I think it's important to wire an electrical circuit in a manner that is easy to maintain and access so when designing and installing this should be taken into account. There is no need to install junction boxes when not necessary so in domestic I would prefer to see the first method (loop in and out). Good clear explanation in this video.
Not many electrition explain them selfs properly but you do thanx. I'm running cable for spots, under cupboard lights and two ceiling rose lights all in the kitchen I like your way of connecting the power straight to the spots but because I'm doing cupboard lights and ceiling rose I got confused so I'm using junction boxes for spots and cupboard lights onto ring . Good video .
Thank you very clear and useful explanation. I’m running cables for an electrician and wasn’t familiar with this method. Think I can put my ceiling up now!
@@grantmp5365 Your light fixture should have 3 wires. Black, white, and bare copper. Attach black to black (Hot / live wire), Attach white to white (Neutral wire), and attach the copper wire (ground wire) from the wall to the green grounding screw in the box, then attach the bare copper wire from the light fixture to the copper wire in the box.
Easy to do with stud walls and plasterboard, bloody nightmare if you have cieling roses and wish to rewire to have all looped the switch...Chases will have to accomodate a minimum of 3 twin and earth cables, Add 2 or 3 way switching in the mix and maybe independant light control for double dimmers and you now have 5/6 cables to accomodate, in suitable conduit or capping... only worth considering if your doing a full renovation to be honest. Out of curiosity, do all new builds wired now adopt this method? Thanks
Note that the three vertical cables to each switch must be chased into the wall. Thus rewiring with this switch loop method requires more work as most traditional UK properties have conduit in the wall that permits only one or max two cables.
Hi. I am using the switch connecting system, as I want to install a number of downlights. This is straightforward with the exception that I want to incorporate two way switching using 3 core and earth. Where previously I would intend wiring the brown wire from the power in cable to the Common, in the video the black wire from the 3C&E is wired to Common. Can you please describe the correct wiring in this situation. Thanks
Hi, old vid but just come across it, hopefully you can advise? In my garage I have a consumer unit and out of the bottom of the consumer unit there is a cable direct to the light switch. Then out of the top of the consumer unit there is a cable direct to light... I want to extend for a new light and switch but not sure what I do with this arrangement I have?
Hi, Thanks for your great tutorial. Could you please tell me how you would wire a 2 gang 2 way switch using this method? would you need to add a fourth cable ( 3 core) if so would they all fit into a 2 gang switch? Many thanks
Am I the only person that is questioning this. Is the switch connection essentially wired in series because if the first switch is not working than the others upstream from it doesn't work too because only the first one is connected to the feed.
Great video, very well explained, but could you tell me why there is no neutral wire connected to the switch, only seen you connect live wire into switch and one out.
Hi there Sir I have a question and am asking this questions to other viewers too who already watched the video. In the video shows the real wiring with a sticker shows that previous room, light & next room. My question is that does the previous room means the connection came from consumer unit???? Please answer this question. If anyone answer this question I will really appreciate it Thanks
It can be either previous room or consumer unit, eg if the example in the video was the first switch, the label would have said "consumer unit" but in this case its coming from the previous room/switch.
Just seen this video. I want to install a brand new simple downlight in the attic. I already have downlights all upstairs. How do I go about this with wago connectors?
And all this goes from only one circuit breaker? Cuz looks like it is... In that case its not the best connection since if the cb jumps the whole house will be without lights...
Again - just part of the information required to do the job correctly. What next DIY brain surgery?? SO much info missing, stop encouraging people to do what might kill them - most house fires are from dodgy diy electrics. This work must only be done by a Part P registered, qualified electrician. It's the law!!!
I am no electrician. But your explanation and video made something i thought was rocket science look simple and clear.
After watching so many videos, this is so clearly explained! Thanks a lot for sharing 👍

the only practical and helpful video I’ve seen so far! Thank you!
Thank you very clear and useful explanation. I’m running cables for an electrician and wasn’t familiar with this method. Think I can put my ceiling up now!
Thanks for the perfectly simple explanation. Appreciate it.
just watch this video and really like it as you were very clear with your explanations.
Thank you. Your videos are well presented and very clear. Your diagrams are excellent too! I've learned a lot.
Thanks Martin
A very well explained and helpful video, top work.
Great video , I need a light under stairs I can now come off switch in kitchen thank you .
Spot on 👌🏼 easy to understand and well explained 👏
Really enjoy your videos. You clearly and simply explain the task
Thanks, you explain it brilliantly.
Just loop the line conductors through the top of the switch instead of extra connections in the wago
That’s what I was thinking 🤔
Excellent explanation 👌 👏 👍 😀
Thank you! Your a great teacher. This helped me a lot.
*You’re
Good man .useful video .clear .thank you.
This is awesome!! Just want I needed to start working on my house. Thank you so much.
How do u wire it at the light bulbs

thank you now this is what i was looking for this has been very helpful

Could you do a video on wiring an LED strip to a lighting circuit and switch please?
Good job mate, great video.
wow i found this very helpful Thank you keep up
Excellent, thank you. Very helpful👍

Thank you, very informative
If I want to use two way or even 3 way switches, how is that achieved using the last, switch connection method?
In case you want to use one of the switches of switch connection method with a dual control switch ( hall light on staircase?)..what are you doing?

I’m in the same boat. Did you find out how to do this? Cheers
@@jaesedin did u find out
What about if you need to install an extractor fan or smoke alarms of the lighting circuit? There won’t be permanent live at the pendants
Wago connectors seem alot better than conventional blocks. In some way this 3rd method of light switch wiring is easier than loop in and junction box
Do you have a video showing junction box connections please?
So to fit a shaver socket in a bathroom, I no longer have to go crawling around in the loft?
Brilliant. Very grateful
Thank you very useful.
Hi mate, can I use this for dimmer switch and how?
How do u wire it up at the light pendants
very very nice Thanks sir
hi why u not draw the neutral line from consumer unit a.k.a DB board
What did you do with the earth
Very interesting thanks
I’m wiring from the switch for down lighters but need to turn up stairs light from down and up and down stairs how can I do this?

HI Asif. the light to work needs neutral and live but switch disconnect only live conductor .There is no terminal for neutral at the switch
Q: How many power feeds can be taken from a switch? Thanks in advance.
Surely put the 2 lines into common and not in a waygo ?

Just seen this video. I want to install a brand new simple downlight in the attic. I already have downlights all upstairs. How do I go about this with wago connectors?
Now how to add one switch to light all four buld ..?
The switch live will go to bulb along with neutal from wago at switch, you will then double out of terminals at bulb 1 to 2 and so on
Fitting deeper back box got another reason. Its dimmer switching.
Where do I get the neutral wire from if my wall switch was a smart switch which required both Live and Neutral wires?
And all this goes from only one circuit breaker? Cuz looks like it is...
In that case its not the best connection since if the cb jumps the whole house will be without lights...
super clear
Not sure why didn’t you just connect both permanant lives into common?
👍👍👍👍
A good viedeo
👍
No need for junction boxes. Just go straight with the feed to the first switch and then loop it to another and so on.
Bravooooooo
Do you have to turn the power off when working with electricity.? Or can you wear special rubber shoes.?
good
MK rubbish. Why not connect your 2 live wires direct to the switch ? Its a lot of room. No need for wagos and extra piece of cable.
