This video was absolutely beautiful. There have been so many ups and downs with Destiny over the years but I'm glad to be part of this wild ride and like you said, the memories that we have made will last a lifetime.
I've only just jumped into the world of Destiny and this video was unfathomably helpful in understanding how the game got to the point at which I've just joined. Informative, engaging, witty, and the work you put in is so evident. Thank you so much!
Crazy to think that, when Taken King launched, I was 15 and in my final year of middle school. It's the first time Destiny caught my attention since the live action trailer looked badass to me. I'm 23 now and looking forward to Lightfall, it's insane how fast time has gone by-
Same bro I played the Alpha for destiny 1 and ran Titan all through everything. I played it with my cousins every night and I’d be staying up til 5 am on school days trying to beat Aetheon since we always wipe lmaooo. Then I met my second raid group randomly and I ran with them almost as much as my cousins, I miss them man they were hella cool and every night with them would always be hella funny. I was 14 when I started, freshman in highschool. Now I’m 23 and I’ve been out of highschool for about 6 years now it’s crazy. Btw Destiny 2 will never compare to Destiny 1 idk what it is but I feel like the adventure in D1 was a lot more magical compared to D2 where imo is kind of dry.
Honestly, I realize how much fun I've had playing this franchise since it came out, and I have to consider it one of my most treasured game universes of all time. I'm still playing today, and have been pretty much continuously since the First Look Alpha, and that has to stand for something!
This is so well-made, this will definitely reach multiple million views, at least after lightfall’s launch. This is the highest quality Destiny story video, I can’t imagine all the work done here. You even made custom subtitles for a whole 2-hour video. Nice work, love it
Being a newer player, and reaching the point of teetering between uninstalling and persisting with the grind, I find this video to be extremely important. Sometimes we forget the past, and we grow accustomed and entitled to the present. Watching this has allowed me to gain a greater appreciation of the amazing strides the game has made sense it's initial alpha release.
I played D1 since the beta and pre ordered the game, i've played this saga since day 1 and still playing D2 till date So many memories, this game helped me when i was in a really bad moment of my life so it has a special place in my heart and i really don't want it to end or stop getting new content but i know someday it's gonna happen
One of my favorite things was seeing someone level 32 (I joined in Dark Below) and everyone would rush to them to inspect them and look at their gear. No one does that anymore. It was marvelous🔥🙏🏽
Man, I miss DeeJ. He was such a good community manager and the old streams revealing house of wolves, taken king, rise of iron are such fond memories. Being a gamer since a little kid I love that Destiny has kept me in it since the D1 Beta. No matter how old I get Destiny will always mean a lot to me between meeting new people, iconic moments in gaming, etc
I just returned to destiny for the first time since the black armory, it’s been nothing but fantastic since I have returned, this video is fantastic, watching how the game has evolved throughout the years! Great job
cant put into words the feelings i got in the first 10 minutes, the silence before the opening screen music brought a tear to my eye, seeing the trailers i watched on tv as a kid, remembering telling my parents about it days before launch and waking up to the game on launch day, downloaded and ready to play on my ps3. Fast forward 9 years later, i still wake up every day and hop in a match of crucible or do an refurbished d1 strike. Cant believe its almost been 10 years now, how far we've come, regardless of how much hate people put toward this game, I will always be a guardian at heart.
The original destiny main menu almost brought tears to my eyes. The close friends I’ve made and the escape I had when things got tough in the real world when I was younger. Destiny got me through a lot of tough times to get my mind off things and it will remain the game I will hold dearest to my heart. I love destiny 2 but nothing compares to how destiny 1 was.
That last scene got me choked up. Man this game has had some frustrating moments, but I sure do love it. Your video reignited a love for guarding the light. Thank you!
Hearing the destiny 1 theme ring out through my ears from my speakers again after years of memories and hours spent grinding the game with my friends everyday after school it brings back so much nostalgia
The nostalgia music intro @ 4:59 will forever be etched in memory as we guardians banded together, and took to the galaxy to be become legends! 🥲🥲🥲 Say what you want about this franchise....through all of its ups and downs, it is truly a masterpiece.
Picked up playing again when beyond light came out, took a break during witch queen, and picked up again last week. The beginning grind is satisfying doing nightfalls and vanguard strikes
This game made me realize the love for games. I made friends when I didn’t in real life. In my lowest point in life I had destiny I don’t know what would’ve became of me if this game didn’t get me through my lowest point in life ❤️ thank you bungie and all the people I met!
As a player who has played destiny since 2014, I just wanna say this video was a beautiful reminder of what once was... this game was the pinnacle ( no pun intended) of fps mmo and I don't think it will ever be topped, I feel sorry for you if your a gamer and you missed out on the first 5 years of this game it was really that good...
I started my journey with Shadowkeep and I honestly regret not starting out in 2014. This game means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to the years to come.
I watch this video at least once every three months. Always takes me back and brings a tear to my eye. What a beautiful experience this game was and the community it brought
Taken king still gives me goosebumps. I've made so many friends in this expansion and so many great memories, that's why I live destiny franchise so much. The epic moments.
10 minutes in and im actually crying. thanks destiny for everything you've given me this far. I cant wait to continue this journey. I still remember buying Gjallarhorn week 2, because I didnt have an exotic weapon yet, and thinking that I had wasted my strange coins on a useless rocket launcher... boy was I wrong. Thanks for the memories, im happy to be a part of the destiny community.
Wow. Just wow. I don't think I have ever spent 2 hours of my life watching a documentary about one of my favourite video game franchises. This video was exquisitely crafted, full with accurate and spot-on information from the franchises history. Bravo Shadow, you have a new subscriber!
I stayed and played it all. All of it. Every last strike, raid, patrol. I’ll never give back the memories of being alone on Mercury. Everyone left and I still marveled at the universe. Sometimes I would just go to some planet like Nessus and walk around looking at every detail. I still do from time to time. No one could have peeled me away from these experiences.
When I was a kid, the PS4 had finally dropped and my dad bought one for himself. Eventually he had pre-ordered Destiny and played the alpha, he would never play anything else for the majority of the time. (he still plays to this day) What's funny is that I had nothing else to do, so I'd watch for hours as he'd farm the cave, eventually he bought the Red Death and Gallahorn. Once the Crucible Map Expansion dropped, he'd stay on all night trying to improve. I never really played the first Destiny much, yet I can recall every single detail mentioned in this video.
I've been playing Destiny since the Destiny 1 beta and you captured what it was like to play Destiny 1 back in the day SO accurately. When that Destiny 1 OST started to play, all the memories just came flooding back in. I wish I could just go back for 1 day.... Thanks for this video 😥
Hey I'm a new player I just started destiny 2 a few days ago. To think being called a "New Light" was something I never picked up on until watching this video. I honestly can't belive the impact this game has had on the gaming community as a whole I hope this game never dies especially when fps and battle royal games are still on the rise. Something I've realized while playing this game is the community, as a person who has only played fps and battle royals with thier toxic community's and massive egos, I was thinking d2 would be the same. But it wasn't every player I've met so far in this game has been incredibly nice and helpful. Cheers to you and this game 🥂.
The dark times that destiny has kept my mind off of truly made me emotional rewatching all the nostalgic content I took for granted. Sleepless nights farming gatekeeper for exotics lol, taken king being my first raid, and pvp being so simple uet effective. Thank yiu for this masterpiece of a video, new light and veteran players MUST watch this
That vanilla D1 start up screen gave me CHILLS. The experience of this game, no matter how grindy it was, I don't think can be matched ever again for me.
it was SO much bigger than black spindle. it was a whole community event outside of the game solving a puzzle, and it wasn't mentioned. I'm very surprised how that was skipped over.
I think that this is going to forever be a hot take based on everyones reactions, but I always liked it when loot was more rare. I liked how greens and blues would still be something you had to go and decrypt. It added a lot to that special feeling when you finally got some legendary gear
I haven't played it for quite some time now. But seeing the original startup-screen and hearing that horn section play still gives me the goosebumps. What a great game this was/is. Thanks for your hard work of putting this thing together. Two hours packed with nostalgia. Loved it! Keep it up ❤️
Watching the full retrospective got me emotional many times. I started playing Destiny after the release of House of Wolves and even though there were lows in the franchise, Destiny helped me get through some pretty rough times irl. Thank you for doing this, this was spectacular and definitely THE best recap out there!
And yes I brought the ghorn in week 2 ....... It can't be over stated just how powerful it was my only reference is that big cabel boss took like 4 rockets😮
Dude! That was insane! From a D1 player, I've taken breaks from both games and am pretty happy with the direction D2 is taking. Thank you for the hours it took to put this together as it filled some holes in the story I had, even though it was merely an overview! Awesome content! Subbed!
This video is just something else. The quality is over the roof - I really hope this is getting millions of views, cuz we need high-quality destiny videos like this!!
This legit made me tear up. I've made some of my closet life time friends and recently lost one that I considered my little brother. He was killed at work last month and was so excited for the new expansion coming out this year. I almost deleted my account over it but want to play it for him. Destiny has giving me so many memories and I even have the warlock symbol tattooed on my neck and was a vanilla player of D1. As much as it frustrates me at times I don't think I could ever leave it behind. Great video truly appreciate you making it. Watched from beginning to end
my condolences and dang man i didn’t want to tear up today😭 please play it for him as he will probably be watching you play it from all the way up there
And that unhealthy relationship is why this game charges for every bit. No company has shit on a fan base harder than Bungie and will continue to do so.
@@ShadowDestiny yea if i remember correctly it was a launch event the day before servers opened (edit or like a week, was pretty close). I followed up with datto i believe ever since, crazy to think that now we are towards the end of our fight now, wow just wow
Very well done. The part of the video where you used Journey/Lost Light dying explanation of COO was perfect. It nailed the tone of the communities collective tears as so many Guardians logged off then and never came back. I have friends who still to this day refuse to play or even discuss Destiny because of the “Two Tokens & a Blue” meme…
Brought back so many memories, such good work. If I could point one thing out, you could’ve also mentioned when primary weapons received infinite ammo. Might be small but I remember it being enough to make the game feel much better, for sure
I don’t play the game that much anymore but this video hit hard. I’ve played since Beta and living through that feeling again in this video was amazing! Keep it up Shadow ❤️
Thankyou for this huge nostalgia trip, me and my dad been playing this game consistently since the first look alpha & while his skills have dwindled in his old age he still loves playing it every single day, we've made lots of great memories on this game with my family and friends :)
I remember being 9 years old and following every little sliver of info about destiny 1 before it’s release. The artwork, the trailers, all of it. It was just the definition of childhood wonder and I still love this franchise to this day (even when I don’t) thanks for making this!
A huge tear drop came up instantly into my eyes when the first D1 intro came in. Damn I really enjoyed those times, it was my first game on my PS3, played it every day after school, makes me wish to relieve those times. Although now I play D2, it's very difficult since I lost most legacy progress, yet I enjoy it as always despite sometimes I get mad 😂 But damn, Destiny Franchise became one of my favourites, always in a special place in my soul. I really want to play every single stage of this franchise back again.
Amazing work putting all of this together!! You can tell it's coming from someone who actually experienced each one of these moments in the game's history

This video makes me so sad. Knowing we’re coming up on the final DLCs for destiny 2, it’s so crazy to look back at everything that’s happened. I remember beta testing destiny 1 with my brothers and completely geeking out. Whatever happens after destiny 2 comes to an end, I just hope that I can find another game to follow along with for years like I could with this one.
I played the shit out of D1 and D2 years ago and was thinking of getting back into the franchise. You mentioning the grind completely changed my mind. I can't believe I'd forgotten that the reason I stopped playing was how bad the fucking grind was. I appreciate the video! Thanks for reminding me how fun it was, and how frustrating it could be.
Thanks for watching. The game is actually less grindy than ever before imo, you can craft all the best weapons and then never grind again. I actually kinda view it as a problem lol, but if that sounds good to you then the current game would probably be perfect for you 😂
@@ShadowDestinyCouldn’t agree more, my dude. Why farm prophecy for the perfect Prosecutor when you can just craft a perfect ammit? 🤷♂️ It’s unfortunate, really.

Crazy to think that, when Taken King launched, I was 15 and in my final year of middle school. It's the first time Destiny caught my attention since the live action trailer looked badass to me. I'm 23 now and looking forward to Lightfall, it's insane how fast time has gone by-
15?????!!?? In your final year of middle school? Homeboy what?
We’re in the same boat lol
15 in middle school? did you get held back?
Not everyone is from the UK or the US
Same bro I played the Alpha for destiny 1 and ran Titan all through everything.
9 years later and I'm still playing this game.
I played D1 since the beta and pre ordered the game, i've played this saga since day 1 and still playing D2 till date
So many memories, this game helped me when i was in a really bad moment of my life so it has a special place in my heart and i really don't want it to end or stop getting new content but i know someday it's gonna happen
No matter how old I get Destiny will always mean a lot to me between meeting new people, iconic moments in gaming, etc
literally teared up in the first 10 minutes, god what id give to go back...
I just returned to destiny for the first time since the black armory, it’s been nothing but fantastic since I have returned, this video is fantastic, watching how the game has evolved throughout the years! Great job
thank you!
33:48 I love the idea of a legendary, immortal gaurdian running away yelling nope as a giant boss appears
It’s so crazy how some of this things are so recent yet they already feel so nostalgic. Like I almost teared up with the Forsaken title screen.
me too
No wonder its like 4 years ago man
even not being a D1 veteran and just a fairly new D2 player, seeing the footage and hearing about D1 feels nostalgic.
cant put into words the feelings i got in the first 10 minutes, the silence before the opening screen music brought a tear to my eye, seeing the trailers i watched on tv as a kid, remembering telling my parents about it days before launch and waking up to the game on launch day, downloaded and ready to play on my ps3.
Nostalgia hits like a truck...
And to that, we saw the original image of the traveler in the last cutscene of the current season
This game made me realize the love for games. I made friends when I didn’t in real life. In my lowest point in life I had destiny I don’t know what would’ve became of me if this game didn’t get me through my lowest point in life ❤️ thank you bungie and all the people I met!
❤️
As a player who has played destiny since 2014, I just wanna say this video was a beautiful reminder of what once was... this game was the pinnacle ( no pun intended) of fps mmo and I don't think it will ever be topped, I feel sorry for you if your a gamer and you missed out on the first 5 years of this game it was really that good...
I started my journey with Shadowkeep and I honestly regret not starting out in 2014. This game means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to the years to come.
Doesn’t matter how late you started brother, it’s matters that you get to experience this amazing game :)
Literally a game I've played for over half my life from Christmas of 2014 to January 2023 so glad I found out about this game.
Got me a little choked up.. Last 10yrs have been quite a ride. I miss the early days. Thx, Shadow.
❤️
I was 13 when I started Destiny and I haven't stopped playing since. These games have been the biggest part of my life.
The amount of nostalgia I experienced throughout this video was insane. Very well made
Wow. Just wow. I don't think I have ever spent 2 hours of my life watching a documentary about one of my favourite video game franchises. This video was exquisitely crafted, full with accurate and spot-on information from the franchises history. Bravo Shadow, you have a new subscriber!
I’m nearly crying. D2 is my favorite community based game, and seeing the story I missed out on is almost too much
I stayed and played it all.
You missed alot, guardian. But we are honored to have you with us now.
Your dad is that stereotypical big brother that never gives you a turn on the ps4 😂
@@D201-o4k For real dude.
Rarely ever got a chance to play on it because he was just grinding raids all day lol
I've been playing Destiny since the Destiny 1 beta and you captured what it was like to play Destiny 1 back in the day SO accurately. When that Destiny 1 OST started to play, all the memories just came flooding back in. I wish I could just go back for 1 day.... Thanks for this video 😥
me too bro. i was 6 years old waiting in line at game stop. 16 now. this video brought back so many memories.
Cheers! Thanks for sharing your story
46:39 The insane puzzle within the raid to start the Outbreak quest was one of my fav moments on Destiny. It was on par with black spindle for me.
it was SO much bigger than black spindle. it was a whole community event outside of the game solving a puzzle, and it wasn't mentioned. I'm very surprised how that was skipped over.
I think that this is going to forever be a hot take based on everyones reactions, but I always liked it when loot was more rare. I liked how greens and blues would still be something you had to go and decrypt. It added a lot to that special feeling when you finally got some legendary gear
yeah personally I'd agree, nowadays 99% of loot is worthless.
@@ShadowDestiny and its all shit legendaries
agreed. exotics are handed out for free now and 99.5% of legendaries are useless
36:12 the taken section hit the nail on the head and it’s exactly why the dlc will forever be peak destiny for me
❤️❤️
I haven't played it for quite some time now. But seeing the original startup-screen and hearing that horn section play still gives me the goosebumps. What a great game this was/is. Thanks for your hard work of putting this thing together. Two hours packed with nostalgia. Loved it! Keep it up ❤️
You really shouldn’t see how much despise the community gives it now, it’s enough to make me cry, how much the community has shunned bungie…
@@glitchmob1497well to be fair bungie now is not the same as bungie back then
Watching the full retrospective got me emotional many times. I started playing Destiny after the release of House of Wolves and even though there were lows in the franchise, Destiny helped me get through some pretty rough times irl.
Thank you for doing this, this was spectacular and definitely THE best recap out there!
Thank you Victor
I first played during the alpha /beta the intro to this actually made me tear up a little destiny 1 was one the best times in gaming
And yes I brought the ghorn in week 2 ....... It can't be over stated just how powerful it was my only reference is that big cabel boss took like 4 rockets😮
This brought tears of both sorrow and joy to my soul. This was always our Destiny.
Still get goosebumps watching that live Action Trailer like it was for the first time, so much Nostalgia Destiny has been a Journey💯
the biggest mistake was to remove the old planets/storys... I miss the forsaken with Spider....
Dude! That was insane! From a D1 player, I've taken breaks from both games and am pretty happy with the direction D2 is taking. Thank you for the hours it took to put this together as it filled some holes in the story I had, even though it was merely an overview! Awesome content! Subbed!
Glad to hear it!
This video is just something else. The quality is over the roof - I really hope this is getting millions of views, cuz we need high-quality destiny videos like this!!
Thanks so much man. ❤️
Sorry for your loss
Jesus loves you ❤
didnt know 2 hours and 16 mins can fly by so fast, what a great and nostlagic video thx man
THAT IS SO COOL SEEING MYSELF AT 7:54 DUDE WOWWWWWWW I REMEMBER THAT DAY LIKE IT JUST HAPPENED IM LITERALLY TEARING UP
wow that's crazy! Was that like a launch event?
@@ShadowDestiny yea if i remember correctly it was a launch event the day before servers opened (edit or like a week, was pretty close). But after hearing about destiny back at e3 in 2013 i was hooked instantly, there were at least a couple thousand people that were all in the same boat, i even still play with someone i met that day. I followed up with datto i believe ever since, crazy to think that now we are towards the end of our fight now, wow just wow
I have 100% totally watched this whole video, but still can approve its a banger
Man D1 has so many good memories for myself. Nothing can top being VOG for the first time. What a magical experience that was
Very well done. The part of the video where you used Journey/Lost Light dying explanation of COO was perfect. It nailed the tone of the communities collective tears as so many Guardians logged off then and never came back. I have friends who still to this day refuse to play or even discuss Destiny because of the “Two Tokens & a Blue” meme…
thank you
Watching this brought back the nostalgia. This was so new and fun, and everything was exciting
So what was the point of Destiny 2 again?
Watching this shows me how far the dev team expanded this game and although I get mad at it for bugs and shit, this reminds me how far they came.
Thank you for letting me relive my favorite parts and the parts I missed out on in D1 and D2
Brought back so many memories, such good work. If I could point one thing out, you could’ve also mentioned when primary weapons received infinite ammo. Might be small but I remember it being enough to make the game feel much better, for sure
Hi there, one year later and I'm rewatching this nostalgia. Again, this vid was a lot of hours and work in editing. Great job!
thank you :)))
I don’t play the game that much anymore but this video hit hard. I’ve played since Beta and living through that feeling again in this video was amazing! Keep it up Shadow ❤️
thanks for watching
Watched this video and it's motivated me to get back into the game. Sad to see what I missed, but I'm glad the game is thriving so well.
Thankyou for this huge nostalgia trip, me and my dad been playing this game consistently since the first look alpha & while his skills have dwindled in his old age he still loves playing it every single day, we've made lots of great memories on this game with my family and friends :)
We need an expansion focused on the Tigerman
LOL that would be amazing!
Although now I play D2, it's very difficult since I lost most legacy progress, yet I enjoy it as always despite sometimes I get mad 😂
But damn, Destiny Franchise became one of my favourites, always in a special place in my soul. I really want to play every single stage of this franchise back again.
Amazing work putting all of this together!! You can tell it's coming from someone who actually experienced each one of these moments in the game's history
This video was honestly so meaningful to me. Thank you for all your hard work. There was a fair bit I forgot about over the past 6-7 years and a fair bit I loved revisiting in this video. The memories and nostalgia mean a lot to me.
This comment means a lot, thank you
thank you so much for this video. i’m like 7 months late to this, but being able to relive those crazy nostalgic moments was indescribable. you’re work here is appreciated, friend
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, the effort that went into this and the quality is insane. Good work SD!
It’s unfortunate, really.
Despite many strange decisions - this is one of the best games ever made.
The insanely deep lore and interesting twists. I literally got goosebumps watching the "Witness" reveal.
Just finished farming my "Reaper" title. So i am hyped af for Lightfall.
Im only 10 minutes in but already this video is iconic. Seeing memories and moments i had forgotten about is so surreal. Great video brother🫶🏽
I love watching new players play the game. It reminds me of how magical everything was for me when I started. I was the 8 year old speaker that everyone hated, but I still loved it all.
The lore of destiny is so amazing that I can't wait to see a TV series and movies
Truly amazing video. It felt nice to rewatch this destiny journey and think back on how crazy and fun the journey really was. Props to you👏🏽
it’s crazy how 1 video game franchise had such a huge impact on my life and regardless of how the game ends i will forever love destiny
