Davinci Resolve was my first editing software and been using it for like 10 months, I caught on fast and is very powerful. If you never done editing, don't be intimidated by it's power.

I am using Camtasia. It is straightforward and has a very simple interface. I only do 1080p basic videos. I don't have to memorize 1000 commands to get something useful out. I am 71 years young, and just don't have the mental bandwidth for the Da Vinci and Adobe products. Also, changing every year would just about do me in. Doing good video is very difficult, very complex with video/audio/composition/light issues and challenges. I don't need a complex video editor to top all of that. Thanks.

    • @PrimalVideo

I also love Camtasia's powerful simplicity. My teenage son started a YT channel, and I suggested he use Camtasia since it's extremely intuitive and completely sufficient for his needs.
I prefer Filmora for my channel since it offers more color and audio adjustments. To each his own. :)

So well said. I could not agree more. The whole process from figuring out settings on the gopro to the shot choice, the script, the organizing the footage, the editing, etc...Very complicated. Sometimes...less is more!

Like others, I use Vegas Pro. Years ago I moved from audio tape editing studio, to DAW. The best was Sony Acid Pro.
I use another DAW now, but,
Moving ahead to digital video editing, I started using Windows Movie Maker many years ago. Pre Windows Vista.
I soon discovered the limitations of that, so I went with Sony Movie Studio Platinum. It's interface was almost identical with Acid Pro.
So, it just made sense, and was easy to get into.
Since then, I've upgraded to (now) Magix Vegas Pro.
Like many Vegas Pro users, we find it very simply laid out. Familiar feel. And yet as deep as you can get.
Jumping ship now, would be like learning a new language.
The output is the Art that is on display. Not the video editing software you use to get there.

      @adrianvanleeuwen 2 роки тому

Not sure why a lot of video reviewers don't bother to mention Vegas Pro for Windows, as I have used it for 10 years (and I have tried Final Cut and Premiere). Vegas Pro has most of the advanced features of these programs and you can buy it as a one time license like Final Cut. Vegas also offers monthly subscription if you want access to its video stock library. Premiere and Final Cut may be more popular, but for Pro users, I think Vegas Pro ranks third in popularity for a full featured video editor (in the same league as Premiere and Final Cut) at a reasonable one time price. The program has been updated many times now in version 19, and easy to learn. They offer yearly upgrades, but don't need upgrades often as it is already robust.

I’ve used FCP, FCP X, Davinci, Filmora, and now the Adobe CS. I like the Adobe Suite for functionality and ease of use. I am most familiar with Final Cut but it isn’t for windows and my new setup went from MacBook Pro to a high end gaming and editing PC. I’d say your recommendations are spot on. What you use is what is most intuitive for your skill level with the option of adding more pro features in the future as you grow.

I've been using so many Vegas for many years, and I find it very intuitive and easy to use. It is a little buggy, but aside from crashes which you can easily recover from, it's great software and rendering is pretty fast. But it integrates so well with all the special effects, cropping, and many other things. I use it for most of my work. Why don't you like it?

Difficult to compare the paid options as there's subscription based (Adobe, filmora), one time payment (Resolve studio), pay in pieces (hitfilm) and completely free (Resolve, VSDC, and other completely free software). Then there's differences what features are included. Resolve has colour, VFX and audio built in. Adobe does not, it's extra on top of the plain video editor. So would Resolve be 2nd when after 2 years you have paid at least 6 times more using Adobe and continue to do that.
Also I'm using Resolve so I'm probably biased, but I did not find Resolve difficult or un-intuitive to use, after using Powerdirector and Vegas. It's more about what you have learned already or if you are a beginner or pro/semi pro seasoned user. Also the easiest to get into speed using a software, isn't necessarily the best option. If you need to use complex features, you need to learn them. If your program does not have them or you grow out of them quickly that is learning wasted when if you have to use something else in the end anyway.

Hitfilm Express user here. Finding the timeline interface buggy, slow and lacking in basic functionality such as being able to splice clips or nudge them forwards / backwards using the keyboard. Some nice controls, effects and features though. Not sure if my i7 laptop with onboard graphics is the issue, but the preview window is pretty unusable once a few tracks/effects are applied. Might give DaVinci Resolve a shot, and possibly it looks like a laptop upgrade is required.

Justin - you hit the nail on the head for all of us choosing a software in 2021: choose what works best for your style.
I had been trialing Filmora X, but ended up going back to Filmora Pro because for my way of working, and for the type of videos I present, it is actually the more enjoyable to use. When I started using X I found I just hated doing editing work at all, and that was simply unsustainable. Enjoying both the end product, and the process of making a video each time, are arguably the most important factors for any of us doing this more than just once.
Filmora Pro just makes it fun, without being too over the top with features and 'needy' in the workflow. The interface is slick, easy to figure out, and likes lower spec computers so you won't get freezing on even 5 year old hardware. It has ended up being my go-to solution (after trialing, and eventually ditching, the even lower specced MOVAVI).
Great video as usual - cheers.

so i bought filmora pro instead of filmora. i'm starting to think i should have went with filmora X. i didn't realize they were 2 totally different products. are all of your filmora comments more centered around filmora X vs pro?
    thank you

Hi Justin, thanks a lot for your expertise.
I'm currently using Vegas Pro 14. It's done the job for years but I want something a bit more modern. I want something that'll let me do clean, modern subtitle animations suitable for UA-cam in 2021 (Vegas text on screen is pretty dated). And modern animations and effects like screen wipes. With support for vst audio plugins ideally, like Vegas. Will Davinci do this for me? Or is there a better option? I'm on PC.

    • @UKHeritageRailways
      @UKHeritageRailways 3 роки тому

Yes is the answer. You can do animations in the Fusion page of Resolve and it happily works with third party VST 2 plug-ins, though not VST3 as yet. There are plenty of tutorials on UA-cam.

Davinci Resolve may be good... But they really need to work on their website...
I sometime can't even scroll on it ans I just can download the software
It opens a from that I need to enter my info, but the Country box doesn't showcase any contrry
(and I can even close this form without reloading all of the page)

Still using Camtasia. I do not like their "upgrade" policy. Other companies have a free "small upgrade" policy, and a reasonable price for a full new upgrade.

I'm a free user, I've tried Lightworks free, OpenShot, and the trial version of Filmora (leaves a watermark on your video).
I really liked Filmora, but can't justify the cost at the moment. While Lightworks seems to be very powerful, the interface is not as intuitive as OpenShot.
I'm going to give Davinci Resolve a go and see what I think.
