Chorus:
If I could only find the words then I would write it all down
If I could only find a voice I would speak
Oh it's there in my eyes so can't you see me tonight
C'mon and look at me and read 'em and weep

Rest in peace, Meat Loaf! It was an honor to grow up listening to your music
A true honour for me too. You've said it perfectly
the music was created by Jim Steinman, rest un peace both.
He's joined God's magnificent chorus now
I like to think he's in the room at the top now, forever taking back the thrill.
So I'm 2 years late too replying to this comment but yer so right. I grew up with music. I had the chance to see him live in Glasgow many years ago but couldn't. I REALLY wish i had.
RIP. Meatloaf you were unique and such a talented man. You will be missed.
Don't give him all the credit, it was Jim who made the material, if Jim didn't write the songs then meat loaf would have had nothing.
@@punkrock1989 true to a degree but not all of Meat's music was penned by Jim.
The truth is they we're almost symbiotic in terms of producing the best if each other.
Don't discredit Meat's incredible voice though, he did some fantastic stuff without Jim, equally Jim did some incredible work without Meat.
@@sonofplato agree with you. Diane Warren wrote I'd Lie To You And That's The Truth for his Welcome To The Neighborhood album, James Michael wrote Couldn't Have Said It Better, and both of the aforementioned composers produced mini-operas as good as Jim Steinman's. Unfortunately, there are quite a few scavengers to discredit Meat Loaf, both among common web users like Punk Rock and among journalists like Ms. Thea Jacobs, and they are doing it right now, because there is no one to sue them anymore. These cats want to write off all his creative merits, and the attitude to singing talent, alas, is too subjective: people who dislike his voice believe that there is no way to talk about any kind of talent here.
@@dianaraisa9420 they can only attempt to discredit him though, the facts remain.
I think we all know Meat did at times have issues with his voice, I attended gigs when his voice was absolutely on fire and a couple where he was not great (at all) but his overall contribution to the world of music cannot be diminished by a few poor souls trying to gain some twisted false kudos by trying to discredit him. He was a force of nature - and that's the truth.
@@sonofplato I know. I have audio recordings of his live albums where his voice sounds husky and not great, and live videos with the same sound. But right now these cats are digging up all the sorts of gross details from the difficult period of his life, and putting it on public display in order to discredit him and portray him as evil incarnate, while clearly writing off his creative heritage.
I read, I wept. Rest in peace, Jim Steinman.
Rest in Peace Michael Lee Aday. You are gone but never forgotten. Your voice was legendary.
I can feel the pain he releases in song.
I’m over 50 and have tears in my eyes listening to this heavenly voice sing to what I believe is just me . Rest in peace Meat .
I wish that I was in Texas around when he was I could of met him be friends & more lol
But I was born 1979 xx
Me too
59 yo...my first album...I had the pleasure of meeting him and family in CT... delivering furniture...also front row and back stage.... awesome guy Michael as he liked to be called...tears...
Meatloaf’s facial expressions give me goosebumps. This is “prime” meatloaf at its best.
Rest in piece.
Keep rocking everybody.
He is so good at acting when he sings
He dose every thing in to the song that's why I love him xx
Rest in peace, icon!!! The most underrated make vocalist in music history!!! Go find Jim and make new music in the universe!!!!
totally agree, so well said!
The joy Jim will have seeing meat loaf in heaven rock on guys with Freddie ,Bowie ,George Michael
@@marybyrnebyrne2360 george michael?!
Underrated? Definitely not. He was well appreciated and rated by many contemporaries.
@@jeffreybussmann3313 He deserved more recognition. He was super talented!!!
We'll miss you, Meat. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say your music was the soundtracks to our lives and that you inspired in us as much passion as you put into your singing. Bless you for getting me through all the bad times, and for helping me make really great times too. RIP
❤️❤️xxxx
So so true
Meat Loaf got me through many a restless night during younger, tumultuous years. The Tower of Song is shaken today. Rest in peace, old friend. You will not be forgotten by the people whose lives you touched and soothed with your ethereal gift of a voice. Au revoir.
“You’re never alone cuz you can put on the ‘phones And let the drummer tell your heart what to do.
Keep on believing…”❤️
I can relate he helped me massively tc x
You took the words right out of my mouth. No pun intended!
Amen.
Yep 🤔
Meatloafs voice is from the Gods and Angels I don't give a fuck what anyone says, truly Remarkable.
Meat Loaf..................
Who would dare say otherwise.
100%
Agreed
Well said!! He sing with SUCH LOVE & PASSION!! GOD gave him a beautiful voice and such talent!! Masterpiece performance as well!! RIP our Meatloaf and never forgotten!!
Out of all the Meat Loaf break up songs, this one has to be the best written one Jim Steinman ever did. All the words are so well stitched together and the poetic double entendres for the heartbreak and spite the song conveys are well executed. RIP to Steinman for writing some of the best ballads ever produced and Meat Loaf for delivering them with the utmost passion besides Bonnie Tyler
My heart breaks knowing such a loving gentle soul has gone back to our lord. My deepest sympathies to his family. X
There will never be another person whose voice carries more power, nor emits such pure heart and soul behind every lyric as Meat Loaf. He sang as though every song was his last, giving it his all in the name of rock opera. God bless you, Meat Loaf, you will forevermore leave us all awe inspired by your immense energy which gave way to a wonderous exhibition of raw and beautiful emotion that richly flowed through your music.
❤️❤️
Well said! You took the words right out of my mouth!
One of the most dramatic singers and best storytellers of our time! May he rest in peace with the angels. The heavenly choir is indeed much richer now. Farewell, Meat, and thank you for the music.
My heart is sad, weeps. RIP Meatloaf. Rock the Heavens above.
in my opinion he is the most underrated singer in history
Second most underrated. First is Rory Dodd.
well he certainly gets stuck in
If he was half way promoted right he would have gotten the stardom he deserves
Karise Eden.
bat out of hell is still one of the best records ever and it is his back in black,it will be around forever.
The Dead Ringer album got me through high school. I was the lovesick fat kid that pined over a girl who liked him as a "friend". Thanks Meat for the great music and RIP.
Yeah, back in the 80s I was the "special" (I hate that word!) kid who got bullied.
Dude I know how you feel
So sad to hear of Jim Steinman's passing . What an amazing composer . What a legacy he's left
Agreed. To his fans, he has written the soundtracks of our lives and helped us express the passions that fill our soul.

RIP Meatloaf!! This is one of my many favourite songs of yours.
Where have I been all this time?
Those lyrics are brilliant.
Meat Loaf's voice is majestic, and the orchestration is worthy of a classical performance.
I have just become a Meat Loaf fan.
What took me so long?
He was definitely special.

RIP Jim
Love this song! Seemed poignant with recent sad news
I don't have a clue why Meats 2nd album didn't sell fucking millions cause Dead Ringer is a awesome album!
The Classics - and in one sentence u told us all what u are about.
The Classics BS. Meat has a great deal of sex appeal.
The Classics
There's a lot more to "sexy" than looks, Classless. If you're old enough to recognize the "Classics", I'd guess you're old enough to not be looking all that great yourself.
This was his 3rd album. Bat was 2nd. Stoney and Meatloaf was first
scottsrush true !
We dont have music like this no more
Certainly don’t!
WI would give both of my breasts to see Meatloaf in concert!
I'm a huge Manilow fan, but my take on it is this: This is just flat-out one of the greatest songs ever written. Both versions are amazingly special in their own way and both men are of the finest entertainers we'll see in our lifetimes. There is no shame in admitting that you like both versions ... heartbreak is not a contest.
yes heartbreak amazing yes so emotiomal this sing
"... heartbreak is not a contest." Damn, son, what a great line!

Bat out of Hell still holds the record for highest selling album in Australia - 1.75m albums when the population of Australia was only 14m in 1977 - crazy!!!
The most underated performer in the History of Rock and Roll
Masterpiece of the universe ! Out of words !
RIP Jim Steinman. Always loved his songs wether they were sung by Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler or Celina Dion. Perfection!
Or Barry Manilow or The Sisters of Mercy etc, etc.
@@lynnejones862 In fact, everyone but Air Supply... ;)
Saw him sing that song at a concert here in South africa about 1998 or so. He blew the audience away with the dramatics and that powerful voice. Rest in peace big man.
Gone but not forgotten
The switch to his plaintive higher register at 4:15 gives me goosebumps every time. I just absolutely SWOON. There isn't another man on the planet like Meat Loaf. Raw passion and power coupled with a rare, almost fragile sensitivity and an underlying hint of something slightly unhinged. The soft hair and baby face coupled with that intimidating steamroller of a passionate voice makes him one of the sexiest men I've ever seen.
I first fell in love with the voice. Then I fell in love with the man way back when. And I was happily married. You summed it up perfectly. The tux, the face, the bedroom eyes, the passion, heart, soul and power in his voice gave me goosebumps. Why hasn't he been inducted into the American Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame? Meat Loaf is LEGEND.
He's certainly got something, one of the sexiest men I've ever seen at this time in his life. Definitely underrated....
AHHHHH I AM LITERALLY SCREAMING HERE!!! That is honestly the most beautiful way I have ever heard him described!! I am honestly crying because I have been looking for a way to accurately describe how he makes me feel when I think about him and what I think about him and his passion and you hit it on the nose! He is so sexy powerful and passionate it should be illegal! And that description was so deadly accurate it should be illegal! Like I am serious freaking so much I screenshotted your comment! You nailed it, his raw passion and powerhouse nature combined with something unhigned and wild just makes him seem so untamebale and so sexy! Thank you for describing him the way he deserves to be. Another thing that gets me about him is those eyes like UMMPH! just how WILD they can get and so dangerous looking ❤❤❤❤
I mean just watch at 1:58 MPFH
Sorry ladies but you’ll need to get to the back of the queue because I bagged him first ❤️🥰😍
Good lord. Meat Loaf just had that....voice. Beyond missed. Thanks for everything.
I think I’m responsible for the 955,801 views .. I just can’t get enough of this man .. he’s talented and sexy ❤️🎵🕺🏻🎵

RIP Meatloaf, soundtrack to my life, your genius will go on. Thankyou for gracing us mere mortals with your talent
Actor, singer, genius. A presence in the void.
Love this song. Rest in peace my man
What a voice, and what a showman! This and "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" are my favorite Meatloaf songs.
What’s truly amazing is when you see the list of songs Jim Steinman wrote. Not just songs Meat Loaf recorded but many other artists. That man is brilliant. The lyrics are just beyond wonderful.
“I’ve been trying for hours just to think of what exactly to say...”
“I’ve been dying for hours trying to fill up all the holes with some sense...”
“And everything’s blank.
If I could only find the words, then I would write it all down.
If I could only find a voice, I would speak...”
“Oh, it’s there in my eyes and coming straight from my heart.
It’s running silent and angry and deep.
Oh, it’s there in my eyes and it’s all I can say.
Come on and look at me and read ‘em and weep.”
Some of the most poignant lyrics ever just became a whole lot more poignant.
RIP Jim Steinman.
And, here we are again, nine months later...
one of those songs that only meat can do that hits you right in the heart
yep
Had the honor and privilege of seeing this man 5 times in person and each show was different every time . But no matter how different it was he always hit the stage running and gave 110% each and every time he went out there. Yup....one of the best pairings in the history of music.
P. J. Born to work together imo.
This song has always given me chills, since hearing it in the 80s it's been something special, Meat Loaf has a truly great voice,
it sounds like meat is being helped along by a celestial choir of background singers as he reaches for the enormous, seemingly never ending chorus.
You could Always tell a Jim Steinman song his songwriting was so distinctive. It didn't matter who sang it whether it was Bonnie Tyler, Barry Manilow, or air supply if it was a Jim Steinman song you knew it. RIP MEATLOAF AND JIM STEINMAN. YOUR MUSIC AND SONGWRITING WILL LIVE ON FOREVER
Steinman wrote his music for voices like Meatloaf's. That said, Manilow made this one of his best recordings. So glad that they both did the song. Amazing talent.
This is the original power ballad
Goodbye to Love by Carpenters is.

Another Steinman classic sung by a legend......sadly missed
Jim Steinman is the critical link to the legend that is Meat Loaf. Jim Steinman found his muse in Meat Loaf.
Heaven waited long enough. RIP
Can't beat it when 2 versions of the same song are worth a flip. Meat and Manilow. lol who'd a thunk it?!
A hero has fallen, him and Steinman created unique sounds, transcending musical taste barriers all over the world. RIP big guy.
RIP JIM. I read 'em news and wept.
The key change at 4.15 is awesome, one of his best.
Just genius on every level.
Total musical platinum. The most underrated artist on God's Earth. And this song is my favourite.
After 35 years of marriage my wife asked for a divorce and it was finalized 3 months ago. There is not another song that sums up my emotions right now.
I'm so very sorry. 35 years is a long time. I honestly pray you find peace and healing.
It hurts, and it will. But you will wake up tomorrow, and your life will continue. If you haven't already, you will hit the point where something small, stupid, and insignificant will pierce the wall you have around your emotions, and you will lose it. You'll absolutely break down.
Let it happen. It is the catharsis and closure that you will need.
My wife left me after 17 years, not nearly as long as yours, not nearly as much time as you had invested. I hope you took the high road during the proceedings; knowing that I did was sometimes the only thing that helped me sleep at night. You have my sympathies.
Hope your okay brother chin up
That's so sad. I wish you peace and healing
Most men not ALL though -. are incapable of love much less little emotion or care for that matter.
So . How is it - that when WE decide to leave ? You suddenly. Care. 😆. ( Sorry she divorced you ). Most happen for a reason. Whether you did or did not do something to deserve that - don't blame yourself it. Guilt isn't a good place to stay in. And whatever you do don't self-sabotage drink excessively or start using drugs or whatever that it is to numb your pain it won't lessen the fact what happened drugs and or excessive alcohol never solves any problems it may feel good for the moment because we've all done it somewhere something but it will not bring her back and it will not bring my dad back and it will not bring the man I loved back either. Take care be well stay strong . 🙏🌷💗

One of the greatest songs ever written
You could say that about a lot of Jim Steinman songs.
The piano intro sounds like a lullaby. Steinman, Aday, Rundegren. Legendary.
God rest your soul brother!
Hope you and Jim are making that new album in Heaven!
This is definitely on my favourites list. So beautifully sung with such passion. The most underrated performing artist of all time. Dead Ringer is an amazing album, 'More Than You Deserve', 'I'll Kill You If You Don't Come Back' and of course 'Read'em and Weap' are simply masterpieces written by Jim Steinman ... you can't go wrong!
Love that voice.
Just had a great Meatloaf morning. Respect…….so sad there will be no more. On this planet anyway..
this is my most favourite song in the whole world. it doent matter if its the awesome barry manilow or the amazing meatloaf performing it. xxx the song never fails to bring a tear to my eye. xxx
I agree
meatloaf singer it's the best song in the world. I cry every time.
Rather than comparing them all the time, I agree with you..
What is this song about ? I want to say it's about a man having trouble expressing his feelings same thing maybe with the woman and they're both talking a lot of shit, but when nobody's around them, the right words can fix the situation they can't come up with the words.i'm probably wrong that's why am asking what is it about?
BENSAM FILMS Barbara Streisand & Celine Dion covered it as well.
Dead Ringer was number 1 in England. Did nothing in U.S. Classic Rock Mag listed it as one of the best albums of the 80"s.
you mean the UK
Wow... I'd only ever heard the Barry Manilow version of this and that only 28 years ago when I friend used it as a song on a "radio" show we did for fun. Was just listening to that old music and as I really listened to the song, I thought "This is soooo Jim Steinman!" so I looked it up, shocked Steinman worked with Manilow. Mani-lo' and behold, I learn this is a Meat Loaf song first... Nice. Another dramatic, emotional song from him. Good work.
Kevin L. Kitchens Wow, the opposite happened with me....as the Manilow version wasnt that big in the UK, growing up i only ever knew this version . Then one time on the radio i heard Barrys version, and recognised the song. Thought “hey, that sounds like Barry Manilow” so looked it up and was right !
Loved stienmans work since I was about thirteen years old.now fifty six. The stienman meatloaf combination will live on for ever. Rip Jim.
RIP Meatloaf. This song is in a league of its own among rock ballads, and no one can ever sing it with such power, grace and pain like you do. Thank you for the music.
God really did his best creating Meatloaf ♡
Agreed! When the Lord put Jim Steinman and Meatloaf together to make beautiful music He certainly knew what he was doing!
Dean Stephens Well, I would mention mr Steinman, but the fact that he felt neglected and in a way betrayed Meat, make me not to accept him as a person. We all knew he is a genious but that didn't do for him, man you have it, you are a true geniuos, what more do you need? Adored on stage as a lead singer? His solo album proved that withouth ML he is just a a a a don't rememer :P
For sure!
The reality is they've actually only ever fallen out once, when he was being told how to sing a song he walked out on Steinman but that's the only closest time he's ever had an argument with him.
To anyone who's ever been ghosted by someone they love this song is it.
Bye Loaf, will miss you. Thanks for the music...
Meat Loaf the coolest dude on the planet

What a fantastic song. What a fantastic performance. Second to none. Gives me goosebumps.
And that is how you sing with passion. Amazing
You can actually see the pain in his face, because he was actually in a lot of pain singing it. After "Bat" his voice was over used putting it mildly. You can hear it and see how much he struggles through this album but pulled it off. Hell of a talent.
