Genius
What did the BBC think was going to happen as a result of airing Terry? That guys would crash their bikes just to impress her?
Twinkle twinkle big star
Missed him a lot😢😢
Missed him a lot😢😢
It’s mobeel
Nights in White Satin.
When we got our 1st dansette in the 60's, it was Gimme some lovin, that was the 1st single we played on it. Oh the atmosphere of those times was incredible!
What is`nt generally known is that he lived with his aunt for awhile in a town called Oswaldtwistle ,,,its in Lancashire about 25 miles from Manchester. I remember years later there was a fundraising football (soccer) match in aid of a local charity .He organised a celebs team and brought along Many of the BBC radio one DJ s and players from the Manchester United First team,I remember watching the game with two of my nephews who got plenty of autographs .He was a nice guy . Great presentation Thanks for the memories
💙💙💙😭💙💙💙
Wow, never heard of her until now.
Where's the evidence that Twinkle was banned in the US as part of an overall embargo on UK artists?
She was a massive star in the early to mid 60’s and was much admired. She was extremely pretty too. I knew she lived in Kingston but I didn’t know she was born in Surbiton, just 2 or 3 miles a😊way. My family lived in Surbiton for many years.I also knew that she had lost her partner in the Turkish Airlines, Paris air disaster. Her Vet was in Surbiton where my sister was then working as a veterinary nurse.Twinkle came in with her pet just a few days after the accident and was very distressed and told the staff why. That must’ve been a very hard blow.I think of her as a 60’s icon and she must have had a very interesting time, the people she met and the places she visited. It seemed like she knew everyone. Her career was like a shooting star for a few years and I personally think she was happy to move on to other things. She was quite unique and unforgettable.
Sweet memory from the 60s .I was only around 8 years old when Terry came out & my older teenage sister loved the song & all the teenage girls wanted to look like her .
There's a little town in Cyprus That's hanging out the streamers To welcome the arrival of Freddie and the Dreamers (Just a minute) I could never be (I could never be) A corporal in the cavalry Please don't pick on me (Please don't pick on me) I am only five foot three Now I don't like the army life The airforce don't like me Now I can't join the navy 'Cause I get sick at sea Freddie has gone away sad, sad today Next in line we were dreaming, maybe The Rolling Stones would be fit for the navy
Sorry I didn't send that comment. Ie about didn't wake up.....
Why are Steely Dan fans called "dildos"?
I worked with 4 Indian guys who were musicians!! The group was called the new Seikers!!!
Frank's passing escaped my notice until I saw this clip! Thank you for the nice coverage of his career, and RIP to Mr Ifield. I have some nice childhood memories of his songs.
I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it thank you 🤗💕
"How Do You Do It" was the first record I ever bought - still a favourite. Thanks for everything Gerry xx
She came to New Zealand with the Rolling Stones in the mid 60's. I was six rows from the stage - I thought she was lovely and so wanted to look like her. RIP lovely lady.
So sad. Loved his guitar playing. RIP!
This is the first I've known she had died. It breaks my heart. She was so talented. I miss her.
❤💯💢💥💫👍
🥰👍
My dad is holding the guitar in the picture with her at 2:18 👍🏻
Oh wow how cool! 🥰💯 Thank you so much for sharing 🤗💕
Ken Howard and Howard Blakely wrote song for Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick and Tich like Hold Tight.
She is the Aunt of actress, cookbook author Fay Ripley.
Twinkle was a singer singer songwriter in the mid 60s . Terry and Golden lights are well remembered hit singles. She made some more great singles for Decca. Tommy End of the World and several others. A great single Micky in 69 should have been a hit. Love her 1982 version of I'm a believer.
Uncle Herman.? very welsh .
Oh stop it…! 😂
Loved Jerry cracking voice.
What an awful song, no wonder i have never heard of it seeing i know my 60's music.
Huh???
Loved these guys….when they toured Oz in ‘66, (Adelaide), I called the place they were staying at, asking for Trevor Davies and was thrilled to be put through. I explained truthfully that that day was my 16th birthday and asked if they’d sing Happy Birthday to me, which they kindly did ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Still play their wacky, brilliant original music! Rock on in whatever universe you’re in now, guys and thanks so much for the pleasure you still give me..
That's so awesome! What nice guys to do that 🥰👍 Thanks for sharing and watching ❤️
It is nauseating to remember that even back then, broadcasters and stuffy little men in suits, thought they knew better than we, the people who actually listened to and bought the music. Of course today " snowflakes " rule the world and nobody is grown-up any more, except my generation who don't give a flying f**k what anyone chooses to be offended at. I always loved this little track and remember seeing her on one of the " glad rag balls " that used to happen every year back then. I always wondered why the loathsome Lily Allen never recordered it, as it would have been a surefire number one for her. Thanks for helping people to remember this young lady.
Good stuff, although I don't regard Lily Allen as "loathsome", in fact I quite like her.
Yes that song would have been perfect for Lily 🥰👍 And how society has changed now and not always for the better. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for watching ❤️
I shouldn't have watched this video, I quite liked Twinkle until I realized she was not an ordinary girl trying to make it big, but a big girl that became less than ordinary given what and where she came from; a high diving board.
A great example of inverted snobbery on your part.
Me too.
Still do have two of his records "Cool Night" & "I go crazy". RIP Paul.
Nice looking bird
😅🙄

New one on me a ban on British artists
the BBC banned DOZENS of British artists in those days, various reasons such as apparent advertising (such as Vince Taylor's brilliant rocker "Brand New Cadillac", or for supposedly offending moral or religious subjects, or even for records with rocked-up versions of classical pieces etc etc etc. In the later years esp the 70s when there were pirate radio stations as well as the BBC, getting banned usually helped the records sell more lol.
Twinkle used to go to the Swan rock and roll club in kingston with Alan vigars .sadly deceased .Peter noon thought she was his girlfriend.she opened a boutique in castle street kingston and another in Kensington.she drove a blue triumph spitfire .while dee drove a white one.i remember we bumped into her one day in a launderette in new Malden all here clothes were in the wash she was just in her underwear.
Oh wow Roy that's awesome! 😃👍 I just love hearing these stories and learning more about these amazing artists ❤ Thank you so much for sharing 🤗💕
O and by the way the blond hair was a wig.but she was still a lovely girl.
@@roycampbell5605 Well that's a shocker! I never would have guessed 😯😁👍
@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv unfortunately her father was also a magistrate in kingston crown court.
The lovely actress Fay Ripley is Twinkle's niece.
Esmerelders Barn was run by the Kray twins.
Twinkle was great fun to be with and more than happy to do a favour for a pal. Much more of a talent than most folk imagine.
She seemed like a very down to earth lady 🥰 Thank you for sharing Malcolm 🤗
He looked like he enjoyed what he did...
He always did didn't he 😁👍❤
Twinkle Ripley was the Aunt of the actress Fay Ripley (Cold Feet)
big fan of STEVE and SWeet. people don't know what theyre missing.
Never bought any of their albums because my tastes are for alternative indie music, but they put out some phenomenal stuff. One might say they were commercial, but it's more like they bent commercial to comply with their musical sensibilities. One of the many strengths the band had was the guitar intensive solo filled songs that never compromised the melodies, "Bodhisattva" being a prime example.
'Terry' is a great record but 'Golden Lights' is even better. Thanks.
I agree; I like them both, but "Golden Lights" is my fave, although it wasn't such a big hit.
Agree .
Before today, I had never heard of her. I just watched a clip from the 1964 NME Poll Winners' Concert, and she's singing Terry. I liked it. She was very pretty, and I noticed that her bangs hairdo was her trademark. When you talked about her upbringing, I knew she came from a Tory family. I'll betcha the bikers were rockers. I remember reading about the US ban years ago due to the glut of UK bands touring the USA. The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, Del Shannon, and Mike D'Abo are some accolades.
Yes the bikers were rockers Chris! 😁👍 And very surprised by the US ban considering it's bringing more money into the country when you think about it but things were different back then. Not everything was about money like it is now sadly. Thanks for commenting and watching. Always look forward to seeing you here my friend 🤗💕
