The second part of this video about Jaguar X-type 2.1 & Ford Mondeo MK3 fuel pump replacement - fuel pump assembly refurbishment can be found here:
    • Jaguar X-type fuel pum...
This video shows you the process of Jaguar X-type 2.1 & Ford Mondeo MK3 fuel pump replacement without dropping the fuel tank. I prepared the floor-pan for an easy access to the fuel pump lid right after I bought the car when I was checking the condition of the tank and filters inside it. I widened the hole under the back seat with a grinder (hand cutters), since it was exactly above the fuel pump unit.
Besides, I give you some tips about Jaguar X type rear seat removal and you will remove and install rear seat without any problems.
I got a fuel pump unit out of the tank of a Jaguar X-type with V6 2.1 engine. In case of other engines the fuel pump is situated in a different place and this video is of little use for their owners. The matter is that X-type with a 2.1 engine is FWD, her fuel tank of a different design, since she has got no rear driveshafts. 2.1 version is simpler and easier to maintain than her AWD colleagues, though lacks off-road capabilities.
I don't urge your to cut the floor-pan of your car, it's just my idea how I get the fuel pump unit out of the tank without removing it.

Thank, you for you're video. / I, own a 2004, X type 3.0 jaguar what happen was the jaguar would not start up at all. so I shot 2 sprays of starting fluid inside the air box then the jaguar started up on the starting fluid. so I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the old fuel pump and replaced a new replacement electric fuel pump now the jaguar is back running again. Ps. I, wish that I had seen you're video way before dropping the fuel tank then it would had been a little easy for me. that job of dropping the fuel tank on my jaguar was a big task. I, never want to drop the fuel tank ever again now theirs a better way next time you're video.🙏

Thank you for watching, Gerland. It's great to hear that your Jag is back running again. But the location of a fuel pump on 2.1 and 3.0 engines differs because of a driveshaft. On 2.1 I needed just to widen the hole a little bit, while on 3.0 you would have to cut it entirely. So, maybe it's a good option to drop the tank and save the car body from serious cutting. Never regret. Good luck!

Dear Arne Meyer! Many thanks for your participation in publishing new videos. I have got an idea to purchase a spare, which is not quite urgent in my case, but very interesting to replace - a new or refurbished alternator. And as soon as it will be possible, I'll take a video how to replace an alternator without removing scarcely anything. Thank you once again for donation.

@@jaguarrroman hi did you have to cut the hole to remove fuel pump or was it there from factory

    • @jaguarrroman

It was the size of a rubber cap, and I widened it so that to have space to remove the tank cover and fuel pump unit.

Wish you would've spent more time demonstrating how you gain access to the gas pump assembly and then load the spring loaded pumps standard on most X types and get them to stay in place while you get the threaded cap onto the male threads while keeping the round circular green rubber gasket in place. The 2.1 gas pump assembly you show is markedly easier to replace than the one on the 2.5's and 3.0 petrol models which use a more difficult spring loaded assembly necessitating two people to reinstall the pump with one person (or possibly a wooden strut mounted between the interior roof headliner and the top of the spring loaded pump such that you shim it into place with enough pressure that you overcome the spring pressure.
    **2.5 and 3.0 Petrol Versions**
I have done three of these (2.5 and 3.0 Petrol) and while it CAN be performed from the top, the grinding and removal of the steel body under the rear seat necessitate a whole other video because you must use a small and thin grinding wheel (no larger than 4.5" and preferably 2.5-3") and it must be done very very carefully and optimally with the fuel completely drained and removed from the tank (to avoid explosion of fuel vapors). The distance between the body of the car and the plastic gas tank is less than 2 mm in some places and thus there is precious little space to allow for the grinding wheel to fully perforate the car body but yet not touch the plastic gas tank (since we are working with the relatively flat surface of the steel car body and the curved surface of the grinding wheel).
*Alternate Method of Pump Replacement Once Access to Assembly is Gained*
I have found it easier, and would recommend this alternative (to anyone who has not done one of these before) which involves removing the entire pump assembly but not disconnecting the fuel lines and then disconnecting the small metal electric pump from inside the replacement assembly and then using a dremel w/grinding stone attachment (wash or spray with a bottle the inside of the pump with rubbing alcohol to remove gasoline), grind the stainless steel 3/8" pinch clamps off, R&R only the pump and reattach the feed and supply lines using small 3/8" hose clamps, this avoids having to remove the very difficult rubber/plastic hoses that are prone to breaking. Be advised however that if upon visual inspection of the screen you find it is clogged by more than 15% or so, you must either replace the screen or the entire assembly, the former of which must be done by carefully prying off the existing screen assembly and then reattaching the new screen using small stainless steel screws and possibly some PC4 fuel proof epoxy.

Many thanks for your comment! My Jag is 2.1 and quite easy to maintain. I've got no idea how the same can be done on 2.5/3.0 versions.

Thank you for your comment, mate. I am not sure about the fuel unit location in case of diesel engines. You'd better cross-check it, do not rely on my video, my case is 2.1 gasoline engine. Good luck!

I am glad, my videos are useful to fellow X-typers. Thank you for your comment. My X-type is not a 4wd and makes use of one fuel pump. As for the 4wd X-types, they have got a different design of the tank and you have to remove first a driveshaft and then the tank. Some 4wd X-typers also cut the floor under the back seat, but in case of 4wd the pump location is different. Its better to google for it.

YOu can do it that way but its very difficult; you need to disconnect the driveshaft and place it to one side and also loosen and move the entire rear suspension assembly on one side; takes two people

You can search for a "Visteon Jaguar fuel pump" on EBAY. I bought it at about $50 from some Turkish seller, I hope he is OK after the earthquake. It came with a wrong strainer, still it works OK now at a pressure of 4.8 bars, I checked it with a fuel pressure tester.

doesnt matter what year every X type is the same as far as fuel pump is concerned with the exception that the 2.5 and 3.0's petrol have a spring loaded pump and a different rubber gasket that is more difficult to install than the 2.1's assuming you are attempting to do this from the top, which don't forget means grinding off the inner skin of the car in order to gain access to the pump assembly itself.
