I just recently finished spire for the first time a month ago. My group thought it was hard, but thought crown of sorrows was harder. Also do you plan on going in raid order still or will you do crown of sorrow next to finish the Leviathan raid lairs?

I love how Val Ca'our begins to kneel a little and his arms go limp if he wins on final stand, like he looks genuinely tired after defeating you. Just another way bungie made this boss more alive than other bosses
I thought Xol was the Leviathan from Fundament, but now I know it was another creature entirely. When I heard the first raid in D2 was the Leviathan I thought itd be about the Worm gods

riven was literally a wish slut lol and guardians used to actually get wishes from riven ALOT like ALOT until everyone was like "wtf is happening to me why am i not op anymore" then they basically just decided to decimate the Ahamkara race when they noticed riven was actually a power slut too and was taking a tiny eensy 5% bit of light commission ontop of the wishes and the guardians didnt like losing power so yeah now there are no more Ahamkara and riven be getting her ass farmed 24/7 lol

God, I miss the Ghaul fight. Such a striking backdrop after a great lead up to the final fight. Working with your fellow guardians to fight through the city is something that was always my favorite thing to do.

I agree with all of this. Spire of stars with LFG. Crazy thing is, EVERYONE STAYED, even after 2 and a half hours of failing the boss. We completed it though, and I made a few friends from it aswell. God I won’t be doing it again though lol
I'll say this much, finishing this on prestige mode felt like a massive accomplishment and considering my first ever clear was prestige, it made the regular run feel not quite as rough as it maybe would have otherwise. Nice video as always.
Spire is actually one of my favorite raids, it’s challenging, but it’s pretty satisfying when you beat it. In my quest to collect all the ugly armor before it gets vaulted, I ended up guiding a lot of new players through it and it was kinda fun to teach and guide them through the fight and hear how happy they were over the mic when they beat it for the first time and got the emote. It’s a shame it’s getting vaulted, maybe they’ll bring the whole leviathan back in a few years and hopefully give the raids new and better loot.
I hated it. It's boring. First encounter is a joke, the jump 'n run is obnoxious, 3rd and 4th encounters use the same mechanics and the boss fight is stupid incl. the orbs dropping after the last stand....
Warmind was actually one of my favorite DLCs just for the fact you had all the Mars secrets to find after the campaign was over. Getting Polaris Lance was awesome after all the looking around. This also can't be the hardest raid...I've seen Jez complete it, lmao.
Spire of stars is by far my most favorite raid because of that difficulty. To this day, the music, the boss, and everything about it makes this raid worth the lack of loot for having fun. This raid has been the only raid since last wish day one, to still make my heart race upon getting a successful damage phase with only an auto, a shotgun, and a sword on prestige. Prestige just adding to that difficulty when its the right loadout and modifiers. I really hope they bring back this raid at a later date with actual loot, fixed bugs, and maybe even a new encounter of sorts.
@@hanzoshimada6655 Dont know why but it took me a week to defeat mantis lords, but I was also able to defeat soul master on my second try and lost kin on my third.
@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk be proud, it's only the 3rd easiest. It goes EoW, Leviathan, then SoTP. You can argue leviathan and sotp but that's my opinion. Also spire is actually as easy aswell the hardest part of the raid (after being above light level) was getting a team to do it cause everyone hated the raid.

I personally love spire of stars... WHEN I GET A GOOD FIRETEAM. Spire is one of the worst and most painful raids to run when your fireteam is full of idiots and one guy who lies of running spire in a kwtd lfg. The loot in spire is pretty eh, but the sidearm is pretty fun to use though. I really wish more people would run spire since I always have a super fun time when ever I’m in a good fireteam. Edit: I forgot to mention I love the concept of spire, leviathan was like a game show where you prove to calus your worthy of his weapons and respect, eater felt more like a test to prove your worthy of being a shadow, and spire felt like it was your first mission for calus.
@@sqrungle it’s a damn shame that teaching spire is so bad that no one is will to join and create a fireteam for teaching, and I fell like spire would be way more popular if spire wasn’t so pain to teach. But I also like how difficult spire is, the loot while not good is more of a symbol of you or someone betting the hardest raid in destiny.

The amount of people including my clan that go full retard as soon as they get the ball is simply baffling. I personally think it's the second most fun raid in D2, Last Wish with legit Riven being first. Nobody ever wants to those just for fun though.
Doing this raid was hell for MMXX, I put a Kwtd post up as in “I’m not waiting around for you to watch the 15 minute datto guide on the boss” and I get people who say I did this raid 2 years ago once and don’t remember any of the encounters
I played this for the very first time a few weeks ago and I loved it. Played with 5 other players I know, but only one had a full completion (which was a loooong time ago). We figured it out and had a blast; so much fun, but then again, we're all rolling with the meta, so I can imagine how difficult this was at launch/shortly after launch.
Seeing how destiny has aged story wise i appreciate these locations and stories so much more. I wont ever complain about dlc story anymore because i now know small stories can lead to grand adventures
I've seen and taught countless good raiders how to complete SoS. This was one of my favorite raids, probably because of how difficult it was for most people.
I remember playing all the way to the end of this raid very few times, maybe even as little as once. I don't recall ever even finishing the boss fight; and we all tapped out due to it taking so ungodly long to keep the team around long enough to beat it.
I agree, I've never liked story missions turning into strikes. It feels like I'm being shorted content that could have been there. I also don't like old D1 strikes coming back into the game, unless there's a story reason which makes it feel less cheap

I gotta be honest. These essays have done more to teach me how to do the raids than any other video. This is better than the kackis tutorials for getting me to understand how to play the raids
I love this lair, every encounter is fun and the final boss is just a riot. Figuring this one out was really hard but I loved every minute of it. Great vid as always Evan, I love these raid vids, you don't disappoint! Even the bloopers are great on this one. GG man, great work once more.
I love the video Evan. I don't know how you put up with the hundreds of hours that you have to analyze these clips to make these videos but I respect it.
Because Bungie was preparing for Beyond Light, all the Leviathan raids, Black Armory, and other questlines associated with Titan, Io, Mercury, Mars, and the Leviathan were gonna get vaulted anyway, so there was no point in fixing any potential game breaking or RNG abusive bugs. However because the Moment of Triumph 2020 requires ALL 5 RAIDS to be complete during Season of Arrivals, that means everyone that wants the triumph have to revisit these raids, bugs and all. Yes, that means reliving the pain everyone went through just to complete them once, and Bungie didn't even bother to at least fix them one more time so they could be doable and not a fucking nightmare. This was on Bungie, not the community. Leviathan is what i consider to be the most perfectly balanced raid. The scenery and atmosphere are gorgeous, everyone was given a task, and even though there was a challenge, all the clues were there. Eater of Worlds is practically brain dead, except for the boss, but after a few run, Argus becomes easy. Spire of Stars is broken as fuck and you have to pray the game doesn't decide to just kill you all of a sudden. Crown of Sorrow was doable, but also confusing because of the blessed/nonblessed polarity requirement. Hell, i needed a gamer who was also a teacher for 10 years break it down for me. Next round, i understood and stepped up. Scourge of the Past has excellent atmosphere, but also easy to get lost in. Plus ads are abusive, especially snipers. However the best pay off was Insurrection Prime, which was basically Destiny's version of a Metal Gear!!! SERIOUSLY, LOOK AT IT!!
Me and my clan decided to do something stupid. We decided to carry as many people through spire as we could. We only recently stopped with over 100 carries.
I remember this time in D1 when my clan was trying to do the Aksis challenge in WoTM. We were stuck at the boss for 12 HOURS, A bunch of people left and had to be substituted in and out. And in the end we STILL didn't even beat it. Even AFTER we gave up on the challenge and tried to do it normally on hard mode
I think this is one of my favorite raids because of visuals, mechanics, and how precise you and your fireteam had to be with the timing on the last encounter. Sure it was hard but man I fell in love with the difficulty.
Honestly on a sidenote about Warmind using the final story mission as a strike...honestly I don't mind it and sort of think if done well it can give some further replayability/incentive to the finale of the story? It could be because I am used to MMORPGs like the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with a free trail that lets you play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward Expansion for free with no restrictions on playtime....(Yeah I had to make the joke) But giving a bigger "Boss" presence and bigger breath to add to the scale of a finale in a story helps it a lot IMHO. Yeah FFXIV has their "Trial" encounter type (Pretty much imagine a standalone raid boss in a unique instance to itself), which it usually caps the expansion with, but that Trial is preceded by a gautlet of a dungeon taking you physically to the spot where the fight against the final boss of the expansion takes place. And unless Bungie decides to do that sort of thing (would be 100% down for that, would give more raid-like encounters and help players ease-in to the mechanics of raid bosses for proper raids), making it so the final boss is within a grand Dungeon/Strike like encounter would help give that sort of scale to the finale of the story. EX: Red Wars' Finale...But if it were designed as a Strike/Dungeon. You'd start in the city in the middle of the conflict, the Journey OST playing in the background as you'd make your way to the route to get onto Ghaul's flagship, fighting through waves of enemies while parkouring through the city. You'd encounter your first major roadblock with the first boss of the instance, say Ghaul's 3rd in command (2nd being the Consul). You beat him with him having his own encounter (Maybe him operating one of the big ships we see in The Arm's Dealer strike?), and then proceed into Ghaul's flagship and then face off against Lightbearer Ghaul, the fight being built around trying to jam/deactivate the light-filtering machinery on the arena to knock Ghaul out of his super(s). Then after beating Ghaul, he'd transform into his Light-Avatar form in a hail-marry by overlaoding the arena, it leading to an Oryx or War-Machine like encounter where you are on the sides of the Traveler's cage and have to break it before Ghaul can kill you, and maybe even the Traveler, the encounter clearing with you weakening the cage enough for the Travler to break itself free. That sort of gameplay storytelling is very difficult to make for a solo-instance without being very handholdy, which is a thing that limits boss design for the single-player focused campaign missions. Heck, I would be a bit sad if the FInale of the Light/Dark Saga in D2 was in a standard story mission as it'd underplay the heck out of The Witness. Although that does give me the idea of having a 6-man encounter against the Witness to weaken him, followed by a 1 on 1 final showdown ala FFXIV's trend lately of having a Trial followed by a Solo-instnace.

Yep. That's why I would only allow a max of 2 noobs on the team. 3 could derail everything too much for the others to make it up. This is the raid I have attempted the most and completed the least I would say.
That boss room was HELL ON EARTH. I finished one time for Age of Triumph and never touched it again. I can imagine Prestige being like having to go through an apocalypse just to get to damage
i went through all the raids recently as they were going away, with four first time and two people know whats going on, the last part took about two hours. Thanks to those two guys who were so patient with everything.

Gahlran is tougher since everyone has to do something. This raid boss is not even that tough. I’ve done it with 5 guys not know what to do and only me knowing

Spire, my bread and butter. i joined D2 in jan 2020, first raid was spire and then got my 5 man flawless in feb 2020. over 200 sherpas. this raid is love.

I miss this raid. This one and Leviathan. The other sunset raids don’t make me as sad (though scrounge is way good) but man, I miss them and hope they will come back soon because 2 D1 raids have so why not bring these guys back? I loved the look of the Levi gear and would like to see some random rolls and adepts (with the prestige look/glow)
I sat and thought about that first question as a D1 vet and excluding D2 I was surprised I landed on Vault of Glass. Kings fall and Wrath exist but being blind going into VOG was a nightmare. Most randoms couldn’t make it through gorgons consistently
There is a reason i only have like 2 clears on normal and 1 on prestige, prestige was for catty and i hated doing val because of how buggy the balls were and bungie never fixing them completely
@@meikl777 yeah they changed it to allow newer players to hop into prestige without needing to do normal(to Sherpa prestige). Makes it slightly easier, but it’s still harder than normal

Imagine you're confronted by a group of 6 guardians, humanities elite forces, paranormal beings capable of returning from the dead, each able to fight off countless foes at a time, and as you call in reinforcements to the clearly marked landing zones, you here one of them start frantically saying "PLATES GET ON THE PLATES", and then they all start laughing when one of their own died being crushed by the drop pod.
With people that know every encounter very well and know what to do what happens all the time aka carry their own weight i agree with u But i never had this experience, there was always a fresh player, someone who did it the first time, someone who isnt that great of a player so always doing the job of 2-3 people makes it hard 😅 loved it tho, most of the time it was friends i helped and it also proved myself worthy of carrying some dudes
Warmind will always be on of my favorite expansions getting things like sleeper, Polaris and whisper was one of the greatest feeling I’ve ever had in Destiny combined with the story of warmind I thoroughly enjoyed it
Loved this raid. Didn't get into it until it was going to be sunset. Ran it at least once weekly for the Sleeper Catalyst at this point. Trolling new people with the explosive charges and the red plates was always a blast.

Does it drop 2.0 versions of the raid gear? That would be the only reason to do these raids at this point, otherwise, why bother ???

The Arc section and the Fleet were really fun to play, especially when I was also guiding new players.

Spire of stars is by far my most favorite raid because of that difficulty. To this day, the music, the boss, and everything about it makes this raid worth the lack of loot for having fun. This raid has been the only raid since last wish day one, to still make my heart race upon getting a successful damage phase with only an auto, a shotgun, and a sword on prestige. Prestige just adding to that difficulty when its the right loadout and modifiers. I really hope they bring back this raid at a later date with actual loot, fixed bugs, and maybe even a new encounter of sorts.

@@JoelHernandez-tz3vk be proud, it's only the 3rd easiest. It goes EoW, Leviathan, then SoTP. You can argue leviathan and sotp but that's my opinion. Also spire is actually as easy aswell the hardest part of the raid (after being above light level) was getting a team to do it cause everyone hated the raid.
@@joshuauntch Meanwhile my nephew got VERY screwed it seems. He has about 300 total raid clears so far in D2, yet he ONLY owns DIvinity which is quest based rather than luck based.

WHEN I GET A GOOD FIRETEAM. Spire is one of the worst and most painful raids to run when your fireteam is full of idiots and one guy who lies of running spire in a kwtd lfg. The loot in spire is pretty eh, but the sidearm is pretty fun to use though. I really wish more people would run spire since I always have a super fun time when ever I’m in a good fireteam.
Edit: I forgot to mention I love the concept of spire, leviathan was like a game show where you prove to calus your worthy of his weapons and respect, eater felt more like a test to prove your worthy of being a shadow, and spire felt like it was your first mission for calus.
it really is a fun raid but when you have to teach people or learn it it just is not fun.
@@sqrungle it’s a damn shame that teaching spire is so bad that no one is will to join and create a fireteam for teaching, and I fell like spire would be way more popular if spire wasn’t so pain to teach. But I also like how difficult spire is, the loot while not good is more of a symbol of you or someone betting the hardest raid in destiny.
@@sqrungle whipping to cost so much more with noobs than with people who kwtd, when I’m play with people who kwtd and are good, whipping cost a few extra minutes, but when you wipe with noobs, it cost you far more since you probably spent a lot of time getting to where you where and it doesn’t help that spire is so glitchy.
@@mulliganlounge6912 Eh the raid really isn't THAT difficult, especially nowadays. It's just that some people go full smooth brain panic mode as soon as they need to do a mechanic. The amount of people including my clan that go full retard as soon as they get the ball is simply baffling. I personally think it's the second most fun raid in D2, Last Wish with legit Riven being first. Nobody ever wants to those just for fun though.
Doing this raid was hell for MMXX, I put a Kwtd post up as in “I’m not waiting around for you to watch the 15 minute datto guide on the boss” and I get people who say I did this raid 2 years ago once and don’t remember any of the encounters
I played this for the very first time a few weeks ago and I loved it. Played with 5 other players I know, but only one had a full completion (which was a loooong time ago). We figured it out and had a blast; so much fun, but then again, we're all rolling with the meta, so I can imagine how difficult this was at launch/shortly after launch.

I've seen and taught countless good raiders how to complete SoS. This was one of my favorite raids, probably because of how difficult it was for most people.
I remember playing all the way to the end of this raid very few times, maybe even as little as once. I don't recall ever even finishing the boss fight; and we all tapped out due to it taking so ungodly long to keep the team around long enough to beat it.
Took me and my LFG squad 8 hours to beat Final boss. Now that's called a world's first.

I agree, I've never liked story missions turning into strikes. It feels like I'm being shorted content that could have been there. I also don't like old D1 strikes coming back into the game, unless there's a story reason which makes it feel less cheap

I love this lair, every encounter is fun and the final boss is just a riot. Figuring this one out was really hard but I loved every minute of it.

Because Bungie was preparing for Beyond Light, all the Leviathan raids, Black Armory, and other questlines associated with Titan, Io, Mercury, Mars, and the Leviathan were gonna get vaulted anyway, so there was no point in fixing any potential game breaking or RNG abusive bugs. However because the Moment of Triumph 2020 requires ALL 5 RAIDS to be complete during Season of Arrivals, that means everyone that wants the triumph have to revisit these raids, bugs and all. Yes, that means reliving the pain everyone went through just to complete them once, and Bungie didn't even bother to at least fix them one more time so they could be doable and not a fucking nightmare. This was on Bungie, not the community.
Leviathan is what i consider to be the most perfectly balanced raid. The scenery and atmosphere are gorgeous, everyone was given a task, and even though there was a challenge, all the clues were there.
Eater of Worlds is practically brain dead, except for the boss, but after a few run, Argus becomes easy.
Spire of Stars is broken as fuck and you have to pray the game doesn't decide to just kill you all of a sudden.
Crown of Sorrow was doable, but also confusing because of the blessed/nonblessed polarity requirement. Hell, i needed a gamer who was also a teacher for 10 years break it down for me. Next round, i understood and stepped up.
Scourge of the Past has excellent atmosphere, but also easy to get lost in. Plus ads are abusive, especially snipers. However the best pay off was Insurrection Prime, which was basically Destiny's version of a Metal Gear!!! SERIOUSLY, LOOK AT IT!!

I remember this time in D1 when my clan was trying to do the Aksis challenge in WoTM. We were stuck at the boss for 12 HOURS, A bunch of people left and had to be substituted in and out. And in the end we STILL didn't even beat it. Even AFTER we gave up on the challenge and tried to do it normally on hard mode
I think this is one of my favorite raids because of visuals, mechanics, and how precise you and your fireteam had to be with the timing on the last encounter. Sure it was hard but man I fell in love with the difficulty.
Statue Garden gave me the “Raises a Toast” emote on our first run through. I always remember that encounter fondly

Honestly on a sidenote about Warmind using the final story mission as a strike...honestly I don't mind it and sort of think if done well it can give some further replayability/incentive to the finale of the story?
It could be because I am used to MMORPGs like the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with a free trail that lets you play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward Expansion for free with no restrictions on playtime....(Yeah I had to make the joke)
But giving a bigger "Boss" presence and bigger breath to add to the scale of a finale in a story helps it a lot IMHO.
Yeah FFXIV has their "Trial" encounter type (Pretty much imagine a standalone raid boss in a unique instance to itself), which it usually caps the expansion with, but that Trial is preceded by a gautlet of a dungeon taking you physically to the spot where the fight against the final boss of the expansion takes place.
And unless Bungie decides to do that sort of thing (would be 100% down for that, would give more raid-like encounters and help players ease-in to the mechanics of raid bosses for proper raids), making it so the final boss is within a grand Dungeon/Strike like encounter would help give that sort of scale to the finale of the story.
EX: Red Wars' Finale...But if it were designed as a Strike/Dungeon.
You'd start in the city in the middle of the conflict, the Journey OST playing in the background as you'd make your way to the route to get onto Ghaul's flagship, fighting through waves of enemies while parkouring through the city. You'd encounter your first major roadblock with the first boss of the instance, say Ghaul's 3rd in command (2nd being the Consul).
You beat him with him having his own encounter (Maybe him operating one of the big ships we see in The Arm's Dealer strike?), and then proceed into Ghaul's flagship and then face off against Lightbearer Ghaul, the fight being built around trying to jam/deactivate the light-filtering machinery on the arena to knock Ghaul out of his super(s).
Then after beating Ghaul, he'd transform into his Light-Avatar form in a hail-marry by overlaoding the arena, it leading to an Oryx or War-Machine like encounter where you are on the sides of the Traveler's cage and have to break it before Ghaul can kill you, and maybe even the Traveler, the encounter clearing with you weakening the cage enough for the Travler to break itself free.
That sort of gameplay storytelling is very difficult to make for a solo-instance without being very handholdy, which is a thing that limits boss design for the single-player focused campaign missions.
Heck, I would be a bit sad if the FInale of the Light/Dark Saga in D2 was in a standard story mission as it'd underplay the heck out of The Witness.
Although that does give me the idea of having a 6-man encounter against the Witness to weaken him, followed by a 1 on 1 final showdown ala FFXIV's trend lately of having a Trial followed by a Solo-instnace.

Yep. That's why I would only allow a max of 2 noobs on the team. 3 could derail everything too much for the others to make it up. This is the raid I have attempted the most and completed the least I would say.

i went through all the raids recently as they were going away, with four first time and two people know whats going on, the last part took about two hours. Thanks to those two guys who were so patient with everything.

Spire, my bread and butter. i joined D2 in jan 2020, first raid was spire and then got my 5 man flawless in feb 2020. over 200 sherpas. this raid is love.

The other sunset raids don’t make me as sad (though scrounge is way good) but man, I miss them and hope they will come back soon because 2 D1 raids have so why not bring these guys back? I loved the look of the Levi gear and would like to see some random rolls and adepts (with the prestige look/glow)
I sat and thought about that first question as a D1 vet and excluding D2 I was surprised I landed on Vault of Glass. Kings fall and Wrath exist but being blind going into VOG was a nightmare. Most randoms couldn’t make it through gorgons consistently

I must admit, Val Ca'uor is personally one of my favourite raid bosses. Everything about him seems spot on even his name is cool.
There is a reason i only have like 2 clears on normal and 1 on prestige, prestige was for catty and i hated doing val because of how buggy the balls were and bungie never fixing them completely

This actually isn’t true. Calus has a line of dialogue in this raid that refers to Ca’uor as ‘him’. Also Destinypedia has him listed as ‘male’.

But i never had this experience, there was always a fresh player, someone who did it the first time, someone who isnt that great of a player so always doing the job of 2-3 people makes it hard 😅 loved it tho, most of the time it was friends i helped and it also proved myself worthy of carrying some dudes

Warmind will always be on of my favorite expansions getting things like sleeper, Polaris and whisper was one of the greatest feeling I’ve ever had in Destiny combined with the story of warmind I thoroughly enjoyed it
If there's even one thing that Destiny will go down in history for, its Raids. Its the main reason I always come back, no matter how long the hiatus
Loved this raid. Didn't get into it until it was going to be sunset. Ran it at least once weekly for the Sleeper Catalyst at this point. Trolling new people with the explosive charges and the red plates was always a blast.
