went into the bamboo forest, ate a sandwich to increase steel encounters (since it's the only steel type in the area), and they were popping up like weeds. I targeted three of em and evolved my Bisharp in like ten minutes.
@MsTheCommentator Working smarter, not harder lol. I looked for two minutes then thought wait, let's just use the encounter power for steel types, and it was a breeze.
Actually the "Collect a thing to get a Pokemon as a reward" dates back as far as Gen 7 with collecting Zygarde cells and cores to get its 100% form as well as the totem stickers for the totem reward Pokemon, I'd say those count.
That's not really evolving though. That's to obtain the Pokemon in the first place. More comparable to the Ruinous Treasures in SV than to Gimmighoul and Gholdengo. This video is specifically about difficult Pokemon to evolve, not obtain. Otherwise Munchlax would be on the list, as would Zygarde, Spiritomb, and even the Ruinous Treasures
@@Kahadi Rewatch/Relisten to 19:05 "Adding collectibles that have a Pokemon as a reward." so for a moment there he didn't talk about the topic of the video. Spiritomb *is* on his list of examples.
I was surprised how difficult it was for Mikey to get Gholdengo bc it was super easy for me. Literally, Gimmighoul is everywhere. I racked up so many coins without even trying
Meltan used to be SOOO much worse… Mystery Box was only activated by sending Pokémon to Let’s Go, had a cooldown of 7 days instead of 3, and only lasted for 30 minutes instead of 60.
Note: Hyper training is in gen 9, and now only requires a pokemon to be level 50 or above. Doesn't make the tyrogue evolution less annoying but is still a very good thing to know.
For Basculegion's 294 Recoil Damage requirement, it's likely Goroawase (Japanese Wordplay) for "Nikushi" (Archaic Japanese for "Hatred"). Nikushi = Ni (2) - Ku (9) - Shi (4)
Little tip for Annihilape, you can go to Route 1 and use it 20 times on a lv 2 Lechonk. It does count, even if it doesn't affect the pokemon. It's super easy, and ethers are everywhere to refill your PP thanks to the serial litterer that's wondering around Scarlet and Violet.
@@Silverzzz1111 Yes, and that's the point. You can't hurt it, but each time you try to attack it still counts, so you can just attack it 20 times without having to get into 20 fights. You can evolve Primeape in like 3 minutes doing this.
Fun fact, the Meltan one actually gets worse, at least in Lets Go. I recently rediscovered that transferring a Pokémon from Go to Let’s Go is just the start bc you still have to catch them as though they’re wild, and Melmetal (or at least the ones I transferred in) is always a dark red ring and likes to flee, which isn’t a huge deal bc you just have to re-encounter it but is still very irritating.
In Generation III, the thing about berries is that they rely on a battery to grow, so if your battery dies, berries can't grow in your game anymore, unless you replace the battery, but doing that resets the clock, and no new clock-based events can occur until the clock catches up with the previous one, meaning that you won't be able to grow berries until that happens anyway.
I believe the only non-invasive way to fix this is with the Pokémon Colosseum bonus disc, which downloaded an update patch onto your Ruby or Sapphire cartridge. Hence why it goes for such crazy secondhand prices.
I thought getting the 999 coins would be WAY more tedious, I got them sooner than I expected by a mile, just exploring the map, fighting every chest (the easier ones to find are the ones in the towers) and paying a little attention to the small ones (they make a sound if you are near one) and you get it just by enjoying the game, visiting new areas
same bro it wasnt as hard as people made it seem the small ones if your luckygive like 10 coins and by the ice type gym without the tower ones i had 500+
The problems I had with Gimmeghoul were about finding a decent one to Evolve - Weakening a Chest Form Gimmeghoul can be *a pain,* when none of your _False Swipers_ have *Scrappy or Enemy-Identifying Moves,* the little Ghost faints to a Strong Breeze (because unless you're running _Victory Road,_ you can only *Command Lv.20 or lower without question,* and Gimmeghoul is better to aquire Early while you're collecting Coins), and you have to _keep Catching Gimmeghoul_ until you get one you're *willing* to _Evolve into a Gholdengo!_
Yeah, as long as you're diligent about hitting those chests, which are fairly easy to find, getting 999 is not that bad. I got it around midway into my playthrough, evolved Gimmighoul, and then found another 999 coins before finishing the game. I spent the last 4-5 hours just ignoring Gimmighoul because I literally couldn't carry their coins.
Well, the Meltan case used to be as hard as he mentioned. But if you have a Mega Pokémon at it's max level and then use Pinaps then it becomes faster. Not to mention that since many players (including me) like to have a Hundo Meltan, we usually hunt for it multiple times. I have way over 1000 Meltan Candies and over 500 XL candies for it and I just remember to do that occasionally.
Rellor into Rabsca: Makes sense, they roll balls of po- mud around and that would get bigger the more it walks. Bramble: Makes sense, tumbleweed pick up more pieces as they roll around. Pawmo into Pawmot: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh static electricity maybe???
@@CraftingGummi ive been doin that since it evolved when it was a pawmi and it wont fricken evolve again, so i caught an orthworm and put the pawmo in the box
I got a Milotic in my Emerald playthrough. While you can’t make pokeblocks until right before the 7th gym, the sheen was not the problem. Aside from just finding Feebas, one big problem is that physical copies can have its battery run dry, so there was a fixed number of berries to work with for the evolution.
If it helps, even if you can't grow berries, you can still get them from wild Pokémon. Chesto Berries, which are good for making blue Poke blocks, are sometimes held by wild Whismur and Spinda.
@atonofspiders You can't get them daily if the battery runs dry. Clock based events no longer occur. If an NPC relies on a day-to-day schedule for giving out berries, then they won't restock and give you another berry.
Never mind the fact that it was nigh impossible to find a Feebas in the first place due to the random fishing tile mechanic they set in place for it. Eventually just gave up on it.
For Ursaluna evolution, instead of waiting for the moon to appear, you could just go to the menu and check if Peat block is 'usable' on Ursaring... saves a lot time :)
i played shield and the game doesn't have a leek but there is a way to get sir fetch'd in shield. you can teach galarian Farfetch'd focus energy to increase the rate of critical hits, then find a trainer or wild Pokemon and use focus energy right away, then use the moves. It was very quick for me
The Leek isn't exclusive lol. It's in Shield, any wild Farfetch'd has a chance to be holding one that you can either Thief/Covet from or catch to get it
@@monstermayhem4367 well the main problem with that is that Farfech'd isn't able to be found in shield, it's exclusive to pokemon sword, and can only be obtained in shield via trading, which is also true of the leek.
Kinda surprised that Inkay into Malamar didn’t make the list since inverting the 3DS is definitely something that you most likely would have to look online or a guide to figure out what you’re doing wrong to get it.
Wonder what the evolution method is these days. Assuming Inkay even made it to Gen 8/9, I honestly don’t know. I know in Pixelmon, you had to level it up while at an absurd height to evolve it.
Actually an easier way to get ursaluna is to try using the peat block at night, if it doesn't work you sleep to the next night and continue until it allows you to use it.
I appreciated Pawmo's evolution for this exact reason - there's an NPC trainer in S/V who gives you a hint about the new method. Wish more Pokemon games did this...
16:41 if you're annoyed on trying to evolve pawmo, rellor or bramblin, you can attach a rubber band to the two of your controls sticks (make sure to stretch it a bit first) and while walking your pokémon, you'll just be running around in circles. after a couple of minutes (maybe 10-20 or so) take off the rubber band and level them up! i tried this on my scarlet playthrough and my pawmo evolved in like under half an hour :) no joycon drift either, just make sure to do the stretching part. hope this helps!
The rage fist isn't actually as bad as you do it. If you just face a normal type, you don't have to encounter a new pokemon nor have to wait on the animation. So you can just spam rage fist, maybe use an elixer to get back another 10 pp and there you go: it now evolves into annihilape. You don't need to KO and wait on the animation for like 20 pokemon
Rage fist is honestly not annoying at all. 1: rage fist a good move especially for tera raids. 2. Even if you dont do tera raids its a more balance version of roll out. 3. Its only 20 times. Rage fist is primeapes signature move. And i will die on that hill.
The most annoying for me was the bisharp evolution because it took so long just to get leader bisharp to spawn. It took so long I found a shiny falinks before being able to evolve it.
I have a similar story. Hundreds of fishing encounters looking for Carvhana, but only a shiny Wailmer and no Carvhana after all these years. The wiki said it was possible, but I guess it lied. Quick question: Can Carvhana be caught in Pokemon Moon?
for the sir-fetched evolution, if you teach it focus energy, the crit chance is 100% while holding the leek. you can also teach it false swipe so it cant actually KO the opponent but will still crit
As a Pokémon Go player, I can say that the Pokémon that are needed to be set as your buddy are the most annoying especially the ones where you have to win 10 raids which could take days or you would have to spend real money to get remote raid passes and spend a long time defeating the raids with your buddy which could still take up to 3 - 4 days
It's pretty crazy that in Scarlet I got both dusk form lycanrock and Goodra by sheer random luck when they evolved in their specified time windows but in ARCOOS I waited hours trying to get Ursaluna.
The Prism Scale is not available in Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. I wish that holding the Blue Scarf contributed to the Beauty level for evolution.
@@JCDragon2819 It can be found. If you use bulbapedia, the info for BDSP isnt there. pokemondb has bdsp listed, and serebii sort of has it. Bulbapedia just doesn't have it.
I ultimately didn’t find that evolution method that bad. Mainly because I’ve been doing the exact same thing for friendship evolutions, which even with this easier method to raise friendship, I would say is more time consuming than just walking 1000 steps.
I'm kinda jealous cause it took me SO LONG to evolve my pawmo. it kept going back into its pokeball cause it can't keep up with me. and I had to go walk extra slowly around mesagoza because if I ran into any wild pokemon on a route it'd reset pawmo back into its ball. I never want to do it again
@@ArthurTRead for the future use the mesagosa stairs they are 200 steps each way so go up and down each way and you should get it To ensure it was right I walked to thenpokecenter but just use some XP candies and it should work fine
I think it’s really funny to hear Mikey rant about Yamask to Runerigus because I had 0 problems doing it. I got over 49 damage without fainting my first try, and went right to the arch. Took like 5 minutes max. Edit: I will agree that without the internet, you’d never figure it out. However, prior to any playthrough of a Pokémon game, I do extensive research on the Pokémon Database. I plan out the six Pokémon I intend to use on my team, write down their location, and (most pertinent to this) their evolution requirements. So I knew going into the game what I had to do to evolve Yamask into Runerigus
What they don't tell you about Bisharps is that 1. those three battles must be consecutive. You must not fight or even touch other pokemon inbetween. 2. Your bisharp can't receive any help from the rest of your team. 3. You must level him up afterwards. I spent all morning trying to figure out why my bisharp just wouldn't evolve.
I mean, I had my Bisharp, Oberon, evolve I think even while fighting a Girafarig in between, so I don’t know about the first point. But I used Low Kick to my advantage if you wonder how I got my Kingambit.
One of the hardest evolutions is Larvesta in Pokemon Go. It already requires a lot of luck to even get it from eggs, but it also takes 400 Candies to evolve. And when you only get one candy for every 5km, you'll be grinding for literally a year if you walk 5km a day which is already a lot for so little. And that's even if you get it in the first place as, again, it's completely random if you hatch it from an egg. This means you could hypothetically never get this Pokemon.
For the 1000 steps thing, there's actually a simple way of doing it : surfing. The floaty platform pokemon are on during surfing easily catches up to the ride dragon's swimming speed (so long as it isn't the dashing speed) so it's possible to get the 1000 steps in rather quickly
Another one: if you can jump on top of a Pokémon center on Miraidon or Koraidon (I did it in Casscarrafa) and crouch, it will run in circles if it’s already out of its Pokeball because it’s trying to reach you. Let it run around for about 30 minutes and give it a rare candy and it should evolve. If not you can always jump back up and let it run around some more :)
Okay hear me out, evolving Ursaluna was fun. I like a lot of the odd evolution methods because it feels like your actually bonding with your 'mon and working towards their evolution. It also makes the Pokémon feel more real than just video game monsters that you level up. That said, some of these don't really help with that aspect and are just annoying.

The Basculan one makes no sense though "Just keep hurting yourself and you'll become a stronger pokemon, ok?" Kind of creates a negative message for kids who have serious mental problems
What's worse about the walking method is that if you walk too fast they go back in the ball and it restarts, if you take them out using the auto fighting button it doesn't count and they won't evolve if you get the steps and then use candies. I had all three of them on my team but gave up on them because evolution was so hard
@@calvinallen3424 No, it doesn't solve anything in terms of making the problem go away. But it makes it easier because it's a circle, so you can't get too far away from them that they'll go back in the ball. Also, you can use candy after you've gotten the steps. I've evolved a Pawmo in both Scarlet and Violet.
While the running evolutions are annoying, one way to circumvent their slow speed is to run in circles. The best way to do this is in a town/city so that you don’t get random Pokémon battles. This is useful for two reasons: A. The Pokémon won’t de-spawn from the distance B. It’s much less time consuming since you don’t have to stop for the Pokémon to catch up. At most i spent like 3 minutes on each Pokémon running to have them evolve
boy i used bramble ghast and rabessca i just went around a circle hole near the place where you get armarouge armor and guess what you have to do it 10 times i nailed sure but god was it time consuming
5:04 soooooo this technically isn't true anymore. At least in Sword and Shield, if you have a Pokemon that's still yet to evolve by level up and it's already level 100, you can just use a rare candy and it will evolve. I did this for a level 100 Shiny Natu I got from Wonder Trade back in ORAS and it worked.
A tip for the Ursaring - > Ursaluna method( 14:34): Instead of actually looking up in the game, you can actually just open the menu, go to the Pleat Block and see if Ursaring is compatible with it. This is a more easier way to evolve Ursaring if you want to save time( not to offend you).
For the Urasring evolution after you sleep go into your bag, hover over the Peat block item, and it will say either available or unavailable under Ursaring if it's a full moon or not. You don't have to look for the moon.
Fun fact that I learned recently you can evolve a level 100 Pokemon by giving it a rare candy. I was pretty surprised that they added that feature probably because of how many shiny level 100 Magikarp there are in the world. Edit: I never bothered trying this in any game before Scarlett and Violet. I thought larvesta had the highest evolution level at 65 to get volcarona.
15:11 you don’t have to wait at all. Just go into your bag and highlight the Peat Block and see if you’re able to use it. You can do this immediately without waiting for the moon to rise.
If you want to get a Gholdengo, check the tops of watchtowers. Chances are good you'll find a Gimmighoul chest if you haven't gotten one at that tower already. Also, don't bother leveling a Gimmighoul up until you're ready to evolve it. It doesn't get anything besides Tackle and Astonish until it evolves.
I really don’t mind annihilape, kinggambit, and gholdengos methods. I actually really like them because they feel like living the lore. And they make sense. I don’t want all Pokémon to have complicated methods but these are more interesting than just level up. They’re actual reasons for them to change forms.
I've evolved Feebas using every method in every game and raising its beauty to maximum in the original Ruby and Sapphire drove me nuts but it was so worth it just to see Milotic in my Pokémon Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness games. In ORAS and the Diamond and Pearl Remakes to me the difficulty was finding Feebas, evolving it was the easy part.
In ORAS specifically there is an easy method of getting feebas, by fishing directly under the bridge in route 119, it’s 100% guaranteed that feebas shows up, thats how I got mine. :)
Evolving Feebas in Diamond and Pearl is also pretty brutal especially by yourself. Need to do the berry mini game perfectly several times and have the right nature for your feebas. Thankfully there’s an NPC who helps raise the beauty stat.
Omg yes same. I just picked up my copy of Sapphire and tried it again and tbh it didn’t take as long as I had remembered. 412 squares to fish through seemed more daunting back then but it only took 30 minutes before the first tile encounter. Still involved with the Popularity phrase piece and then spamming pamtre/Oran/sitrus based pokeblocks to reach that maxed beauty.
You know what always made me think when it comes to Milotic, is that they only did the evolution from a contest stat once. I mean, yeah its annoying to have to max out Beauty, but the fact none of the other contest stats were used just is interesting to me. Also no one seems to talk about it either. Let's say, for instance, Feebas could evolve based on whichever of its contest stats hit 170 first? Like I wonder what a Cool, Clever, Cute, or Tough Milotic would be like? Would they be Water/? types, or like Milotic would they be mono-types? All mono-water with difference moves learned and stat distributions? Or maybe they'd each be aquatic but be mono-typed without being Water, like Tough would be a Fighting-type, Cute would be a Fairy-type, etc.
" hows anyone supposed to figure this out without the internet" all gen 3 players laugh as we had to try to READ BRAIL and figure out how to open those god damn regi doors XD

To make the Melmetal one worse, if you want to use a *shiny* one in LGPE or SwSh, something that typically only happens once a year in PoGo, and you gotta get lucky enough to get a shiny Meltan during that event where they can be shiny to evolve and then transfer to Home.
Yea, the melmetal you get from home can't be shiny, but when you open the box in PoGo its a very small chance. Still normal shiny odds, but you only have an hour, which makes it 20x harder.😅
TIP FOR ANYONE EVOLVING VIA STEPS IN S/V: I found out that on average you take 15 steps while walking directly around the kiosk desk itself of any pokemon centre in the region, this adds to the total steps needed to evolve meaning 67 laps of the kiosk will fully evolve any of Pawmo, Rellor or Bramblin. Of course walking further outside will lower the amount of laps needed to evolve but I thought I'd share this information to anyone who needed it
I kinda like having a more involved task to evolve one here and there. I like the sense of accomplishment. Pokemon is already too easy in general so I think switching it up for a few things is okay.
A great way to make at least part of the dusk-form Lycanroc process easier is to lead with a Kirlia/Gardevoir that can trace the Rockruff's ability immediately at the beginning of battle. That way you can run if it doesn't have Own Tempo and don't have to leave a trail of fainted/captured Rockruffs in your wake.
Sadly enough, Own Tempo is the hidden ability for Rockruff... Causing it to either need a fixed spawn (the psychic tera Rockruff in SV is one) or a special grind in USUM. Hidden abilities don't naturally spawn ;-;
@@ValunarTonix Actually, from what I've heard, Own Tempo is its own kind of ability, a "Special Ability" (Rockruffs Hidden Ability is Steadfast, which it had in SM already, while Own Tempo was of course only something it got for the event in USUM, but they didn't change Steadfast for that), and regular Rockruff in the wild DO have a chance to spawn with it, at least in SV. I mean, it wouldn't really make sense for all Hidden Ability Rockruffs to only be able to evolve into Dusk-form starting with USUM, that'd make Night and Day-forms with Hidden Ability unavailable.
@@brendanboomhour7606 I actually found one between the wind turbines and the shoreline, near the flying-type Titan, using the prescribed technique with a Kirlia.
For Pawmo, Bramble, and Rellor, I've learned you can run in a circle (most preferably the circular floor pattern just outside the school) for 2 minutes straight to walk them around the smaller circle, then evolve them. I hope this helps even just one person.
So, Farfetch can learn night slash through breeding and a level 1 Farfetch with night slash going up against a ghost type while holding a leek can do this task easily and greatly shortens the time this takes.
My tip for Melmetal in GO -- By completing certain events or tasks (like winning against at least 4 opponents in the GO Battle League), you'll be rewarded around 1 to 3 Rare Candy, and, assuming you have enough space in your bag, or give it to one of your in-game captured Meltan, you can gradually convert those Rare Candy into Meltan Candy, until you've collected 400. Then just tap ''Evolve'' if the button appears a bright green. At least, that is the method I used to obtain this Pokémon. It really depends on how many Meltan you've caught and how many Pinap Berries you use on wild ones before catching them.
Probably the most annoying thing about these evolutions is that there’s no in-game way to discover how to evolve them like an NPC or a Pokédex entry giving you hints and instead have to look up a guide on how to evolve them
Mikey I have a couple of requests. 1. Rate all the Gen 9 shiny Pokémon like you did with last Gen. 2. I would love it if you did another MBF season in Scarlett & Violet a few months down the line. Although I know this one would take a lot of effort.
I think the reason I never had problems with Galarian Sirfetchd is because I used it in a gym battle and like an anime main character team moment, it evolved from that battle. It was part of my playthrough team and I don't even know if I was aware of it's evolution, but it's possible I was and I was purposefully bringing it along to as many fights as I could so that I could give it the chances to crit as often as possible. I also got lucky with mine as it had a leek from the jump.
I love how you talked about Feebas, I grew up in a small town and during the time where Sapphire was a thing, the internet wasn't a big thing for us, and I was the only one who knew how to catch a Feebas (which is more horrible in itself than evolving it at the time) so I think evolving it was fine, because if you didn't know how to catch Feebas during the original version, you can fish for one year and still not get Feebas.
What irks me about the trade evos is that pre-Gen 4 it required the purchase of a completely separate cable in order to do it and post-Gen 4 if you wanna do something like trading just for an evolution or to fill your Pokedex you still have to go to some online forum specifically made for such a task in order to do it efficiently and safely
@KororaPenguin i'm assuming you're asking what happens if there's a disconnect, and the answer is to have the game make a save state right before the trade begins. If connection is severed before the trade is fully completed, then the game will just revert to before the trade took place
Evolving Feebas in Platinum is actually pretty easy if you have enough money. You just have to buy dry poffins from B1F of Veilstone Department. Although the Hardest part is actually "Finding" Feebas in Mt Coronet.
Exactly OBTAINING feebas was always the hardest part. I still shudder thinking about when I originally sought him out as a teen back in ruby sapphire days. Ewwugh
@@kaustubhrotkar6845 When I did it I checked to see if it had a +SpAttack nature... which turns out to be what makes them like blue Pokeblocks anyways.... Breeding to get a +SpAttack nature helps if you didn't catch one.

Zygarde. Needs the whole map unlocked, definitely impossible without the internet, and the search for that one last missing piece still haunts me to this day.
A little fun fact: Stantler AND Hisuian Qwilfish do evolve the same way as Primeape in SV. The thing is you can't get a Stantler with Psyshield Bash without transferring it in from Legends Arceus (same with Hisuian Qwilfish)
@@dorkenspache8353 So we don't know for sure. Eternal Floette is also in the game files, and you still can't get it, never have been able to. Just because something is in the game files doesn't mean it's going to be in the final game. Could be left over/re-used/placeholder assets.
I remember the Dusk Form Lycanroc thing. I had Ultra Moon and thus had to do it between 5-6am like you said, using the event Rockruff they gave out for USUM that had Own Tempo. Basically I got it close to level 20 by having it in my party, then boxed it so it wouldn't gain any more experience till I could evolve it. I ended up evolving it the day of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, since I was already up at that time (my mom and I got up early to watch the wedding live, which was at like 3am our time thanks to time differences). I agree about Melmetal. I got the event Level 100 one they distributed. (Not sure if that's the one from Home or not, can't remember). I actually used it in an official tournament (Mythical Melee, which was legendaries and mythicals only), which was kinda fun. One helpful thing about Gimmighoul is that there's an audio cue when it appears in the overworld, which has helped me find it whenever it shows up. Plus there are the chest ones on the towers.
You thought Meltan had the most annoying evolution method, Mikey? Ohhhh Man! Evolving Finizen into Palafin is the most hair-pulling experience this side of fishing a Feebas in Gens 3/4. Now, Finizen's evolution method is simple enough: evolve it to Level 38. Now, you would have thought Gamefreak would have just leave it at that. *HOWEVER* , some genius at the design crew said "Hey, since dolphins are very sociable creature, let's make so that Finizen only evolves when the player has an online friend". And thus, we just had to fork out some extra cash just to see our beloved dolphin evolve into (arguably) the mkst broken Pokemon ever. Thanks, Nintendo,
@@damienearl8302 he plays a lot with John so he already has an online friend, and since he plays a lot of switch games he might have had the online club thing for Nintendo. There is a chance he didn't even know there was more to it then hitting the level requirement.
The thing that got me with Kingambit was that it seems the leader Bisharp must only be defeated by your Bisharp with the leaders crest to count. I started out one shotting them with my Talonflame or switching to it in battle to make it easier with fire moves, but it not working. Then when I sought out 3 leader Bisharp in a row and only used Bisharp to defeat them, it evolved.
IIRC yours can be any Bisharp and doesn’t need to hold a leader’s crest. It just has to beat 3 Bisharp leading a pack of Pawniard aka ones holding leader’s crests and then level up
I used a Pawmot (named Pawmigiana) in my playthrough team in Scarlet and I really had no problem with evolving Pawmo. What I did was just get on Koraidon and run in a small circle. That way I never went so far that Pawmo warped back to me and got my steps up really high really fast.
Honestly, these type of evolutions are my favourite ironically since I'm very particular with the lore and deeper meaning behind it, minus the leveling up a slow pokemon to a high level. It makes evolving Pokemon more organic, full of variety, and or less stale. I'm also generally a patient person so there's that.

I hate how people always downplay the trade-holding-an-item evolutions. They’re absolutely infuriating and are very limiting for those who play by themselves or don’t have an extra copy to trade with, so I’m glad he pointed it out here!
Yeah. These others are annoying but at least possible. The trades are not possible at all without somebody else.
Or you don't want to pay Nintendo to be able to trade even if you have friends
Not to mention when they make getting the item aggravating or late in the game.
Especially if you do it through random link trades and the fucker cancels before testing back
I lost a doodling because if that and just bought the other version (also that fucking union circle trade that can only be done through link codes)
Why are people complaining about baculegen? I just spammed strong style wave crash on the alpha blissy
It's still annoying
Why did I both get galaran yamask and basculegen first try

I love that actually. The word puns in Japanese. It reminds me a lot of One Piece bounties bc their bounties relate to something about the character. 56 = Go Mu which is Luffy's thing
That's pretty interesting
Fun Fact: Gimmighoul is the 999th Pokémon and after collecting 999 coins, it becomes the 1000th Pokémon: Gholdengo. One thing I like about it’s design is that it’s hair has 1 bent and 3 standing, which I believe is the representation of the number 1000.
thats actually really cool
Ikr
Personally I think it just looks like string cheese
I actually somewhat like it’s design. And the sting cheese thing makes me love it even more than before.
So I was thinking of them when looking at Gholdengo's dreadlocks, belt and skateboard, plus being a Steel-type (actually a *Gold*-type) and robots are made of metal, so... yeah.
Imagine trying to figure out these newer evolutions without the internet
Kids would go back to schoolyard rumors like we did when I was a child.

"when does my yamask evolve, he's at level 100"
To be fair that’s probably why they waited to put them in, the internet is incredibly accessible now
I always feel like I'm in the minority that preferred the beauty stat method of evolving feebas over simply trading with the hold item, simply because I prefer to be able to evolve a pokemon on my own and not have to either hunt someone down to get them to trade with me or have to pull out another cartridge and system.
I am with you there. I think that the beauty stat requirement was unique and could be done with other Pokémon too. If they were going to change it they could have made it so Feebas evolves just using the Prism Scale
the beauty stat wasn’t annoying it was more annoying just finding a feebas in the sinnoh games lol
Same. I got a feebas from trade in BDSP and evolved it before the 3rd gym. Never made poffins before, but it’s actually really easy
You’re just lonely 😅

So confused why he didn't mention it in the video
That's not really evolving though. That's to obtain the Pokemon in the first place. More comparable to the Ruinous Treasures in SV than to Gimmighoul and Gholdengo. This video is specifically about difficult Pokemon to evolve, not obtain. Otherwise Munchlax would be on the list, as would Zygarde, Spiritomb, and even the Ruinous Treasures

Mystery Box was only activated by sending Pokémon to Let’s Go, had a cooldown of 7 days instead of 3, and only lasted for 30 minutes instead of 60.

It isn't hard the first time, the problem occurs when you need a second one, 'cause the chests don't respawn oftenly...
@@moggie269 you can get a chest's worth daily at the normal gym city.
Definitely the trade gimmick for me. Luckily sword had a wild one walking around but I think they still kept the trade gimmick for its previous evolve

Oh damn I never even thought of that, yeah all my physical batteries are dead in the old games too.
If it helps, even if you can't grow berries, you can still get them from wild Pokémon. Chesto Berries, which are good for making blue Poke blocks, are sometimes held by wild Whismur and Spinda.
And there's actually around 9 berries you can get from various NPC's daily
@atonofspiders You can't get them daily if the battery runs dry. Clock based events no longer occur. If an NPC relies on a day-to-day schedule for giving out berries, then they won't restock and give you another berry.
Never mind the fact that it was nigh impossible to find a Feebas in the first place due to the random fishing tile mechanic they set in place for it. Eventually just gave up on it.

Plus you can also just run around in circles in a town plaza, I did that and it was quite quick, had no issues.
I personally find 3 laps around the Ruchbah star base works well for me
3 laps around Los Platos works really well too
Another one: if you can jump on top of a Pokémon center on Miraidon or Koraidon (I did it in Casscarrafa) and crouch, it will run in circles if it’s already out of its Pokeball because it’s trying to reach you.
While the running evolutions are annoying, one way to circumvent their slow speed is to run in circles. The best way to do this is in a town/city so that you don’t get random Pokémon battles. This is useful for two reasons:
A. The Pokémon won’t de-spawn from the distance
B. It’s much less time consuming since you don’t have to stop for the Pokémon to catch up. At most i spent like 3 minutes on each Pokémon running to have them evolve
For Rabsca, I just went to the Type Circle in Mesagoza and went around and around for about 3 minutes. Nailed it first try.

its encounter rate is ridiculously low too when you have to fish the entire river. It can take up to 60 hours to just encounter one
I got a Milotic old school style in Sapphire as a kid. Worse yet, it had Jolly Nature and hated dry food. Took almost a whole weekend to do.

Sadly enough, Own Tempo is the hidden ability for Rockruff... Causing it to either need a fixed spawn (the psychic tera Rockruff in SV is one) or a special grind in USUM.
Hidden abilities don't naturally spawn ;-;

Why don’t people just evolve Pokémon while traveling?
So, Farfetch can learn night slash through breeding and a level 1 Farfetch with night slash going up against a ghost type while holding a leek can do this task easily and greatly shortens the time this takes.
Galarian Farfetch'd, as a pure Fighting type, is not immune to ghost. It will die very fast.
Just do the repeatable trainer battles if you are too high level, or go fight a Metapod if you are low. Its rather easy.
Probably the most annoying thing about these evolutions is that there’s no in-game way to discover how to evolve them like an NPC or a Pokédex entry giving you hints and instead have to look up a guide on how to evolve them
Paladin deserves to be on this list. I had to buy Nintendo online just to EVOLVE this Pokémon. Even EA couldn’t come up with a more annoying scheme.
You can find Palafin in 5,6 and 7 star raids
You also don’t need to be online if you have someone locally that can play with you, which is likely what they were going for.
The other issue is that there are only 9 water tiles in Route 119 to catch Feebas. Not 9 bodies of water, 9 pixelated water tiles.
I thought it was 6 tiles@@mystery8820
@@mystery8820 and it randomly changes. my approach was fish a tile, move if I got the wrong fish, repeat until successful
Yesss. Black and white had a huge problem with this.
And what happens if, during the trade, a -birdseed bandit- -tree rat- squirrel blunders into a power substation at one end in the real world?
@KororaPenguin i'm assuming you're asking what happens if there's a disconnect, and the answer is to have the game make a save state right before the trade begins. If connection is severed before the trade is fully completed, then the game will just revert to before the trade took place
@@Thund3rDrag0n12
And what happens at the end without the power outage?
@@KororaPenguin The trade is successful...
Ewwugh
@@RainmakerXBooty true man
The struggle was REAL
@@kaustubhrotkar6845 When I did it I checked to see if it had a +SpAttack nature... which turns out to be what makes them like blue Pokeblocks anyways.... Breeding to get a +SpAttack nature helps if you didn't catch one.
@@marhawkman303 yeah I agree with you
Although we still need to catch a feebas if we intend to breed it 😅
@@kaustubhrotkar6845 True. that's... annoying, but doable. swim, then fish each tile and move a tile each time you get something not a feebas. Yes it's time consuming, but fish, move, fish, move... WILL get you one... eventually.
Zygarde. Needs the whole map unlocked, definitely impossible without the internet, and the search for that one last missing piece still haunts me to this day.
Not only did I evolve Feebas by the beauty method in Gen 3, I actually found Feebas in the wild in Gen 3.
Legend
A little fun fact: Stantler AND Hisuian Qwilfish do evolve the same way as Primeape in SV. The thing is you can't get a Stantler with Psyshield Bash without transferring it in from Legends Arceus (same with Hisuian Qwilfish)
And you can't transfer Hisuian Pokemon to Scarlet/Violet yet... So... How do you know this?
@@harrisonhurst6480 Dataminers have figured this out and it says so on websites like Serebii
Pokémon home will be available in January for S/V. As well as the ability to transfer certain Pokémon into it.
@@rookbishop7822 Right, but it's not out now. So he can't know that for sure.
Plus there are the chest ones on the towers.
i didn't know farfetch'd evolved in that way, it on accident lol
Thanks, Nintendo,
Wait-
How didn't he mention that? That's so incredibly stupid!
I just used the free trial+discord
@@damienearl8302 he plays a lot with John so he already has an online friend, and since he plays a lot of switch games he might have had the online club thing for Nintendo. There is a chance he didn't even know there was more to it then hitting the level requirement.
Finizen isn't really annoying. It isn't at all if you and a friend go to a union. Friend as in a friend that visit for a while. Or a family member.
@@aldercyng7287 ...honestly, that actually makes sense!
Teach it brick break so much easier
@@jmurray1110 yeah Iirc i think I did end up doing something like that haha
I mean, it makes sense why. And at least you don't need friends to do it
Luckily a lot of us simply catch it via Tera Raids.
Easy way I found was to go to the top of the lighthouse at the start of the game, let the pokemon out and then run at least 7 laps round it
Honestly, these type of evolutions are my favourite ironically since I'm very particular with the lore and deeper meaning behind it, minus the leveling up a slow pokemon to a high level. It makes evolving Pokemon more organic, full of variety, and or less stale. I'm also generally a patient person so there's that.
