MephestoBrinks Well, I have to disagree with the first part of your statement. Even though they are somewhat expected to happen, how and when they do it is what shocks the player. (This next statement is to clarify so I do not sound like a hypocrite) Deadpool is not really the same because even though it is expected, like MG, it is how often and how upfront they are about it. Deadpool uses fourth wall breaking as a central point and is usually present throughout its medium, a lot of the humour stems from this as Deadpool reacts in either a silly or satirical manner, until it gets the point where one can kind of expect him to say something so it comes as little shock when he does. Metal Gear, on the other hand, does not. They, although consistently, rarely use fourth wall breaks and when they do, not only do you not know when they are going to occur, making it a surprise when they do, but unlike Deadpool they treat every one with the utmost seriousness. As if they are not breaks in the fourth wall. And that what makes Metal Gear fourth wall breaks shocking. You play through this serious, slightly disbelief-suspending, game about conspiracies and weapons of mass destruction and are told to treat everything with the greatest of care. However, when the game become self-aware, it does not lead to jokes and such. They still treat it with complete seriousness. The humour comes from how bizarre it should feel to the characters, while the surprise comes how seriously they take it. That they would talk about it so casually as if it was some great trick, matter of life and death, or just something of concern. (Wish I could explain this better.) Besides that, yes, they should have used the Psycho Mantis example instead.
I was thinking the same thing. Even MGS4 had a fourth wall break. Since the controllers are BT and the trick doesn't work, you could power it off completely and he would laugh and say something about how that trick doesn't work anymore.
There's ABSOLUTELY no way dude put TWO MGS1 moments in there and *didn't* think of the Mantis part which makes it pretty obvious that he did it on purpose

While also looking straight at you, the player.
Cmon you left out Psycho Mantis?,the guys knows every move you're gonna do before you even do it and even reads whats on your memory card. How could you leave him out?
Honestly, I appreciated them not including it. Every other "Top Fourth Wall Breaks" video on UA-cam has that moment and the sanity effects from "Eternal Darkness", so it was nice to see one with some different entries.
Omg mine was actually a pirated version (had a modded X360) or Arkham asylum and it scared the shit out of me! I got up and ran to pull the plug only to realise what really happened. One of the most memorable moments of my life.
i bought mine version of arkham asylum for ps fresh from a local store..when this happened i panicked- switched off the console and cleaned up the surface of the dvd..second attempt..same result! i got so furstrated i got back the game to the store and demanded a change...that is a true story and funny as hell!!!
You might have included Assassin's Creed II when the Ancient starts talking to you instead of Ezio. Or in Witcher III: Blood and Wine when Geralt talks about the journey and then looks at you and smiles
The ancient is a strange one because it's a fourth wall break but an in game one not an out game one. I loved that, I still remember hearing Desmond at that point when you normally never do saying "Wait, what?!"
That game had quite a few 4th wall breaks, like when you're on the torture device and Revolver Ocelot points at the screen saying don't use a turbo function and that he'll know if you do.
"Raiden, Turn the game console off right now""You'll ruin your eyes playing so close to the TV" - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty I'm quite surprised that's not on here nor is Psycho Mantis lol
If you followed the Metal Gear lore religiously, you’d have known that Big Boss never had a shrapnel wound or scar on his forehead nor did he ever have a prosthetic arm. They tried to fourth wall me and play me like a fiddle, but I was already onto them.
A good 4th wall break that not many people notice is at the beginning of the game "Fallout: New Vegas" during the intro cut-seen, where a guy called Benny says (While standing over you tied up with a gun pointed at you) "Sorry you got twisted up in this scene. From where you're kneeling it must seem like an 18-carat run of bad luck. Truth is... this game was rigged from the start."
Spoilers here: TBH the fact Venom Snake still has his blinded eye is proof enough you arent big boss since Snake's real eye was destroyed in a torture scene in Snake Eater BTW, the Sonic thing, you got the wrong game he does that in Sonic CD not Sonic 1
You're all idiots trying to be contrary. The only thing unique to CD is that Sonic will LEAVE after a while and cause a game over, which wasn't mentioned at all. They did show footage of Sonic 1, the Sonic CD footage was supplementary. You're complaining about nothing.
My favorite 4th wall break is in call of duty zombies when you run out of bullets and Dempsey screams "PLAYER PUT DOWN THE CHIPS AND GIVE ME MORE AMMO!"
see, my xbox at the time was really slow, and crashed a bit, so at first i was like "noooo i didn't save" because i fell for it... i waited in agony, for awhile.
+Mega Lozoid You aren't stupid. My brother thought his game broke when he got poisoned on pokemon. He got a whole new game and only then realized that it was a temporary effect.
3:05 Operation Intrude N312 Cassette Tape. What a dream it would have been for all fans if the series continues after this. I really pray every day for the series come back alive from the ashes, from the MSX Metal Gear up to MGS4 remade in the Fox Engine in 60fps 4k. Someday maybe...
Legend of Zelda phantom hourglass - in order to activate the stamp message, the game tells you to close your 3ds and open it again. Then your bottom screen gets stamped with the message you needed after closing it. - nice forth wall break Nintendo.
Why the heck is nobody talking about Undertale? That game doesn’t just break the fourth wall, it shatters it to pieces and makes sure it is no more. The fourth wall isn’t even relevant anymore. You can just jump through space and time as you please. Create and stop alternate timelines, and Sans makes sure you remember Genocide. Flowey remembers. When you kill him in Genocide, and reset, when he does the “friendliness pellet” thing, he doesn’t say a word. Zip. Clearly showing he is mad you killed him in the previous timeline. Even regular characters have foggy memories of previous resets. Flowey can erase your files, and in genocide when Chara permanently alters pacifist so you never get a happy ending again, you have to manually erase the game files for the game to forget it. Uninstalling doesn’t work.
A good 4th wall break came from the game Destroy All Humans! 2. At the beginning of the game Crypto and Reginald were talking about art. Then Crypto suddenly remarks "You do realize the player's in the kitchen making nachos right now." And in another mission you have to find Bongwater. When trying to recap the mission, the hippie gets confused, after which Crypto then remarks "You see, kids? This why you don't do drugs." These are just a couple of examples in the game. The franchise breaks the 4th wall constantly.
"It's been a while since you saved your game" "Don't think about using auto-fire, because I'll know" "You don't have a stereo sound system?" "Raiden, turn the game console off right now."
I like MGSV's ending. To me, it was like a personal message from Kojima to us, the fans. He recognizes that WE helped make the MGS legacy everything it is today. It was Kojimas farewell to us.
JFinker73 I don’t think he originally intended for that to be the end. Kinda seems like he maybe had one more story in him but since the split with Konami happened and he couldn’t fully finish the game he just came up with that ending instead
In Bravely Second they also break the 4th wall :3, the main character asks if someone is out there that can help them and give them a new chance, you have to get out of the game and choose New Game +
angelyuekero That is not the worst 4th wall break pf Bravely Second, though. The final boss speaks directly to you, telling that you shouldn't be inflicting all that pain on the protagonists, and then threatens to delete your game files.
Sometimes I look in a random direction during an argument and say, “yeah...because none of this is real” Incase life is a simulation and I’ll seem like I’m hella self aware to the beings that may be watching
oh i'm sorry, but where is Undertale on this list, come one guys, Photoshop Flowey literally fights you with saves, sans thinks you time travel and asgore breaks the mercy option in the menu, the amount of fourth wall breaks in that game are ridiculous, and you didn't even bother to mention it, god damn it guys, god frickin damn it.
I still love the fact that Asgore is so disgusted with himself for the whole child murder thing he breaks the mercy option because he feels he doesn't deserve mercy.
I think Phantom Pain's ending was briliant. Of course I was frustrated at first to realize this guy I had spent so much time with was not Big Boss but just a random guy, but when you look back at it, you realize this guy is not just some random guy, he actually is Venom Snake, who eventualy became Big Boss as well, an other Big Boss, or more like the other half of the real one, kinda. And I love how the fact that there are actually 2 Big Bosses gives us a new perspective on the entire serie. I think that was a briliant twist, and an excellent way (the only one?) to end the serie.
I don't think MGSV blew anyone's minds. People figured out you wouldn't be playing as Big Boss from the very first trailer, before we even officially knew it was Metal Gear Solid. It was not only poorly written, but telegraphed from the very start of the game. Only thing mind blowing about it was that Kojima thought telling his fans "See, everyone is Big Boss!" would be a good ending. Like, his whole plan with Outer Heaven was to kidnap war orphans, turn them into child soldiers, and use them to fuel a constant state of global warfare; all because he was addicted to war, and killing was his only reason to live. Who wants to be that guy?
If kojima had stuck to his plan of showing us how Big Boss became the villain the world saw then I would have loved to experience all the horrible things he had done first hand
Mark Ondrejech We didn't really need that, though. By the end of Peace Walker he's got a secret nuclear robot that he plans on using as leverage against world superpowers. He has a completely rogue army of mercenaries that he flat out states will operate as terrorists and revolutionaries. He has no problem with having Chico, a child, as part of his military machine. When Ground Zeroes starts part of the MSF todo list is destroying documents to try and hide Metal Gear. He was already evil at that point, it was just harder for the audience to notice since we see it all from his perspective, and from his perspective none of it seems that bad. A game about Big Boss going evil was unnecessary, what was necessary was having a moment where they make the players realize we went to the dark side a long time ago. The really interesting thing would have been explaining how he started FOXHOUND while running Outer Heaven, and how the comic relief radio team from Snake Eater became an evil shadow government. Instead, Kojima decided to portray Venom as this totally perfect guy who is never evil, and even places the blame on the creation of The Patriots out of Zero's hands. The answer to the question of how the villains became evil was that they actually weren't evil all along, and it was all an accident/Skull Face/out of control AI. Kojima always did say each MGS was the last, and it really shows. He sort of wrote himself into a corner, and there wasn't really any way another Big Boss game was going to effectively bridge any perceived gaps in the story.
***** I think it's mostly his fault. He consistently failed to keep his games on time and on budget, often delaying them by years and costing tons of money. I don't like that Konami cut production short, and is mostly out of the video game business, but I can't blame them for getting fed up with Kojima bleeding money. Plus all the shitty story stuff, and a decent amount of the cutscenes, were shown in the earliest trailers, long before he split with Konami. It's clear a huge chunk of MGSV is missing, but the awful story was always supposed to be what it turned out to be. It's worth noting that until 4 there was a third writer on the MGS games, and after he left the writing got noticeably worse. I just don't think Kojima is actually a good enough writer to make a cohesive, good story.
I remember playing teen titans on my gamecube the whole story revolved around somebody controlling them and at the end robin goes "it was you all along sitting on the couch" 😂😂
Nier Automata, which literally makes the loading screen's act as a communication device between the pods in route C, The pause menu revealed to be the hacking interface during the final fight, deleting your data to save another player, Pod's directly acknowledging you and even the fact that the ending of the game is centered around accepting its a game?? Anyone else wanna agree?
MGSV wasn't a fourth wall break. It was literally anoth Big Boss the one you killed in MG for the NES. Kojima has a history of lying in order to avoid spoilers to the plot of his games. For example when he said it was him watching his creations in the hospital when it was really Ishmael.
imagine renting metal gear solid to play and you're given a generic dvd case and then having to call the video store to ask them what the code on the back says
Psycho Mantis reading your thoughts (memory card) and making your controller shake in the real world. Eternal Darkness and a whole bunch of awesome insanity effects. Earthbound and Mother 3 where the game addresses the player directly by their real name at a couple of points (if they entered their real names as requested earlier in the game). And I know there's a few more too. . . .
I was thinking the undertale one was gonna be here. It's when you kill mother and you did it on accident then you restarted from the last checkpoint and the flower broke the fourth wall and said you killed her then restarted it which was super creepy.
The beginning of "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" has a really eerie 4th wall break, when the narrating voice is talking about Senua, then she suddenly turns and looks at you with a disgusted look on her face... as if she can actually see and hear you. It's awesome!
I'm upset that you didn't use the psycho mantis battle intro. More mind blowing talking about how you're reckless for not saving at all vs. The codec frequency. All in all, very good video. Keep up the good work.
***** so the game that's for 10 years old got a 8 pirze of GOTY, and over 56000 poeple, 96% of them gave a positive reviews on steam store. Ironic, isn't it? So you're saying 96% of people are 10 years old, including lots of youtubers who played this game.
You were told that your face got disfigured, not that you were not BB. It was in the end that BB dropd the bombshell that you were just a decoy and not the real thing.
What about flowey messing around with your save files? Anne the fact in undertale that when you beat the genocide route there is a file that is added that can only be erased by deleting the game?
I found this fourth wall break in Sonic Adventure 2 on one of Tails recaps where he said something like "What's that?! You want to come to?! Well that's ok with me, just stay out of my way."
Almost every Metal Gear game breaks the 4th wall. Metal Gear Solid: Psycho Mantis moves your controller and reads your memory card. Metal Gear Solid 2: You crash the AI network, and the game starts bugging out. The Colonel tells you to turn your console off. Metal Gear Solid 3: If at any point in the game Snake, Eva, or Ocelot die you get a "Time Paradox" game over screen implying that the events in previous games in the series could no longer exist. Peace Walker: You find creater/ director/ writer of the Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima hiding in a trunk while looking for Zadornov. Metal Gear Solid 4: Snake uses a PS3 controller to operate his Metal Gear. Ground Zeroes: You can take on an optional VIP extraction mission, where you find out that the VIP is Hideo Kojima.
You mentioned Spec Ops The Line, but there's another one, a better one. In the ending of the game, John Konrad tells Walker that he was never meant to be there (in Dubai, where the game takes place) and that he only did it because he was wanted to feel like something he's not, a hero. This is Konrad speaking to the player, because especially in these other shooters, your protagonist is the non killable badass hero, and even when they do die, it's saving the day. This is true in COD, Battlefield, Metal Of Honor, really most FPS games with campaign. But Spec Ops is different, it acknowledges that what Walker is doing throughout the game, similar to what these other "video game heroes" do, is not hero material, but rather monster material.
i could talk about that for hours and hours. started playing back in 1999/2000 and now 16 years later, i finished the whole series... i just... this is way more than a game for me, i'm sure you understand me haha
I'm 16 right now and have beat every mgs game except for portable ops, I even played the retro metal gears 1 & 2. Big Boss is easily my favorite fictional character. I just wish Hideo Kojima didn't get screwed over by Konami they could have added a few more great titles to the series instead of "metal gear survive" probably the first shitty mgs game. I'd like to see a game where you play as The boss and the cobra unit during world war 2 and maybe another big boss game which shows more scenes behind the fight between cipher and Snake and millers private army. Or even an mg or mg2 remake.
Nice list :) I had some hopes to see the game that had the honor of breaking the 4th wall for me personally; but it was no surprise that "Omikron: The Nomad Soul" was not included.
CoD Zombies. When you run out of ammo as the Russian character on Kino Der Toten in BO1, the character instructs the player "Put down the chips, and find him some more ammo." Additionally, every single character has a programmed line to recognize that there is a scoring system when you pick up a Double Points drop, usually along the lines of "Wait- we ARE keeping score?"
Frankly, I don't understand why it's considered a 4th wall break. Boss is clearly talking to Venom. The underlying poetic narrative doesn't make it a 4th wall break. :P That said, it may even be possible that the final scene didn't really happen. Other interactions arguably "don't happen", and are products of the Venom's imagination. Paz and Ishmael, in particular. The operation Intrude title on the Cassette is a pretty huge hint that Venom is the Big Boss body double you kill during Operation Intrude, though (what a shock =p)
this vid came too soon cause Doki Doki Literature Club did it EXTREMELY well... even went so far as to messing with the game's files as you played, and even knowing if you're recording or not

MechWarrior 2, 3 and 4 come to mind...

He said 4th wall breaks that blew people's mind. It was the biggest one cause by comparison, that and Cambell in MGS2 were the most horrific and awesome things in games.

what about liquid snake when he was saying you enjoyed killing all those people no not you boss you holding the controller

He doesn’t actually mess with the tv settings tho
@@Willyluperon I know. But the point still stands that this a great and amazing fourth wall break.
Am I the only one that really enjoyed when Geralt looked at the player at the end of the Blood And Wine DLC? One of my favourite moments.
Really drove home the fact that it was the end of his wonderful journey 😭
I was sad to see it wasn't on this list, but that ending to his journey f*cked me up
It was beautiful! That scene alone made me replay the whole game!
Kodlaken yess I thought I was the only one who noticed
it was sadening but also really nice. like the story felt complete. but you do know that o'dimm looks at you at some point too right ?

dont you want to hear something new rather than hear the same thing over and over
He's a pretty clichéd pick.
I like how you have the entire MGS cutscene so you break 10 mins :^)
I like how people bitch about breaking the 10 min mark like is a big thing
Lucretzia I would have preferred having all the Monkey Island 2 dialog. The MGS5 one is great, but really only benefits those who finished the game.
people are f****** stupid
Lucretzia how dare he try to feed himself
Sliced Bread it actually is, for ads. Under 10 minutes and all you're allowed is 0 ads or one 5s ad at the beginning.
*cough cough* Psycho Mantis *cough cough*
Seriously, he mentions V's ending but not SM or MGS 2's corrupted AI codec messages.

exactly. suprised that psycho mantis from mgs and the crazy Ai Campbell from mgs2 is not on the list.
Ahem "Venom Snake"
What about MGS's Psycho Mantis battle on PS1?
yeah, leaving that out is just wrong.
That game had quite a few 4th wall breaks, like when you're on the torture device and Revolver Ocelot points at the screen saying don't use a turbo function and that he'll know if you do.
game blew my mind
Or mgs2 with colonel Campbell just a thought
Happy UA-camr don't even think about using autofire, or i'll know
0:10 I was actually standing when you said that lol
"Raiden, Turn the game console off right now""You'll ruin your eyes playing so close to the TV" - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Having Deadpool on this is kind of cheating. Because it's Deadpool.
PilzEtosis yet people claim that the Psycho Mantis one in MGS was overdone...
Pretty sure Half Life 3 will reference to its own late arrival

Valve shit their pants over the thought of making a bad ending because of what happened in Mass Effect 3.
"Finally, you learnt how to count to 3 properly."
Valve has Steam. Why even make anygames?
Goddamit I hate Valve with a passion. Carried by Steam only... meh.
So not psycho mantis? k
yeah don't know how you have 3 MG references but this isn't one
psycho mantis would be a fourth wall break. because he is interacting with your controller in turn you
when you have to put the controller in the 2player slot ?
ya that shit was creepy when i was a kid i was so scared, i was like how he know!
I also thought that would be in this.
Cameron Perez He says the game
That went over his head
Except he is referring to the courier and not the player.
Thats not... how... whats your IQ score?
@Dodo The Donkey His intelligence points are: -10
Spoilers here:
TBH the fact Venom Snake still has his blinded eye is proof enough you arent big boss
since Snake's real eye was destroyed in a torture scene in Snake Eater
BTW, the Sonic thing, you got the wrong game
he does that in Sonic CD not Sonic 1
Actually, if you watch the MGS3 cutscene closely. The bullet didn't make contact with Big Boss's eye. It was the muzzle flash that blinded him.
You make a fair point but how much of the eye would still be intact after that?
+Bass “The Bass Remix” Heller 90% just the part you see through is scorched (i know this is kind old)
carlos conde
Wouldnt that affect the look of the eye more than just the lens being fogged over?
but they are both meant to be blinded the events of snake eater happened before the phantom pain so its accurate
"In the original Sonic the Hedgehog..."
That's in Sonic CD, not the original Sonic the hedgehog.
i swear if i didnt see this comment i would have said it myself
+edward kunkemueller I was about to give up hope that no one noticed and was about to comment until I stumbled upon this.
You're all idiots trying to be contrary. The only thing unique to CD is that Sonic will LEAVE after a while and cause a game over, which wasn't mentioned at all. They did show footage of Sonic 1, the Sonic CD footage was supplementary. You're complaining about nothing.
+ChibiTails but it was mentioned....
Thankful for u to have included many MGS references... but you left maybe the most importat out: Psycho Mantis.
Ha when he said the viewer is likely sitting down or lying I was standing upright at a table!
My favorite 4th wall break is in call of duty zombies when you run out of bullets and Dempsey screams "PLAYER PUT DOWN THE CHIPS AND GIVE ME MORE AMMO!"

+Mega Lozoid You aren't stupid. My brother thought his game broke when he got poisoned on pokemon. He got a whole new game and only then realized that it was a temporary effect.
I cried because I was little and I thought I broke my brother's ps3.
The best fourth wall break is tank dempsey talking shit on us in cod zombies for not getting ammo while we ran out of ammo
"Hey player, drop the chips and get me some ammo!"
Legend of Zelda phantom hourglass
- in order to activate the stamp message, the game tells you to close your 3ds and open it again. Then your bottom screen gets stamped with the message you needed after closing it.
- nice forth wall break Nintendo.
I remember that i scratched my head all those years ago trying to think of how to stamp it
For anyone who's done the genocide route in Undertale, it could definitely take up a spot on this list
+Batz your the ultimate disappointment to humanity
+Batz hmm
thought I did genocide on first run. Thankfully, was only leaderless ending - crisis averted
I agree
or at the end of a pacifist rout when flowey literally tells the player to let frisk live a happy life.
4th wall breaking games?
**Cough Cough** V3 **Cough Cough**
"It's been a while since you saved your game"
"Don't think about using auto-fire, because I'll know"
"You don't have a stereo sound system?"
"Raiden, turn the game console off right now."
A mono tv?
Deadpool shouldn't of been here, breaking the 4th wall and deadpool go hand in hand, every fan knows this.
At 3:38 he quite literally broke the fourth wall.
Hyperdimension Neptunia: literally the entire series. The fourth wall doesn't exist in that game.
Kurokage The Scrub
That's kinda like Neptune
JAK 2 when you die and daxter says "Thats what happens when you don't put daxter in the title.''
@@kateba That is so mean!
"in the original sonic the hedgehog"
*proceeds to show footage from sonic cd and talk about a mechanic from sonic cd*
You forgot the most beloved game who breaks the fourt wall almost every time: " *The Stanley Parable* "
Sometimes I look in a random direction during an argument and say, “yeah...because none of this is real” Incase life is a simulation and I’ll seem like I’m hella self aware to the beings that may be watching
Nice
Okay that's- wow i never thought of that
🤣🤣🤣
oh i'm sorry, but where is Undertale on this list, come one guys, Photoshop Flowey literally fights you with saves, sans thinks you time travel and asgore breaks the mercy option in the menu, the amount of fourth wall breaks in that game are ridiculous, and you didn't even bother to mention it, god damn it guys, god frickin damn it.
The legend this isn't fourth wall breaks. Saving and reloading is a feature relevant in the actual game, not just exclusive to the player.
I still love the fact that Asgore is so disgusted with himself for the whole child murder thing he breaks the mercy option because he feels he doesn't deserve mercy.
0:10 Geez dude, IM STANDING
Danganronpa V3 had what I consider a fourth wall break, it was completely unexpected and really cool
Very fun video :) and I had not even heard of a handful of these so even better !
This deserves an update , including doki doki literature club
Doki doki is the ultimate fourth wall break.
Jonathan Jones I agree 100%
Mesut Bektaş So it's a shitfest that's not MGS?
Are you implying that MGS is a shitfest that *is* MGS?
What about Undertale?
uhm monika is the most boring antagonist ever
Holy shit MGS5's ending is confusing.
You!!!
+Max McClintock Also not really.
He becomes Hellboy, how is that confusing
the ending is basically, Your not Big Boss.
'Holy shit MGS5's ending is garbage' there fixed.
I really thought that Stanley Parable will be #1 o.O
I think Phantom Pain's ending was briliant.
Of course I was frustrated at first to realize this guy I had spent so much time with was not Big Boss but just a random guy, but when you look back at it, you realize this guy is not just some random guy, he actually is Venom Snake, who eventualy became Big Boss as well, an other Big Boss, or more like the other half of the real one, kinda.
And I love how the fact that there are actually 2 Big Bosses gives us a new perspective on the entire serie.
I think that was a briliant twist, and an excellent way (the only one?) to end the serie.
0:11 how did he knew!
"Much like Undertale"

Oh shit we actually got him to delete his bio. Now I kinda feel bad
Mark Ondrejech
We didn't really need that, though.
*****
I think it's mostly his fault.
+Resrn Andonton That's Capcom, not Konami.
well I honestly couldn't give a shit cuz its my favourite game since mgs3 and I'm not the only one who thinks thar
Nothing blew my mind better than Ezio saying "Desmond?" at the end of Revelations. Just added the jewel to the crown of an ending to the epic trilogy.
MGSV wasn't a fourth wall break. It was literally anoth Big Boss the one you killed in MG for the NES. Kojima has a history of lying in order to avoid spoilers to the plot of his games. For example when he said it was him watching his creations in the hospital when it was really Ishmael.
3:39 that's seven years bad luck
that's why he died
wow what a way to COMPLETELY misunderstand the ending of mgsv lol
IKR sadly there a bunch of people that missunderstood it as well
imagine renting metal gear solid to play and you're given a generic dvd case and then having to call the video store to ask them what the code on the back says
If you do genocide, reset and do pasifist chara (The girl at the end of genocide) is still in your body.
6:07 "Suddenly when you're about to win the battle" ... you mean get eaten by the Xenomorph?
Super Hot is a really good example
The beginning of "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" has a really eerie 4th wall break, when the narrating voice is talking about Senua, then she suddenly turns and looks at you with a disgusted look on her face... as if she can actually see and hear you. It's awesome!
I'm upset that you didn't use the psycho mantis battle intro. More mind blowing talking about how you're reckless for not saving at all vs. The codec frequency.
All in all, very good video. Keep up the good work.
what about undertale?
here comes the comments from the people who really didn't actually played the game..

Wasn't that whole Big Boss one explained in the beginning with the character creation menu and the plastic surgery?
You were told that your face got disfigured, not that you were not BB. It was in the end that BB dropd the bombshell that you were just a decoy and not the real thing.
+LeonGun8 sounds like an "asspull" to me
I thought that first scene was for multi-player
Cameron Shell I always though we weren't the real thing.
LeonGun8 I haven't played the game personally so IDK why the medic didn't know he wasn't BB.
How can you forget Eternal Darkness? The sanity meter is an obvious one.
fuck me i love mgs
putting it out there
No I won't fuck you but I will agree with u
MGS is one of the best franchises ever.
i could talk about that for hours and hours. started playing back in 1999/2000 and now 16 years later, i finished the whole series... i just... this is way more than a game for me, i'm sure you understand me haha
I feel like the whole MGS franchise could have it's own fourth wall break list lol
The Psychic power of Psycho Mantis is the most mind blowing 4th wall breaks in the history of gaming

Nice list :) I had some hopes to see the game that had the honor of breaking the 4th wall for me personally; but it was no surprise that "Omikron: The Nomad Soul" was not included.
CoD Zombies. When you run out of ammo as the Russian character on Kino Der Toten in BO1, the character instructs the player "Put down the chips, and find him some more ammo." Additionally, every single character has a programmed line to recognize that there is a scoring system when you pick up a Double Points drop, usually along the lines of "Wait- we ARE keeping score?"
wrong.
soooo wrong.
the big boss of MGS 5 is the big boss you kill in metal gear (not solid).
just another ''clone'', like solidus.
what..no... you missed the entire point. Have you even finished the game...
wrong
MGS 5 had a point ?
you must be joking.
Frankly, I don't understand why it's considered a 4th wall break. Boss is clearly talking to Venom. The underlying poetic narrative doesn't make it a 4th wall break. :P
That said, it may even be possible that the final scene didn't really happen. Other interactions arguably "don't happen", and are products of the Venom's imagination. Paz and Ishmael, in particular. The operation Intrude title on the Cassette is a pretty huge hint that Venom is the Big Boss body double you kill during Operation Intrude, though (what a shock =p)
in MGS 4, Big Boss reveals that it was his double.
so its gotta be venom.
this vid came too soon cause Doki Doki Literature Club did it EXTREMELY well...
even went so far as to messing with the game's files as you played, and even knowing if you're recording or not
