It was based on a piece of code in the character select screen of MK2, that read "ErMac" (which is short for Error Macro), and people seriously believed it was the name of a character that you could unlock. Mew IS accessible through a glitch in all of the old games. Red, Blue, and Yellow. Just get to Cerulean City and catch Abra, save a could steps above the man in the grass to the left of the Bridge where you fought your rival and walk toward the man. As soon as you get within his sight you pause really fast, it should work, but if it didn't reset and try again, then go to Abra and teleport back to the Pokemon center in town. As soon as you walk back up toward the bridge, MEW will appear there to battle you. You can catch it and train it to your hearts content. A glitch is not a cheat. It's a legit way to get Mew.

Mew in the Truck, and Big Foot in San Andreas were the main 2 that got me. I dunno how much time I spent looking for Big Foot in SA. I remember Survivor 2299. Mew IS accessible through a glitch in all of the old games. Red, Blue, and Yellow. Just get to Cerulean City and catch Abra, save a could steps above the man in the grass to the left of the Bridge where you fought your rival and walk toward the man. As soon as you get within his sight you pause really fast, it should work, but if it didn't reset and try again, then go to Abra and teleport back to the Pokemon center in town. As soon as you walk back up toward the bridge, MEW will appear there to battle you. You can catch it and train it to your hearts content. A glitch is not a cheat. It's a legit way to get Mew.

All Bonds is available with a Game Shark. They were available in the multiplayer select screen. Also with the Game Shark, it is revealed that the 24th cheat was Line Mode. Everything is white in Line Mode with black lines outlining all the objects. After playing it for a bit, it's easy to see why they removed it.
The Sonic in Smash Bros wasn't on the 64, it was Melee where the rumor escalated. It was about 2 years into the fact that SEGA no longer had a console.

The Werewolf in Red Dead Redemption. A rumour/internet urban legend that went on from 2010 to 2012. Apparently, there was a Werewolf roaming around in the Tall Trees area of the map. It was difficult to find, but some players said they had seen it and pictures of it existed. There was a way to get Mew. You had to hit fly just as a certain trainer started to walk towards you, Fly to lavander Town and then walk out of town. you would get attacked by a lvl 5 Mew.
Herobrine isn't exactly notches brother. The is believed to be a hacker that enters peoples minecraft worlds and griefs them. So he is basically a glorified griefer. After he was sighted people ruined the story with wierd claims like that he is notches brother. Even though notch didnt have a brother he did have a sister (side note)

I miss rumors like this. You really don't get them anymore. With the internet and how quickly people can take apart a game to find out what's actually there or not, rumors like Big Foot die quickly. Personally I love rumors. Hunting for Big Foot was some of the most fun I had in San Andreas. Even if I never found anything, just the fact that there MIGHT have been something, was fun. I wish things like that could still happen. Especially in open world games. Rumors like that in Fallout 4 would be great.

The information for Sonic and Tails in Smash is completely wrong. The EGM hoax was for Smash Brothers MELEE, by that time the Dreamcast was dead, and the Sonic games were popping up on the system, making it very possible for Sonic to be included.

...Where in the world is that Pokémon Black rumor from? The one I heard about growing up was a Japan only game that had you start as normal until Nugget Bridge, where you would be recruited into Team Rocket via a dialogue box that kept recurring until you hit 'yes'. The game then proceeded like normal except for reporting to the base each time you acquired a Badge (as you were to infiltrate and run the Elite Four [so that Giovanni can take the mantle for himself then you foil his plan by beating him after the Champion battle]) and some mission dialogue that requested you to catch certain Pokémon before obtaining your next badge (and failure to do so got you berated whilst success granted you praise).
Obviously this was not true, but it would have been awesome and equally as terrifying as having aid cursed Pokémon, as both leave you feeling drained and helpless.
...What is it with Pokémon hoaxes and the feeling of abandonment, hopelessness, and depression? Were we that starved for something dark, or was it caused by the not-so-hidden horrors that were behind some of the Pokémon descriptions? Is it a symptom of the nearly unobtainable completion task that we Americans forced upon ourselves via marketing campaign, or was it stemming from a general bleakness that seemed to emanate from the 90's time period after the hippie dream was lost in a sea of business and bureaucracy (70's) and the business mogul dream was washed away by the self-detrimental shark vs. sheep mentality of the business world that caused its own collapse (80's), leaving a lost, confused, and hopeless generation that was berated by society and the former generation alike for not being able to immediately wash away the failures of the past, thus constantly being judged and criticized by those unable to accept their own failures and projecting their own confusion and disdain on the victims of circumstance and time? Either way, there is no denying that the Pokémon games brought us to interesting places growing up.
