Meta is investing money like crazy here because they want to break free from the restrictions that android and iOS impose on apps, they want to own the platform and use it for doing their marketing stuff. And at the same time Meta appears to be the only big tech company doing real innovation these days
Seems to me like Meta got a lot of inspiration from Vision Pro. The Wristband registering finger tip clicking, the eye tracking oriented UI. In fact it’s obvious Apple will do all that stuff with its existing hardware products. Namely iPhone and Apple watch.
@@kyleh6984 they have been working on the neural wristband for years, this is a CTRL-Labs technology, and Meta/Facebook bought the company in 2019. If anything, I think Apple is the one taking inspiration from Meta.
@@kyleh6984 WRONG lol, they had been leaking info about this years before vision pro. And they started with eye tracking in quest pro which was too expensive it failed. And handtracking since Meta Quest 2
I think it is interesting. Nice to see their prototype and hear their ideas and reasoning. I agree with him that this can potentially be much better than a smartphone. Because it can see what you see. One out of many examples: imagine getting directions in these - on top of what you actually see - this is clearly better than looking away from the world to a screen that is showing an abstract representation of the world. This is just one example. But it needs to be nice to wear, meaning not heavy and with really clear displays so it does not feel like your eyesight is worse with these on.
I like the new Zuck, more relaxed and tech oriented, but man some answers were harsh ... "I think some content creators overestimate the value of their content" is poorly worded. I get he was aiming at big editors trying to pressure him into retrieving, but the remark alone *will* be taken out of context and farmed to hell. For sure. Other than that, I absolutely loved the format. And the fact that Meta are casually dropping the biggest LLM models version after version for free, all while working on VR/AR.
Gotta respect the commitment, from VR, to AR, and AI - Zuckerberg continues with his vision with unwavering belief. Others like Google, Samsung, Microsoft seem to just go in and out, as a result Meta is ahead and rightfully so.
Google is always a joke in hardware department and Microsoft is getting more clueless when it comes to their hardware release which is starting to be more obsolete as it goes.
Zuckerberg always gets a bad rap but I just don’t believe all the hate is justified. He’s definitely a clear thinker with determination and vision. And above all he seems to really put his money where his mouth is.

Great job with the interview, Alex. Meaningful, smart questions, refreshing! We are getting to a point where Meta is the company delivering tech innovation. How strange is that? This says allot about Zuckerberg. Go Zuck!
The next significant step in technology development will probably be when a neural network can create a virtual world based on user preferences. For example, if a user wants to fly on a dragon, they just need to say so
I love how Zuck acknowledges the limitations, unlike other tech leaders who announce that their products are going to spark a transition. Contrary to popular beliefs I actually think he is pretty transparent with how he and his company operate. Yeah, sometimes unethical, but they never did stuff in the dark. I like how he states that AR/VR is not a replacement to real life, they are more like an extension.
So its not enough that people are staring at their phones everywhere where they go,they now need to have their devices glued to their eyeballs. Yeah no thanks. I dont carry my phone anywhere. I invest real effort into enjoying REAL LIFE and REAL WORLD. There is so much wonder out there for everyone to see and experience to waste your life on a stupid device that you have little to no benefit.
Meta should make its own smartphone (or partner with some brand) to use as the main processor until the technology becomes small and powerful enough; i.e. if you can play games via streaming, you could also stream an operating system that is less than a meter away from you? I bet the future will not be limited by hardware; companies will become streaming powerhouses that stream everything to a small receiver device, the last step being to stream everything to a neuralink-type receiver that generates interfaces on our retina and is controlled by the mind.
Got rid of Meta a long time ago from my life. Very happy with that decision. I would rather have a device I can put away than an object on my face that separates me from others.
i think the ease of movement across the country is primarily to blame for a lot of it. it's just too easy to pick up and move. mark seems like a thoughtful dude.
It’s crazy how you can learn to create all the s*** he’s talking about in this interview for free(basically) in some states. I wish more of the younger generation took advantage of that 😔.
This is going to be huge. AR has the potential to impact how we interface with the internet, and honestly, how we live. Imagine being about to look at an animal or object and have it identified by AI. Wildddd. Implications for this are huge and it isn’t far away. Cool stuff
If I was cynical, I'd think Meta is growing Threads to train AI on discussion text data offering from conversations with images and video. Meta knows in social media its images and video that won over text only. But you possible get different types of data with a more discussion orientated service...
I stand with Drippy Mark and his vision for the future. The Zuck acquisition strat has worked because he relentlessly pursues things all the way to the bottom line until it doesn’t work.
I have no idea why people believe that AR is superior to VR and somehow it’s the “end goal”. Even here AR needs to be demoed in a dark coloured room, so that you can see the displayed things… In a white room, or outside you will not see ANYTHING. For contrast and consuming content you will need true black. And if you then use sunglasses as a base or by some magic darken the display pixel-by-pixel, then whats the point anymore? VR is much more versatile, it can enhance contrast of the image, recolour the world for a colourblind person, could give you night vision or allow you to zoom into a part of the outside world. Most of the time people do not have perfect vision or perfect light conditions in reality…
