Shutter noise isn't always irritating. I'm a sports photographer and in some cases I listen to those shutter noises to find out if that ' click' hit the right spot of action. And yes being out on a field holding a bigger camera attached to a big lens feels more comfortable than holding a small sharper cornered camera. I agree, that's a nice camera but it sounds like you're a salesperson.
Silent shutter is an option on the Sony camera. Some people may find it annoying at certain times while others like yourself find it useful. That's one of the advantages with the mirrorless because it gives both options while DSLR currently have shutter noise by default. Bigger cameras are better for those larger lenses, that's always going to be down to what the user intends to shoot. 2:30 nice try lmao. i bet you you fooled those sony fanbois pretty good. the reason why mirrorless cameras have far less battery life is NOT just it doesn't have enough space to house a battery the same size as a DSLR. the primary reason is mirrorless' sensor has to work full-time in order to give you a live image whenever you look down the view finder. DSLR's sensor only need electricity when you actually press the shutter. so mirrorless' battery life will never be as good as DSLR's. carry extra 2 batteries you say? hmm... i thought "a light weight package" is supposed to be one of mirrorless' biggest advantages? hello?

+Calvin Chann The AF is debatable because it depends a lot on the camera. Three years ago every single live view autofocus was utter crap, and you have to consider its a recent invention in cameras. The Sony a7rii and a6300 are extremely good at autofocus, even at the 5fps or so burst, as good as a flagship canon, but the first Sonys were worst than an APSC canon even when costing several thousands. The technology seems to have caught up and now its only a matter of lowering the price so it can be more widely adopted and implemented. The drain is also attributed to the EVF, but it wouldnt be an issue if they had made mirrorless cameras the size of a dslr and used the free space to triple the battery size, but they even made the batteries smaller than that of a normal dslr. The fact that mirrorless cameras might keep getting smaller is exemplary of the issue. Size is the priority so its safe to say that people will have to carry a handful of battery packs if they want a mirrorless; they wont start making big sized mirrorless cameras even when it could make it up for the EVF drain.
absolutely debatable. my a7rii in some cases out performs my NIKON D750 in many cases. Natural light focus, night time focus, video auto focus. where my 750 wins is overall speed in terms of on/off point and shoot.
There is one HUGE factor and difference you did not mention, having to pay $300-$400 each time the DSLR shutter goes out, which is only a matter of time especially if you take photos on daily basis.
@jacidstrash7399 dslr cameras have shutters which go out over time and need replaced, costing $400 after few thousand shots, mirrorless don't have that problem
@@CincyPhotography that's not true. Mirrorless cameras (with few exceptions) have shutters with finite lifetime. Only thing they don't have is the mirror and this is the part that usually never goes bad in DSLR's. Yes mirrorless cameras are nice but not for that reason.
@@krisztiantkacs no mirrorless have a lifetime shutter of 100k clicks like dslr that's why no camera stores bother to record amount of shutter clicks for mirrorless like they do dslr

At 00:51 he says "In an old school DSLR camera.." I hit stop as soon as he said that. Nothing old school about DSLRS since this video was made. In fact, they're more versatile than mirrorless. Because DSLRS are now hybrids. You can do everything a mirrorless does, but with a mirrorless you cant do what a DSLR does. Sorry, but mirrorless can never out perform a DSLR, the only good mirrorless cameras are the pocket sized point and shoot types. Spending thousands on a mirrorless which basically gives you smartphone style images, is ridiculous.
What does your DSLR do that a Leica SL2 can not do? Nothing. What does your DSLR do better than the Leica SL2? Nothing. The mechanical movement of the mirror and shutter in a DSLR cause shutter shake. Mirrorless cameras do not have that problem.
Its Sony page on UA-cam? what do you expect them to say? hey go and buy a traditional SLR? If you want the opposite to what this guy says go to Canon UA-cam page
sony owns about 42 % in images sensor market. hahahahaahhahahahahahaha and sony sensors are used by apple too. for iphone 6 and 6 plus. hahahhahaahhaah
I have my fullframe since 2007 and nothing ever broke so dslr goes for mirrorless always. And as mirrorless has crapy batterylife I would nevet switch. I am a pro photographer and need a cam that is durable and profecionall and one that I can count on to keep me going for 7 to 9 hours.
At first I didn't like mirrorless cameras because the early models lacked view finders. I don't mind that the view finder is digital as long as it's very sharp and detailed.
+Ian Falkenbury how about the adaptors are hit and miss auto focussing with canon, sigma and tamron lenses. Also some lenses give inconsistent exposures, using the adaptors of cause. Didn't mention that constant LCD and EVF contribute to the short battery life, that's basically 2 LCDs running alternately but what do you expect it's fully electronic. Sony is kicking ass in the mirrorless realm and almost on par with DSLR but not quite where it matters. I'll jump ship when they surpass Canon & Nikons flag ships and deal with the battery life. BTW the size of mirrorless cameras and lens are starting to rival that of DLSRs so I don't no how the going to continue to sell that line to the masses.
+Connor Smyers (csmyers) If have no doubt that the lag will be non existent in the future but until then lag is still lag. You wouldn't rock up to a drag race with an engine that lags because you'll most likely come last. You wouldn't want to go to a war with a weapon that lags or you'll likely end up dead. You wouldn't want your get away car to lag would ya? You know the story about bidding on eBay with internet that lags don't ya? Anyway surely you get my point.
+Connor Smyers (csmyers) it's that fast you can't notice it with the human though like you can with EVF lag. Shooting sport, the subjects already run past you before the EVFs caught up. The mirror obviously flips up faster than 1/8000 sec.
When you make a commercial that looks like a youtube review, or try on purpose to confuse people that don't know better, it does not make me want to buy Sony. It actually has the opposite effect. This whole video is very misleading, I really hope most people are smart enough to see past this propaganda.
I love that mechanical sound, that's why I choose dslr, also you don't mind whether you have darkness on the edges because of the lenses you would buy, it just fits

don't be naive, a7 is a lot more complicated and poorly laid out than your typical Canon dslr. I helped my friend get his first camera and suggested getting a Sony at first. The more he tried to figure out Sony the more he leaned towards Canon, which he bought eventually.
Lmao how could you compare a58 to a7s, are you kidding me 😂 they're on a different class. Of course they're comparing their best mirrorless to the one of best dslr on the market. Canon is most popular dslr company, and sony SLT is not that popular
1:27 what? no. somebody needs to explain max aperture to this guy. 1:33 gee, if only dslrs had some sort of live view feature i could use when it's dark. and i just hate having an optical viewfinder that's bright and easy to see on even the sunniest days. :P 3:09 dslrs have BOTH af systems you mention. 4:40 bs. 4:44 some dslrs have electronic shutters too. 4:53 some dslrs have focus peaking too. 5:26 no, you won't.
+Maltfalc you forgot to add the part where they say many professional photographers are switching to mirrorless, at 4:35 yeah NO no they most certainly are not, at least not from what I have seen anyways. nothing beats dslr's imo
+sh9683 idk but most photographers i met they prefer A7's Mirrorless, only they don't have any necessity to change from 5D's to A7's yet. But most photographers and videographers i met also changing from 60d's to Sony Nex 5T's. They just frustated on post processing again after the day of work. In Live View, we can see how the exposure directly. Mirror, No. And with dslrs, i really had a bad time with old manual lenses. Sometimes they focused differently from the Mirror and the results.
+Connor Smyers (csmyers) LMAO typical mirrorless fan to leave out the IMPORTANT details and only sugarcoat what's necessary. 1. Mirrorless EVF's are laggy. Don't deny it. Fast action shots suck using the EVF with mirrorless. DSLR OVF wins since it has zero lag. 2. It's actually a plus that DLSR's don't have an EVF. I've explained that in #1. Even the A7R2's articulating screen is completely useless outdoors. Nearly impossible to see in broad daylight. Sony uses a lower resolution LCD screen with no antiglare filter. Canon and Nikon upper end models are super easy to view outdoors due to their high res screens and antiglare filter. 3. The A6300 has been proven to not produce much faster focus than the old A6000. As usual Sony over-exaggerates focus points in advertising. 4. I agree, focus peaking is a nice feature. I would rather give that up and get far better battery life instead which is far more important that carrying tons of batteries. 5. I see you didn't try to argue that lack of native full frame E-mount lenses. Just like the guy in the video ignored as well. Haha. Sony and Canon both have over 60 native full frame lenses. Sony has under 20 choices, and many of them are either overpriced or underspec'd. Not even a handful of F1.4/1.8/2.8 lenses.
+Connor Smyers (csmyers) Actually that's in your head. Not true. You'll see some of them on UA-cam USING mirrorless as a second camera. I haven't seen more than 5 pros fully switching to mirrorless. And to be truthful I've only seen one prominent person named Jason Lanier.
If you're planning on using mirorless as a video camera you need A LOT of batteries. My A7s chews through them like crazy. However when taking photos I feel like it isn't that bad. I'd say about 30% shorter battery life than in average DSLR
Ashwin Ajay well you gotta realize a lot of electronics are on there's pre af, bluetooth, and some other things in the background running on default settings and evf so I turn a lot of those off and I usually shoot around for a good 10 hours or so
Dude its only an add. these things are fake also the autofocus is fu*ked up. the battery life is nooooo way near dslr. If you want to have a bigger battery, go for bigger size mirrorless cameras. but that means you will end up with same body size as DSLR, so wwhats the point in buying mirrorless?
anurag kumar the af is better than anything I've seen on my a6000 and I've used Canon and Nikon. You can buy two batteries and a charger for 20 dollars on Amazon. And if you want a bigger mirrorless you get way more stuff. 42 megapixels and 400 af points.

DSLR's sensor only need electricity when you actually press the shutter. so mirrorless' battery life will never be as good as DSLR's.
carry extra 2 batteries you say? hmm... i thought "a light weight package" is supposed to be one of mirrorless' biggest advantages? hello?
Discoloured Buttflaps y’all think I should get a mirrorless or dslr for shooting music videos and films?
Captain Solo well for my budget the a6000 and t6i I’m comparing but the a6000 seems to suit my needs better so I might go with that
Captain Solo oof actually the a6000 doesn’t come with a audio jack
Don't the newest Sony full frames give 700 shots
Lmao do you not have the space in your camera bag to carry two extra batteries the weight of a granola bar.
2:39 “Just shootin’ kids in the park” Yikes
They probably shot this on a dslr

I'm sorry but if this is a video from sony, why the hell are the using a canon as an example of a dslr?
Because Sony no longer makes DSLR. a900 and a850 were their last. Sony now makes only DSLT (a99, a77 etc.) and mirrorless.
Fiq Zeppy It's a DSLT.
Because Canon is inferior
Aye but you have to remember they're associating them with the term 'Old school'.. Hardly going to showcase any DSLR they've made, wouldn't want the term Old school thrown around with their own products. People will subconsciously associate then that Canon are old school. That's my thoughts on it anyway, not gonna slander their own name in a comparison.
cos canon is the king of photography, maybe
When you said "or if your just shooting kids in the playground" i died😂😂😂😂
Great job Sony, including competitors in your ad!!
xD

Biased. Love how AF goes from debatable to superior. Battery life isn't just due to smaller batteries. EVF drain isn't a big factor?
Please Which Is The Lowest Mirroless You Would Recommend For Shooting Short Films?
Thank You
+Travis Alex mirrorless has hands down best auto focus by price
+Taft Films indeed!
There is one HUGE factor and difference you did not mention, having to pay $300-$400 each time the DSLR shutter goes out, which is only a matter of time especially if you take photos on daily basis.
Wait woah… what do you mean? I’m new cameras sorry.
@@CincyPhotography right now I have two a7ii on my table with dead shutters. They can and will die.
Anyone notice how he said that mirrorless cameras having inferior AF is debatable but then concluded the video by saying that the mirrorless AF is far better?
Benton Brightwell Yup and the truth is DSLRs have better autofocus. And using an EVF in low light... it's horrible.

wow.... what a neutral point of view video...
Spending thousands on a mirrorless which basically gives you smartphone style images, is ridiculous.
nice
What does your DSLR do that a Leica SL2 can not do? Nothing.
What does your DSLR do better than the Leica SL2? Nothing.
The mechanical movement of the mirror and shutter in a DSLR cause shutter shake. Mirrorless cameras do not have that problem.

"Just shooting the kids in the park." I lost it.
Love my Sony A7IV
Durability! Pro DSLR beats mirrorless for the most part.
So true.
Yup
Why? Less moving parts is less that can break down right? No more worries about clicks? Seems like a mirrorless will be more durable?
I have my fullframe since 2007 and nothing ever broke so dslr goes for mirrorless always. And as mirrorless has crapy batterylife I would nevet switch. I am a pro photographer and need a cam that is durable and profecionall and one that I can count on to keep me going for 7 to 9 hours.
No shit
At first I didn't like mirrorless cameras because the early models lacked view finders. I don't mind that the view finder is digital as long as it's very sharp and detailed.
I switched from the 5DSR to the R5 a few months ago. Most of the button placements on the R5 are identical to the 5DSR and the switch was natural!
as a official advertisement, this video is not bad, at least they willing to talk about how crap the battery life was
Good video but it seems like they conveniently left out some of the issues with mirror less because it's Sony's video.
+Ian Falkenbury Same thought.. Was wondering till I realised it's a Sony video.
+Connor Smyers (csmyers) EVF lag, no viewfinder on cheaper or beginner ones... etc

Fun fact: used DSLRs are hundreds cheaper than used mirrorless when on a professional level.
When you make a commercial that looks like a youtube review, or try on purpose to confuse people that don't know better, it does not make me want to buy Sony. It actually has the opposite effect. This whole video is very misleading, I really hope most people are smart enough to see past this propaganda.
Well it is on Sony's own channel and not a fake photographer site. Not that confusing, bro....
I love that mechanical sound, that's why I choose dslr, also you don't mind whether you have darkness on the edges because of the lenses you would buy, it just fits
Companies should increase the size a little to make space for a bigger battery... Cheap mentality of companies.
not really fair since this explained by sony employee not actual photographer or at least common users and its like comparing canon DSLR with SONY mirrorless cameras, but for me since im just ordinary user i'd prefer mirrorless camera because it just simple, compact and still produce great picture
Afrizal Anoda hahahahahaha your so right..he is a full time sony worker not a pro..he knows photography as graphic designer knows a car with manufacturing it hahahahahahahaha
don't be naive, a7 is a lot more complicated and poorly laid out than your typical Canon dslr. I helped my friend get his first camera and suggested getting a Sony at first. The more he tried to figure out Sony the more he leaned towards Canon, which he bought eventually.
No really, you think?

Sony has created one of a kind system camera, the a7 series, but it simple won't survive the harsh climate conditions that i live in.
Could've used the a58 or something to show a dslr instead of a canon.. That makes the video look more like an ad than a comparison.

3:09 dslrs have BOTH af systems you mention.
4:40 bs.
4:44 some dslrs have electronic shutters too.
4:53 some dslrs have focus peaking too.
5:26 no, you won't.
+Maltfalc you forgot to add the part where they say many professional photographers are switching to mirrorless, at 4:35 yeah NO no they most certainly are not, at least not from what I have seen anyways. nothing beats dslr's imo
well youtube and real life are different, I know many phrotographers personally, who make money doing photography, they do not use mirrorless
2:21 sony is awesome

Great unbiased review..
That pretty much sums up all my doubts; but that 50℅ drop in battery though, that's a bummer
Thank you very much for this great video !
What's the advangtage of using DSLR over mirrorless then?
Optical Viewfinder.
That's more like a DIsadvantage
Optical viewfinder is always better.
Should I get mirorrless or DSLR? :(
If you don't want to spend a fortune buy DSLR, you'll get optical viewfinder, more lenses and much, much greater battery life.

Talk about battery, price, faster autofocus, availability and power of lenses., and ovf is true to life peeping through s mirror which is so good many photographers still choose DSLRs! But these mirrorless nail it in video
Mirrorless has better autofocus but horrible battery life (I can use my A6000 for like 30 minutes and I'll have eaten through half the battery)
