I planted some of these this year. I had a lot of seedlings but unfortunately only 3 survived. I don't have any flowers on it yet, hopefully I will get some. I plan on covering the plant when it frosts so that should give it a little extra time to flower. We had a bad monsoon season this year and it killed a lot of my seedlings.
I had a similar problem. My seeds came from a Washington source, but germination was hard. There were 3 that finally succeeded germination in August. They are just maturing to develop flowers now, October 20.
Hi Melissa, Your videos are very useful, and I want to thank you for this. Please can you let me know if the white flower plant besides the calendula is a yarrow plant? All my best!
Are your herbal classes going to be available in a downloadable file so those of us with possible loss of internet from time to time can keep them on our computer for reference????
perfect timing I have some dried caledula to use! Question, you mentioned keeping the flowers below the oil but mine keep floating to the surface. Is that ok? using the slow method.
I was thinking the same thing. I wonder why you couldn't use lard? If the lard was heated to liquid, it would cover the petals. Could it be stored in the basement or root cellar without going bad?
Is this a salve that could be applied to a leg injury? My mom is suffering from a bad blow to her leg that has caused it to become red and inflamed. She has since had to go on a low dose antibiotic to combat possible cellulitis. Would this help with the inflammation and pain?
May I ask you which state you live? I live in Colorado on the front range and I think my ground is to clay, or it needs more water? I have had an issue. Harris does well and Echinacea, but ugh on the calendula. Yours looks like it gets lots of sun, like mine does.
Thank you, perhaps a bit more rain fall. I will figure it out. It would be nice to have a large area of it and comfort and yarrow. Thank you! Enjoy your videos!
@MelissaKNorris ok... I just noticed when I pick dandelion heads, they can have these Itty bitty bugs. Figured calendula/marigolds etc are similiar and assumed they would have some bugs. At the risk of sounding political... I guess I don't want to eat bugs before I have to. 😂
This is my question, too. I have the 'correct' Latin named Calendula and it has tons of sticky resin, which I have read is what you want. I actually planted 2 different types - Calendula Pacific (MI Gardener) and Calendula Resina (Pinetree) plus had some come up from a flower mix. They're all yellow, none are orange. I got these specifically for herbal use so the 'orange only' thing is throwing me off. @MelissaKNorris
Oh, I just went and checked the instruction web page in the description and it says, "However, for medicinal purposes, we want the orange or yellow flowers." So we're good with the yellow! Yay!
Wow YT, I'm blocked from viewing any of the replies. GRRRRR!! My question is if you are able to harvest only a few at a time. Can you save them in a jar in the refrigerator until you have enough? Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.
@MelissaKNorris thank you, that's what I'll do then. I was just watching you with Doc Jones, and I believe he said all the colors, yellow and orange, are medicinal. I have never seen a pink one either!

Love that you dehydrate some stuff instead of always freeze dry .Freeze dryers are so expensive that I can’t afford one .Thank you
Thrilled to have found you! Thank you for the Calendula teaching. Just such a bright and high-vibe plant 🧡
Thank u for saying only use bright orange ones for medicinal use. That’s important & good to know 😊
I use Grape seed oil. It has vitamin E
Measurements would be nice.
There's a written out blog post with a print button for the tutorial in the video description

What oil would have been used during the depression era? Maybe they would have preserved differently?

Is that Queen Ann's Lace behind you?
No, it's carrots
I was wondering the same thing.
Can this be used for sensitive skin? If so, how would you make it with or without essential oils?
It's not made with essential oils and yes, calendula is a very gentle herb on the skin
@@MelissaKNorris can you buy calendula? If so where?
@@cynthiawinfrey4577 yes all of this is I'm the written recipe on my website, the link is in the video description
@@MelissaKNorris thank you
You don't wash the bugs off before drying?
There wasn't any bugs

What should this oil smell like? It looks fine, but it smells.. stewed? Over cooked/burnt? Not "moldy" or "rancid" smell. Not sure if that's "normal."
So you shouldn't use the yellow? To make your medicinal stuff.

Love your overalls 😍😍😍
You also dont want that top on because condensation will get into the oil and cause bacteria.
