I don't look like a nerd but it always comes out when I point to Jupiter, Saturn, Polaris, Orion, Cassiopeia and on clear nights I point out Andromeda. God help you if you tell me I am wrong - I will pull out Starwalk so fast vapor trails come off of my phone as I scream in your face "Tell me again what 'Star' that is again?!!" My sister had a BF that thought "falling stars" were literally Stars that were falling to Earth. I felt light in the head and dizzy until my sister corrected him. She knew that if she didn't tell him he was wrong I would have a stroke. He tried to argue back but she yelled at him that "STARS DO NOT FALL TO EARTH AND YOU ARE HURTING MY BIG BROTHER!"

Okay. Yes. But. I gotta add. The jelly bread thing is actually just a physics thing. With the standard height of tables, a standard sized piece of toast can (when pushed off the table with reasonable velocity) only flip so many times before it land and ends jelly side down. If the table is higher than standard the toast will almost always land jelly side up. So the problem isn't bad luck or a glitch in statistics, it's physics and the height of the table. Or if ya wanna be pretentious, it's not Murphy's law, it's Newton.

The jelly-bread phenomenon is easily explained by the highly unequal distribution of mass created by spreading jelly on only one side of the bread. However, if you spread equal amounts of jelly on one side of the bread and jam on the other, you will have a roughly 50/50 chance of the bread landing either jelly down or jam down. And a 100% chance of making a mess.
