Doctor Reacts To John Wick Fight Injuries

- John Wick is not just a super popular action movie series, but one of my favorite movie series of all time. After watching these movies over and over I realized something: there sure were a lot of injuries that stretched the imagination a little more than could be believed. So, I compiled all of the punches, shots, wounds, kicks, falls, and everything in between into one video to assess how accurate the conflict in John Wick really is. Keanu Reeves is an awesome actor, but no matter how good he is, there’s only so much belief I can suspend. Specifically, we talk about concussions, broken noses, solar plexus, bone bruises, GI disturbances, GSW’s, bleeding out, MCL tears, blisters, thyroids, stapling a wound, vertebral fractures, blood clotting, dislocated thumbs, suffocation, femur strength, sutures, and bad Russian. Let me know down below if you liked this and whether I should take a look at the other movies in the series too!
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Zach Snyder Batman has entered the chat.
@@nickllama5296 Fair enough, but he’d be wise to stay away from John Wick’s dog, just in case.
I think John Wick is fairly successful when it comes to improvisation without preparation during his fights. I bet he didn't plan on ending a 7 foot 4 inch assassin with a library book after all.
@@J4M3ST1T3 True, and Batman is excellent at improvisation too. Same for characters like Jason Bourne. I just liked comparing the two characters. And being prepared and fully geared up still makes them more dangerous.
@@maxnorton1209 Absolutely, I really like the fact that some of these films like John Wick, Bourne and Atomic Blonde are more grounded in reality these days. They don't make out that the character is invincible, they take damage during the fights and it affects them in a real world way, slowing them down, knocking them off their stride and showing the pain inflicted. Unlike films of not that long ago when the lead character would take several blows to the head and face but get little more than a scratch and carry on to defeat half a dozen henchmen with little effort.
The tossing off one's shoulders from a fireman carry is genuinely superb easy. We don't do it in Judo or BJJ for safety, so we maintain control, but yes. It's realistic. You can 100% toss someone off like that and send them flying.
The leg trip, with the right kuzushi, can also easily be done to the point where you go heels high up. Legit stuff.

He does competition shooting and he's very good. The videos are entertaining.
ok
@@haleywilson520, 58 now. He’s still got a lot left in him. Very impressive.
Two things.
1: one reason I really like John Wick is that it is, for the most part, rather realistic. Like, John gets hit and injured, so he’s not portrayed as this godlike man, he’s just really skilled. And most of his kills are head shots.
2: I’ve always thought that a doctor who knows how to really fight, would be a terrifying opponent. They know just where to hit to cause the most pain, or for you to bleed but not die, or die both slowly and painfully. It’s kinda scary.
john wick's awesome but its no where close to being realistic
What's realistic? He wouldn't be able to throw a punch after the very first scene lol. The Bourne movies were realistic, but John wick is hilariously unrealistic
There is an Italian comedy about a group of university researchers, real experts in their respective fields who are left without a job because our University system does not reward actual merit but rather having friends in the right place (it's a bit of an exaggeration but just a bit) so they basically team up and become crime lords.
The chemist and biologist synthesises a super-addictive MDMA-like drug, the economist develops a foolproof marketing/distribution model and there is also a doctor/expert in anatomy that is the resident martial arts expert because he knows how to cause just enough pain in the best way.
(My favourite is the social anthropologist that's basically the con man/undercover agent because he can fake any accent and infiltrate any social circle by mimicking their body language and social habits and the two linguists that argue in Latin)

So, about the scene where he "kicks" that dudes foot, it's actually possible to make it happen. Well, basically there a lot of judo and jiu jitsu moves in the movie and this move an example, so there is a point on your feet that if you have a good timing and depending on how you're going to move the other person's arms you can make that person fall in a super easy way, and this move is called De ashi harai
That's what I said yay another martial arts lover

@@ambition1066 yup
Appreciate the combat info.
4:11 Well thanks for telling me this now for fun I've moved that part around
6:08 totally had me there
6:24
Actually for me it’s realistic. In wrestling we do a move called a sweep single and basically sweep the other wrestlers leg in the air with our own leg (kinda what he did) and sometimes (not all the time) their legs end up flying like this
Military grade martial arts have a similar technique. To get the legs over the head you need to either be using momentum against them or adding force in your own movement to force them up. A notable use of this is a kick reversal where a kick is caught, the off balance leg is swept and the caught leg is pushed to make it a flip onto the back or neck. Depending on how much rotation you get and how high the reversed kick was it's a fatal counter because it's bringing a lot of weight and momentum down onto the head or neck.
It would depend if during the move you stepped to the opposite side
Yes, but that specific kick did not have the power to do that
Judoka here, it's absolutely a real technique, and in Judo we call it De Ashi Barai. It requires really accurate timing, but when you pull it off, the adversary goes flying just like we see in the clip.
@@darthmamdouh I am doing Judo for 9 years and i must agree

@@faustomadebr The simple fact that the movie shows that the mags have actual capacity limits and they're shown having to reload and Wick does press checks on his pistols is amazing
@@danielburke911 It goes further than that. The press checks you mention (checking the chamber after reloading), he does that everytime he reload that one gun, but he does that only for one gun, not the other guns he use during the movie. I'm really impressed by this guy's reaction to everything but although there is some point where he thinks that the combat is unrealistic. I'm here to unravel the truth in the combat within every single thing that he pointed out unrealistic about John wick combat. The scene where he cracks the neck of the evil guy when he was trying to drown him, IS a real Juijitsu move, Juijitsu at its finest is about breaking bones while grappling or locking someone. The "unrealistic" flipping move is a martial art called Judo and also mixed with Aikido.

The protective way Dr. Mike is with Bear, that’s a good Papa🐾❤
So i happen to be a fighter myself (started taking classes roughlt 5-6 years ago) and i can attest that the movie actually is super realistic with how people react. That leg kick where his legs go over his hesd is very real, thats a judo move. The "effortless" throw where she flies off his shoulder is also real, hes combining her momentum with muscles in his arms, back and a little bit in the legs.
This obviously isnt an insult as i wont deny, those specific moves do tend to look impossible or fake even in real life when you see it. There are other effortless throws like that one that i almost think aren't real until they are done to me.
The thing about the world of John Wick is that everything is a 50/50 between sheer skill and knowledge, and tradition. Thats why wick drinks alcohol even when he is bleeding. Or why while he is very, VERY aware of anatomy and what part of your body does what, john relies on a doctor to fix him whenever possible. The world follows a very seperate set of rules.
But in real life youd be right, the alcohol thing just doesn't make sense.

Just to commit this point, 6:25 - during the judo wrestle, this is very likely realistic, speaking with a view of experience. It's not the way of a kick, but rather the co-directional leg sweep, when executed, his torso almost stays in position and just pivots, but legs can go high enough, when the torso starting to fall.
Dr. Mike casually: "Yeah so, suffocation is a big problem."
That is an understatement, Sir.
