Take It To The Limit is probably my favorite song from the Eagles. I love the high notes that Randy was capable of hitting. It saddens me that Randy hated having to sing it in concert and felt forced to do it. I don't know if he didn't realize just how good he was or if he hated being the front man. I wish that he could have enjoyed his performances more. However, there are many people in this world who don't want to be the center of attention. RIP Randy. I sure love you and your contribution to the music world. God bless ❤
From what I've heard Randy said the song was vocally strenuous and he was scared he would mess up the song Live. So, one night he just refused to sing and after an argument he left and was kicked out of the group
@mistyapril29 I have read about what happened that night. Randy singing "Take It To The Limit " would have been their 3rd encore. He refused bc he wasn't feeling well. When Glenn Frye insisted he sing it anyway, Randy poured a beer over Glenn's head. This is not the typical nice guy Randy was known to be. Obviously, he wasn't feeling well for whatever reason. It astounds me that Randy left and gave up any rights as an equal owner of the "Eagles ". He must have wanted out pretty badly to give up any royalties. IMO, Glenn was an egomaniac and caused many other issues including firing Don Felder. I'm certain that there are many other untold stories. I hope that someday, someone will speak the absolute truths and untold stories. Thanks for your comment 👍.
In interviews I've seen of Walsh and Felder, RM was suffering from some type of gastrointestinal problem (ulcers perhaps). In any case, I understand Meisner wasn't quite the "equal" partner that many assume, with Henley and Frey being more equal than the others. Given that Frey and Henley did the majority of writing I guess they have a good case. @@susanbrown4026

"I Can't Tell You Why" should have been on this list. That song and "One Of These Nights" had crossover appeal which got play on R&B/Soul radio stations (way back in the day). Not an easy feat, but the Eagles did it! 😎
I Can't Tell You Why was one of my favorite songs by the Eagles and the only Eagles song I heard played on R&B stations when I was a kid. Sorry to see it didn't make honorable mention. Didn't find out about Hotel California until I was an adult listening to Soft Rock stations but I loved it the first time I heard it. So I agree that is definitely their #1 song.
New kid in town was the only Eagles record I bought and of course my favourite. I appreciate them more as I get older. Such great singers....R.I.P. Glenn Frey ❤
Essentially, I agree with your list, but there's a soft spot in my heart for "Peaceful Easy Feeling." One particularly magical night at Karaoke, when the room happened to be packed with professional singers and dancers (the Northwest Performing Arts Conference was in town), for some bizarre reason all these out of town Hot Shots (who had come in right after one of my songs and had never hear me sing) kept pestering the DJ to hear me sing (I wasn't due up again that night because it was getting close to closing time). She gave in. I was caught totally off guard and couldn't think of any song I thought I could do well enough for this elite crowd. All I could think of was "Peaceful Easy Feeling." The song brought the house down with a clap of thunder. I say "the song brought the house down" because there's no way what I did with it deserved anything like the response it got, but Daymn it felt good. Thank you Eagles.
Traveling for work, once went 100 miles out my way, just so I could " stand on a corner in Winslow Arizona"❤, and at 3am driving thru endless empty stretch between NM, and West Tx, Hotel California came on❤Started singing , Windows down, nobody else on the road, belting it out with the record...flashing blue lights.😞Speeding ticket ! No, sir not drinking, just singing to " Hotel California!" , well , ok then, keep it under 70! That's the power of the EAGLES!❤😇❤😇❤
Similar , Driving from Cleveland back to Saint Louis MO . Doing 98 In a 70 . Running in a 20 pack of cars trucks and 18 wheelers . Still hearing Don singing 'Driving with your eyes closed . I asked why me. ? His response was ,You're the one that stopped .
"I can't tell you why" was a favorite featuring bass player Timothy and covered later by Vince Gill on a tribute album. The guitar solo is amazing by itself not to mention Timothy high notes and vocal range. Surprised not on here! Also "Best of my love" big hit topped the charts.
Take it to the Limit!!! The best, Randy was such a great singer, never got the credit he deserved. He seemed so humble, no ego- just a sweet and kind man.
I saw the Eagles in 2015 in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was my third time seeing them in concert. The first time was on the Long Run tour in 1982. What struck me was that these guys sang the old songs like it was the first time they sang them. They still loved performing these songs after all these years. The first song was from their first album and they finished with Hotel California. Nearly three hours of the best music ever. Thank you Eagles!!@
you could through these 10 songs in a hopper and pull them out one at a time in any order and no one could argue with the choices. All of them are great and each one brings its own set of memories.
You can say that again.....without Felder it wouldn't have been written, Don Felder wrote the music to Hotel California before the lyrics were put to it!
Lyin Eyes gets my vote. I was amazed at hearing an interview of the explanation they gave of what they observed in real life at a bar they were at and started writing the lyrics on the spot.
I listened to Glenn's debut solo record at the beginning of the year after missing the guy. A fun little record and reignited my love for the band. Rest easy, Glenn. ❤️
It’s impossible to pick a single favorite. The Eagles laid down the soundtrack of my life. Every song meant something in one stage or another. I often felt like they knew me.
ALL EAGLES SONG ARE AWESOME HOWEVER LYING EYES IS MY FAVOURITE. THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF EAGLES FOR GIVING SO MANY HAPPY MOMENTS WITH YOUR AWESOME YET DOWN TO EARTH SONGS AND LYRICS.
"Desperado" is my pick....both as song & classic Album. Bought it & played it throughout my first year at Art College, Manchester. Eng. Still my favourite album of all my Eagles collection. Loved playing & singing harmonies with my brother Eamon who unfortunately passed away in Nuremberg a few weeks ago....miss his guitar accompaniment & wonderful harmonies to so many, many songs like these. Rip Bro.🕯
@Christopher Ryan Curtis because people dont usually expect people (well at least people ive met) 40 years and younger to like "oldie bands" I for one am a 20 something who grew up as a fan of the Eagles,CCR,ACDC,Bread,KISS etc because my parents being children of the 60s,products of the 70s listened to them. My father being the huge fan he is actually was one of the 1st people in line to purchase "Hell Freezes over" when it was released on cassette. Maybe that's why he stated his age..but then again maybe he felt it made him important.
My dad raised me on true classics, CCR, Eagles, petty, etc. and honestly that’s the best gift I think my dad could have ever given me unlike my sister who loves modern rap and that stuff. It’s not pure and it’s not real music and doesn’t get you in the soul like eagles.
It’s hard to choose a favorite off each album, it’s practically impossible to choose a favorite song out of them all. Some days it’s Ol’ 55 that gets me going. Sometimes it’s One of These Nights. Other days it’s How Long. But one thing is for sure….they are the best band of all time.
My ALL TIME favorite song is.........Take It To The Limit!!!!! For some reason, it brings me to tears. Maybe it's the way Randy sings it, I'm not sure. But to me it's the best song from them
Leaving work as weekend admitting clerk, one Sunday was stuck in a snowstorm in the hospital parking lot. Heard this song for the first time on my car radio. Loved it that first time and every time since.
I'm Scottish and my go to holiday song whether in USA, Europe or wherever is Take It Easy...if I hear that song I'm done, relaxing somewhere RIP Glenn xx
TonyTheTigerBB yeah what pissed me off was Newsweek did a three or four page article and David Bowie when he died he was British was not that great not that many hits and hear one of the greatest bands in the world barely even a little tiny article about Glenn Frey piss me , they could’ve done a whole magazine cover about the Eagles A lot history there. No stupid democratic papers .
Here are a few of my honourable mentions: I Can't Tell You Why, The Best Of My Love, Already Gone, Love Will Keep Us Alive, How Long, and Hole In The World.
One Of These Nights SHOULD be at the top IMO- The FEEL of that entire album is just SO cohesive, synchronous and symbiotic- and it makes me feel like ALL the current members at the time it was recorded were at the top of their games(their heads were all in the right place at that moment) and complimenting each others strengths as musicians/bandmates. This much 'individual' talent in one place has a 'shelf life' of, well, NOT very long LOL, yet this album feels to me, moreso as they BELONGED together and it translates into what I think is about as close to a 'flawless' album as it got. As if the band was there for a single reason... to make the BEST MUSIC possible for their audience to enjoy hearing. Just my 2 cents...
I have driven many thousands of miles to the tune of Eagles songs over the years! And one nice thing about listening while driving is that no one can hear me sing along!
The Eagles have too many great songs, including those forgotten ones: "Victim of Love" "Outlaw Man" "Already Gone" (it's been mentioned at some point tho) "I Can't Tell You Why" (how could you forget this one??) "Best of My Love" "In the City" "Those Shoes"
Ron Sharer The Long Run is a pretty underrated album imo. It wasn't made in the best conditions, and thus it had mixed reviews at the time of its release, but it has a lot of gems.
There is no doubt that The Eagles is my absolute favorite band. Admittedly part of that has to do with original band member, and bassist Randy Meisner. Randy is my age and was born and raised 6 miles from where I lived in Western Nebraska. I never knew him personally, but frequently would go to listen to his very popular regional band, The Dynamics. I don’t know why Randy left the Eagles at what I thought was the peak of their success, but he returned home to Mitchell NE, and the farming life. Whatever you might say, Randy Meisner has talent.
When you think of why this is true America, think it was the blend of Henley (Texas country) and Frey (Detroit Mo Town) which became the California sound! Think of that! Amazing!
Probably the best American band ever. So many hits so much individual talent. I'm so lucky to have seen them this past summer. Good list but my number one will always be Take it Easy!!! I missed Randy though. His classic Take it to the Limit might be my #2. RIP Glenn "Shake it, bake it, take it easy"
Just saw them two days ago in DC. Just great. Deacon Frye and Vince Gill were onstage, as well as an orchestra and choir. The music sounded as spectacular as ever !
My favorite glen rip you will won’t never be forgotten same as Randy. We will miss you you make me move feels real great. You are the most popular in the world world. Excellent voice outstanding performance. God bless you all . 👍👍❤️♥️
I love and understand why 'Hotel California' is number one. Especially, the exceptional duo and well synchronized guitar work between Don Felder and Joe Walsh. But personally, I really enjoy 'Lyin' Eyes' and I think it's more of a classic and essential Eagles tune.
I was in a rough place in my life and it was the beginning of the best times of the year, summer, and I had suffered a horrible heartbreak and I loved the radio on Spotify and then came a song. No not just any song. A SONG. the guitars rang in my ears and the melody unwinded me and set me free, and a smile came upon my face. And that was what it was about just taking it all in saying F it and just to.... Take it Easy❤️
Used to love the Eagles. Owned every pre-split up album on 2 or 3 formats, 8 track aside. And twice on CD format after remasters. And today, when an Eagles song comes on the radio, I can’t switch the station quick enough. I can’t stand the sight of Henley, Frey, and even Joe Walsh, who I liked more pre-Eagles, disliked during and afterwards. And unfortunately today, I can’t hear a single note of their admittedly fabulous music, without picturing some of my most disposed individuals in rock history. They’ve never missed a chance to expose reasons to dislike them. If I listen to them these days, it’s because I’m a captive audience.
RIP Randy Meisner. The world has lost an incredible human being & phenomenal musician. Your music will live on forever.

One of them
Greatest band of all time
Exactly talent all around
Not only could they..each one DID lead their own ban.
They’re a boring band with some good songs
This thing transports you back. Just memories.
Randy had one of the best voices and this song by him is a classic. It really moves me every time I hear it.
What an awesome band. One of my all time favorite bands, RIP Glenn.
"I Can't Tell You Why" should have been on this list. That song and "One Of These Nights" had crossover appeal which got play on R&B/Soul radio stations (way back in the day). Not an easy feat, but the Eagles did it! 😎
Exactly, those two are actually my favorite songs... and they didn't make the list???
One of these nights made it. Number 5.
I absolutely agree!
I Can't Tell You Why was one of my favorite songs by the Eagles
and the only Eagles song I heard played on R&B stations when I was a kid. Sorry to see it didn't make honorable mention. Didn't find out about Hotel California until I was an adult listening to Soft Rock stations but I loved it the first time I heard it. So I agree that is definitely their #1 song.
RIP Randy! We will continue to take it to the limit
So True !! 😢⚘
I can’t tell you why. Another great song not mentioned. There will never be another band like them.
The Eagles...a timeless masterpiece!! 👍
Living in Arizona, I've had to go up Route 66 a few times. Always made sure we went up to Winslow so we could stand on that infamous corner.
Y’all are straight up SNORING on I Can’t Tell You Why and Best of My Love... those songs are some of the best songs of any artist period
we're on the same page than, because I think the same thing!!!
Nobody snoring they just have too many to list
My favorite is "Take it to the limit"
Such a great voice of Randy Meisner! ❤❤❤
His voice just seemed ethereal to me. My soul seemed to leave my body.
8-22-2020 I was bummed out that I Can't Tell You Why wasn't on there. I love that song.
Hello Kathryn how are you doing today happy 😊 new year god bless you as you wished..
Me Too !! 😤💕
That's my favorite song too!!
Same here.
Never get tired of listening, RIP Glenn
"I can't tell you why" was a favorite featuring bass player Timothy and covered later by Vince Gill on a tribute album. The guitar solo is amazing by itself not to mention Timothy high notes and vocal range. Surprised not on here! Also "Best of my love" big hit topped the charts.
Take it to the Limit!!! The best, Randy was such a great singer, never got the credit he deserved. He seemed so humble, no ego- just a sweet and kind man.
"Take it to the Limit" hands down the best of anything !!
Randy meisner sang that song The Best as lead hands down
Yup the 76 version by meisner
@@firewfire 1977 Capital Center!
One of these nights will always be my favorite
I saw the Eagles in 2015 in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was my third time seeing them in concert. The first time was on the Long Run tour in 1982. What struck me was that these guys sang the old songs like it was the first time they sang them. They still loved performing these songs after all these years. The first song was from their first album and they finished with Hotel California. Nearly three hours of the best music ever. Thank you Eagles!!@
WOW, YOU WERE VERY LUCKY TO SEE THEM LIVE.
you could through these 10 songs in a hopper and pull them out one at a time in any order and no one could argue with the choices. All of them are great and each one brings its own set of memories.
The Last Resort is a seriously underrated song. Musical genius... absolutely love it, especially the live rendition in Hell Freezes Over 1994.
Ditto Ditto Ditto!
Moves my heart ❤️
i was going to say where's Last Resort on that list?
@@heresynco 😂❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂🎉🎉
The Sad Café is good too...
Frey, Henly, Leadon and Meisner, was a super combination. But without Felder and Walsh the Hotel song would probably not be the same.
It would never have been an Eagles song at all.
And probably a lot of other hits...
Agree with you 💯 on this one.. Hotel California showcases these two men's talents! 💯♥️🎸👨🎤
You can say that again.....without Felder it wouldn't have been written, Don Felder wrote the music to Hotel California before the lyrics were put to it!
Hotel California is fantastic only with Felder and Walsh on guitar solos. Without them together it is not & never will be the same.
Take It to the Limit is only 7th? Seriously??? Randy kicks major ass on this. What a gorgeous voice!
Should be number 1
So True !! 😤💕
Lyin Eyes gets my vote. I was amazed at hearing an interview of the explanation they gave of what they observed in real life at a bar they were at and started writing the lyrics on the spot.
Surprised I can't tell you why wasn't on there. Great tune. RIP Glen, whatta legend
Without "I Can't Tell You Why", I don't agree to your selection. In every concert, people always wait for this song.
Hotel California is your number 1 simply because of don felder’s amazing guitarwork!
Eagles is easily one of the all time top bands in the world!
Agreed! Also "love will keep us alive" Timothy Schmitt
Miss Glen Frey beautiful voice! No more wonderful voice have i heard!
I wholeheartedly agree.
I listened to Glenn's debut solo record at the beginning of the year after missing the guy. A fun little record and reignited my love for the band. Rest easy, Glenn. ❤️
The Eagles are one of a kind.Too much talent in a a group.
Absolutely love the eagles, best band ever in my books
Couldnt agree more and anybody would be damned to try tell me otherwise!!!:-)
TOTALLY.
2/7/23
The Eagles are my favorite group. Loved Randy Meisner’s “Take it to the Limit”
It’s impossible to pick a single favorite. The Eagles laid down the soundtrack of my life. Every song meant something in one stage or another. I often felt like they knew me.
Hello Connie how are you doing today happy 😊 new year god bless you as you wished..
One of my favorites is "Try and Love Again." I love Randy Meisner's voice and lyrics.
I love that song.
Great song! My all time favorite Eagles song. ❤
My God that boy could sing the hell out of a song!
ALL EAGLES SONG ARE AWESOME HOWEVER LYING EYES IS MY FAVOURITE. THANK YOU TO ALL THE MEMBERS OF EAGLES FOR GIVING SO MANY HAPPY MOMENTS WITH YOUR AWESOME YET DOWN TO EARTH SONGS AND LYRICS.
Glen was so cute when he was young and no slouch when older either... R.I.P. GLEN .....LOVE ALL THEIR SONGS
You left out one of my faves: "Try and Love Again" with Randy Meisner singing lead.
Rip Bro.🕯
16 years old and I know this is one of the greatest bands ever, and my personal favorite.
Christian C wow I'm impressed you really know good music my man.
George Sanchez thanks dude
@Christopher Ryan Curtis because people dont usually expect people (well at least people ive met) 40 years and younger to like "oldie bands" I for one am a 20 something who grew up as a fan of the Eagles,CCR,ACDC,Bread,KISS etc because my parents being children of the 60s,products of the 70s listened to them.
My father being the huge fan he is actually was one of the 1st people in line to purchase "Hell Freezes over" when it was released on cassette.
Maybe that's why he stated his age..but then again maybe he felt it made him important.
My dad raised me on CCR, Johnny Cash, Eagles Etc. I was/am a KISS fan during those years. 55 and rocking
But to me it's the best song from them
It's awesome! Reminds me of couple skating at the roller rink in 6th grade, lol.
Leaving work as weekend admitting clerk, one Sunday was stuck in a snowstorm in the hospital parking lot. Heard this song for the first time on my car radio. Loved it that first time and every time since.
Gill and frey did a great version just not on meisners level. He even messed up in the 76 dvd but its still by far the best
I'm Scottish and my go to holiday song whether in USA, Europe or wherever is Take It Easy...if I hear that song I'm done, relaxing somewhere RIP Glenn xx
one year ago today Glenn Frey died in new york R.I.P he will forever be missed.
Rest in peace GLENN, you were the best 😢💖
God speed Glenn you he changed my life that’s for sure
TonyTheTigerBB yeah what pissed me off was Newsweek did a three or four page article and David Bowie when he died he was British was not that great not that many hits and hear one of the greatest bands in the world barely even a little tiny article about Glenn Frey piss me , they could’ve done a whole magazine cover about the Eagles A lot history there. No stupid democratic papers .
For me Glen Frey’s voice is the most wonderful voice I’ve ever heard! I really miss Glen Frey!
Here are a few of my honourable mentions: I Can't Tell You Why, The Best Of My Love, Already Gone, Love Will Keep Us Alive, How Long, and Hole In The World.
Best American Rock Group Ever
🦅♥️🌟💙🇺🇸🇺🇸🌟🎸🎸🎸🎸🌟🥁🥁🥁🎸🌟🎹🎹🎹🎹🎤🎤🎤🎤
You got that right 👍
Glen Frey is simply irreplaceable! May his soul rest in peace!
RIP Glenn Frey. 🙏🙏
Rip Glen. Absolute legend
If you go to Winslow, AZ you’ll see the corner in Winslow, AZ just because of “Take it easy”
@TradeWinds On The Bay absolutely. Deacon is really fucking great. Well done, Glen. Your legacy lives on through your brilliant son.
His son is doing a Hell of a job . You can hear his dad in the songs .
Hello Diana how are you doing today happy 😊 new year god bless you as you wished..
Take it to the limit with Randy in lead!
My favorite band. Their documentary is the best I’ve ever seen. It is the reason I became an all out fan.
Where do i find to watch?
The Eagles have too many great songs, including those forgotten ones:
"Victim of Love"
"Outlaw Man"
"Already Gone" (it's been mentioned at some point tho)
"I Can't Tell You Why" (how could you forget this one??)
"Best of My Love"
"In the City"
"Those Shoes"
That's a great list you made there. almost forgot those shoes. great song.
Ron Sharer The Long Run is a pretty underrated album imo. It wasn't made in the best conditions, and thus it had mixed reviews at the time of its release, but it has a lot of gems.
in my own opinion. already gone is the best rock song in history
Highly underrated song. While not my favourite Eagles song, it's definitely in my top 5. I use it as my ringtone.
Antoine Mouthon how about 'Love Will Keep Us Alive'? :)
Amazing!
I Can’t Tell you Why is one of my favorites. Rest in peace Glenn.
Jackson Browne wrote Take it Easy
Just saw them two days ago in DC. Just great. Deacon Frye and Vince Gill were onstage, as well as an orchestra and choir. The music sounded as spectacular as ever !
Hello ,how are you doing today?
“Beautiful faces, and loud empty places……. Look at the way that we live”
Definitely one of my favourite 70’s bands.
The same thing happened to me. That song saved and changed my entire life
Facts👍they were so ahead of their time with lyrics😁all these songs even more so these days say it all🙏
Used to love the Eagles.
Poor little snowflake.
Miss you Glenn Frey! One of the best! Great songwriting and great arranging! Hot and cool. An enigma. Heart of America.
