Love how Paul simply lets us know what he's going through after the Beatles breakup and how much Linda did for his musical recovery. He put this together all on his own, playing all the instruments himself, first of 3 albums in this real solo style. Linda did some backing vocals. This was the album of his finding his own identity, before moving forward into Wings. He learned his vocal 'screaming' from Little Richard, who taught him how to do it to protect his vocal chords.
A true solo song as he plays every instrument with Linda contributing backing vocals. He recorded the whole song in one day and recorded another song that day at Abbey Road as well.
Linda's parents lived in East Hampton NY where I grew up. Paul and Linda were there quite a bit. My sister worked in the Caldor music dept. Paul and Linda walked in. He asked if they sold guitars. He wanted to play happy birthday for Linda's father. By the way, she was listening to the Stones and he said to her " you really like these guys?" Linda said "I really like them too"
No it wont. The magic he put in far outweighs what will be taken back. We all have a limited time offer. Its what you do with the cheeseburgers in the cheesburger locker that matters, Bobandy.

Paul - Admiral Halsey/Uncle Albert George - What Is Life, All Things Must Pass John - Watching the Wheels, Jealous Guy, Instant Karma Ringo - It Don't Come Easy, Photograph
Admiral/Uncle: definitely a must hear...and of all the solo work from any of them, this sounds the most like a Beatles song to me in a charming way that’s the essence of McCartney

And the context is that the love he espouses is for his wife Linda McCartney whom he credited with getting him through the very difficult time of the breakup of the Beatles. Linda is also the background singer on this track and she later died of cancer, making this song all the more poignant.
Paul learned a lot from Little Richard when they toured with him. Paul never warmed up either. John envied Paul’s voice and asked how he did it. Paul said it just comes out the top off my head. After all those years of smoking Gauloises , only as he approaches 80 is his voice showing signs of wear.
Yep the live version is the best by a county mile. If it wasn't for the live version being a top 10 hit and huge FM radio staple, this song wouldn't have even been mentioned in a poll. It just would have been another random McCartney solo song
@@joeharley5868 Of course it doesn't. Where did I say that Radio popularity makes the song better ? You seem to have missed the point that without the live version, this song would have most likely not even be in the running in a poll like this. The original had no where near the airplay that the live version had. Which version you prefer or think better isn't the main point...Most importantly, I would bet that the over whelming majority of the people that voted for this song expected to hear the live version. The comments clearly bear that out
George Harrison “What is Life”, Ringo Starr “Photograph”, John Lennon “Whatever Gets You Through the Night”, Paul McCartney “Let Me Roll it”, “Jet”, “Junk”, “Every Night”, entire “Back to the Egg” album. Yes, Paul is my favorite, by far.
When Paul "digs in" on vocals, --he's 'diggin'' one of his heroes, Little Richard! A Good/Surprising FUNKY Lennon solo: "What You Got" from Walls and Bridges ('75). Harrison: "What is Life?" Starr: "Photograph." Thanks guys, --happy still-new year!
Am I the only person who prefers this version to the live version? McCartney has such a great voice and is an incredibly gifted musician. Just McCartney and his wife Linda on this song. Wow.
Paul McCartney wrote this song, played all the instruments and recorded it on a primitive 4-track recorder at his home, over 50 years ago! He and Linda did all the vocals. A great song, with great emotions and an amazing accomplishment.
George Harrison wrote one of the greatest love songs ever to his then wife, Patty Boyd. That song - "Something." Paul McCartney wrote this love song to his biggest love, his wife Linda. Differences between the styles of the two songs is that George sang his song with an easy vocal, sensual, like he's laying in bed next to her singing the song. Paul, on the other hand, sang his song with pure, ramped up passion. When he sang his song, you KNOW he meant every word he sang. Both songs are great. The talent that was all four members of the Beatles will never be equaled.
Main difference to me is that Paul wrote his song from the heart, with true feelings and passion behind the lyrics. George wrote the song for no one, he said he just wanted to create a love song (after lying and telling Pattie it was for her) and he needed help from his bandmates for the lyrics, so yeah. Also, I'm gonna leave this quote here: "I could never think of words for it. And also because there was a James Taylor song called ‘Something In The Way She Moves’ which is the first line of that(...)"
@@dyanapomp Something is more similar to Yesterday for that reason, it's a highly polished love song even if written with the help of others (I don't think it's a knock that John helped him a lot, he had the core of the song down), but Maybe I'm Amazed is mature enough to put more genuine emotion into it, a genuine screamer.
My post-Beatles Favs: McCartney "Maybe I'm amazed", "Uncle Albert". Lennon "Imagine", "#9 dream". Ringo "Photograph", "It don't come easy". Harrison "My sweet Lord", "What is life"
"Maybe I`m Amazed" was originally going to be on the Beatle`s "Let It Be" Album but Paul hung onto it knowing the Beatles were going to break up & released on this - his first solo album. He plays, sings, engineered and produced the entire album by himself. Linda helps out on some of the vocal harmonies. A really great tune he did was "Live & Let Die". A tune he wrote for the James Bond film. The production on "Live & Let Die" is one of the best ever heard. Also one of the best live performances of a song I was lucky enough to have heard. Great having you guys around.
When The Who released The Who Sell Out and the “I Can See For Miles” single, the group once again caught McCartney’s attention. When he wrote “Helter Skelter,” McCartney said he wanted to top the raucousness of “I Can See For Miles.”
McCartney never named “I Can See For miles” as the song. He said that he’d read in a magazine that Pete Townsend said that The Who were recording “the loudest, dirtiest song ever” and he thought about doing that himself, as a challenge,. Only retrospectively did people try to work out which song was current for The Who and it happened to be “I Can See For Miles” but obviously that song, as released, is not particularly heavy let alone the loudest, dirtiest ever so no one actually knows which song it was or whether The Who even recorded such a song at that time
The live version of “Amazed” is a lot better. I believe it’s on the “Wings over America” album. Another signature song from his band Wings is “Band on the run”. And “Jet”. Have a fabulous weekend guys! 🎸🎹🥁🎤🎧
I know news flash but Macca is so talented. He can play so many instruments (like in this song he plays all of them) but also his singing is immense! He can do the ballads obviously but he can rock out and scream with the best of them✌️
One of Paul's best songs. Great vocals, great instrumental choices, and that chromatic piano riff is just iconic now. WIth respect to the chucka-chucka muting on the guitar, that's a good example of something the Beatles did well: when you repeat a section, change something up every time.
I once saw him perform in front of a small studio audience, with a full set of band instruments, and looping recording methods. He then took a simple phrase, like "I'm going I have to go," or something like that, he then played every instrument, including drums and keyboards, and then Viola! a decent beat and groove in 15 minutes-from nothing!! A modern Mozert.
I remember listening to Radio Luxembourg (208M) at night under the covers in bed through a little earplug when I was supposed to be sleeping. I loved this song, his delivery (3rd time around?) of "and Jet, I thought that the major was a real lady suffragette [sounds like 'suffer-a-jet'] " is still hair-raising.
These are real raw feelings Paul is giving us. He's a man so in love with his wife Linda McCartney, she helped him transition after the Beatles broke up. When Paul McCartney & Wings formed, Paul insisted Linda be involved in all of his music projects so they would never be apart when the band was on tour. She was a photographer, musician, song writer and beautiful soul. She passed away from cancer. There's another song to check out, "My Love". Another beauty for has wife and true love Linda. Also " Let Me Roll It", "Venus and Mars Rockshow" which was the intro song on tour. Happy Friday friends, stay safe!
I recently saw one of the more bizarre public events that I have encountered. I encourage everybody to follow up. Apparently, the original Nutbush City by Ike and Tina has become the unofficial national anthem of Australia. Everybody who has grown up there since that song knows it by heart. Why? Because there is a dance that came from it. It is a line dance, learned by preschoolers, that is very, very good exercise. I was a good amateur athlete and would have needed a personal trainer for several months to do this dance/aerobic exercise.
Other Paul McCartney & Wings songs to react to (and I hope they don't get blocked) are: "Junior's Farm", "Venus & Mars (which then goes into Rockshow)", "Jet", dang, there's so many to choose from! 😺
Gentlemen,. I have reviewed the subscribers totals for other channels reacting to similar songs and genres of music. Some have over 600k subscribers, some have broken 100k in short order. My analysis has revealed a serious bias. there is a horrible and pernicious bias against reactors with actual musical knowledge and ability and this is negatively affecting your subscriber numbers and is why your subscribers are so loyal. You impart knowledge in addition to feel. Keep it coming. Cheers.
@Jonathan McDonald There’s probably a lot of truth to that, haha. We’re cool with it, we compare ourselves to who we were yesterday more than others, hence why I think our set/production is the cleanest, and we still have work to do. Part of it also falls on how many videos we drop, many channels drop like 10-15 a week, we believe in quality over quantity. We grow slower but as you see it’s stronger and more stable, like a tree. No interest in this channel ‘blowing up’ overnight. Just consistency, cheers friend! 😁
@@andyandalex I guarantee you if you guys dropped more videos you'd have minimum triple the number of subs you have now. Guaranteed. I understand why you don't... just sayin'.

@flubbert Prob true, and we’ve talked about it and have stuff in the works and basically agreed if we drop more content it’s going to be other content that will be fresh/overlap well with you guys rather than just throwing more of the same. McCartney plays all instruments on here, and it's - hands down - the best song on that album. But there is lots of even better material from his solo records and with WINGS to be discovered.
I’m glad you reacted to the studio version first! Paul McCartney played all of the instruments in the studio version. By the time the epic live version came out on “Wings Over America,” guitarist Jimmy McCulloch had joined Wings, and he absolutely killed it on his Gibson SG. Same kind of guitar played by George Harrison (and later Peter Ham of Badfinger, who Harrison gifted his SG to). Jimmy McCulloch was in another band with Pete Townshend called Thunderclap Newman. They released an amazing song called “Something in the Air” that you should definitely hear. As far as George Harrison goes, his song “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)” is exactly what the world needs right now. 💟☮️
This can stand alongside anything he did with The Beatles. One of the greatest recorded vocal performances of all time. The production was very deliberate, but still has that sort of in the basement by myself feel. He always got tagged as the "cute" Beatle who degenerated into soft pop later on (somewhat justifiably) but when he felt like rocking out, he really could. This is also one of those songs that 40 different artists could cover, and all have interesting takes on. Faces with Rod Stewart did a great live version...
After The Beatles broke up Paul was seriously depressed and drinking heavily. Linda's love pulled him through and this song was written for her. One of his most soul bearing songs he ever wrote. An absolute classic. Other Beatle solo works to listen to : John - Gimme Some Truth Ringo - Photograph George - Wah-Wah
Wanna hear some really great Harrison songs check out "The Traveling Wilburys" and group made up of George, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Lynne, now that was some talented song writing. 😎
Nice reaction fellas! The band that he and Wife Linda formed in the 70’s after the Beatles broke up, called Wings, did some of my favorite music! Check out Let Me Roll It and Hellen Wheels. Paul McCartney is the man!
I'll recommend George Harrison's song "Apple Scruffs" from the "All things must pass" album. Incidentally, "All things must pass" from 1970 was a TRIPLE album that came in an actual box. Double albums were not unheard of back then, but triple albums were usually reserved for Anthologies and "boxed sets" for people who had very lengthy careers. Naturally, as a triple album it was quite expensive. Many fans complained that it should have been a double album, and that there wasn't enough good content to justify it being a triple.
I actually am blessed to have the "All Things Must Pass" boxed album! It's incredible. He was so underappreciated in the Beatles that he had a huge stockpile of incredible music that he could finally release when they broke out! He wanted out first, and it was great for him. He then handpicked friends to be the Traveling Wilburies!
Wonderful reaction fine Gents! Your next Paul McCartney and Wings song should definitely be 1985 it's upbeat and joyful and totally bops! This came off of the first album Paul did after the Beatles broke up & it’s my very best favorite of Paul’s music - actually the whole album is great & I’m so glad u guys chose this recording instead of the live one he did later. Awesome!!!
If you've never gotten to listen to it, you need to check out the Beatles' rooftop concert, where they perform "Don't Let Me Down," "Get Back" and "I've Got a Feeling"...McCartney's vocal on "I've Got a Feeling" has the same grit, as this song. And if you like gritty vocals, you're in dire need of listening to GOV'T MULE! Warren Haynes' voice is pure, bluesy rasp and grit. "Mule" is the first Gov't Mule banger you need to dive into. After listening to it, you'll all yourselves "Why did we wait so long to get into Gov't freakin' Mule?" From there... "Banks of the Deep End" "Mr. Man" "Thorazine Shuffle" "Gonna Send You Back to Georgia" "Brand New Angel"
This is McCartney at his peak and he plays every instrument on this fabulous song . If the Beatles had stayed together this song would have been on their next album and possibly their next single. .
Check out his triple live album “Wings Over America “. There is a KILLER version of Maybe I’m Amazed, along with other solo stuff, as well as Beatles. One of my favorite live albums.
Great choice, guys. Difficult to find someone who has been more of an influence on contemporary music (for 50+ years) or more talented. There are some amazing live versions of this song from over the years, too, true to the original but adding different nuances. His album "Ram" has a lot of incredible music as well, worth a listen and/or reaction!
Todd is Godd... anything everything. (Those who know, understand) Hello It’s Me is a very personal song for me - it just can’t be rated, I’d probably cry (my hello-boy is now dead, waiting on the other side). The first Todd I fell for was We Gotta Get You A Woman. I’d love the boys to react to that. For laughs, maybe Bang Yer Drum... they might like his prog stage - he even dabbled in interactive soundtracks a couple decades ago. The man became the brains behind so many contemporary artists. His genius is both subtle and precise. Godd.
Live version of this song shows the talent of McCartney's band (recorded in the 70's). No hiding behind back tracks or electronics or autotune. Linda was on backing vocals and sounded good.

Lennon's "Love," "Imagine," "Jealous Guy," "Happy Xmas," "Mother," "Give Peace a Chance," "Cold Turkey," "Instant Karma," "Crippled Inside," "Power to the People," "Gimme Some Truth," "Mind Games," and as for Harrison, "My Sweet Lord," "What is Life," "Beware of Darkness," "This Song," "Apple Scruffs," "Crackerbox Palace," and "When We Was Fab."
ALL the songs you mentioned are my Mother's except and "gave" to me GOD Rest Her "+" ( 2019 ) When We Were Fab, amazing and the video too... ALL WE NEED IS LOVE.. but "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a crying song... OH and MY MOM LOVES "My Sweet Lord".. and the whole entire album of "All Things Must Past" But at the same time they ALL ( Beatles) did amazing as solo and in "Wings", "All Star Band", "Plastic ONO" "John Lennon "+" They were ALL VERY talented.. I am soo thankful to my Mother to "give" me the music and I will ALWAYS play the songs and LOVE them just like she did. "+"
Great reaction by you guys. McCartney album was 100 percent McCartney. Paul wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, Paul and Linda sang all the songs, and Linda Took all the pictures. Paul learned a lot from Little Richard when they toured with him. Paul never warmed up either. John envied Paul’s voice and asked how he did it. Paul said it just comes out the top off my head. After all those years of smoking Gauloises , only as he approaches 80 is his voice showing signs of wear.
@@montymontano8618 I'd say Paul's voice began to subtly decline (but from a commanding hight) by the 80s. By the late 90s, the difference was obvious.
@@makeadifference4all check out the live 2017 version, a lot of that higher register is there
"Maybe I'll Be Amazed" at your reaction... anything Paul McCartney does is great in my book. "Live And Let Die" is also a good tune.❤🤘
LIVE AND LET DIE...live version!
I predict that Alex has heard the Guns and Roses version.
This is one of the greatest love songs ever written. And just my opinion, but the live version kills this version.
No way, not even in the same galaxy.
I agree, the live version is absolutely the definitive version. He amps up the emotion to ludicrous levels.
Beatles, Wings, solo, singing, writing...............There is NO ONE better.......
This isn't just a GOOD song--it is a GREAT song--maybe the most heart=felt, honest, and genuine love song ever written...
If you play this song backwards you'll hear a recipe for a really ripping lentil soup.
Really? I’m sure I hear Paul saying “I am dead...I am dead.” 😆
Hahahahaha!
Yeah? I heard:
!dezamA m'I ybaB, repeated over and over..
which is clearly demonic illuminati language for Hi folks! I'm Billy Shears!
@@papercup2517 Clearly you had the FBI working on that one 😂
@@lynnarthur_stillkickin2024 :-)
The live version (Wings Over America) is even better.
Disagree. IMO he put his cutsie touches onto the live version. Still very good, but I prefer the studio version.
Nope.
Yep the live version is the best by a county mile. If it wasn't for the live version being a top 10 hit and huge FM radio staple, this song wouldn't have even been mentioned in a poll. It just would have been another random McCartney solo song
@@robf7213 Radio popularity doesn't make it better, of course.
It's fun watching the younger people listening to music for the 1st time that I've heard my entire life
Another thing to remember is that none of them were over 30 when the band ended, he was around 28 when his first solo album dropped, holy moly
The way he hits the keys at that moment is all Little Richard, too!
Little Richard, the original "Rock and Roll" voice!
Little Richard sucked compared to this.
I thought it was the influence of Little Richard I spotted in "Oh Darlin!"
Am I the only person who prefers this version to the live version? McCartney has such a great voice and is an incredibly gifted musician. Just McCartney and his wife Linda on this song. Wow.
"Band On The Run" full album reaction.
Without a doubt
This. Mrs. Vanderbit/Washington (I never can remember which made the title. Jet, Title track Let me roll it to you. All great songs.
That and Ram.
Oh my god you must
Paul McCartney wrote this song, played all the instruments and recorded it on a primitive 4-track recorder at his home, over 50 years ago! He and Linda did all the vocals. A great song, with great emotions and an amazing accomplishment.
George Harrison wrote one of the greatest love songs ever to his then wife, Patty Boyd. That song - "Something."
Paul McCartney wrote this love song to his biggest love, his wife Linda.
Also, I'm gonna leave this quote here:
"I could never think of words for it.
I've seen Sir Paul in concert a few times - and this song generally gets the crowd up and moving!
My post-Beatles Favs: McCartney "Maybe I'm amazed", "Uncle Albert". Lennon "Imagine", "#9 dream". Ringo "Photograph", "It don't come easy". Harrison "My sweet Lord", "What is life"
Cant forget got my mind set on you by George
The live version of this song from his 1977 tour was the radio hit and up until recently was the only version played. It’s even more amazing.
Only retrospectively did people try to work out which song was current for The Who and it happened to be “I Can See For Miles” but obviously that song, as released, is not particularly heavy let alone the loudest, dirtiest ever so no one actually knows which song it was or whether The Who even recorded such a song at that time
GOOOOOOOOOD MORNING MY A&A BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!!!!!
The live version of “Amazed” is a lot better. I believe it’s on the “Wings over America” album. Another signature song from his band Wings is “Band on the run”. And “Jet”. Have a fabulous weekend guys! 🎸🎹🥁🎤🎧
I agree.
That’s the only version in my book. This one is not near as good
The live version amazing
My opinion may be unpopular, but I always thought the live version was terrible. Like this one a lot better.
I think the live version is the first version I heard on the radio. Imo, it's just more dynamic and punchier. Especially
the guitars.
And remember .... McCartney played ALL instruments on this album.
He did all of the backing vocals as well!
@@michaelfletcher9640 He didn’t! Linda’s all over this album on backing vocals.
AND...he's self-taught!
Can't stress this enough. Brilliant!
A good example of his range as a rock&roll singer can be heard on "I've Got A Feeling" from the Rooftop Concert.
Check out Paul McCartney's song "Jet".
Anything from "RAM" or "Band on The Run"
George Harrison’s The Ballad of sir Frankie crisp...epic song, one of his very best, you’ll love it I swear!

Now so overdue!
Yawn........
Been asking for a reaction to Nutbush by Tina and Seger's awesome cover from his Live Bullet LP!
@@patches1589 you are so right do the Seger cover banger deluxe!
No doubt. Wings had a lot of bangers. Soily, Hi Hi Hi, Beware My Love, Old Siam Sir, and The Rockestra theme all come to mind.

Cheers.
@Jonathan McDonald
There’s probably a lot of truth to that, haha.
And they also don't shove merch in your face right up front like an infomercial. You can tell their music fans and the other stuff just falls into place.
@flubbert
Prob true, and we’ve talked about it and have stuff in the works and basically agreed if we drop more content it’s going to be other content that will be fresh/overlap well with you guys rather than just throwing more of the same. Where we can use things like Deep Cut streams to give more reactions without muddying up the water. We have some interviews with people planned and feel that will be a great content type for you guys as well as for our growth, we’ll see how things go, just very excited for 21’ and to give you guys everything we’ve got.
@@andyandalex You don't want blow up over night anyway. There are a lot of songs in the world, but they are not infinite, and not everyone likes them all. Eventually, all music reactors burn through the classics, and end up struggling to find songs that have their own large fan base.
McCartney and Ram are the two Paul albums that should get the full listening treatment, both are masterpieces!
"The world's first blend of heavy metal and bluegrass." Steve Earle - Copperhead Road
Jimmy McCulloch doing Medicine Jar is one of the best tracks on Wings Over America. Amazing guitar player.
@@simonspeak9288 yes, he was brilliant on Medicine Jar. Had he not died so young we’d still be hearing about him, his talent was so great.
Besides this being the best of McCartney’s solo work; it’s that album cover which is so iconic...everybody knows it’s McCartney 😍
I agree on the cover art but I think Ram is a superior listen.
Watch the mid 70’s Concert titled “RockShow”
It’s well worth anyone’s time! Paul and Wings at their best!!
Wings were outta this world, LIVE! Not so much on this.
Other Beatle solo works to listen to :
John - Gimme Some Truth
Ringo - Photograph
George - Wah-Wah
Since you guys have been requesting straight bangers, I'd recommend "Hi, Hi, Hi" from McCartney's catalogue.
I had forgotten this song til you posted and then it started running through my head !!!
We're gona get High, high, high

Wanna hear some really great Harrison songs check out "The Traveling Wilburys" and group made up of George, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and Jeff Lynne, now that was some talented song writing. 😎
And Give Me Love.
Anything by George is better than anything by Paul.....

If you wanna hear Paul McCartney’s “Rock n roll voice” as you called it then I suggestion listen to “Long Tall Sally”.
I was one of those fans...
The third lp with a bunch of boring jams should not have been included.
IMO, those people were wrong.the third LP is just a jam. The other 2 records do not contain one bad song in them. I love them all.
All I can say that after it came out All Things was the "It" album. The list of musicians is a who's who of rockers at the time.
George Harrison What Is Life and My Sweet Lord are incredible.

After listening to it, you'll all yourselves "Why did we wait so long to get into Gov't freakin' Mule?"
From there...

Great choice, guys. Difficult to find someone who has been more of an influence on contemporary music (for 50+ years) or more talented.
