Justin having to on multiple occasions tell interviewers that he was uncomfortable with the sexual comments they were making about him is something that no teenager should have to go through. That one interview where he flat out said "I'm uncomfortable, I'm 15, you're being weird," makes me feel so bad for him because it should have been obvious that adults shouldn't be talking to him like that. There's a difference between other teenagers having crushes on him and adults showing sexual interest in him. I can't believe it was on the kid to shut that shit down.
Justin did a lot of dumb and problematic stuff. But no one can deny it's a miracle he's mostly ok nowadays considering how much he went through at such a young age. The way adults treated him, espcially in this predatory way, makes me so sad for him.

Reminds me of the Quinton Reviews video about Dan Schneider. He put it really well, that there are people who have bravely come forward and talked about what happened to them. If you mix that real info with some half-assed conspiracies or "it could be possible, just think about it" it cheapens everything. And is disrespectful to the people who have actually come forward as well as the people who have not been victims who have to see hundreds of people talk about stuff that "probably happened" to them.

Excellent work Ashley! I never followed JB too closely or had any strong feelings on him one way or the other, but watching these clips of how composed and polite he was, even to downright rude and invasive interviewers, even at such a young age, I gained a new respect for him.
That’s weird on its own, but it’s even weirder when you remember how entangled he was and still is with the KarJenners. There’s allegations he may have cheated on Selena with either Kendall or Kylie Jenner, or both of them. He later briefly dated Sofia Richie, who went on to date Scott Disick. And then, of course, he married Hailey, who’s also friends with Kylie, hence the recent-ish beef between them and Selena.

I'm usually a strong advocate for 'eat the rich' and 'to hell with all celebrities' but when it comes to Justin Bieber I genuinely feel sorry for him. Yes he's rich but the shit he went through is just... my God. I don't even know how he's alive. NO ONE protected him. He was just out there being torn apart, praised, sexualized, worshiped, exploited, bullied and so much more by everyone. At one point I didn't like him because it was popular to not like him and I was a kid but when I actually listened to his stuff I realized how amazingly talented he was. He got where he was by sheer talent (and a bit of luck but yk) and seeing people discredit his capabilities pissed me off once I realized his level of musicality and stage presence. It's just so, so, so, so, SO sad that no one stood up for him, protected him, put his well-being first or any of that. Yes he's not a perfect person- no one is- but he didn't deserve how he grew up. I don't know if he'll ever be healthy after the baffling amounts of attention and scrutiny he's endured but I really hope he finds his way and can be a good husband and father.

I'm pretty sure "chronic lyme disease" is a pretty verified condition, although I'm not sure what its technically called. It's basically if you get lyme disease and its not caught or treated soon enough. I think its because lyme disease left untreated can cause long-term or even permanent damage to various systems. And I think its even fairly common cause a lot of people don't know what their initial symptoms mean, or they can't find a tick bite. A friend of mine who's a veterinarian (kind of ironic) went camping and got sick. Couldn't find a tick bite, so it went undiagnosed for a really long time. Now she has permanent damage to her immune system and other symptoms.
As a kid then and an adult now, I truly struggle to wrap my head around how adults in media and my personal life talked about this child. Extremely dehumanising and insanely normalised!

I'm usually a strong advocate for 'eat the rich' and 'to hell with all celebrities' but when it comes to Justin Bieber I genuinely feel sorry for him. Yes he's rich but the shit he went through is just... my God. I don't even know how he's alive. NO ONE protected him. He was just out there being torn apart, praised, sexualized, worshiped, exploited, bullied and so much more by everyone. At one point I didn't like him because it was popular to not like him and I was a kid but when I actually listened to his stuff I realized how amazingly talented he was. He got where he was by sheer talent (and a bit of luck but yk) and seeing people discredit his capabilities pissed me off once I realized his level of musicality and stage presence. It's just so, so, so, so, SO sad that no one stood up for him, protected him, put his well-being first or any of that. Yes he's not a perfect person- no one is- but he didn't deserve how he grew up. I don't know if he'll ever be healthy after the baffling amounts of attention and scrutiny he's endured but I really hope he finds his way and can be a good husband and father.

It was really easy when I was younger to just point and laugh at all the really popular celebrities, but it's really good to be reminded that they are also people, the amount of stuff other people pile on them? It's no wonder they kinda lose it sometimes and react the way they do.

I'm pretty sure "chronic lyme disease" is a pretty verified condition, although I'm not sure what its technically called. It's basically if you get lyme disease and its not caught or treated soon enough. I think its because lyme disease left untreated can cause long-term or even permanent damage to various systems. And I think its even fairly common cause a lot of people don't know what their initial symptoms mean, or they can't find a tick bite. A friend of mine who's a veterinarian (kind of ironic) went camping and got sick. Couldn't find a tick bite, so it went undiagnosed for a really long time. Now she has permanent damage to her immune system and other symptoms.

I've never completely gotten over my strong negative reaction to Bieber as a 6/7 year old. I did not get him for a long time and I still don't like him artistically or personally that much. That being said, the bullshit grown ups threw at him as a kid was indefensible and it's not mine or anyone's place to shame his fans for enjoying the music he makes even if I can't get to it. It's hard to blame former child stars too much for their bad actions when they were never treated well by the world.

I didn’t get into his early music because I, like many, was going through my contrarian phase. I was also too young to consume the media coverage of him (like, what middle schooler is watching Wendy Williams lol) but damn it was as inappropriate as the industry has ever treated any of the child stars in hindsight. Your video elicited in me a lot tender feelings for young Justin and his family; the scrutiny and harassment that he experienced was and still is unfair. I think we’ve become more aware of these things as a culture, but unfortunately that’s not yet enough to prevent other kids from going through it.
