He does that on most of his studio albums. Such a superb musician must lead his own way to achieve the sound and honest feel of the piece. Sir Paul is a genius who is a gentleman. Legendary!
This is from his first solo album just as the Beatles were splitting up. He played all instruments and made it to overcome a depression over the breakup. Song is dedicated to his wife Linda who got him through it.
This song is a great example of Paul using both the loud and soft ranges of his voice. If you really want to hear Paul throw that screaming side of his voice out there to the maximum, listen to either 'Helter Skelter' or 'Why Don't We Do It In the Road', both by the Beatles.
The Let It Be documentary shows how good Paul was at songwriting, he would sit at a piano for hours, days, even weeks just going over chord progressions and humming until he fleshed out lyrics, crafting amazing songs.
If anyone is interested in seeing the documentary that Carvin just mentioned, it's called The Beatles--Get Back. And I agree, it captures Paul's ability at coming up with amazing songs!
Paul was the first performer that was nicknamed "The Voice". His voice is chameleon like smooth, or rough, high pitched or low, fast or slow. This is why he is the #1 recording artist of all time.
Frank Sinatra was nicknamed "The Voice" in the 1940s. I once heard McCartney say in an interview he had two voices: His Elvis voice, which he used on ballads, and his Little Richard voice, which he used on rockers. On some songs, like Maybe I'm Amazed, he used both voices. That said, you're right to say he's one of the best singers in rock history-way underrated as a pure singer.
Pauls solo career is sooo underrated ..one could find endless different varieties of genres ...One could find 50 glittering works of art in his song catalogue apart from his Beatles stuff.
@@MUE4731 😂😂😂 79 year old McCartney’s album, McCartney 3 was at the top of the Billboard chart is 2021. He’s consistently brought out new class music. And unless you’ve listened to it all. Which I know you haven’t. Then you really are no judge of his work. He is after all the best selling artist of all time 🤷♀️
When Paul goes up to that high “eewwwww”….he does that a lot going all the way back to the early Beatles. It’s a Little Richard technique that Little Richard himself taught Paul McCartney how to do.
This was right after "The Beatles" split up, and Paul became a solo artist. This song is wonderful. Paul plays every instrument on the entire album, on every song. He did the tracks separately, and then mixed them into one song trac. To say Paul was talented, is to say Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird were "good" Basketball players. Paul was a genius.
I have listened to nearly everything Paul has written or played on. alot of it many hundreds of times and this is my favorite Paul song. It might be my favorite song, period. I'll have to think more about that.
Listen to how Paul sings this song. If you had a music group and needed a singer, he'd be a helluva singer to get. Then realize that he plays every instrument in this song. If your group needed a lead guitarist, Paul could do it. If you needed a drummer, Paul could drum with just about any group out there. If you needed a piano/keyboard player, Paul could play keyboard in any band. Of course, Paul is on just about everyone's 10-best list as a bass player. And oh yeah... he's maybe better at songwriting than anything else, if you can believe that. Thankfully, he is still with us and we can still appreciate him. There are not many singular individuals like that over the years who live long enough to be recognized for their contributions to society and the arts.
And as a drummer. One time the asked Ringo how it felt to be the best drummer in the world. His reply “In the world? Hell I’m not even the best drummer in the Beatles!” Not sure how true all that is but it is a great story.
@@jimmyhackles9502 I think it was John Lennon who said that. And I'm sure John meant it as a joke, because Ringo is a great drummer and the Beatles sound better for it. But I'm pretty sure John said that amusing quote.

McCartney played all the instruments on this one, and it's great. However, you really should give a particular live version a listen. It's a famous mid-Seventies performance by Wings, Paul's post-Beatles band. An FM radio classic. Gritty guitar, heavy drums, a terrific ending that's way better that the fade out you just listened to, and McCartney's incredible vocals and piano sounding HUGE in the sports arena. And then you hear the joy of audience cheering. An already great song made perfect.
This was off Paul's first solo album titled "McCartney". Paul played all the instruments, sang all the lyrics, with some backup from his wife Linda, and Linda took all the pictures on the album. So it was 100% McCartney. Great album.
This is probably my favorite McCartney And Wings song. It was written for his wife, Linda (RIP) as was my SECOND favorite Wings song, "My Love". You should check that one out too.
I’m amazed by Paul. I get so sad I wasn’t alive for The Beatles but I’m about to see him in concert for the first time. So excited. And he does have soul. I naturally gravitated to R&B and early Hip-Hop as a kid and I think it’s because I loved Paul’s voice (and solo music) so much.

Both lead vocals are Paul. This is how versatile he was.
Great reaction. Thank you. I do have to say, and its not normally the case, because the music is the most important part, but the official video, with all the pictures of him and his wife and kids, just hits different. Really makes the song pull at your heart strings. Maybe check it out. Maybe you'll be even more amazed .... ❤
He played every instrument 🎸 on these songs
Sir Paul McCartney is a legend.
Live version from Wings across America is the definitive version!
Paul McCartney - My love
This is the song, that if you hear it on vintage radio, they'll use the Wing's Over America Live version. it is superior as McCartney really let's go with great vocal performance. Missed opportunity.
Better guitar solo, too.
Absolutely agree. It's one of those rare songs where the live version is much better than the studio.
Absolutely agree...the wings over America version is ridiculous. He is full on Rockstar in that...well always really but definitely in that
Well, I think this one is superior. Love everything about it. Live versions of this are good but this one is so passionate and I love the instrumentation, all of it. And Linda's vocals.
Possibly ther most earnest, heart-felt and honest love song ever written...any woman who doesn't melt to this has a severe emotional problem.
