Booo!...the Eagles simply blended some country influenced music, with mainstream "rock" riffing. Diluted music, for a generation looking for a change in sound. The result was mediocre music, for the mediocre tastes of a 1970s generation. Terrible music, really! And, how did Frey avoid the Draft?

No doubt Glenn was a great singer and song writer. Unfortunately, many believe his excessive drug and alcohol abuse led to his early demise. Vince Gill was chosen by Don Henley to replace Glenn and he couldn't have made a better selection. He's a great singer, song writer, guitarist, and he doesn't have ego issues. How good is he? Yea, we love our “Oklahoma Borderline” man, Vince Gill here in Oklahoma. The rendition he and Patty Loveless sang at George Jones’ funeral of “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, gave me chills and tears, I believe everyone at the service was crying. Vince wrote it after his older brothers death, following a heart attack and Keith Whitleys sad early demise, due to alcoholism.
I absolutely love The Eagles, especially their early albums. I always like Glen Fry, but after watching several documentaries about the group, the common denominator was Glen when there was friction with a band mate & they left. It seems like he had a temper & had to call all the shots.
I respect his talent, but as a person he was a greedy prick. Same goes for Henley. Now they're just a tribute band charging crazy expensive ticket prices. No Thanks!!
I am not knocking Frey's abilities, just his personality. If not for him, and him alone Randy Meisner, and Don Felder would still be with the band..until Meisner died of course
Thanks to the youtube recommendations, I have recently watched several "band members who hate each other" reports. Looks like it's always the same problems...Who is the best songwriter? Who is the best singer? Who is best-looking? Who is being paid more than another? Whose songs make it onto the album? The list goes on and on. Has there ever been a band where the members liked each other on a consistent basis? I am sorry to be so negative here...
To add a snippet, next time you listen to Seger’s “Rambling Gambling Man” the first time they sing the chorus, Glenn’s enthusiastic vocal contribution drowns out Bob’s voice...
I have always liked the Eagles, but in the 1970s I always viewed them as a country band, who somehow got lucky enough to have their songs played on rock-n-roll stations. It was Felder that brought gave them the rock sound that they needed. I always thought that had it not been for Felder, "The Eagles" would have ended up in the dollar bin at K-Mart, because they sound was good, but not great by the late 1970s. Times were changing, and they needed to change.
The Eagles was Glenn Frey's band. He thought up the name and approached the other guys about joining his band ( 60 minutes Australia back in the early 2010's asked Henley who's band is the Eagles and he said " It's Glenn's band " I know each member had a share in Eagles limited supposedly making them all equal, but we see how well that worked out for Felder around 1999-2000 ) Enter Joe for Hotel California, so now you've got another great rock singer / guitar God + The phenomenal songs sung by Henley, 5 if you count Victim of Love (reprise) 1 with Joe. 1 with Randy and Just 1 with Glenn ( New kid in town ) Exit Randy, enter Tim ( another amazing singer ) But just 2 founding members that are in control, Hotel California is a money printing press for the record company, and those record execs would sell their souls to catch lightning in a bottle twice.. So do think they are pushing for more songs sung by Frey or Henley? Glenn felt like he was losing his band to Henley but needed a scapegoat he could unload all his frustrations and blame on.. Rather than being honest at the risk of sounding like a pussy and saying " I'm afraid that I am losing control of the band I created, so I'm just going to take my toys and go home " Enter Don Felder.. Glenn Knew that he couldn't go off on Henley like he wanted to, so I guess one Don is as good as the next... I love the Eagles and all of it's members ( past and present ) But it is what it is, nobody's perfect and we're all human!
@@suekelley4466 that is very true but Glenn Frey knew that he wanted to form the Eagles and he had already talked to Don Henley Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner about it before they informed Linda Ronstadt of their plan. And all of the Eagles have said she was nothing but supportive in their decision
Felder is 1/3 owner of The Eagles, legally. He continues to make money while Frey is worm food. Henley and Frey were egotistical, greedy, and insecure. Hotel California was Felder’s creation and they couldn’t stand that his creation was their number one song. Everybody else to a member attests to Felder’s decency and fairness in life. Henley and Frey, on the other hand, just let greed get the better of them and wouldn’t consent to the ‘Hell Freezes Over’ tour being a fair share of profit, because they knew they would make a fortune if they could cut Felder out. Money from the tour and jealousy over Felder’s talent got the better of them and showed the world who they were.
@HoboJoe1416 I agree with you 100% . I've read Heaven and Hell my life in the Eagles. But Felder did forfeit his 1/3 share in the lawsuit settlement for a lump sum buyout from Eagles Limited. I believe that is why on Hotel California, the 2013 remaster he's listed last in the song writing credits.. Unlike the original, where he is listed first in the song writing credits
Great band but Pride comes before Destruction and the love of Money is the Root of all Evil. Sad how great bands kill themselves. Just like great families and countries
In the mid seventies it seemed to me that the Eagles were getting a bit stale, their music always sounded the same. When Joe Walsh joined the band he infused some new blood and gave the Eagles a greater sound and range.
@napoliansolo7865 the same can be said about Neil Young joining CSN. Other than the first album, most if not all (CSN) albums without Neil were unforgettable.
Yes he was , his disgruntled attitude towards playing a benefit concert was exactly the reason why that fight started, everyone was tired of Felders do nothing but expect the equal share outlook, besides the music for Hotel California and a forgettable song Visions, he contributed nothing else towards songwriting for the band, he was a glorified session musician and Felder knows he’d be nothing without Glenn Frey
@@briannelson6830 If Felder was so pathetic as you seem to think, then why did Glenn Frey offer him to be a full time shareholder in Eagle's Inc?? Obviously Frey saw something in Felder that you can't begin to understand......BTW, Why should Felder have to put up with Frey's bullshit political grandstanding. He had every right to tell Frey to piss off. Oh, and IT WAS FREY who started the fight during Long night at Wrong Beach.
@@briannelson6830He was 1/3 owner of Eagles Ltd, genius. He had a legal right to expect equal pay. Quit swallowing the slanted account that Henley and Frey would give you.
@@Trial212 Of course Frey saw something in Felder when he first joined, he is a good guitarist and was a friend of Bernie’s. But after years of coasting and not offering much else creative in terms to song writing to the group and constantly being a malcontent the group had enough! Notice Joe and Tim never came to Felder’s defense and Bernie even came back to play with the Eagles on a few dates a few years ago. Keep taking the side of a guy who cries and whines and throws his former band mates under the preverbal bus ( including the ones he claims to admire) by writing a tell all book while the rest of the band has too much class to even respond.
@@briannelson6830 Obviously you have never watched the DVD The History of the Eagles. Frey show's the world (by talking) that he's an asshole of the highest order. That DVD did more damage to Henley's and Frey's reputation then Felders book ever did. Additionally Walsh and Schmidt were hired hands. They weren't going to come to Felder's defense, they were afraid that they would be fired next!!!

Times were changing, and they needed to change.
R.I.P good guy
RIP Glenn!!
Love the Eagles.
gran cantane Glen Frey.pero nunca logre entender porque la enemistad con Don Felder
Ronstadt and her manager were pivitol in the beginning of his start-up band, and he took it from there.
Linda Ronstadt ❤❤❤😊xxx
He was self absorbed. He really thought highly of himself
No great loss!
There just seems to be something about American bands that despite great success, they eventually disintegrate into chaos and ruin.
Not just American bands
Felder, was not the one who started that fight
Success ruined Fry and Henley , they treated the rest of the band dreadfully.
💯%. Sad, cos I lost respect for them as ppl, but still admired their musicianship.
❤❤❤❤🙏🦋🇸🇪 RIP
