This would make driving much safer, assuming that the visuals are predictable and not intrusive. Any time you need to take your eyes off the road to look at your GPS or dash is a significant increase in risk. It'll be cool if the company can figure it out for better accuracy. It reminds me of the Myo armband which also used electrical signals from your body, but that company eventually stopped iterating their armband input device.
AR uses aside, imagine how cool that would be if they used these instead of controllers in the next Meta Quest. If you strapped a few of these to your legs and ankles as well, you could have accurate full-body tracking with no need for IR base stations.
It's technically a better solution because technology is no longer looking down or at specific things it's looking at everything around you which includes the people around you which is better tbh.
This is a huge leap for technology! I can’t believe we’re getting closer to interacting with the virtual world right in front of our eyes without needing a phone or computer. Excited to see the day when we can buy official AR glasses
I like Meta’s approach to the making of the AR glasses and to be completely honest I would buy the Meta AR glasses but there some things they need: 1. Tinted mode 2. 5-hour battery life 3. Colors on wristband to make it more fashionable for people that don’t like a fury white wristband on them 4. Google browser 5. A working texting app
Meta's setup is way more practical, the wristband could be a watch and the "puck" could be integrated into a phone. The near future is going to be awesome.

It's also their biggest undoing, Meta can't actually make a smartphone so by using a separate compute device they're automatically handing the advantage to phonemakers
@@guncolony Why can't they? Meta is definitely big enough that they could make their own phone. Nothing did it and they did not have the resources of Meta lol

Not shipping it because it's not good enough to be a consumer product. It's supposed to be close enough to a product that Meta employees can use and build for it. When they actually do have a product ready, they will have already built a ton of software for it, avoiding the problem Apple had where they launched their headset and it literally couldn't do anything.
I don't get why all tech isn't made this way??? I just assumed, and then we got the planned obsolescence bs fucking is over instead. It's better for well thinking stakeholders as well, so a win-win
The problem with that is when you don't have a deliverable product anytime soon. You can stir up all the hype you want, but if no one can actually buy one for years to come, they'll forget about it. It seems like this is more of a PR move to show what Meta is working on.

This is cool, I was one of the (presumably many) people meta got wrist-signal data from to help develop this! In 2021, I did a short study survey online with the subject wrist-wearable device, then they had me come to a building in manhattan (with my wrist shaved!) where they stuck a thing on my wrist hooked up with many wires to a computer. They had me do various motions like pinching fingers together and picking up items. And I got a little bit of money out of it, so that was nice :) Fun to see what that resulted in.
Me too!!! I was also selected to participate in that focus study in Manhattan for Meta that tracked my wrist-signal data. I had a lot of fun in the session and have been waiting to see a wearable tech from Meta ever since 😊
18:57 as someone with a massive TBI and a minor stroke (thank you, Marine Corps), I would LOVE if smart AR glasses got to the point of being able to wear an AI Assistant on my face. I have sticky notes, and whiteboards all over my house...not to mention the constant texting myself and setting alarms for things. It would be a lifesaver if I had an AI to remind me of things, or draw attention to things I need to notice. It looks like we're getting there, and obviously these companies need to market this to the masses and not just the medical industry. I can't wait to see what these companies bring out next. Thank you for covering this.
I say, the only thing limiting AR is the battery. If they could pump more power out of the battery. they could do more things, with smaller components. naming XAI740K was correct! Thanks for the headsup

This is far more intriguing to me than the vision pro was because this is what the vision pro was pretending to be. Being able to have things like labels pop up and track in real life or a real life ctrl+f that can highlight things in your vision, or overlayed arrows on the road for gps are the types of things I really want to see. I also think the wrist strap thing is really neat. I could see that eventually adding a smartwatch on top which would allow it to be useful on it's own without the glasses as well.
I still think VR like the Quest 3 is better. Namely because it's the only product that is actually affordable, but also has excellent graphical fidelity, much higher FOV, full 3D responsive controllers (viable for playing complicated/advanced games, making artwork, or potentially even performing surgeries or such; it would be more of a hassle or even impossible to do on Orion or Vision Pro.
@@MsHojat Yeah but AR glasses are a different use case, they are meant to be taken outside and used there. You won't walk outside with huge headsets on.
These are totally different products, though. These AR glasses don't provide immersion (like the Vision Pro does) because they don't cover your entire FoV and can't be closed off. Also, the wrist strap is a major bummer. Apple's vision of requiring no external gadgets to control the device appeals more to me. Just like you needed a stylus before the iPhone, wrist straps will (hopefully) be deprecated.
As for dream use cases, I'd love all kinds of sports related ones, like for golf and disc golf, showcasing all kinds of overlays for hazards and such, maybe even tracking the ball/disc with the cameras, perhaps even drawing the path in virtual air, so that you can figure out where an errant shot went, etc...

sicker would be coding in 3d i've seen some basic attempts to bring coding to vr, but nothing that truly brings and distills the absolute amount of information that a 3d view of source code could provide. the productivity savings that ai brings, that could be easily compounded by an even bigger time savings with some 3d representation of code built on top of deep code analysis. edit: btw i've done years of software dev, including at one of the biggest tech companies in the world and on a product that, if it went down globally, would cost the world billions per hour and possibly countless lives as well. about the only thing we couldn't be used for is the most safety-critical systems like 911, but we were used by many isps and even major broadcasters for mission-critical signaling.

The Meta glasses cost like $25,000 each in large part because of the waveguide material that enabled them to hit 70 degree FOV. Not too many people down to spend $25k on these lol even if Meta wanted to sell them
many of the current not-yet-full-ar glasses companies already do this. it's pretty common for them to offer inserts and/or prescription lens size matching, to the point it's almost industry standard.

dude yes, if your thoughts could just send the electrical impulses regardless of if you have the limbs to make those movements, THAT would be next level.
I imagine translating those signals to a motor driven hand prosthesis. The data collected from willing users without hand disabilities would be invaluable.
That has been used in limb replacements for like 2 decades now... it's not new technology... it's just a new use for already existing technology.... the question is... is it a novelty that gets boring and stupid after 5 minutes... or is it actually better than using a smartphone... my money is on smartphones... but maybe atleast it leads to some more investment into technology that helps amputees in the long run
Meta has the advantage of having the Quest OS that is going to run on the glasses because the external puck has way more power than the spectacles. So, Meta does not need developer kits right now because the Quest ecosystem is running pretty well, and there are many AR developers. tf is XAI740K ? that is all over somehow
Not sure if you are a bot but please remove your last question if you aren't. Bots are trying to get people to Google random strings of characters to get them to go to scam websites
P.S. Big thing to note here is that Meta already has "dev kits" out in the wild for a few years now. The Quest lineup of headsets with passthrough are doing most of what Orion does. From a dev perspective, there is really very little difference. And there's already a rich software lineup to prove that.
I think people need to start realizing that pretty much anything screen/tech related we do without context, looks goofy-- Like, you don't look cool Sitting down playing Xbox and staring at a box, and you don't look cool looking at your phone into nothing-- Nothing looks THAT cool without context, and that's why imo we really shouldn't worry about "Awh we look goofy using these!" So much all the time-- It's just funny to me that this is even still a worry.
Yeah the Orions are the most socially acceptable looking AR glasses we've seen so far. Honestly if you aren't looking directly at a person wearing them, you be luck to notice at all. Meta has already claimed a plan for getting this prototypes' frames upto %50 thinner, making them even more appealing.
Some other use cases: 1. you are shopping in supermart, you see ingredients of something you think can be interesting. But your glasses can tell that there is some ingredient there that you are allergic to! 2. cycling in a new area - the speakers speak the directions to you, and glasses overlay on the road after you have been alerted of the overlay coming there. 3. Digitize the notes you take on a notebook, as the glasses can directly take a picture. 4. You generate some art using AI, you can see what it looks like on your wall 5. Digitally trying our clothes and furniture placement in your home.
Imagine: lightweight glasses, your phone as the computing source, and a sleek smartwatch or ring for controls. This setup could make AR finally feel natural and wearable every day! 👓📱💍 Future's looking bright!

With a simple command, you say, "Pawn to e4," and the piece moves seamlessly across an AR chessboard that appears before you. Your friend follows with, "Pawn to e5," his piece responding instantly. Each move is just a quiet word, each command instantly carried out, as if the game were an extension of your thoughts. The future of chess, right there in the open air, with nothing but your voices to bring it to life. I mean it would be so cool honestly i cant wait for meta or snap or whoever to perfect this kind of technology

I like Meta’s approach to the making of the AR glasses and to be completely honest I would buy the Meta AR glasses but there some things they need:
1. Tinted mode
2. 5-hour battery life
3. Colors on wristband to make it more fashionable for people that don’t like a fury white wristband on them
4. Google browser
5. A working texting app
Meta's setup is way more practical, the wristband could be a watch and the "puck" could be integrated into a phone. The near future is going to be awesome.

yup yup, they want yearn for demands, before committing more resources

Interesting

Incredible Apple missed the boat on this. How could they not see this is where it was going?
I still think VR like the Quest 3 is better. Namely because it's the only product that is actually affordable, but also has excellent graphical fidelity, much higher FOV, full 3D responsive controllers (viable for playing complicated/advanced games, making artwork, or potentially even performing surgeries or such; it would be more of a hassle or even impossible to do on Orion or Vision Pro.

cant wait for this to become commercial , hope I live to see the day
Imagine: lightweight glasses, your phone as the computing source, and a sleek smartwatch or ring for controls. This setup could make AR finally feel natural and wearable every day! 👓📱💍 Future's looking bright!
Just imagine using a gun or a sword in a VR game with just your hands and a wristband, that'd be super immersive. with XAI740K arriving the biggest is yet to come, you should know that!
XAI740K is some crypto bot scam thing, for anyone reading the comments
Imagine, ten years from now, you and a friend sit in the park, wearing glasses that look just like any other.

@19:18 Going even further, you don’t need to look out the window. You can just look down at the floor and see the stuff on the ground or up to see the stars labelled.
7:33 Nintendo 3DS AR cards have returned!

What a great time to be alive
I’ve never been into AR glasses tech but this wrist band is definitely amazing. It could be a universal controller, midi controller and used many other ways.
I was watching this on tv not logged in but after it ended mkb deserved a like. Keep up the great work
we've arrived at jc dentons point in time. ''My vision is augmented''
That Meta wristband is such a cool input idea. The potential of that is by far the coolest tech shown here imo.
