Another informative video. I know these sorts of DIY vids have been done to death on other channels, but I like yours because there's no fancy sfx, loud music, annoying overdubs and other distractions. You keep it nice and simple, and that's all I want. Thank you again.
Finally I get it. Your vid is the clearest and easiest to follow of all the vids I’ve watched so far. I feel ready to tackle fitting my new ceiling lights now. Thanks
Great video. Just had a set of wires hanging down with no indication on which was switch wire, so your vid showed me how to find the right one. V easy to follow and understand. Cheers.
I'm mostly competent with Electrics but always struggle with Switches. This is the simplest explanation on YT that I've found to date and I now understand it fully. I haven't checked if you've done a two way yet but that would be epic if you could. Top work.
Thanks for the comment. Glad it's helpful and simple. I dont have a two way but I will record one within the next month as I know people find two way a little more confusing. So please keep an eye out 👍
Just used this to wire my ceiling rose. Very well explained. Mine only one 2 sets of wires so I assumed it was at the end of the circuit. Thanks for the video.
Brilliantly explained and actually performed for us novices. Now light and loop back to original form and working. Now to retry replacing switch with PIR😢
Mate honestly, you do the most clear and understandable DIY videon on YT. I've just moved in my new home and you've helped me to sort out my electrics very neatly. Many thanks!
Another great informative video,I recently fitted new ceiling lights in a friends house using the new Quikwire system and it was brilliant,so straight forward with every wire position easily identified, obviously it's more expensive for the connectors but I couldn't believe how fast it was to connect up the lights
Really enjoyed watching this video. I feel confident in giving it ago, better than paying for an electrician to do it, so many thanks you could be the equivalent to Martin Lewis keep 👍 the great vids coming
Our under stairs light is run directly from the cu, and it has been nothing but problems The previous owner didn't have a clue what he was doing and these sorts of videos are a godsend to fix those little issues that you might get a cowboy out and end up costing you a lot of money Thanks
What a great video! They say a picture can tell a thousand words, well that schematic of yours at 1:37 smashes it! never again will I look up at a ceiling rose, unscrew the cover and say..."WTF??"
Got to say your videos are great!Simple explanations and great way of explaining everything. I'm getting addictive to everything you upload!Keep up your good work and future success to you.
Great, thank you. Managed to sort out a ceiling rose and its all working. Q. The old wiring was using a neutral and an earth as a switching wire. Not too sure what was happening there. Thoughts? (I didn't touch it, left as is)
really helpful and clear video thanks! what do you do if a new light fitting in a chain only has a live and neutral in it (e.g. led ceiling lights) what do you do with the 'extra' switched live, neutral and earths? (N.B. in this case there is no earths as lights are plastic). thanks!
really good video and explanation. I am actually trying to change two Ceiling Rose with new lighting. However, the one has 3 cables and the other one two. After changing them the bulb in the 2 cables remains constantly on. But i am not sure where is the issue after making a few changes.
Fantastic videos definitely inspired me to attempt my own DIY wiring... however I hit a problem with a bathroom pir install as my existing wiring is a radial or junction box system... appreciate any help... cheers Adey...
Excellent tutorial. One question if I may; I want to move a ceiling rose around 4ft... would it be ok to extend the loop/switch wires in the loft via wago clips or would I need to replace the whole wiring?
I have learnt so much from your videos so thank you so much. I needed to change one of my ceiling roses and I watched this video and felt confidant in doing it. However, when I removed the cover the light fitting only have one line coming in to it. There is not line going out (loop out) from the circuit and it could be perhaps this is the end of the line in the radial circuit. Thing I don’t understand is , it doesn’t appear to have a connection from the switch. (Can’t see a switch live) . Anyone know what’s going on here?
Very helpful. I bought a plastic e27 ceiling rose but it has no choc boxes and only two wire entry points - positive and negative. So I assume positive goes to the central part of the e27 screw in fitting and the negative to the back section. As it's plastic there isn't any earthing connector and no wires. So can I buy lighting cable without earth included?probably only need about 50mm - or do I just use some from the old ceiling rose by shortening the drop? I'll keep it incase I want to swap it over!
If I want bedside lights and a wall light in a bedroom, do I loop in and out of these like you say with the roses, room to room. Or do I spur off from the rose in the bedroom to both bedside lights and wall light. Hope this makes sense to you.
Thank you very informative video and great Channel. Just a quick question, can I connect a light pendant straight on to a fused plug using normal flex wire. I would like to put a light in my shed,I have plug sockets in there. Would this work or booom.
If you wanted to add another light/ceiling rose to the same room and switch, where would you connect it? I'm guessing the cable to the next room wouldn't be affected by the switch.
Hi fantastic video, very easy to follow, but I have a question, I have the same set up in my lighting as you show on your video, but I would like to add another light over the other side of the room from the same circuit, but I cannot get access to the cealing rose of the existing light, to take a spure of to the other light, but I do have access to the existing cable in the ceiling from the light switch, so can I break into the switch wire and using just the switched live cable, cut that and connect onto that making a loop, so the circuit will then run from one side of the cut switch cable, down the new cable to the new pendant, then back down the other side of the new cable re connecting to the other cut side of the switched live, I think a drawing would probably help show what I mean a bit clearer, as what I have said might not make sence, any advice would be great, cheer stu
mate thanks a lot for this I was looking at this new chandelier thing wondering where the hell the earth wire goes because there's only two wires on the light system,
Hi fellow Norfolk boy! I'm looking to add additional lighting to my garage. 2 topics here. 1st,I want to add a 2nd switch to the front of the garage. Would it be easier to wire the 2nd switch into existing switch by the back door and run the 3 core and earth along the length of the garage or would it be possible to wire it into the final lighting assembly close to the front of the garage? 2nd, I kinda expect it'll be easier for me to wire up roses to carry power from one light unit to the next.
Uh oh 😕 I attempted to change my kitchen light fitting today after watching your video lol…umm now my living room lights doesn’t work and the new light in the kitchen is working but stays on 🤦🏻♀️… I had 4 wires in my ceiling not 3 but I was too invested by that time and decided to continue…
Okay, Great video. I’ve moved into an older house and all of the lights are off centre. I want to change them all to pendants in the centre of the room. I’ve had a quick look at the light fitting and it looks like it is a single wire. Where are the other two? It’s confusing!
question? I want to run about 4 of these lights from a previous light, but I want the new 4 lights to come on with the switch, where do I place the switch? im guessing on the first light?
Got a question? I'm thinking about lowering my ceiling in the hallway and put another light at the other end of the hallway. So I need a length for 1.7 ? cable in just feed it into the Rose and connect it up inside the Rose. And then have another rosa at the other end of the hallway. in connect the light up to that. If that makes sense?.
Another informative video. I know these sorts of DIY vids have been done to death on other channels, but I like yours because there's no fancy sfx, loud music, annoying overdubs and other distractions. You keep it nice and simple, and that's all I want. Thank you again.
Thanks, glad it was a help
Great pace, clarity and anti-fluff - wish all YT vids were like this. Cheers mate 👌

Thanks a lot
Well explained Video.
However It is never that easy when you are working above your head and over a stairwell LOL
That was great! Thanks
Glad you liked it!

Thank you very informative video and great Channel. Just a quick question, can I connect a light pendant straight on to a fused plug using normal flex wire. I would like to put a light in my shed,I have plug sockets in there. Would this work or booom.
Just fix a plug on the flex.
If you wanted to add another light/ceiling rose to the same room and switch, where would you connect it? I'm guessing the cable to the next room wouldn't be affected by the switch.
Just to clarify,do you connect the switch wires -neutral and L wire together with the L from the light ? So the 3 L wires together as one ?
Hi fantastic video, very easy to follow, but I have a question, I have the same set up in my lighting as you show on your video, but I would like to add another light over the other side of the room from the same circuit, but I cannot get access to the cealing rose of the existing light, to take a spure of to the other light, but I do have access to the existing cable in the ceiling from the light switch, so can I break into the switch wire and using just the switched live cable, cut that and connect onto that making a loop, so the circuit will then run from one side of the cut switch cable, down the new cable to the new pendant, then back down the other side of the new cable re connecting to the other cut side of the switched live, I think a drawing would probably help show what I mean a bit clearer, as what I have said might not make sence, any advice would be great, cheer stu
mate thanks a lot for this
I was looking at this new chandelier thing wondering where the hell the earth wire goes because there's only two wires on the light system,
Is the switch live always on even if the switch is off.
Is it vital to turn the breaker off or is that just an extra precaution???
Hi fellow Norfolk boy!
I'm looking to add additional lighting to my garage. 2 topics here.
1st,I want to add a 2nd switch to the front of the garage. Would it be easier to wire the 2nd switch into existing switch by the back door and run the 3 core and earth along the length of the garage or would it be possible to wire it into the final lighting assembly close to the front of the garage?
2nd, I kinda expect it'll be easier for me to wire up roses to carry power from one light unit to the next.
Thanks a lot Sir
Your very welcome
Great video, how would someone know which sets are coming from the previous/unit, next room & switch? A way to test that or?
If you have to ask. Get an electrician.
Brilliant. This is always something I've struggled with and you've done a great job of putting this over to us Thank you. 👍
Do you need all those connections if you are going to install LED downlights?
Uh oh 😕 I attempted to change my kitchen light fitting today after watching your video lol…umm now my living room lights doesn’t work and the new light in the kitchen is working but stays on 🤦🏻♀️… I had 4 wires in my ceiling not 3 but I was too invested by that time and decided to continue…
Okay, Great video. I’ve moved into an older house and all of the lights are off centre. I want to change them all to pendants in the centre of the room. I’ve had a quick look at the light fitting and it looks like it is a single wire. Where are the other two? It’s confusing!
If I want to have an Earth wire to my bulb (as metal casing) - do I simply add a length of Earth wire into the Earth terminal?
Thanks
Your welcome and Thanks to you too!
question? I want to run about 4 of these lights from a previous light, but I want the new 4 lights to come on with the switch, where do I place the switch? im guessing on the first light?
What happen when you connect a neutral wire to the earth instead of putting it in the live terminal
Are ring circuits still used?
Got a question? I'm thinking about lowering my ceiling in the hallway and put another light at the other end of the hallway. So I need a length for 1.7 ? cable in just feed it into the Rose and connect it up inside the Rose. And then have another rosa at the other end of the hallway. in connect the light up to that. If that makes sense?.
Get an electrician if unsure.
