Thank you for sharing 🙏. I planted Calendula for the first time last season and they added so much to the environmental life. Am so glad to find how more wonderful they are. Am certainly going to enjoy them more this coming season. Thank you and blessings 🙏❤️
You did a wonderful job, i love the way you answer each question with respect, through some of the comments are rude and provoking, you ignore but rather look at the positive side. You just earned my subscription for that. Keep it up
Very well done video. Relaxing and informative. Melting everything right in the jar instead of in a pan was practical in terms of clean-up, but also a step-saver, less waste and more sanitary. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼 & all the best!
Great video 👍just a few tips: the easyest way to get label glue off of jar is by makeing a paste with bakingsoda and any cheap oil smear it on jar , let sit for 10 mins then wipe off ( some times you may need to lightly scrub with steel wool pad ) this is the easiest method iv found by far . Also if you melt your bees wax and hard oils first befor adding infused oil it is less time your infused oil is heated up for in case the plant constitutes or oil is heat sensitive.
You bring up good points here. I'm not aware of damage that would occur from the sun for the amount of time I suggest (provided it's not in extreme heat), and from what i understand, cold infusions take longer. I can see an argument for both, though!
Cool video! I already bought some calendula seeds to try to start early indoors for next spring so I can make my own salve. I have already done that with a few native plants, like I’ve harvested young plantain leaves to infuse in olive oil. I’ve got some infused oil going now with mullein flowers too.
I make a salve with 2/3 of a cup of calendula oil, 1/3 cup plantain (Plantago, not the banana) oil and 1 oz by weight of beeswax. My adult kids call it Magic Salve - great for sunburn, kitchen burns, minor cuts and abrasions (not open wounds) and as a skin moisturizer.
Hey what is ur thoughts about adding Almond oil for infusing process ?! And what about grinding dried calendula and to put in infusion process may speed up absorbing job right ! Hope uh will answer to me as iam allergenic almost every lip balms and my lips are being crazy .Hope uh will help me out ❤
Hi i must say that your video is timely and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to teach us. I would like to ask though, can i just use shea butter for the salve? I have lots of shea butter and years of experience with it; however, i notice that almost all the salves requires bees wax. Can i use shea butter instead of bees wax?
Thank you, I'm glad you found it so! I have never omitted beeswax, so I can't tell you from personal experience, but if you do choose to omit it there are a couple of possible outcomes 1.) The salve might be more liquid than normal and 2.) The beeswax helps to hold the moisture in your skin, acting as a barrier. Therefore, it might not be quite as effective but you could give it a try and see if it works!
Yep,it's all about trial & error & finding what suits you,if you are making it for yourself of course.. Enjoy the whole experience of making it,getting out in nature, enjoy the process.. Have a blessed & beautiful day ✌️☮️🍄🌼🌱🍁✌️☮️🍄🌼🌱🍁
One thing I like is that they don't always look the same and im sure I've seen some on accident walking around and assumed they were sunflowers. It said its related to sunflowers but its in the daisy family as well
I'm sure many people, myself included, have walked right past them without giving a second thought. In my experience, they are much smaller than sunflowers so perhaps that helps!
Woooooooooooooooowwww but it did say it treated dermatitis but thats amazing i usually use safflower for oil for face and tea with hibiscus Im surprised because I stumbled across it for supporting healthy lymphatic system but it really does embody healing and beauty
This was a lovely video! I'm planning on buying some dried calendula flowers(not really able to plant it anytime soon rn) so I've been watching lots of oil infusing videos. I've seen some where they blend the dried flowers until ground for the infusion but some where they use just the whole flower, like yourself. I tried googling which is more effective but couldn't find an article about it so I was curious what your thoughts were? Thank you for this great content! I look forward to seeing more videos from you
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you liked it! That's a really good question. I suppose you could pulverize the flowers a bit, as long as they don't become so small the infusion becomes difficult to strain. When cooking with herbs, they say keeping them whole and intact until you're about to use them will help preserve their potency. So, I do understand the logic behind blending them. All I can say is I use the calendula salve quite a bit, and it has been effective enough for us without blending them prior to infusing.
You're welcome. I'm not sure about magnesium flakes -- I'm unaware of any reason why you couldn't, but I have not personal experience using them in salves. Let us know if you decide to try it!
That is fancy calendula. Try Calendula Resina for medicinal use because of gigh resin content. You will definitely use scissors with this type because of stickyness(oils).😊
@@MrsCrunchy I just bought one because it touted oil & butter infusions. Apparently, you can infuse an oil in 2-4 hours versus months. Waiting on my herbs to arrive to test it out.
@@MaN-pw1bn Hi. Was wondering how the oil & butter infusion machine worked out? Can you please say the brand and cost to buy? Thank you in advance for any info you’d like to share. Happy New Year.
@@adriankap2978 Hi Adrian, Happy New Year to you as well. I'm waiting on my fresh herbs for this year to start testing now that I have my bases/jars ready for other types of skin/health products but, the butter infusions were crazy good. I bought this one: Magical Butter Machine MB2E Butter Maker Herb Infuser Gummy Maker Machine with Cookbook Included on Amz ($200). If it can infuse the butter, I have no reason to doubt that it will infuse other oils and the controlled heat won't destroy the benefits of the herb/base. The infuser is also easy to use/clean & came with nice add-ons and gives some tips that can apply to other types of creations. I thought the $200 was worth the processing time speed and I also like that I didn't have to babysit the temperature/process. Hope you find this helpful.
Can you help me understand the difference between picking them fresh and drying them as opposed to picking them later when they have dried up on the stem?
I guess my initial thought is I'm not patient enough to wait until they have all dried! In my experience, the blooms don't all dry at once, so that's why I would rather pick them; so I know I'll have a large batch of dried blooms.
Why do you need to dry them can't you make a tea with the fresh flowers. 🤔 Can you make a tea with the green leaves of the plant. 🤔 Can you use it in a vodka tonic . 🤔
Drying the flowers removes the moisture, which decreases the chance of bad bacteria building up. I only use the flowers for tea, and from what I see, most people only use the flowers as well. Perhaps a mixologist can weigh in here for your last question. At the very least, it makes a very pretty garnish!
Good question. I haven't added tea tree oil, so unfortunately I can't give you an answer but I'm not aware of a reason why you couldn't try it. Since it's going on your skin, you wouldn't want to add too much since tea tree oil can be an irritant. I think as long as you make sure your calendula is completely dry, and any containers you use for infusion are completely sterilized and dry, you wouldn't need the tea tree oil.
I think it could, yes! I'm not an expert on causes of acne, but I believe some kinds of acne are caused by a buildup of extra oil. If this is the case, I would think it could make it worse.
Hi. Something that we found that works to get rid of acne is to cut out all dairy, cheese, milk, whey protein powder included, etc. Read product labels to make sure. if you have allergies, that will almost completely eliminate all allergies to include flowers, tree etc with pollen. My nephew had horrible acne growing up and my sister & bro in law spent $20K going from dr to dr seeking a reason. Finally found a holistic specialist and prescribed dairy elimination. It took about 6 weeks but my nephew was like a whole new kid when it cleared up. This was back in the early to mid 1970’s so 20K then is probably 80K+ today. It’s worth a try. Hope it helps.
Personally, I would steer clear of emulsifying wax. I wasn't familiar with it, so I looked it up. It appears to contain some synthetic chemicals I would prefer not to use on my skin. Beeswax is a more natural alternative.
Do you mean when I was melting the beeswax? I'm not sure what the water content of beeswax is, but I'm guessing it's pretty low. I didn't notice any water droplets evaporating during this process.
I haven't used coconut oil in this salve, but I believe you can. One thing with coconut oil is some people find it too heavy to use on their face. So, if you plan on using it on your face, you might want to test first. I think the beeswax shouldn't be omitted because that is what's going to solidify the salve.
@@MrsCrunchy Thanx for answering! I find Coconut Oil to almost instantly absorb into my skin, and stays solid at room temp. I have no access to Beeswax at the moment, although I am always trying to see where those elusive honeybees go! Sub earned! Thanx again!

See, my problem is that one say put the jar to the sun, the other say put it to a dark cool place. The olive oil is sensitive to light. That is why comes in the dark bottle. Under the sun the oil brakes down or go bed is it not? Please somebody explain this to me. Thanks.
Thank you for asking this, as I've had the same question myself! Olive oil does have a shelf life, and exposing it to sunlight will cut down on that shelf life. That being said, I would start with a new, unopened bottle of olive oil when you infuse it with the calendula. That way, the olive oil shouldn't go rancid within that short period of time.
Provided you keep it in a dark, dry place, it should easily last you for one year! In my experience, it can last longer, but just keep an eye on it, making sure it doesn't start to look or smell "off".
Personally, I have never used an essential oil in this because I love the subtle floral smell and the scent of the olive oil! But, if you wanted to add an essential oil, you could probably add a touch of lavender or rose. It would keep with the floral theme and both of those essential oils are good for the skin.
Ah, a great question! Provided you store the salve in a cool, dark place. And, use clean fingers or a spoon to scoop some out when you need it, it should last for at least several years. However, the efficacy can slowly decrease over time. Personally, I plan on 3-4 years.
I am literally a smidge more than a beginner when it comes to herbs and uses, but I recognize immediately how many things you were teaching incorrectly. I don’t want to be mean, but it’s so unfair of people to do this just to receive likes and shares

I’ve found tea tree oil to be really effective.
