Apart from having the latest EOS Utility software, MAKE SURE that the Wi-FI/NFC function on your camera's menu is DISABLED/DEACTIVATED before connecting the USB cable.
At 5:30 he says there are two things you can try but he missed the most important folder. You have to click on the EOS Utility folder and this is where Canon will ask for permission to access your files on your computer and you have to type in your Mac password so it can have access to the system. Go back to your camera and follow the steps of connecting to a computer and it will tell you to open EOS and then you open it up (the latest is EOS 3). You should get a dialog box to connect and another box will open and show your camera info. if it connects. I'm using a Macbook Pro 16 and EOS SL3 Rebel but was having a hard time getting this to work and finally figured it out. Sorry if this sounds incoherent but it is 4:56 am and I haven't been to sleep. Hopefully, this will help someone. Was looking at this video for help but I figured it out and thought I'd share what worked for me. Good Night!!!

I took the tip of an earlier contributor whose post seems to have been removed. Try the T6i EOS Utility 13.12.10 4/7/2020 (not the 13.12.10a). You end up with Utility 2 which works for me. Thank you to the earlier contributor.
My situation is odd. OBS and my computer recognizes my camera thru usb. However, Restream doesn't. When I go to the drop down list for Video Input it only shows an option for my built-in camera which is FaceTime. This is really really frustrating. I want to use my camera for live streaming as my webcam and it's just not letting me do it.

The problem I had connecting my canon camera to my pc was the USB cable. You need a special type that can transfer images. It should have two bulky circles on both sides that is the right one.

This is useless for anybody who actually needs to use EOS Utility for anything other than downloading image files.. If you don't already know how to download from your SD, face palm.

download the latest software and you should be fine , unless you are running macOS Big Sur
