You're doing better than her since you're not dating an immoral, weird looking, weirdy weirdo who decided it was okay to abandon his family for you. And yeah, I will mention his looks. Already punching above his weight, he decided he could do better. Imagine being in a place in life where you want HIM. She needs help. Like real healing and help.

I think it's funny to us despite the context because a lot of people that would use it can see it as a way to communicate something specific. Like a lot of stan twitter clips, it's a moment conveying an emotion; awkward soapboxy jealousy. Even if that wasn't the intention or actual reason it happened. There's plenty of memes like that where they're wildly out of context, Millie Bobby Brown being homophobic is a good example of that in action. Or whatever the Tom Holland and Nicki Minaj vs. James Charles meme was. It's transformative media IMO, interesting stuff.

As a person who speaks Japanese, I call complete bullshit on "Ariana just couldn't read/write kanji yet". If she knew Japanese at even the most BASIC level she would be familiar with counters. In Japanese you can't just write kanjis for "seven" and "ring" and be done with it, and yet this is how she ended up with 七輪 (written as seven + circle. Not even like, a ring you'd wear on your finger - just a circle). If she wanted to write "seven rings", it would be "七つの指輪".
Her tattoo doesn't mean "smelly barbecue", btw. It means shichirin, which is a specific type of small grill you set on a table to grill yakitori or something.
The "fixed" tattoo is.... even worse, because it's still incorrect and now reads "small grill finger

One fan tweeted, “I respect Ariana and I want her to be happy and everything, but she was just broken after the Manchester bombing, so I don’t know why she is still with Pete, like yeah he made that joke a while ago, but like it’s not funny, it’s just rude. This is my opinion.”
Grande responded to that tweet on Thursday.
“This has been v tough & conflicting on my heart,” she tweeted. “[Davidson] uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. We all deal w trauma differently.”
“I of course didn’t find it funny,” Grande added. “It was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate.”
      [End CNN quote]
Imo this is not defending him by saying it was months ago, it is saying that she didn't like the joke but he meant well and that it was something he hadn't repeated after she told him it was hurtful it months prior. Which is a very adult way to handle a misstep in a relationship imo. Besides, surely Ariana gets to decide how she feels about her partner making a joke about a trauma that happened to her, and it's not something she has to defend to others.

For the context of Colleen being in the Thank U Next music video; Colleen Ballinger met Ariana when she was 15 during Ariana's 13 musical run. Colleen stared in a show in New York with Ariana's brother Frankie, who is in many of Colleen's vlogs. Colleen and Frankie became great friends, to the point where the Grandes let Colleen live with them in their New York apartment. They had a sister relationship, referring each other as sister's, Ariana is in many of Colleen's old videos, one video being Colleen having planned Ariana's 20th birthday party. Apparently they're still friends, but who knows they haven't been publically seen together since 2019. There's a rumor that Colleen was her vocal coach, but that's an inside joke between the two.

21:14 I think you missed a pretty important point! I was a Belieber (derogatory) so I remember this 🤓☝🏾
In 2012 Ariana had posted a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Die In Your Arms”, from his album that had come out like a month earlier. It’s a doo-wop type of song and it matched her style and aesthetics pretty well (remember the Tumblr and We Heart It girlies used to love her back in the day).
Back then, Beliebers really liked supporting covers of Justin’s music on UA-cam, probably because he started his career that same way. “Justin” watched the video, loved the cover and obviously tweeted about it to his millions of super engaged Twitter followers. His agent, Scooter Braun (also derogatory) obviously loved it as well, and in no-time, he was her manager too. That’s when the original album got scrapped - Justin’s music matched what Ariana wanted for herself and now she had the connections to make it happen.
Looking back, and knowing that Scooter handled Justin’s social media, it was pretty obvious that there was already some sort of agreement, and he was simply promoting his new artist to a new and loyal audience. Unfortunately, it was pretty smart of him. Scooter did eventually slip up in an interview that he had already known her from Victorious, anyway…
Edit, some extra info: Scooter was also The Wanted’s manager, and a lot of people at the time (people who stanned Scooter’s artists and were aware of his… antics) suspected Ariana’s relationship with Nathan Sykes was set up by him. He tried it with Ariana and Justin as well but Justin’s relationships “issues” were so public that it was kinda pointless to pair them together. Scooter was also Madison Beer’s manager, which is why I actually believe her when she said she was supposed to be in the video 😭

I recently finished listening to the audiobook for I’m Glad My Mom Died (my second time overall reading the book) and I honestly do think that Jennette is very fair to Ariana in the book. Like she does a lot to emphasize that it really is professional jealousy since Ariana came from a position of privilege she didn’t and it seemed liked at the time that everything was going right for Ariana while everything was going wrong for her.
Like if Ari and Jennette had actual beef, it’s not touched on in the book. Instead, Jennette is instead talking about her own feelings at the time.

her issues with ariana were definitely professional. they were dual stars on a comedy show and were fighting for laughs and stardom. of course jeanette, who was struggling with an ED, didn’t want to be in the business after playing second lead and struck out on a music career, would have issues with ariana, the teeny tiny and ultra talented theater kid who clearly had a bright future ahead of her. young women in general are pitted against each other and are always supposed to be in competition.

Can't stop myself from butting in re: casting doubt on the authenticity of the screenshots-- I was extremely active in the Victorious fandom during its original run and can vividly remember the cancellation drama and Ariana's comments fueling fire against Victoria for years to come. I used to get Victoria's tweets sent straight to my phone, back in the era where Twitter did insane things like texting you "mobile updates," and I remember her response. This absolutely did happen. Ariana actually did address it, though it may have been in something like a blog entry rather than an interview, and essentially owned up to her wrongdoing in this situation and elaborated that she was crumbling under the pressure of being blamed herself and feared Sam and Cat would suffer due to the perception that it ended Victorious. Regardless of this, Victoria remained maligned as the villain, and the "Victorious renaissance" in recent years proves that attitude toward her is still alive and well. While none of us can say whether the two have ever or will ever have a really authentically close relationship, they did clear the air on this and have been civil since. Obviously I can't prove myself as any more credible of a source than any other article recycling the screenshots, but I'm just saying... as someone who was a teenager deeply invested in these girls when it happened, it did happen.

But I can’t help but wonder, how many of the people who are saying this have gone through a bombing at their workplace and the overdose death of a beloved ex in the span of 2 years? That alone is horrible, but that was also after a lifetime of toxic environments, exploitation, intense public scrutiny (when she was basically still a child mind you), and more. 1:08:15 as a black person i disagree i fear this rhetoric is what boxes people in the black community who don’t participate in the stereotypes of our culture we get called “white washed” and as someone who’s been called that their entire life from how i talk, to how i dress, to my hair choices, etc it’s very annoying and irritating and if you’re gonna say someone acting ghetto is “acting black” then that promotes people not acting that was as “acting white” they’re both stupid.

As someone whos black, african and not an american. I dont find it right what she said about having a conversation with Jeffrey Dahmer and callling him fascinating. All given to her blackfishing from the past and not coming to the public about it, also asian fishing...it just doesn´t feel right. What she might have meant was how disturbing and interesting his mind might have been but its still a very sensitive topic that happened in the real world, to real families. You can make mistakes but also admit them to your fans.
Also, she herself as you pointed out on the video has had trauma because of real tragedy, so why should us now "glamorize" and give hype to cold bloody murderers?

LITERALLY TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID YES. like yes trauma can happen to rich people but that has nothing to do with her weird racist behaviors and consistent comments and actions that show she doesn’t seem to care about many people but herself. i’m not willing to give my sympathy to someone who has repeatedly shown that they do not give that grace to other people. she can make jokes and comments about jeffery but no one can say things about what she has done wrong because of her trauma😢😢. like yes rich people can have trauma, but poorer people everywhere go through extremely traumatic events nearly daily and are still nice people who don’t have habits of publicly hurting relationships multiple times. she has the money and resources for all the therapy and assistance she needs- why is she still behaving so immaturely and everyone is ok with it.

It's interesting that the tweets screenshotted of Ariana's response to Jai, in which she states, "I'm so happy now," are echoed in the intro of her "yes, and?" video.
I'm glad this video was an empathetic, intelligent review of her work and public-facing reactions to experiences of hers that are well-known, as opposed to the trigger-happy "homewrecker" sentiment that I feel has been attached to the discourse surrounding Ariana since Spongebobgate.
That being said, it does feel like she's caught in a loop of using romantic relationships as a form of escapism, feeling trapped in the reality of a long-term relationship, anddeveloping some new limerent attachment to a conveniently unavailable person.
So many of her lyrics for this new album express the sentiment that she's "not usually like this," when we all know she's BEEN like this.
It veers into magical thinking at times. Are you really the happiest you've ever been, or are you slipping out of reality again?
