@@LaughingStock_ Thanks, I believe you are probably correct. I've had Colour of Spring since new on vinyl. You have given me the push I needed to purchase both of them, cheers from New Zealand.
I loved the first 3 albums of Talk Talk and MARK HOLLIS was a huge genius. One of the greatest of that time. Immense regret, I am now 64 and this period of the 80s was the happiest
I went dirt biking in central Spain for a week 9 years ago and Mark was one of the dirt bikers on the tour ...I didn't know it was him at the time .he never let on ...nice guy. ...
I never ignored talk talk them and big country are my all time favourite of the 80s to this day they still live n my life until the day that I die 😊 thank for this vlog 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
A massively underrated collective of brilliant musicians whose influence on music endures to this day, and will, no doubt, continue to shape musical choices for emerging musicians in the future. Vale Mr. Hollis.
Genius his music is and always will be a big part of my life, this is the first time I have managed to find out much about him but always understood what a private person he was.
Talk Talk was such an project of genius. Their progression of albums and musical styles was always amazing. The Colour Of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock show such diversity of sounds with beautiful scapes and progressive changes.. One of my favorite bands of all time.
Great video. No sensational nonsense to ratchet up clicks. Straight biographical info about a gifted but private man. He is appreciated and missed by so many fans.
Arguably the inventors of 90s post rock. one of the first bands if not the first band that really broke away from all the various incarnations of rock ‘n’ roll and created a new genre absolutely brilliant
Knew about Talk Talk for yonks through 'It's My Life' and 'Life's What You Make It' but only seriously started listening to them about 2 years ago. Only wished I'd got into them sooner. Absolutely stunning and quite incredible how much they changed from the debut LP to the last one. Mark Hollis had an amazing voice. Watch any footage of them live and it's incredible how pitch perfect he was every time. Must confess at first I pretty much hated both 'Spirit Of Eden' and 'Laughing Stock' on first listen (other than a couple of tracks) but something made me keep coming back to them and I found that every time I listened another song would open up . I now rate 'Spirit Of Eden as one of the greatest albums ever made and 'Laughing Stock' gives immense pleasure ('New Grass' in particular is a jewel that once it draws you in, you want to stay there and almost never come out).
@@eightiesmusic1984 Yes, I bought the book not long after buying up Talk Talk's back catalogue. Brown worked on both 'Spirit Of Eden' and 'Laughing Stock' as well as the only solo album Hollis recorded and devotes a chapter on each. The sessions were certainly intense and seriously tested the mindset of everyone involved. So much so that Paul Webb didn't return for 'Laughing Stock'. It's certainly not the way you'd want to go about recording an album every time but the results speak for themselves.
Thank you for correcting a mistake I had always made by thinking that he had gone to Fitz when in reality he had gone to Sweyne. Finally someone to be proud of from my school. Please feel free to mention others if you know them, though none will touch the beauty of music produced by Mark.
The Montreux gig 1986 is one of the greatest and I watch it all the time. He's voice was stunning. Does anyone know how his kids are doing ? RIP Mark. There is no God.
Call in The Night Boy my fave, but just loved every album, every lyric Mark Hollis a masterclass of a songwriter and the Band well just a great time had listening to their music❤❤
Powerful, propulsive, imaginative, haunting ... Talk Talk created majestically memorable music. As other fans on this Facebook presentation note with great affection, Mark Hollis captivated listeners with his singing and the words of which he sang. Talk Talk at its peak was a brilliant musical ensemble. The duo of bassist Paul Webb and drummer Lee Harris was a magnificent pairing of two imaginative performers. Tim Friese-Greene's keyboard work, along with his impeccable production, added depth and radiant dimension to Talk Talk's tunes. Guitarist Robbie McIntosh was present on some recordings. We can mourn Mark's passing, as will befall all of us some day. But Mark Hollis's legacy endures in the wonderful songs created by Hollis, Harris, Webb, Friese-Greene and McIntosh.
@@rhodaborrocks-dy3fb that's what the people like they were number one hits. Hey Jude. Yesterday. Let it be. Revolution. Imagine. Come together right now over me. Yellow submarine. We live in a beautiful world of music and occasionally an artist will come along and stop you in your tracks - Certain bands and musicians did that to me - For in that moment of magic they produce songs that stay with you forever - Talk Talk had that sound and genius to produce truly great music - They did it more for the art than the commercial success - Other bands like Prefab Sprout had a similar ethos.
Katelyn is a beautiful lady ❤ they both derserve each other 😊 lucky to be madly in love its a wonderful feeling when you have all the right boxes ticked... luv the photo's Ireland.
I loved Talk Talk since their first single. Paul Webb is possibly the most underrated bassist of the Rock era. Hollis' voice was beautiful. I'm so glad that I became a fan long before the biography "A Perfect Silence" came out, as it showed how callous and dismissive he could be to nearly everyone he came across in his career.
I haven't read this nook but there's always two sides to a story. Mark was very disenchanted with the industry and got to the point where he didn't trust anyone in it. That woudn't be a unique experience either as many of us went through it. The constant demands from the vampires wanting a piece of you and continually being shafted is enought to turn anyone into a bitter cynic. If this book was written by people in the industry then it would be just a drawer full of knives. Mark did the right thing at the right time. I remember him as a gentle considerate fun person who naturally had exaggerated ups and downs in his creative work and he didnt' suffer fools gladly...or bend over for them. A real artist. RIP Mark.
It's a strange feeling but he was just 15 years older than me when he died, and I can remember hearing Talk Talk on the radio as an 11 - 12 year old kid and the pop singers of the day seemed so much older than me but they weren't really ✌️
Troubled. Conflicted. Supremely gifted. Staggeringly good music. Miss you.
The colour of spring ,one of my all time favourite albums.
👌👍 100%
Just listened to it yesterday! Soooo good !
It's superb - but it was merely the appetiser before their 2 masterpieces, "Spirit of Eden" and "Laughing Stock".
@@LaughingStock_ Thanks, I believe you are probably correct. I've had Colour of Spring since new on vinyl. You have given me the push I needed to purchase both of them, cheers from New Zealand.
Still for me one the best albums ever. It will forever be the summer of 1986 when I listened to it every day before going back to my native Australia.
Finally a biography on Mark. Thanks so much. Very underrated talent.
So happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, I appreciate you 😁👍
His voice was unique and wonderful. I will never forget "its my life" and "Renee".
It was such a nice person

In those pub debates on 'the greatest band ever', I always have to bring up Talk Talk.
Certainly the best band to come out of the eighties.

Thanks Sandy how lovely you are 🥰
Talk Talk was huge in Germany, where I lived from mid '84 to late '86.
One our greatest British singers.'I believe in you' is still one of my top 5 songs of all time.
I Believe in You is THE best song ever written. It’s getting played at my funeral
Thanks, so underrated. Time will play on his favor. Was lucky to see talk in Marseille, still a great gig.
Thank you I agree! Thanks for watching 🥰👍
Thank you for great music mark you will all way be missed you legend ❤❤
Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock (essentially the same basic ensemble) are still some of my favorite albums of all time. The definition of timeless.

Ruhe in Frieden 🕊 🕯️ und Danke für deine Musik.

Tim Friese Green was so underrated,he elevated them to new heights

One of the 80s best bands. Lucky enough to see them live, would have been around 1984 at the Odeon in Birmingham
Music Legend , The Color Of Spring is one of my top 5 albums ever made total masterpiece,

While traveling
What a great and underrated band Talk Talk were. Living in Another World and Today were my favourites. Hollis was his own man and nobody elses

"Laughing Stock" is such a timeless masterpiece - I am now delving into Ben Wardle`s book, portraying Mark`s biography.
Absolute genius Spirit of eden and Laughing stock beautifully crafted albums, was very sad when I learned of his passing.
Loved this band. Still listen to It’s My Life and Such a Shame…..

I agree with every word you’ve written.
Love how they incorporated a 12 string guitar to their set. Such a fresh take on all their classics.
