I agree. This was a fantastic video. Unfortunately it didn't help me solve my problem but I still enjoyed the video.
This is how you make a troubleshooting video that pisses a person off because 80% of it is "in this video we're going to blah blah blah" filler. He spent more time telling us that he was _going_ to tell us something than he did actually telling us the information. This video could've been 30 seconds long.

That's great to hear! I also like recording internally on the camera at the same time. There's a 30-minute limit, but the quality is higher.
Great video! I need to connect my canon Eos m50 mark ii to my OBS Studio for webcamming. The cables that are in the description, will the cable work for my MAC computer? I have a canon camera and Mac for streaming.
I've never tried on a Mac, but I think it should work the same.

I had to like and subscribe because you did a superb job with the video presentation, but none if these are my issue. I'm using Mac (Big Sur OS) and the camera doesn't show up at all. It works perfectly with a Windows computer. Any suggestions?

I've been trying to use a Canon Rebel T6 (with no LCD) and capturing through the webcam utility. It does the Lagging thing you mentioned, but that fix won't help since it has no screen. Any advice?

What software are you using? In OBS I add a 100 ms audio delay.

Hi markus, I had a specific problem with the EOS webcam utility where it wouldn't let me use "configure video" in OBS. I have plugged the camera in through a capture card and I am able to use "configure video" (through HDMI, not USB connection) but this button does not work with the USB connection running webcam utility. Any Ideas as to why?
That button doesn't work for me either. Maybe because there's nothing to configure.

Hi I have a Canon EOS 4000D and it's on the list that can be used as a webcam, I'm unsure what lead i need as it doesn't have a typical usb port?
That's not a Canon model I've used. But on the M50 the connector is a USB Micro-B if I remember right.

Thank you! I have been searching for this information for ages! My problem was not that obvious. I had no idea that EOS Utility and EOS Webcam Utility are two different things! I have been using the former in the remote live view mode and capturing the window. The quality was significantly worse.
That's a good point. Canon could certainly do a lot better in the software naming department.

You say that we need to quit the EOS Utility, but do I need to have that program or any other driver on the first place?

To use EOS Webcam Utility, I believe you do not need EOS Utility.

Hi, what should be the AF settings as it is always going through the AF process when moving between the OBS scenes ?
I never had that exact problem. I keep my autofocus on face tracking, and when I switch scenes it just continues and is not hunting for focus. So long as the same source is in both scenes.

Hi I am using a Canon 80d and a Canon 600d into OBS studio at the same time, I use the screen capture on the 80D using the utility and use the Canon Webcam utility for the 600d , however the order I start it up as seems to make a difference and it seems to be temperamental when starting OBS, any advice ?
Wow, that's a creative setup! I haven't tried that one myself, so no real advice. An alternative could be to connect one of them via HDMI and a capture card.
Hey Marcus, I'm having a problem with my M50 for some reason on OBS the resolution is between 720p and 576p I've tried to change the OBS settings and still the quality hasn't improved.
I saw that other people had the same problem but I didn't see anyone talking about it... Did you have this problem?
I haven't seen any "in between" resolution. On my system it's simply 1024x576 which works great for me.

Question about the black screen.
I got the Canon M50 Mark 2 camera just last Thursday and use it today for my church UA-cam live stream. The lens is remove and I use OBS. It was working fine but couple minutes later, the black screen show up and I don't know how to fix the issue. I know the lens is remove and is there a way to fix the black screen so I don't always have to press the top button on the camera to make the video show again???

By installing the EOS Utility.
Great tips and video. I was able to get my M50 to work after following those steps. My issue now is that I cannot get audio to come in from the camera to the software in streamlabs or OBS studios with or without my boom mic on the camera. Any thoughts? Tried setting the audio within the camera first on auto and manual and still get nothing.
Unfortunately there's only video over the USB connection. Plug your mic into your computer instead!
@ Ah well that is quite handy to know haha. I shall try that next. Thank you. Hopefully I wont be opening a new can of worms by trying out the HDMI cable once it arrives later.

I have a T100 and am using the usb connection cable, would the hdmi port work if I got an hdmi to usb cable? Would the quality be better if I used that?
For a Canon camera to work as a webcam over HDMI, it needs to have clean HDMI. I don't know if that model has that.
Do you think that canon pixma printer drivers could also be the problem when it wont show video?
That one I don't know. I only use an HP printer myself.

I've been trying to no avail to get my EOS Canon 5D Mark ii to work with zoom on my Mac mini (2020-M1) computer (Big Sur 11.4) -- do you have any suggestions or am I just out of luck?
- I've updated the firmware on the camera...
- installed the latest 5D Mark ii Utility on my Mac...
- and because there is no Web-camera utility for the Mark ii, I've attempted to use a 6D Mark ii version...
- I also made sure to reboot my computer AND close out the Utility software (and my lens cap isn't on haha)...
Do you have any advice? Thanks!!!!!
From what I can see at www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility, the 5D Mark II is supported. But I've never used the setup on a Mac.
The problems I've had with Macs are quite different. For one, always remove memory card to prevent access being hijacked.

Great video, thank you for breaking this down to such an easy level of understanding. I used it to troubleshoot but I'm still getting the same issue where the camera is showing the computer icon on the camera and the "EOS webcam Utility" even after I've shut down the EOS Utility software, deacvitated it from starting in the start up processes and restarted the pc (Windows). Any ideas on why I'm still getting this error. I also checked and updated drivers on software and camera.

You can check if it's installed by going to Add or remove programs from the Windows start menu.

Are you talking about scenes in OBS Studio? On my setup it works with multiple scenes.

Need help, I'm unable to connect my m50 mark2 with mac Mojave. The screen shows a red sigh after i connect the camera.
Can you help ?

I have set my dslr at 1080p, but in obs properties it is giving me 720p resolution only, even if I put 1080p in custom tab forcefully its showing black in my screen, when i switch to 720 again, I can see the video output in obs.
2nd problem is sometimes in my camera screen I can see myself but not in obs, you showed the first method to quit eos utility where I cant find in the bottom right of computer screen,
am i doing something wrong please help..!!

Hello Markus, I have with me a Macbook Air running OBS with EOS. Some days it works and some it gives off this black screen/ eos webcam utility error. I have tried your solutions and none are working for me... Any other go-arounds I can do?

Before I found this video, I followed some other youtube channel's advice and bought a ton of accessories on amazon - like video capture card and a HDMI to micro HDMI cable to plug my EOS M50 into the capture card. It is so frustrating because Canon even markets a "Content Creator" package with accessories like the mentioned HDMI cables BUT NO micro USB cable. So Canon itself made me confused on this one because they did not recommend the micro USB solution themselves anywhere.
I tried to make things work for an hour, but when nothing helped me, I started looking for a solution. Then I found your video and learned, that all I needed was a micro USB cable. (which I do not have at home because I switched to USB-C a long time ago)
So I got myself a micro USB to USB 3.0 cable and it works like a dream. Thank you for this video!

Markus, one thing I heard and it's true is that there is a slight delay between voice and image when we use a different camera as a webcam. I would love to know if you have any tips about that. Thank you!
That has not been my experience so far. But that probably depends on the software you're using.

Having issues with a Nikon D5500, Ive got it running but theres a big black box around the entire image (oddly an earlier test I swear did not have this same box, the only thing thats changed since is my monitor). Ive had that lag issue but it seemed to not like the usb port it was in, once I changed it, it stopped. The LCD doesnt display anything. No preview. Not required but nice if I was looking away from my monitor preview. And once it was all fine (I had cropped the black box using OBS) but after about 10 minutes it just froze, seemed to still be powered it didnt boot to the nikon webcam utility screen, just a still image of me with stayed like that until unplugged an hour later. Is it just too old a DSLR to be used as an effective webcam. I would love some help cause obviously would save me either updating my camera or buying a specific webcam for streaming when all the little things Ive already picked up have amounted to so much.
I have no experience with Nikon cameras.

Thanks for the video! I am having an issue with my Canon Rebel T6 connecting to my MacBook Pro (My OS is currently Monterey 12.2.1). I would like to use the Canon as a second camera when teaching guitar on Zoom. I tried downloading EOS Utility but every time I open Zoom it is still not recognizing my camera. You don't need the EOS Utility. You need the EOS Webcam Utility.

I don't have EOS Utility Installed at all, but I always have the same issue. I see the EOS Utility Webcam logo in Zoom but, don't get any video. It sporadically opens the video after dozens( or even hundreds) of tries. Can you help with that? Thank you!

my problem is it doesn't even show up as a selectable option in obs or zoom. it is nowhere to be found. I have downloaded the software, restarted my Mac, the Eos utility shows up so I know I have it. I make sure to quit so it's not hogging the camera, but still it doesn't even show up. as an option in obs or zoom. what am I doing wrong? using cannon rebel sl3. thanks!
For Mac I don't know unfortunately.
I Have Canon 1300D the software recognise the camera when i plug it but OBS does not recongnise the EOS Utility at all. Could you help me please?
You need the EOS Webcam Utility (if your model is supported), not the EOS Utility.

That's actually how it's designed. There's no audio transmitted over the USB connection. Over the HDMI connection there is audio. But that requires a capture card (amzn.to/3wKqLwO) and autofocus isn't usable.

That’s surprising, it’s worked for me for event live streaming on the R and R6 over the usb connection alone (I do use an external microphone connected to the camera line in instead of the built in audio though)
@@vidsburgh6022 Thank you I will need to check with external mic. When i test first time i check only with built in mic and didn't have sound.
How do you get the camera audio to work on the obs screen? I saw yours wasn’t working either, just a static volume bar. Thanks
With the EOS Webcam Utility, there is no audio. That's a limitation.
@ Yep so I've found out, silly that. Going to use the micro hdmi out next time.
I am facing a whole different issue,the utility application is detecting my cam(200DMII) and also sharing the live feed,but when i am turning on the obs and adding a new video capture window I am not able to add my cam... it's just not showing any other option either from obs default cam...I am not using any camlink device just the usb and Eos utility software...any kind of help is appreciated
Weird! For me it just shows up in OBS Studio as one of the cameras.
