I just bought my first ever macbook a couple of days ago to start a youtube channel. This is PERFECT timing
Awesome!
Good lunch that was me 3 1/2 years ago . You’ve picked an awesome channel to guide you , Justin has helped me a massive amount 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Nice that was me 6 years ago, good luck.
@@PrimalVideo How to custom animation ? please video
Right jus wait into the updates I got mine in 2019 , had to delete lots of things for space but yes overall the MacBook Pro does get a lot of things done so it is still worth it
Justin, I just want to thank you for continuing to provide excellent tutorial videos. Your teaching style makes the learning process so easy because you go straight to the point. I can’t thank you enough. May God bless you business and your channel.
You're welcome, Josian - wish you all the best 😊
Excellent tutorial . I have a question . How do you upload a 10 hour video on iMovies when the computer has no storage left but you have iCloud 2tb
This is perfect for a beginner. Very clear explanation and also very comprehensive. I’ve just started editing and was feeling as though I would NEVER even get to first base. Thanks so much.
So awesome to hear it, Christine 😃 - Hazel, PV Team
This is a fantastic tutorial. I feel like I went from "where do I start" to "I got this!" In 20 min! Thank you!
You're welcome - glad you liked it!
My favourite tip; I use two static cameras to shoot guitar performances, and I use the Ken Burns Effect (in the Crop section) to give the illusion of a camera gradually panning or zooming or both. There’s a lot you can do with it, not least the arrival position can be copied, pasted onto the next clip and reversed, so you get the effect of continuous movement.
Awesome - thanks for sharing. 👍
I'm not sure what you mean by copying and pasting the arrival position. Is there a video on this?
@@ryanwire Also curious about the same question
I just want to express my appreciation for this walkthrough! I’ve had a channel for a few years now and have struggled with editing, only using iMovie on mobile, but after recently purchasing a Mac, and the help of this video, I can make my content so much better quality. Thank you!
So awesome to hear that, cheers 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Thats what I need first time using iMovie editor in MacBook thanks very useful.
You're welcome
This was EXACTLY what I needed to get started with iMovie. Just started a UA-cam channel vlogging our life on our narrowboat using Splice on my phone, and it just took off like crazy, and has been slightly overwhelming! Invested in a MacBook and needed a crash course in iMovie and so glad I found you! Wonderful teaching style and a perfect ‘non-annoying’ voice! Thanks 😊
You're welcome - good luck with your edits!
Hadn't used iMovie for a long time and was looking for a refresher. You excelled yourself Justin. Concise, easy to follow and simple to implement. Big thanks. I'm now back up to speed!
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Justin, you are the master for teaching us user-friendly techniques that are NOT intimidating at all, thank you so much!!
So awesome to hear it - you're welcome! - Hazel, PV Team
Great video. I learned a few new things. One drawback to iMovie is you can’t move text around on screen nor can you display two images simultaneously on screen. For example if you wanted to have one video appear to the right of your head and then another on your left AND have them both remain on screen for a few seconds, I haven’t figured out how to do that on iMovie
i managed to do that in Keynote. Had my Main video in centre if screen, then added 2 or more smaller videos on the side. Did the Format animation to whatever settings i needed to appear either all at same time or in different stages of entry and exit after xx seconds. I also added text animations using keynote and then exported the whole thing as movie.
There are prob way more efficient methods of doing this, but just saying i (with my rudimentary / intermediate skills) did manage to do this via Keynote. Then imported the movie back into imovie and did other edits on imovie.
YOU CAN!
I'm just going through this, Justin. I"d been using imovie intuitively for a few weeks and this has been extremely helpful. You've shown me all the things I couldn't find by hunting and clicking here and there. The best basics I've found. Thanks, Ray
So awesome to hear it, Ray 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
What a fantastic cheat sheet guide for occasional users. Also, just when you think you know this software well, Justin shows us a few more tricks which we just can’t believe how we didn’t know that one trick. Thanks Justin, superb video.
Glad you enjoyed it, you're welcome Harley! - Hazel, PV Team
Thank you Justin that was really good. I’ve been terrified at editing my first video for weeks. Now I will follow your step by step guide and take the plunge.
You're welcome - all the best on your first video! 👍
Thank you so much for this video! it was super helpful and I went from knowing nothing about editing videos, to having a basic foundation! I appreciate you taking the time to do this. Thank you Justin
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear that it helped you learn about editing. All the best! 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
Hi Justin
Thanks for this, I’ve been editing on my iPad for ages but wanted to use our Mac, this has clarified everything for me
Have a great day xx
You're welcome, Cristina - so glad it helped! 😊
This is awesome! Only 6 minutes in I already learned so much 😊 this is going to save me so much editing time ❤
Amazing - good luck with your edits! 👍
🍀🍀🍀🍀 your simple step by step instructions have been a life line to starting my you tube channel. I am sooo new to the Mac world. It was a steep learning curve from PC slowly learning to love it.
So glad it helped on your channel! Keep going! 😃
Thanks Justin. Not edited for a while. Great reminder for me. Your clarity is always appreciated.
You're welcome - great to hear that. 😊
Thanks Justin. A clear, concise explanation throughout. Fantastic.
That's all right! 😊
Something I forgot imovie could do (until recently). Pertaining to controlling the playback speed of a clip on your Timeline. Right click to highlight the clip, then left click on that clip for a list of commands. Select "Show Speed Editor". This will produce two control knobs on the clip which make it possible to precisely speed up or slow down the clip. This feature was extremely useful to me lately when I was trying to sync unmatched video footage of a band playing songs from their CD, to studio recorded songs from the CD. Exact sync was impossible; but this control applied here and there made it close enough in sync for the customer.
Thank you for making this, you were concise, clear and had a no nonsense approach to showing how this works. I used iMovie above 10 years ago and now very rusty needed a recap and this was perfect. I was about to buy some online software, now I don't have to as had what I needed on my MacBook already :) many thanks, Amanda
You're welcome!
I can’t thank you enough. I feel like I need to pay you for teaching me how to edit on a Mac! You made the experience so easy and I was dreading learning. That’s why UA-cam is an amazing platform because it connects us with tutorials like these.

So awesome to hear it , thanks - Hazel, PV Team
Justin this is probably the best tutorial I have watched. Thank you for making it so easy to understand. You're a legend!
Thanks Megan! Justin.
One of the best imovie tutorial out there on YT platform, I may watched it later, but its worth a lot, and you made it so simple for the beginners, from here we could dive in easily! Thanks a lot this great tutorial mate! Love form India 😎💙👊
You're welcome - see you in the next video tutorial 👍
Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to follow and quite thorough. I wondered if there is an option to put "key" points into the audio track where you can pull down the volume i.e. ride the audio up and down by placing key points at the beginning and end of an action?
Hi StudioGallery, I've been able to select certain sections within clips in order to reduce the volume/speed of specific sections by holding down the"R" key with my left hand and dragging the track pad with my right hand. I'm sure if you have a mouse attached it will have the same effect. A yellow box with drag handles on either side appears which you can slide and extend. You can then adjust the volume/speed within the yellow box in the same way that Justin showed us. You can also create a fade in and fade out for the volume within that individual box by selecting the little circles at the edge of the box. I hope I've explained that properly 😂
This is an incredible, super concise and helpful tutorial. I can thank you enough for making this video man.
You're welcome - we're happy to help! - Hazel, PV Team
Thanks, Justin - this is helpful. I don't usually do video editing, but I had a client that wanted a few movies to put together, so I'm glad I have been able to get this done myself easily with the help of this video.
You're welcome - well done! 😃 - Hazel, PV Team
First 💫
Hey Justin, is there a way to label sections of your video in iMovie? I think these were called chapter markers at one point. Thanks so much! Working on some big videos and would like to know how to label certain sections so when I wrap up editing for the day I can wake up the next morning and look at the project and have a good idea of where each clip is based on its label.
Hi Christopher, I use the titles in iMovie and give them brief names to describe each clip. Then, when I'm editing, I can find the relevant sections without having to watch or listen to each individual clip to find the ones I'm looking for. Once I've finished editing, I remove the titles.......... Don't think I've ever forgotten to remove one of my notes and accidentally uploaded a video to UA-cam with my description left in, but I'm sure it will happen one day 😂
As I learn iMovie, I've viewed dozens of tutorials and tip clips. I think this was the best. I learned more in just one viewing than any other. Good job Justin.
So awesome to hear it, cheers 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Just went out yesterday to do some filming, now I need to edit my videos for my UA-cam channel. Thanks so much I really appreciate all the work you have put in to teach others. 👏🏿👏🏿

This was a great video! Thank you so much for the step by step guide. I haven't used iMovie in years and this was a great video to get me back into it.
Nice - glad you liked it! 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Simple yet comprehensive video - Thanks! Just worth adding perhaps is to suggest that all media is arranged in the order you want in a folder and then import that folder - this will make it easier to manage once in iMovie
Glad you found the video helpful. Yes, It's a great idea to organize all your media in a folder before importing it into iMovie for easier management. Thanks! - Hazel, PV Team
Just got an iMac, and this video was VERY helpful. iMovie offers different things on a desktop than it does on a mobile device and I was not aware until now!
