That was the BEST mold release footage yet! Glad you weren't hurt. I actually did a rewind and slow-mo playback myself... glad you did it, too. I got to watch it twice 😆
Lol, thanks for watching!
I agree! Not recommended to do on purpose, but funny as hell when it just sneaks up on you like that! Very glad nothing broke and no one was hurt. I hope your luck in that realm continues 'cuz I notice you have a lot of accidents without injuries.
Jim, I love the burl and the color of the resin. So glad there was no harm done in the explosion. I so look forward to our Friday art lessons. Thanks for sharing with us each week.
Thanks for watching!
Even with your warning, that startled the crap out of me. Just glad you're ok. If you ever do a compilation of "Jim vs. the bucket" mould releases, that would make a great finale.
That grain in the burl was insane! Beautiful chunky piece.
It’s all in the leaning away from it, lol. Thanks
I was impressed that the first thing you said was direct to the camera - "Are you OK?!?"
Yes, thanks, Jim. I'm fine - thanks for the warning though!! If you hadn't said to be ready for a shock, I'd have been worse - and if I'd been standing next to you the air would've been blue!! I get quite creative with my cursing when I'm scared!!
As for the bowl... It looks fantastic!! Despite bouncing around your shop it seems to have survived and remains in one incedibly beautiful piece!! Thanks for sharing this piece of art (& making me jump out of my skin!!!)
Lol! Thank you very much!
That bowl is probably going to last a couple hundred years with how chunky it is. I love the burl pieces that have a lot of character to them like that.
Thanks for watching
Speaking of staying safe….HOLY EXPLODING PRESSURE POT JIM! I’m sure the real sound was much more expansive than what you shared. So glad you are safe, not to mention all your equipment and shop!
It was an exciting day, lol. Thanks
Seeing how high that heavy piece was blown really shows the power of compressed air. So glad you and all of your expensive stuff is safe and uninjured. And I’m fine, thanks for asking. 😂
That's one robust bowl! Who doesn't love Maple burl?
Wouldn’t want to get hit by it, lol. Thanks
One man's mistake is another man's design. This bowl still looks great.
Thanks so much!
Oh wow! Cannon action! I'm glad it didn't damage your pressure pot. It's a beautiful piece! Love the Torquiose.
Me too, thanks!
Woo-Hoo!....Now you're the king of 'pop'! Have to say it is such a joy to watch you at work. Taking us from start to finish is so entertaining and enlightening. Congrats on creating another beautiful piece.
Wow, thank you!
This comment is gold!
[OP, not this reply, lol]
I am surprised you couldn’t hear my husband and I yelling warnings at the tv ahead of the ‘pop’ 😂 As Aussies, we also loved seeing the Australia Post box in part of your footage of the ‘pop’ aftermath.
Absolutely love this piece Jim!! We won’t be surprised if you get commissions to do more like this, because this one is so stunning.
I like getting the Aussie boxes, they usually contain things I’ve never seen before, lol. Thanks for watching!
Watched with my wife...wound it back three times to see the burl come popping out of the pressure pot! Beautiful bowl...you love those blues!!!
Thanks for watching
I love that you do voiceovers. It's one of the reasons I watch your channel. It's wonderful listening to the artist/craftsperson explain their process.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks
I laughed out loud when you picked up the camera and said "are you okay?" 😂 I like a chunky bowl but I find that around here other turners are focused on how thin you can get a project. I tend to do my own thing but I'm glad to see someone else appreciate the thick stuff.
Totally, thanks!
I did the same thing! That “Are you ok?” cracked me up!
Ah, back to the good old days when part of the fun in watching your videos was watching you fight to get the bowl blank out. Good job, both in extricating the blank and with the finished bowl. 😆
Glad you enjoyed it, lol.
That pressure pot pop was crazy 😮😅. Loved this project. Heirloom piece for sure. ❤
Thank you! 😊
Like the wide-rim and it’s unique island-like detail. No longer surprised by the uniqueness of your work. I enjoy watching an artist at work ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome, thank you!
That bowl is beautiful!WOW! I could stare at that bowl for hours and most likely not see it all. I love it. The fact that it is a commission piece is cool because the owner can watch this burl come to life.
Your work is always amazing. Thank you for sharing your art with us. ❤
Thank you so much!
I was very happy that no injuries or damage happened when the explosion occurred. Resin colour and burl really work well together. Your client is going to be very happy with it. Looking forward to next weeks squirrel surprise. Cheers
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful piece! And yes, I definitely prefer a voice over for the videos. And I liked the wall hanging last week.
Awesome, thank you!
I'm new to your channel, but everything I've seen has so much character! Not a dull piece in the lot. 💖
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!
Jim is one of the best! I look forward to his videos every time. Enjoy!
should go back and watch all his other videos, that is what I did when I discovered this channel. Is all worth seeing.
@@mindcraftyD13 Definitely agree, they're all worth watching.
Agree! There isn’t a dud in the bunch! His art is so beautiful, and getting to hear his creative process is both informative and interesting. Binge watch them all!!
I watched this because of the title - Beefy Maple Burl Bowl. That's just awesome. 😉
Thanks for that!
So glad no harm came to you first, then the project and shop. Wow!! Ka-pow!! 😲
Yes, compression and expansion with temps ... thing to remember foremost. 👍
That piece of burl was absolutely beautiful with all the busyness in the wood. It's always enjoyable to see the wood come to life with the first coat of finish. The wood grain in burl on outside looked like mountains with streams coming down. The swirls in the resin was spectacular, vapors rising off mountains. Resin color and wood was well matched. Thanks for sharing your artistry and be careful.
Careful is my middle name, lol. Thanks for watching!
Hi Jim. I absolutely love that bowl: the burl and resin combination is perfect, as is the craftsmanship. I understand people who prefer practical to artistic. When I owned a motorcycle I promised myself that it wouldn’t be an ornament and used it to commute up to 9,000 miles per year, but, on the odd occasion when I just ‘went for a ride’ it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. As you say, we are all different. Keep doing what you do and you are entitled to let your artistic side come out occasionally 🌞
Thanks Ray!
The blue pearl ripples in the resin really compliments the grain of the burl. Gorgeous work of art as always.
Thank you very much!
Lots of lessons learned on this one. All a part of the journey. ☺️
So true, thanks
I was air testing a copper pipe installation at 100 psi, and there was a ½ cap on a stub out; shot off like a bullet and flattened itself like a penny on the concrete wall before I even hit 100. I looked to my master plumber and he just had the look of; whoops!
Needless to say, I never stand in front of caps, especially if I didn't solder them.
Stunning finish as usually, awesome job.
Thank you Jim
As a mechanic in the army I seen a number of accidents with compressed air and large truck tires too. Thanks
Absolutely gorgeous Jim 😍 So enjoy watching you turn. Take care and keep warm.
Thank you, I will!
Love your. Work. I understand that you want commitments from your subscribers. But it is your chanel ! Turn what you love. Your show with everything you turn and cast that you live what you do. Thanks for.being a mentor to hundreds of us learning turners. You are appreciated by us. Thanks Bill McCarty.
Just looking for comments just like you said. Thanks for watching
Designer epoxy. Before you gave the weight of the bowl, I mentioned to my wife....I bet that one is heavy. I bet the new owner will love it.
Hope so, thanks!
Definitely your most “ explosive “ video to date! The outside reminded me of a mountain range against a clear blue sky!
Agreed, thanks!
Jim: I figured that it was a mortar round going off the other day. I should have known it was you and the pressure pot. I really like the bowl. The owner picked a nice burl and with the colour resin it came out nice. The grain stands out nicely. It is going to be a cherished item for years to come. Good advice on the air danger. Take care and stay safe.
Fire for effect, lol. Thanks for watching!
It's not only functional, it's absolutely beautiful as well! I love it, and I'm sure the recipient will love it as well.
Thanks so much! 😊
Oh wow! Even with your warning I was startled when that thing popped! It turned out beautifully, love this one.
Thank you so much!
Nothin’ like the warmup of lifting your pressure pot and full piece to get you ready for the task of removing it. Wow buddy glad you were on your toes for that one. ~Smile oN
You got that right! Thanks
I'm guessing fresh shorts were needed after that blank popped out of the pressure pot. Glad to hear no woodturners were injured in the making of this video. I too love the wide rim on larger bowls. It'd a beautiful piece! Thanks again for all the turning tips!
Thanks for watching!
Well, you've outdone yourself on the casting removal! 😉😀 Thankfully you didn't get hurt.
Beautiful bowl! Very well done!
Thank you very much!
Well I really loved the wall hanging!! That is a beautiful beast! And of course we love Designer Epoxy
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks like a desert mountain scene with a beautiful blue sky around the outside love it
Totally, thanks!
People are just wrong 😂, I LOVE the butternut wallhanging from last week!! It would make a cool clock or a beautiful side table, but it also makes an amazing decorative wallhanging!! If I had any money, I would make you an offer (I promise, no horse heads).
I love watching your videos! I don’t know that I’ll ever have an opportunity to turn, but I have learned a lot and I just love listening to you. And the stuff you make! Just wow!! I will own one someday - so beautiful!! I hope you keep the format of your videos exactly as they are.
The videos will remain the same, thanks for watching!
Another beautiful bowl by Jim. Designer epoxy is my favourite of all the others I've tried. Well done Jim.
Good to hear! Thanks
The resin color really allows the details in the wood to shine.
Thanks for watching
That came out beautifully, hope the owner is pleased with it. Glad you were not injured, and nothing was broken when it came out of the pot.
Thanks for watching
The blue is gorgeous. When I saw the blank leave the pot, my first thought was it looked like an ejection seat firing in a jet fighter.
I would tend to agree, lol. Thanks!
Beautiful character in the burl, and the turquoise is a lovely color. But most importantly, I think you've cracked top three of all time when it comes releasing a casting.
Thank you! Cheers!
This is right now, my favorite of your work. Thanks for the videos, and your continued transparency. So informative and helpful.
You are so welcome!
Unbelievable workmanship with a block of wood to turn out a unique work of art. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much! It’s so tough it survived the blast, lol.
That blue is gorgeous. Little thicker rim than I like, but absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks 😊
That was quite an extraction. Had me worried for a minute or two! Great piece Jim!
You and me both! Lol. Thanks
The blues always come out looking so good.
Thanks
It really does look like an island in an ocean. What fantastic colours, the owner is a lucky person!
Thanks 😊
That wood is insane. Busy, but also beautiful.
It really is! Thanks
WOW! What a beautiful piece!!! That turned out amazing! Great piece, Jim!!
Thank you very much AJ!
Designer epoxy......that scared me the second and third time we watched it🤣 Love your work
Lol, thanks for watching!
I do like the new color. I haven’t been a fan of thick bowl but have been trying some lately and find I am liking them more. There are times when it is necessary and this turning is one of them. Love the finished product. Thanks for sharing.
Designer Epoxy
Thanks for watching!
This a beautiful bowl! So glad nobody was hurt and the bowl was not damaged. Definitely a what not to do with air.
Thanks for watching
Some turners work hard and keep the bark for the nature of it.
Some get rid of it and still do amazing things.
All in the eye of the artist 😊
With the bark removed it’s easier to look after. Thanks!
Just. WOW! I think this is my favourite piece I've seen of yours! It's tying with the peacock 3.0 at least, but the burl and the shape are spectacular!
This is probably my favourite video so far too! I am always fascinated by your commentary and the various issues you face while creating, I love how you walk us through how you overcome your issues and the lessons you learn. But this video "blew" it out of the water! I am relieved you weren't hurt and nothing was broken! It was interesting learning a bit more about using compressed air though, thank you for all of the interesting info and detailing the process you went through 💜
Thanks for watching!
I couldn’t agree more. You could just edit out your “Well that didn’t go as planned” moments, but allowing us to learn with you, and to watch your creative process keeps me coming back. (Well that and your pieces are GORGEOUS!! I WILL own one someday.) Thank you for taking us along on your creative journeys!!
Well that was a bang up video! Lovely bowl. I like beefy turnings so it is right up my alley. The burl is amazing and I really like the colour of the resin. You should put a sign on the shop door that says beware of flying objects.
Designer epoxy.
Good idea, lol. Thanks
The turquoise blue is great. Glad it didn't hit you when it came loose. Also, I'm one of the ones that likes the voice overs- keep it up.😄
Sure will. Thanks
Holy cow still can’t get over how that blew out of the pressure pot. Beautiful piece I love the big beefy bowls.
Yup, ka bang! Thanks
Designer Epoxy and Sprague wood turning for the win! Thank you!
Thank you! Cheers!
Another beautiful bowl Jim. Personally, I like the thicker, beefier turnings. The resin color really makes this bowl pop.
Thank you very much!
I LOVE that ring of color shift on the resin hole on the bottom inside of the bowl.
Me too, thanks!
Not going to knock that Designer Epoxy bowl over and break it! Great job.
Nope, she’s built like a tank, lol. Thanks
the first thing I do when I get my pressure pot will be a beefy casting like this one -- it feels like an heirloom. as always, my eyes just sink right into your color mixes and go on vacation for a minute. dreamy.
Me too, lol. Thanks
Thank god you were out of the way when that piece went flying. Great looking burl!
You and me both! Thanks
Yikes! That was undoubtedly startling! But that bowl is totally awesome! Fantastic job, Jim! 💜
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks
Designer Epoxy.... can't wait for your squirrel moment! Beautiful work as always.
Thank you! Cheers!
Another amazing piece which always inspires me. The wall hanging was amazing but you cant please all the people all of the time.
Very true, thanks!
OMG beautiful! I love it! The burl, the resine... everything! Another great project! Have a great week!
Thank you! You too!
Designer Epoxy I think this is one of my favourites of all the bowls you have done! I love the voiceovers!
Thank you so much!
Glad you're okay ... and thank you for the slo-mo of your version of an air cannon ... we all think the final result is nice
Thank you very much!
Awesome bowel Jim, the explosion was pretty cool as well. Glad no one was hurt. I really loved how the turquoise looked.
Thank you very much!
Designer Epoxy!
That turning just gave me more confidence for taking thicker projects off the lathe, if they look good already. Thanks, my friend.
Go for it! Thanks!
The bowl has good proportions. The thickness "fits" the size of the bowl. Blue is my favorite color!
Thanks for watching!
This bowl is gorgeous! I’ve always liked burled wood pieces.
Don’t we all, lol. Thanks
I started wincing as soon as you drilled a hole down the side to put compressed air in .... just asking to be injured ... I turned the sound off and waited for the inevitable to happen, which it did!! If you ever need to do anything like this then use hydraulic pressure (water from a pressure washer for example), it doesn't expand explosively like air does!!
Apart from the above, now that's what you call a bowl .... absolutely stunning piece 👍
Thanks for watching
I love the wide rim on this one - what a beautiful piece. Glad you survived the explosion.
Thanks!
Love the new color. What a beautiful piece of burl.
Thank you very much!
Quite the lively start to a video! 💣 So glad nothing was damaged. It came out beautifully! I like the sturdiness of it's thickness. 🥰
Thanks so much! 😊
That is a beautiful beefy bowl! That resin color is wow! The lagoona turquoise color is really near with the greenish blue swirls.
Thanks so much!
What an amazingly beautiful bowl! I super really love the thickness. I love your bowl blanks after the very first turning before they are dried out because of their massive thickness! Also, I couldn't help but chuckle when this came shooting out of the pressure pot!!! So funny! Anyway, thanks for your weekly presentations, I really look forward to them. Very best.
Thanks for watching!
It's one beautiful bowl. The burl grain is absolutely mind blowing
Totally, thanks!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bowl!! I had to chuckle though, when you mentioned those bits in the rim looking like islands. I had that exact same thought about 1.5 minutes you said it, lol.
Jim, this bowl was a piece of art!
As for the wall hanging-I LOVED it too! You cant please everybody, only please yourself! Being an artist is bringing your ideas to being an object!
Thank you very much!
I love the color of the burl with the resin color. It's beautiful, and the figuring in the wood is spectacular 😍
Thank you so much!
I really love heavy turnings. Very thin and fine turnings are beautiful as well but something like this commands attention. Well done
Thank you very much!
Stunningly beautiful---the patterned burl and the turquoise blue are exquisite. Made me gasp at the end.
Thank you very much!
Ha! That was awesome.
Ever since I started buffing my pieces between coats, it has made a huge difference in the final product.
Good stuff! Thanks
Another great video and another beautiful bowl! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks again!
I love the color of the bowl and burl..😊 Glad you not injured during the release!❤😊
Thanks 😊
Yeah.... I jumped!! Holy H**l!!
🤣😂🤣
I love how it turned out, burl is a favorite.
Lol, thanks!
Hey Jim. Your client should be jumping up and down. This piece will look lovely in the center of the dining room table with some dry potpourri. The blue looks so nice and brings out le chatoyance beautifully.
Thank you very much!
Nice Designer Epoxy
casting on the beefy maple burl bowl. Awesome creation
I also love your voiceovers so much important information.
I learn from every video.
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
I agree I like the voice over
Pretty good looking burl with the designer epoxy holding it together!
Thanks 👍
I don’t think I would want something so thick, but leaving that thickness allowed the “islands” so good call. Beautiful as alway. As to the wall hanging: what you do is art. Art’s function is to be appreciated, enjoyed, pondered. I would bet many of your bowls are treated such.
Thank you so much!
It's beautiful Jim, love the explosion way to start the video. Super glad you didn't get hurt most importantly
Thank you very much!
That mold release was pretty funny . We are so glad you didn't get hurt . As for the bowl I just cannot decide which ones are my favorites . This one is for sure in the top 10 . Great job Jim and thanks for sharing . I am really learning of what not to do . lol .
Good call! Lol. Thanks
All I can say is Wow!! Love it Jim. Designer Epoxy.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great turning. Especially like your voice overs. Good teaching moment on releasing out of the pressure pot.
Thank you very much!
