I believe that Clonegrim is the best chance that the 3rd Legion has to redeem themselves. Here's an excerpt from Clonelord that shows why: ‘I do not want a new Legion. I want to fix the one that is broken.’ Fulgrim leaned towards him, and Fabius tried to draw back, but to no avail. Fulgrim caught him by the shoulders, and Fabius felt his hearts stutter with an old, familiar arrhythmia. Fulgrim was perfect, and his perfection burned like the heat of the sun. ‘I can fix them, teacher. Fabius. I can teach them, as you have taught me. I can pull them back from the brink, if you but let me.’ His eyes glowed with determination as he spoke, and Fabius felt each word like a blow. He had almost forgotten the sheer power of a primarch’s voice. ‘Even now, they can be saved. I see it in them. I see the flicker of ancient fires - of honour, and heroism. What they were, they can be again, if you but let me go. Set me loose, Fabius, and I shall free your brothers - my sons - from bondage. I can do this. I know it, as surely as I know my name.’
Me (possessing fabius' body): your compassion for your wayward sons is admirable, hearts warming even.... However, it has been ten thousand years and your....previous self had abandoned the legion to it's present state millennia ago. The corruption has thoroughly taken hold and no amount of preaching and primarch power can save your sons....or me...now. My advice to you would be to take a ship with a skeleton crew out into the galaxy and hail a rogue trader to smuggle you back to imperial space for your own safety. What you do after that, I cannot offer advice on.
I love the fall of the emperors children because their central dogma is to seek perfection... Even though perfection does not exist. They always chase the next high.
@@Ray-yv7kn would make sense if Fulgrim wasnt corrupted by a sword and coaxed into depraved experiements by Fabulous Kyle.... I mean Fabius Bile. Original Fulgrim is a cautionary tale of trusting his own sons too much. Fulgrim was not perfect and thus his own imperfections got the better of him. THe clonegrim however posesses the memories and knows personally how his original body failed, giving him an edge. The problem is that you have unreliable narrator on Fabulous Kyle... I mean Fabius Bile telling you that he would fall just the same. This speaks of insecurities of Fabius rather than actually being solid case for Clonegrim falling.
Ive only read the first 9 books but fulgrim is by far my favourite for this reason. I play blood angels and thought they were awesome at a glance. I the first 3 books especially, i hated fulgrim and the EC but after that book i dont know something changed. Great story
This also gives a little more insight into why Clonegrim acts the way he does. It seems like his noble/honorable shard was somehow "kicked out" of Fulgrim when he fell. And somehow, when he was cloned, that "noble shard" found its way back into the body.
My best guess is that they (the primarchs) having warp souls in them are some of the few "good" ones in the warp. During Angel Exterminotus Fulgrim is in the process of trying to sacrifice Purtarabo to ascend to deamonhood. The ritual is interrupted, and a large warp BOOM happens, like when Alpharius is killed by Dorn. Fulgrim ascends but dirty Pert is still alive. My best guess is that his soul fractured and what little noble/good essence remaining to the warp entity's soul split itself and then was placed into the clones host body leaving nothing but regret and depression while the corrupted half was in the original. I'd wager had the process been completed. Fulgrim would be immensely more powerful and there wouldn't have been anything left of the soul for clongrim to have like the horus clone.
@@justwannabehappy6735 Hey look. The first person ive met on the internet that actually read the book before they commented in Clonegrim. You sir are a scholar and have renewed my faith in the 40k community. To bad youre a unicorn
I gotta agree the only way I see the Emperors children being a big threat again would be if Fulgrim came back from the warp and started doing stuff. Or you know Fabius Bile making a bunch of Emperor's children Primaris to rebuild the legion
They encounter one of the Emperor's Children in the Pariah series by Dan Abnett and he is so unhinged. One character said she didn't know if he wanted to kill her or copulate with her and the other character says "both, at the same time probably."
Roboutian Heresy Emperor's Children suffered by being chewtoys of the Dark Eldar and Fulgrim got a humble pie with a bitter taste on his tongue after that experience.
It isn't parody, but Imperium Ascendant fic has scenes of "young Primarchs behaving like little children" at beginning (due to it's premise being that Emperor managed to prevent Primarchs from being scattered by Chaos Gods)
I know a Gulliman Heresy has been written about but I can’t help but think the Imperium would have lost. Just too well planned. I doubt anyone would have gotten off Istvaan.
@@dclangstwell, chaos and planning don't mix too well. Loyalist in that fic even themselves say, that if traitors followed Guilliman's plans properly they would have won Heresy. But while he was better planner then Horus in canon, he was worse leader, needing to compromise with other traitors. Also, he was against loyal Alpharius, Loyal Perturabo, loyal Curze with slightly more controllable precognition... Anyway, check out the fanfic if you want, it is really good
@@ChaosKnolle they’ll get theirs in the next year or two if it fallows the pattern, they’re likely gonna lean more into the rock and roll because that’s the most marketable thing about EC

For some reason, I think that Fabius, out of all E's Children, won, in a way of how things are now. Yes, he still is corrupted piece of shit, but at least he is well aware of it, as he is aware what sad joke became of children.
Can you do a video on why Dorn and the Emperor thought it was a good idea to have Perturabo and Konrad as reinforcements at Isstvaan when they had both destroyed their own planets and Konrad had already attacked Dorn.
I can sort of understand why, to send a message: The Iron Warriors were among the best line troops in the imperium, utterly indefatigable and would get the job done regardless of the cost, plus if the warriors got slapped hard Dorn wouldn’t be unhappy because of their famous rivalry. Meanwhile the Night Lords send a different message - to sow terror among the traitors, to ensure no legion steps out of line again. Unfortunately unbeknownst to Dorn, Perturabo had spent the last 20+ years fighting the Hrud and had just exterminated their home world and were utterly sick of the imperium’s shit. And Kurze was always a wild card.
Because they were close by on the orders of the Warmaster... nothing to do with the Emperor and Dorn. Dorn was sending his own retribution fleet there. There is a good reason why the Dark Angels, Blood Angels and the Ultramarines were as far as possible. Istvan would end up a lot different if those 3 were close enough to get there in time.
@@Damien_Nas wild Curze was in his method he is one of the very few that had proper reason to become a traitor or a renegade, but if he stayed loyal another thing another different thing would be, I think someone did a video about what if Curze's remained loyal, it's a very interesting all things considered.
They fell because Fulgrim needed more arms as he was entering the Galaxies 'Super Beat Your Meat Competition' and REALLY wanted to represent the Emperors Children to the best of his abilities...
Only problem is that they aren’t much of a threat if they can’t be controlled enough to attack things en masse. The only one who could unite them would be Daemon Fulgrim, so he’s got to come back for them to be anything remotely close to a real threat. I love my EC army, and I hope they get their own codex before I die. They need updated in the worst way.
@@heathermillsphantomlimb9314 I agree that it cuts down their large scale threat, but there is some really good lore on the smaller scale and they could still shine there. If he could unite them or not unite them having Fulgrim can only add to the new lore they are building. Hopefully that Codex will happen for you.
No mention of the Battle for Harmony is a bit of a shame. This was when the Third truly broke. At the start of the Legion Wars, immediately following the Traitor Legions' flight to the Eye or Terror, the Emperor's Children were unified and an absolute menace. The third was still a cohesive Legion and held their own through sheer skill, combat drugs, and an expansive slaver network, until Abaddon literally smashed their homeworld to pieces.
@veznan5235 no in genefather Fabius bile states or very heavily implies alpha P is beyond powerful and that he is a primarch in all but name. It is even states Fabius can detect a part of Magnus in him not 1000 son Geneseeds but an actual part of magnis. And Fabius also states it would have been impossible for anyone to defeat alpha primus if Cawl had of told him what he actually was and how powerfulhe truly is. He's not a combination of 20 Geneseeds he is a combination of the 20 beings who made Geneseed possible.
@veznan5235 I definitely recommend buying Genefather probably one of my favorite books of all time. Loved every single page of it. @@MrFallenone see as I understood it he does have the special juice he just isn't aware of it. Fabius said that his special perfect clone wouldn't have stood a chance against alpha primus if primus was aware of his true potential and who he actually is.
One thing to note- in the Fabius Bile books it talks about the formation of the Phoenix Conclave by Eidolon. He is actively trying to collect other like minded EC and reform them into the largest singular 3rd Legion warband. It's insinuated in the 3rd book that it is working and the Phoenix Conclave is getting to be very large indeed. I think this is the groundwork for them reforming- Fulgrim or not.
I remember listening to _Fulgrim_ & listening to Solomon Demeter's time on Isstvan 3, where he ruminates in his down time about the future of the Imperium after the Atrocity there. Here, he knows that nothing will ever be the same again, & he hopes that future generations could forgive them for allowing the Heresy to unfold as it did.
If Fulgrim were more like Rylanor and Saul, and took his legion into a better direction, man, the Third could've been the backbone that would've saved Imperium during the Heresy
I like the fact that Eidolon absolutely despises Fabius Bile because he blames him for becoming stupid, as the head went too long without oxygen before being reatached lol.
To be fair, the emperor's children are a key player in the Eisenhorn/bequin novels, even if they mostly act from the shadows. In the first Eisenhorn book, they support the heretical house glaw in search for the necroteuch. In the bequin series, they search the yellow King and even fight against the word bearers and alpha legion to reach their goals. They may not be such a big threat like black legion, death guard or red corsair, but it seems that they start to reunite and have big plans

I’d like to raise a glass to Saul Tarvitz, Rylanor, Vespasian, and Solomon Demeter for not falling to Slaanesh or letting the flaws of their legion effect them. And embracing everything their legion was meant to be and represented. While at the same time I’d like to raise my middle finger to Lucius, Eydilon, Julia and Bile for being the absolute worst at every given opportunity well before the Heresy, and my other middle finger for Fulgrim for never even trying to set these assholes straight even once.
You know a Chaos Warband I’ve liked for awhile was the Crimson Slaughter. They were actually the first warband I learned about when I got into the setting. Would totally sacrifice to the Dark Gods if these guys got a little spot light.
A video on "using Chaos as a tool" and avoiding corruption would be great. Like, how come the Exorcists' gene-seed is not warp-tainted beyond repair, while our boy Ahriman can't shake off Tzeenchian corruption despite actively trying.
@@Liminal.Headspace and they are doing it over generations, passing on the gene-seed from one briefly possessed marine to the next. There have to be a lot of accumulated mutations in their genes.
I wonder if the story of the III legion should be about the crushing weight of expectations and duty without self reflection and truly understanding what is expected of you.
Literally reading the Horus heresy in order right now and I’m on part 4 chapter 19 of fulgrim.. definitely changes the view of the emperors children and fulgrims overall persona.
Love Emperor's children content! These guys are the freakiest dudes in 40k and it's always interesting to hear about the kind of depravity they get up to
Can we just take a minuet to talk about how smooth the video intro into the video sponsor was today? Great job man!😆 Awesome video too! I love the lore to EC and often find myself wondering how good of a faction they could have been if they where on a proper path with the right morals from the top down all through. But that's what makes it more interesting that this "Flawless" idea is a dodgy line to walk. ^^
I really like the idea that fulgrim and the emperors children represent humanity, their besr virtues and strength. And due to 40ks nature they *have* to fall. Its the most solid example of the depressing eventuality of the setting. Fulgrim and his legion could have been the very best so they fell the absolute hardest. Fulgrim being the perfect human and sanguinius being the imperfect god.
Angel exterminatus really shows you how far they fell compared to the iron warriors being that there side by side it’s cool to see the IW reaction especially the part where the IW apothecary tries and retains a emperors children gene seed.
You might want to add that Big E needed chaos to create the primarchs. And from what i can tell he wasn’t too surprised to hear that his sons betrayed him.
Not chaos. The warp. Big difference. Also they fell because they were arguably corrupted during the transit to their "home" planets where they were found after the scattering. Or do you think Sanguinius was born with wings?
Damn actually a good summary of the story and philosophy of my favorite legion. I would like to add however. THE issue I have with the Laer blade daemon is that it completely controls Fulgrims actions thoughts and emotions. Fulgrims fall is only portrayed as far as him picking up the Laer blade itself, after this point Fulgrim has 0 agency, the daemon changes his thoughts and emotions even going so far as to kill Ferras against Fulgrims will. The blades full control over him could work as a narrative tool but seemingly Fulgrim makes one innocent mistake and poof he is no longer a character. It's a massive writing blunder imo.
You said that GW wrote themselves into a corner but I just from some of the chaos space marine books I've read it seems like GW wants Chaos Space marine factions like 1000 Sun's and Emperors children to show up and have interactions with other Chaos legions either as a minor villain or an ally with a different perspective
That is mostly for 1000 suns. That legion in particular hasn't completely forgotten their honor, and has on many occasions turned and attacked other traitor members after seeing the honor in loyalists burning bright. The most famous being Rylanor of course.
Superb video as always @majorkill. Could you make a video dedicated to the Navigators, the major houses, their politics, relation to the overall Imperium and factions, etc
Or, and hear me out... Fulgrim's an irredeemable piece of sticky space garbage and the CLONE should be the one to get the redemption arc. As in, redeem his name, face, and reputation in the eyes of those who justifiably hate the original. Clonegrim could be the Loyalist Primarch and Fulgrim could be the traitor Daemon Primarch, the two always trying and always failing to sway the other to their side.
@@1krani Nah we need a Rylanor 2.0. Have Clonegrim be loyalist primarch that repeatedly kicks daemon fulgrim's ass every single time they fight. Hammer home that mr seeks perfection ruined every chance he had at having it the moment he accepted chaos.
@@Nempo13 Except that would be too noblebright for grimdark. Rylanor works because he died heroically. Saul Tarvitz worked because he died heroically. Garviel Loken somehow surviving Isstvan III's re-Exterminatus still makes people scratch their heads. Clonegrim should be Fulgrim's equal, but if one is better than the other all the time, it upsets the delicate balance of power in the setting. That's why the Great Rift buffed the Emperor as well as chaos: so the balance of power could stay and the uncertain outcome maintained.

Hello Majorkill, Would you please make some lore videos on the Imperial Truth, the Imperial Creed, the Ecclesiarchy, and the High Lords of Terra? Pretty please? Thank you.
I'm of the belief that the "perfection" attitude they had was always poisonous and a path to Slaanesh from its inception. "Improving" is - at least dependent on what one seeks to "improve" and what that word means to you, anyways - generally a good thing in real life. However, chasing the idea of being the "perfect" version of yourself as a transhuman supersoldier genius with a god given mandate to exterminate all other life deemed lesser to your race can only lead to seeing yourself as above everyone else and pursuing your own desires at the cost of their needs. People like to cite that one scene of Fulgrim telling his soldiers that they had to "lift up" a group of peasants while letting a little girl sit on his shoulder as evidence that there was good in the Emperors Children's/Fulgrim's philosophy but I disagree. To me, that moment and Fulgrim's phrasing: "You look down on them, blind to the beauty of their struggle. Blind to what they might become "if only someone would scrape the filth from their faces" "'Look at them, my sons. You are the highest, and they, the lowest. It is your duty to raise them up, as high as they will go", is such a wretched, detestable display of arrogance that I cant imagine seeing it as the good version of a sick outlook, its just sick. These people, being poor, or uneducated or desperate are not beneath you or anyone else for those things even if their lives can be improved through inverting those qualities. That little girl on your shoulder, Fulgrim, is not "the lowest" and she does not need to be "raised up" by mutated killing machines like your sons. This outlook, that you are inherently better than the common man, even if it is restrained by a condescending veneration of their simple problems can only lead to eventually getting bored or cynical towards "lifting them up" which is exactly what happened to Fulgrim. He eventually got sick of trying to make ordinary people as "perfect" as he was because by his own standard that was impossible, he - and his sons - were inherently better and so inherently mattered more. All the evil the Emperors Children did after that wasn't the inversion of an originally good attitude, but its the logical evolution of one that was twisted from its inception.
Perfectionism is and has ever been a road to atrocity because the perfectionist isn't capable of feeling SATISFIED. There's always a flaw to eliminate and the obsession with eliminating flaws ironically becomes a flaw the perfectionist CAN'T eliminate.
I like this interpretation. And i would apply to something similar to almost every other traitor legion as well. Yes Chaos certainly played it's part in corrupting these legions but they were also built in rotten foundations. Chaos simply gave them exactly what they wanted in the end. Even those that didn't fell to Chaos or didn't fell to Chaos entirely simply went to their natural conclusion. Like the Nightlords devolving into just raiders and pillagers by the end.
I wanna start to try to get into the tabletop soon and expand beyond just watching lore videos, and I'm thinking that the Emperor's Children might be the army I wanna start collecting, because I think their lore is super interesting and compelling. Any advice from more experienced players?
He would have stolen a ship flew it into the warp found Fulgrim and still blown his ass up. Rylanor simply can not be stopped (hopefully the scarcism came through well here).
Yo Australian grimdark Jake Paul! Just wanted to let you know, binging your lore videos got me back into the actual tabletop hobby for the first time since I was 12. Thanks to you, I've gotten to spend more time with my dad playing 40k, since he never stopped!
YES IM SO HAPPY EMPEROR CHILDREN ARE MY FAVORITE before the sex cult thing started. I also think Rylanor is alive in that freak necrom with the museum ,I think he showed up to the signal the virus bomb was projecting. And if you think not just remember that bomb signal was about to breach into the warp.
The next video should be about the serious beef between iron hands and Emperor's children, after the isstavian massacre and post Hersey, just like Space Wolves and Thousand Sons
I think you’re wrong about the EC being one of the weakest traitor legions post heresy. In the black legion books they are described as being one of the least fractured legions and basically being the bullies in the eye of terror… and then abaddon throws a ship at them. And then in the Bile trilogy they are pretty fractured but the Phoenix conclave of the EC most influential captains still exists and remains in contact holding things together until Fulgrims inevitable return.
They pulled The World Eaters being a cohesive threat out of thin air. They definitely will for the Emperor's Children and it will feel even more awkward. Gotta sell that plastic.
Why fulgrim is my fav book of the hh by far and why they and fulgrim are my fav. They are the embodiment of self imposed perfection and socially imposed perfection. Self imposed being the healthy elf improvement one and social being the narcissistic one.
I like Fabius Bile. Dude fell like the rest of the Legion, but didn’t embrace Chaos and become a freak. Glad to see Black Library’s writers aren’t done with him after his omnibus.
If you read about the Emperor’s Children and the Luna Wolves on Murder fighting the Megarachnids you’ll understand very early that the 3rd legion was eating itself inside out
I hope that when the emperors children get their range refresh/new models they still keep the rocknroll, glammetal, 80's aesthetic they used to have. I mean bass cannons and sonic weapons are cool but wannabe band members that have murder guitars that shoot the underslung bolter via whammy bar is over the top and badass.
Attempt Number 5 Could the Istvaan V loyalist legions have held Terra? If Chaos forces were are at the same strength during the siege as it happened in canon Vulkan is present at Terra so could close the webway quickly saving all of the forces who died during the War in the Webway for use in the siege (custodes, IG, SoS etc) Ferrus Manus is alive and all Iron Hand/Salamander tech is present for the loyalists Raven Guard and Corvus Corax conduct strikes behind chaos lines, similar to how the White Scars operated. And of course....Vulkan can't die Could any of the loyalist primarchs have killed Kabunda, Angron, Mortarion, Horus?
It's funny that Slaanesh feeds on his favoured sons getting humiliated, so in a way, the EC are the best Legion to have has chaos poster children because their god would not want them to win overall.
I’m sorry to make this request, but do you mind if you can make a longer video? I like listening to you on the ride home I find you funny and I find it’s a good way to get into the lore I’ve been listening to you since around 2018 plz another special

Yeah, unfortunately even Fabius looks at clonegrim and is like "This guy is 100% going to turn to chaps...... again"

I gotta agree the only way I see the Emperors children being a big threat again would be if Fulgrim came back from the warp and started doing stuff. Or you know Fabius Bile making a bunch of Emperor's children Primaris to rebuild the legion
Primaris Emps children + Clonegrim = a really nice way to bring back a full legion and a Primarch back into the imperium.

thats why they are irredemable
Roboutian Heresy Emperor's Children suffered by being chewtoys of the Dark Eldar and Fulgrim got a humble pie with a bitter taste on his tongue after that experience.
But in the Dumbledore Heresy Fulgrim won the house cup and got to ride on the Emperor's shoulders for being the gosh golly bestest.
@@TheOneStoogeAll youve done is make me want a parody book with all of the Primarchs as children running amok now.

They fell because Fulgrim needed more arms as he was entering the Galaxies 'Super Beat Your Meat Competition' and REALLY wanted to represent the Emperors Children to the best of his abilities...
Emperors Children and A thousand Sons are imo the best Heresy novels as their respective falls to chaos were so well written.
Instead of getting them organized I hope they keep the lore where working with the Emperor's Children is like herding cats.
Sexy cats
Would love to see a video on Alpha Primus who was revealed in Genefather to be a primarch in everything but name
No primarch special juice/minor warp god soul. He seems to be on the level of the clones Fabius made plus a heavy dose of constant migraine.

The Exorcists are basically taking the 0.000.001% that have a 1% chance to overcome Chaos influence and hoping for the best.
A video on the relationships between the first founding chapters and there most prominent successors would be cool
Literally reading the Horus heresy in order right now and I’m on part 4 chapter 19 of fulgrim.. definitely changes the view of the emperors children and fulgrims overall persona.
Love Emperor's children content! These guys are the freakiest dudes in 40k and it's always interesting to hear about the kind of depravity they get up to
The Drukhari say hold my beer…..
Hey Major, can you talk about what kind of old earth animals still exist in the Imperium? Like what kind of pets people have, ect.?
You might want to add that Big E needed chaos to create the primarchs. And from what i can tell he wasn’t too surprised to hear that his sons betrayed him.
Not chaos. The warp. Big difference.
Also they fell because they were arguably corrupted during the transit to their "home" planets where they were found after the scattering.
Or do you think Sanguinius was born with wings?
Tbf he was far more concerned with Webway project which would help starve the chaos gods
He was kinda surprised when Fulgrim fell, cause he expected Jaghatai to do it.
I feel that i personally can learn so much from tbe story of the 3rd legiron.
Video on what exactly happens to you when you die in Warhammer, whether as a human, Eldar, Ork, etc.
A video of the top ten community made wholesome moments would be great
Damn actually a good summary of the story and philosophy of my favorite legion.
It may be bc I simp for Pre-Heresy Fulgrim, but I hope he gets a redemption arc after learning there's a perfect clone of him that isn't tainted

Hello Majorkill,
Would you please make some lore videos on the Imperial Truth, the Imperial Creed, the Ecclesiarchy, and the High Lords of Terra?
To me, that moment and Fulgrim's phrasing:
"You look down on them, blind to the beauty of their struggle. Blind to what they might become "if only someone would scrape the filth from their faces" "'Look at them, my sons. You are the highest, and they, the lowest. It is your duty to raise them up, as high as they will go",
is such a wretched, detestable display of arrogance that I cant imagine seeing it as the good version of a sick outlook, its just sick.
Perhaps a video on what could happen if Rylanor was discovered by loyalist forces, instead of Fulgrim and the thousand sons?
He would have stolen a ship flew it into the warp found Fulgrim and still blown his ass up. Rylanor simply can not be stopped (hopefully the scarcism came through well here).
The higher you are, the worst the fall becomes, let's just say they put themselves way too high

The only way the Emperor´s Children could pose a threat to the Empire would be a larger raiding campaigne to collect slaves or something like that.
