Both the exercises and the games are very practical so dog owners may use them throughout the day to have a well-trained dog. There are training nuggets throughout, both in the step-by-step instructions ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfKlzfzw0sMZ_RgZNzMeOPu6d4b5i5XWl and the troubleshooting sections that will help enrich the lives of both dogs and their owners!

I love his show and thisjust summarizes and lays out all of the basic methods he uses on the show. What i love about this guide ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxKkYeOoCV_w2vPX0CSyVWkhew2c4FYk0d is that you don' need to read the whole book cover to cover ... You can skip to the chapter (lesson) you want to read about. The book is arranged almost as a problem-solving guide ... Here is the problem and here is what you need to know/do to correct it. This man knows his stuff ... But more importantly knows how to teach people how they can work with their pups themselves!

Something I've started doing that really helps is giving my dogs long 'soak times'. Even up to two weeks, no training, just fun and hanging out. When I then go back to see if the training has taken, the dogs are five times better than two weeks ago.

    Hi Mr. George!
    My name is Kenzy.
I'm from Taiwan and I love watching your dog-training video.
I am currently a college student in my forth year and I would like to translate your dog-training video into Chinese so that people here in Taiwan can get to know more about dog-training and you of course!
But this would be my first time doing all this, thus I would like to confirm with you to get your permission.
Let me know if you have any kind of concern or request. I will definitely reply as soon as possible and hopefully we can start making your dog-training video popular in Taiwan!
    Best Regards,
    Kenzy

Hello Zak, do you have any videos or advice on how to teach your puppy or adult dog to not pick up or eat things that they find during walks outside? I have an 8-months old Shiba and she still loves to investigate things that she finds interesting with her mouth. I've taught her the "Drop it!" command but it's still something we're struggling with because she does it so often. I have to keep an eye on her constantly. I would much rather treat the problem at its source and prevent her from picking up things from the ground in the first place. Sometimes dog and cat haters will lay out poison around where I live and I want to protect her from that. Love your training methods and videos, keep up the good work!

Zak, one thing your missing in your videos is a recap at the end. Can you display the important things in a list, as you have so many good things I need to remember that I forget them by the end of the video. This would really help. The leverage of behavioral techniques comes across strong and very interesting to watch - and can also be used in how humans learn, like wages as treats and currency. It really makes you think how the dog is thinking. Request : please add recap lists...

Hey Zak . Quick question, why don't you ever train aggressive dogs? It's the #1 reason why dogs are put down in the USA, dog bites / aggression/ ect. I find your videos helpful...but I'm puzzled why you won't ever work with an aggressive dog? Is it because positive training is not effective on these dogs ? I'm honestly looking for helpful answers. Thanks

I understand the primary and secondary sessions, but at what point can you train your dog to do things without treats needing to be involved? How/when can you tell them to sit, get down, etc. without having to reward them for it, but just expect them to do that? Also, how do you teach your dog/get him to behave in moments when you don't have food available, say if you're on a walk or something and didn't bring anything with you?

My pup is turning 7 months soon and we're having some problems with his prey drive. If we are outside we can't run without him chasing us and biting our ankles. He's very stubborn and when he is in this mindset he does not listen to anything we say. Even when we stop moving he will still circle us and try to bite us. Sometimes he'll even do this when we aren't even running. He also tries to bite at bicycle tires and we can't get him to stop. He doesn't have any herding breeds so we aren't sure why he is so like this.
Another thing we are having SO MUCH TROUBLE with is his recalls. I know you just did a video on it, but our circumstances are a little bit different. We live out in the country with 18 acres of property and we don't have any fenced in areas. We can get him to come if he's just sniffing something or walking around, but if he has something super distracting like a stick he will not come and he will run away from us if we approach him. This makes it very hard to take him places like our grandmothers house because she lives beside a quiet road with no fenced in yard and she has a dog too. I don't like to take him off leash there because he's unreliable and if he doesn't want to come he won't come. My family teases me for being overprotective about him and say that he's "just a dog" but I'm so paranoid about him running off and/or getting hit by a car. He's not scared of them at all and he will walk right in front of a moving vehicle and only slowly walk away when it gets close.
    Please help us!

Tlove this is covered in sophia yin's book "how to behave so your dog behaves" (i recommend it to all dog owners). Basically, you wait for your dog to sit down and look into your eyes (capture the behavior immediately!) before you give the reward.
For my puppy this means if she wants a treat, wants to be cuddled, wants to greet me, wants me to open a door, wants her meal,..... she has to sit down politely and look at me. It needs practice. I use clicker training to accelerate the process.

I REALLY need help with something. So I have a 3 month old husky puppy. He listens to EVERYTHING and I've taught him a lot of things so far. He's so good and he's so obedient. He never leaves my side when we go out which I love. I took him to the beach the other day and he wouldn't go have fun in the water with the other dogs. He was okay with them and would play with them when they'd come up to him but always came back and sat between my legs. He would only swim if I went in the water with him, so I would go in, swim around and he would follow. How do I get him to just go and have fun without me?

Hey Zak, your videos have helped me a lot with my dog, but he's currently 9 months old and the older he gets the more anxious he is becoming (I do understand that his breed is known for being nervous since he's a Belgian Shepherd). He has been in socialization classes since he was 3 months and we've done everything to get him comfortable in parks, however the moment you put a leash on him he becomes super anxious and starts barking and really starts feeling like he's contained or stuck. Do you have any videos to address this or any tips? Thanks.

I have a very smart dog (Bernedoodle) who knows when it's a training session with treats vs real life with no treats. Some things have sunk in but for example, leash walking w/o pulling, is completely treat dependent. She has difficulty being motivated to pair the verbal command without the treat. Would love to see you address this in training approaches.

hii Zak, I need some help :s i'm currently training the neighbor's dog (about 3-4 times a week). Shes a 4 and a half year old mutt, and a while back she had a bad encounter with another dog during a walk. now she associated everything (from the word walk to her leash and harness) with going on walks and she's terrified. she will crown up under a bench, and if very rarely we get her a few steps out of the door, she completely freezes. she ignores everything from great treats to toys to being the goofiest i can be, she just doesn't want anything but to go back.i do play fetch and tug of war with her in the garden, but even so shes getting pretty fat. How do i solve this problem?

Lotte schepens Slowly reintroduce her to the harness, then the leash and maybe walk her around the house so she doesn't associate walks with scary outdoors. Don't forget to reward her! 👍 After a while let her sit right in front of an open door (with her leash on of course) and give her a treat. Maybe after the course of a few days to weeks bring her closer to it and reward her (you can also use good girl as a reward)! 😊

How do you control the environment when you have cats in the house? My dog struggles to listen when the cats are around, but they're inside cats, and I can't always remove them from the situation because they're inside cats. One of our cats likes to provoke him, which is especially unhelpful when trying to keep his attention for training. What would you recommend?

Hi. I have a one and a half month old labrador puppy. I taught him to sit by offering him some treats. But the problem is he only listen to me to sit if I'm offering him treats. Otherwise he just don't listen to me. And also please tell how to teach him other things at this age. Coz he s very curious about things and bites too much.

I am having a problem when walking Lilo, every time he sees another dog he gets excited and starts jumping and hard to handle. I tell him to lay down, which he listen and lays down for a minute or two before he starts jumping in the air and he really wants to play. What is your recommendation in teaching him not to do it anymore? How can I teach us more control over our behavior when seeing other dogs.

I've been training my 9 week old puppy almost every day, but I'm new to this, so I might have been too hard on him, and he is more frustrated and starts biting because of that😅
I don't know how many times in a week i should train him, I know that it should be less then 10 minutes now.

What if your puppy isn't as highly motivated by food, even chicken say. If find mine can have times of the day where a treat won't particularly motivate him. A toy can do. But sometimes he just doesn't seem easy to motivate beyond simple distractions.

Hey. My puppy of 7month is amazing. but anyways. I'm having a problem with trying to get him to walk backwards. Everything I try has failed. he has caught onto everything including running left and right to herd out moo moos for us. he's a pet/working dog. Goes out to the dog parks. He does the cool Frisbee thing (with balls hes still a little uncoordinated for Frisbee) you do with the catch and leave. but to get him to walk backwards gets him to frustrated and gives up so I have to encourage him with tricks he knows to get him back into it. any tips on helping my boy? I am wanting to do agility once he hits 1 but until then he needs to keep his brain occupied haha. thank you to anyone who helps :)
