You can choose to switch the video start button to other buttons (there are lots of customization options for the buttons and dials). I use button C3 as my video button instead of the red button. Switching the video button is the first step Pro's take when using a new A7s ii.
Agreed! I’m hoping more ppl stop worrying about “the best camera” and can start getting better at story telling. The camera is important to an extend but the Canon 80D can create some great images
Canon 80d vs Sony a6500? Looking to take video straight from camera cut it up, render, then post. Stuck between the two because I like the color on the canon but the sharpness on the Sony. Or would you recommend a whole different camera. Thoughts please?
Either one can do exactly that. With the A6500 you can do very little to no color grading using the Autumn Leaves picture profile (comes as a regular profile with the camera). If you don’t need 120fps or 4k but do need the best autofocus then the 80D is your go to. If you need 120fps and 4k with reliable autofocus go with the 6500.
The auto focus is another huge factor that I need (vlog). If the a6500 has a setting that gives it more color (no after effects needed) then that will definitely be the one I need.
I love the usability of my 80D but I'm contemplating trading up. Besides the fact that the A7 range is full frame (80D is APS-C), you forgot to mention the 5-axis, EVF and focus peaking. Sonys have way more features.
thanks! I have Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II AND Canon 80D, i love them both, just wish they would have more dynamic range when in outside for example. Canon 80D does NOT shoot "real flat". Like that cinestyle i have installed, it's like "software" stuff. Doesn't really give that much more dynamic range as Sony's SLog does or some others and also... FF so more Dynamic range... I am happy what i have now but still wanna try other stuff. Btw. Olympus has AMAZING sensor stabilization!!!!
you can shot 6k time lapse with the sony a7s2 but doing a true time lapse with photos ! 4k time lapse with canon 80d , just take time lapse photos and edit atfer and export in 4k because 20MP is enought to export that in 4k
Actually those were with the Sony 6500 and A7RII. The canon 80D’s built in velometer creates the video for you in 1920x1080, meaning if you try to create dolly and pan effects in post you sacrifice a lot of image quality. Also grading RAW stills is MUCH different than grading a compressed video file regardless if it was shot in LOG or not 👍
I would like to recommend getting a Samsung t5 SSD to edit your videos; especially for 4k and large file rendering. Use the SSD to store your projects "scratch disk" and "media chache" and you can render files so freaking much faster on slower machines.
They’re both really good, the AF on the 80D will be a little snappier then the A7 II, but then A7 II is full frame and you have more lens options as well
I have a Canon 550d. Its getting old now and i want to upgrade my lenses and eventually body. However I am not sure whether or not I will stay with canon and if not i would switch to sony. I am debating between the 80d and fhe a6300. I also do a lot of photography so I would consider full frame. Either way the camera has to have a good lens selection and be a great hybrid camera
atdavidlee Thanks fir the advice, since I am fine with ovf and a high bitrate 1080 of the 80D I will look towards that system. However I'll probably wait to see if the 7D III or 90D has better video features and no filter
Thank you so much, I enjoyed the video! I wanted to buy a Canon 80D and last minute i needed to compare if I should consider Sony 7Sii. based on your reviews I guess i ll go with canon. I thought would be easy to edit with after all the videos i shoot with 1080. Do you have any input for that? I have a macbook pro 2015 and I use imovie to edit them.
+hande aydınlı thanks for the comment! Yes your MacBook Pro will easily be able to handle 1080p footage from any camera really. 4k footage will also be okay to edit if you ever go that route as well.
Thank for your prompt response. They say the 4k is a little bit overrated, personally not really sure but i kinda like the 60p future being available for 30 min in this camera when i compare it with nikon 7200. I think what i understand from your video that it will not add on to much to get a sony for a not-so-pro user. Would you agree on that ?
+hande aydınlı for personal use and even commercial use (depending on the project), 4K won't necessarily create a better looking picture. Lenses play a role as well as available light and and picture profiles used. A lot of 60p and 120p footage you see is shot in 1080 unless it's a $10,000+ camera. I use my Sony cameras in 4K for all the work I do but rarely export in 4K. I can do more in post and in a lot of cases get finer details when I export in 1080.
I would like to recommend getting a Samsung t5 SSD to edit your videos; especially for 4k and large file rendering. Use the SSD to store your projects "scratch disk" and "media chache" and you can render files so freaking much faster on slower machines.
I’m on the canon eos m3 at the moment, would there be any point going to the 80d or is the improvement in quality and features not worth the money. Amazing video man!
You’ll definitely see an improvement both in stills and video if you’re into grading a lot. More so for video but you also have to ask yourself if carrying around a DSLR and lenses will fit your style as the M3 is much smaller
atdavidlee I appreciate the response man :) I’m starting to get into grading a lot more and a lot of the stuff I’ll be shooting will be vlogs. I like that the screen on the 80d flips out sideways so I can still put a mic on top and still see what’s in shot. I will admit, the m3 is a handy size but the quality would improve on the 80d. I’m starting a new series soon so I think I’m going to see how and when I use the camera to see if having a bigger camera would in a way hinder the footage. Once again thank you for the response man 😁
+MCBMOVIES I think it depends on your needs. I shoot with my A7RII and A6500 90+% of the time for client and personal videos but all my UA-cam videos like this one and select projects I'll bring my 80D
+MCBMOVIES If you do a lot more video go for the SII, I got the RII as I do photography on some projects and also for my time lapses. You can always rent the RII when you need it but highly recommend the SII if video is your main deal!
Can you do movies with RII? WHat if you do movies and do pictures?:) ANother question: If you have canon with 24. mP and sony Rii with much less megapixels but it is a full frame , what would be a difference in the image quality and a frame shot?
Not feasible for anyone to shoot an actual a film just for a UA-cam video...you do understand that choosing a camera for a film is part of the process and not a haphazard test right?
The A7SII has decent auto focus if you’re shooting at wider apertures or at long telephoto length. Don’t expect it to track subjects well, the 80D and really any canon DSLR with DPAF still outperforms any current camera on the market in reliability and accuracy for Autofocus.
Besides ignoring, or being unaware, of the ability to customize buttons on the A7s ii, you are apparently unaware you *can* make 4K time-lapse videos using the Play Memories time-lapse app. See this: alphauniverse.com/stories/create-a-4k-time-lapse/ What you can't do is create the 4K time-lapse in the camera. But you can shoot the time-lapse in RAW and from those sequences of images make a 4K time-lapse video in post (and you claim that you mainly work in post with log, so RAW is even better).
thanks for sharing. i have a question though, i have a d7200 and a d5500 and i plan to sell them both and get a replacement that will also be good in video since i find myself doing both photo and video. i was thinking of going fullframe and improve my video choosing between nikon d750 or sony a7ii but after seeing this i realize that battery life is a deal breaker for me so the 80D is becoming as an option now. i might stick to dslr's for now. can anyone suggest between the nikon d750 and canon 80d? 80D might be a better choice because of its price. if i look into canon fullframes, i can only go for a 6D for now considering the budget. i currently own: d7200, d5500, 35mm 1.8g, 50mm 1.8g, sigma 85 1.4, tokina 11-16, sigma 17-50 2.8, sony a6000 with 16-50 thanks
With the glass you own and requirements for both photo and video I would get a used 80D. That will hold you over until you want to get something more pro down the road especially with canons newer Mirrorless cameras hitting the market in 2019
Thanks for the reply. That can be a good optin for now. . . Looking forward to the upcoming 2019 models and hoping that older models' prices will go down. 😆

Love my canon 80D. It’s a great camera for anything 💯🤞🏾

Thanks for the review! I'm still unsure about which camera to purchase. Currently using a very basic G7X also :)
+Literally Anika - Travel Vlogs do you VLOG 100% of the time?
Really good video man! I'm still deciding between a Mark IV, 80D or the A7Sii
+Thomas Weinreich Films those are all REALLY good cameras lol! I'd be stuck too! What are you planning to film?
+Thomas Weinreich Films those are all REALLY good cameras lol! What are you planning to film?
I am the same. Also wondering about sony a6500, people complain about the screen not fliping, but they can always get external one?
Yes you can always purchase a field monitor which a lot of people do
So Nice of You Brother..... may I know please that which camera model has 4k in less price !?
Only the A7SII can record in 4K so the 80D I’m assuming wouldn’t be an option for you
@@atdavidlee Thanks

+Form Trends true but it all depends on your shooting style and if you’re a hybrid shooter. They both excel well in many areas 👍
Great job! I love my 80D
+Tobedetermined W. thx for the comment! Yes the 80D is soooo good!
Dude, this is video is very useful! 😊👍 great job! I just subbed! Looks like i'll be seeing you grow to thousands of subscribers in no time! 😁
+Jasper Tordilla Vlogs appreciate that! Perhaps one day haha, I'm enjoying the journey which is what it's about =D
I like your philozophy. For some people is all about the numbers, for you is a journey and that what is the most important. All the best.
Thanks friend!
This is a really helpful video! Thank you so much!!

Cheers man! I will give it a try!!! :)

atdavidlee i like it much better :) Cheers!
Thanks for the vid! Great clear content!
+ONiKONOBI TV glad you liked it!
Sticking to my 80D! Thanks for the info!
Can you please tell me whether to buy Canon 80D for my first short film will be a good decision or not ??
Same question here about filmmaking sony a6500 or canon 80D which to buy ?
If it’s your first short any camera will do. Focus more on your script, location scout, set design, wardrobe/art design, lighting and audio
Both will be fine. It comes down to if you want to deliver in 4K or not
atdavidlee does it matter this year to shoot 4k ive been searching about sony a6500 its great but lots of downside ?

Nice video btw
+Luis Corona it all depends what you're shooting and if you feel you'll use 4K in the next year or so.
+Luis Corona thx!
You can use sigma lens.
I love my canon 80d😍😍
It’s a great camera for the price 🙏
hi, which lens did you use on this video? i liked. thanks.
That was a long time ago haha but if my memory is good it was the Canon 24mm F2.8
@@atdavidlee thanks. i'm thinking for youtube setup. i thinking will buy canon 80D for this i dont know about lens anything.
i hav 80d.. i like it so far.. nice video btw , subs☺

Can you shoot a film with both and match the footage?

you didn't mention the biggest sony advantage, a full frame vs a croped sensor
(shot on 4k that the 80d can't do in 2018)
I have heard a lot positive on the 80D's auto focus. Is the A7Sii faster/ better? Does someone know if there's a big leap between A7S and A7Sii
The A7SII has decent auto focus if you’re shooting at wider apertures or at long telephoto length. Don’t expect it to track subjects well, the 80D and really any canon DSLR with DPAF still outperforms any current camera on the market in reliability and accuracy for Autofocus.
